Live practice blog (possibly without Livas)

The Dolphins return to practice today in Davie, FL. and the team is expected to be in full pads for the work.

I'm told kick returner/punt returner/wide receiver is not expected to practice today. Livas, you may recall, returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown Friday night against Atlanta. He is managed an unspecified minor injury.

Not a big deal, it''s just that he's 5-8 and 178 pounds and the question on somebody that size is seemingly always, "Can he stay healthy long enough to contribute."

I will update as we know more once practice begins.

And once practice begins, I will be updating live on this blog. So go to the comments for that. See you there.

Yea Mark I'm still checking back on here and I didn't include Barkley only because I'm not very impressed so far on what I've seen from him but I'm doubting him being a first round prospect. My point is pretty much what you said if we want a QB in the first round next year we either need to have a terrible year or do like the Falcons and trade a bunch of picks to move up to get one. Which at this point I'd trade away the next 3 drafts if we can get a frachise Quarterback but until then... Henne is the guy and I hope he proves us all wrong.

"Because they spend their money wisely."

Sam,

That's just one aspect of it. They also have better coaches, better scouts, & they consistently draft well. In short, they are a much better run organization ever since Huzienga bought the team & fired Shula.

The best QB we've had since Marino was Jay Fiedler & we didn't even draft him. I'd take him over Henne any day.

Miami likes to pick up broken...I mean broken in players that played in their system 4 years ago when they were good players. Signing 34 and 35 year old OL-men is the correct way to build your team...not!

If we lose to the Texans at home & start 0-2 then I'll start to worry.

Why don't you get a head start on things. Start worrying. The wolf will be on life support by week 3 and the Dolphins will have sadly ran their home streak to 1-9.

10-6 this year...9-7 at the worst. Ye of little faith. Miami is going to shock the NFL and Henne will rip it up.

Jimbo, there are 5 mabe 6 QB's that will go in the first round next year and Barkely will be one. you also have Foles, Arizona;Cousins, Michigan St; Lindley, San diego State and of course Luck and Jones! I should say they will go in the first 45 picks

I can't think of one ex-Cowboy lineman that didn't suck on the Dolphins.

Polite played well until last year but he might be done & Fasano seems to have reverted back to his 2009 form against the Falcons again. Not sure how Ireland can look at himself in the mirror & say that he made the right move not drafting a TE other than Nalboner.

LMFAO @ Jay Fiedler. Wanny and co. were so thrