Live blog of preseason home opener right here

Preseason football in South Florida: The constant threat of rain -- it's already showed. The humidity. The baseball infield.

Awesome!

Let's hang! There will be a live blog of the Dolphins' 2011 preseason home debut right here starting at 7:30. I'll come back in a little while and tell you which players -- other than Jake Long -- will not play tonight. I'll be interested to see whether/how long Will Allen plays tonight after missing most of the past 21 months with various injuries.

[Update: The Dolphins are announcing Jared Odrick replaces Randy Starks in the starting lineup tonight. Allen will not play.  LB Austin Spitler, G Garrett Chisolm, T Ray Willis, OL Joe Berger, T Jake Long and TE Mickey Shuler are also scratched.]

Things to look for tonight -- other than Chad Henne's performance of course?

Dolphins linebackers versus Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey. The Dolphins are going to face very good tight end play in the regular season opener against New England. They have a history of struggling against tight ends in the past. Let's see how Karlos Dansby, Kevin Burnett, and to some degree strong safety Yeremiah Bell fare tonight.

I want to see if Phillip Livas, who opened eyes last week with a 75-yard punt return, can show some consistency or if that was one-time luck. I'm not saying Livas needs to take another one to the house. I am saying he needs to show wiggle, ability to make the first guy miss consistently, and then acceleration past the second tackler. Blocking is supposed to take care of the rest.

I want to see if Matt Moore can show the spark again this week that he showed against Atlanta.

I want to see progress from center Mike Pouncey individually and then some clue that the offensive line is coming together as a group.

I want to see Anthony Fasano catch the ball rather than have the ball boink off his hands.

I want to see the front seven on defense stop the run, something they struggled to do last week at Atlanta.

And, obviously, I want to see a win. There is no substitute for victory.

Why are we still talking about Henne and the long ball. Have we not already established that he's not good on those? It's not his strength so can we move on because there's really nothing we can do about it. Sheesh

I watched some of the Skins game. Beck looked pretty good. 14 / 17 140 yards.

ARMANDO JUST CANT WAIT TO SAY SOMETHING NEGATIVE ABOUT HENNE. TO BAD BOB GRIESE IS TO HIGH PROFILE TO QUALIFY TO WRITE THIS BLOG.

AT LEAST GRIESE IS BOTH GIVING THE POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES ABOUT HENNE. aRMANDO I DONT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOU IDENTIFYING HENNE'S NEGATIVE. BUT IT MAKES YOU LOOK REALLY CHEEZY NOT MENTIONING ANYTHING POSITIVE HE DOES IN SA POSITIVE LIGHT.

Can you imagine this team with Marino...

I know...

I'll shut up...

"Knowing Jake is there makes me less concerned about Murtha tonite"

Posted by: bobbyd12

No guarantee Jake will be healthy. If he can't go, Murtha's the guy and he sucks.

I know and so was the guy Carolina picked up from Bears.
Just do not comprehend.

BobbyD, glad Murtha is getting work, but we will be better with Jake Long!

So the kickoff is moved UP and Dan Carpenter, as good a field goal kicker as he is, STILL can't come close to a touchback.

Sometimes I do miss Olindo Mare.

I'm worried about Long. This past year, counting last season is concerning.
A #1 Lineman should play for 10 years at least. This could be bad if he can't stay on the field.

Mando, have you heard anything as to whether he'll be back next week?
BTW, this blog works better when you're HERE!! Thanks.

shepherdbook, good posts. One of the only people in here that is objective about Henne. Most either hate or love with no in between.

Very good first half. Solid team performance

Nearly 22 minutes of time of posession in the 1st half and we only have a 10 point lead, thinking week 2 vs. Colts 2009, we can`t win that way in the game today!!

Armando.. PLEASE take the hater blinders off when writing about Henne. It is getting old. Fact is he is having a good game. YOU SAY dstats don't lie...look at the stats now!

Just being objective folks. I like what I see from Bush, Bess, Marshall. But relying 100% on checkdown passes will only get you so far.

Henne still not seeing the wide open receivers and still not accurate with the long ball. He'll throw one good long ball and then the next 5 or 10 are off target. This is an issue. Lets not forget we are going against last years worst team minus 16 players.

John Beck is having a great night in Washington 14-17 145 yds 0-0

No doubt Burnett is an upgrade already over Channing. Agreed?

Keep the DEF coming Nolan!!!

Intercept and win

AS FAR OLINE PENALTIES, i'LL TAKE THAT AS A MARKED IMPROVEMENT OVER PRESEASON GAME 1. WE HAD 77YDS RUSHING FOR THE ENTIRE GAME. RIGHT NOW THEYVE OPENED HOLES FOR 81YDS RUSHING AND WE'RE STILL IN THE FIRST HALF. ALSO ZERO SACKS.

OLINE PENALTIES ARE CORRECTABLE GUYS.

"Lydon Murtha has three penalties called him tonight. Two more and he fouls out."

Posted by: Armando Salguero | August 19, 2011 at 08:39 PM

Mando, this is the PROS. Takes 6 fouls to get you out.

Newton should have been picked!!!

Shockey wanted to play for Fins this yr too.. Bet Ireland had a do-over on that move!!

Mando, since you are not posting updates, can you at least review this years' cheerleaders?

Dang, Burnett is everywhere. I like it.

If Burnett keeps playing like this our LB corp is going to be special this year!

Who the hell is 47? He's in on every play!

Also...has anyone seen Beck play right now?! WTF?! Where was that!?

BURNETT has been solid tonight.

JT has some youthful legs tonight!!

Feelin better this week!

Channing Crowder was here 2-3 years too long-when are we going to get a TE?

Zango what 16

That was nice by henne right there... I tip my hat

Yeah that fasano is terrible

Shockey chose Carolina over Miami!

The word was because his old TE coach is there.

Give me a break!!

Uh oh , Pouncey with that high ball again!!!

38 yards-Fasano-miracle @ Miami Gardens

We need to use JT in the last qtr like Armstrong back in the day...

#47, new LB Burnett from SD.

We look good so far! Stone Hands Fasano catches one!!!!!!

Still hating Mando! Henne looking upfield ... much better play then last year he would have been sacked!

Beck is playing really well in Washington but he had some good plays in the preseason for us as well ... great play just then by Henne with the high snap and pressure

A good TE with Marshall, Bess, Hartine and Bush would make us very tough to stop!

We got a new TE?

Nice pass by Henne, moving around in the pocket, scrambling, I like this Henne. Keep the offense on the field and the drive alive.

WOW Henne with the improv.

(Pouncey needs to fix that sh-- quick)

JOHN BECK IS 14-17 FOR 140 YDS. SKINS HAVE A 16-3 ADVANTAGE OVER THE COLTS RIGHT NOW. BEACK HASNT BEEN TOO SHABBY.

Beck didn't produce in a years time so we got rid of him.

NJ, I think the Panthers are paying Shockey more than Dolphins actually were talking of offering him.

Burnett huge upgrade over Channing. BTW, 38 yard pass by Henne!!

Your right NJ fin. Raining there. We got plenty in de. Chusinsky is tje coach but bad sprlling

Hope Beck does well...

Camoron may not have been as big of a moron as so many of our fans thought!

LOVING the new offense

Mando, agreed on Burnett!!! Also, Daboll already an improvement over Henning, agreed? The energy without the old dude is off the hizzy....

Mando, was that you in TV?

Why are we still talking about Henne and the long ball. Have we not already established that he's not good on those? It's not his strength so can we move on because there's really nothing we can do about it. Sheesh

LouD,

Make a list of only the things you want to talk about, and then throw it away. You think everyone is dying to hear all your comments?

Without the long ball, defenses will crush this dink and dunk passing game. It looks nice when its working, but it won't work against the better defenses with out a deep threat.

Livas did it last week as well he is looking to recieve the punt on the run and is upfield about 10 yards before contact, kids a baller!

"Also...has anyone seen Beck play right now?! WTF?! Where was that!?"

This is how Marino f**ked us. We had Beck and in his second season fans wanted to light his house on fire and basically ran him out of town. There is NO patience in Miami when it comes to developing QBs.

HENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! LOL...

Henne Henne Henne ....lol

HENNE!!!! HENNE!!!
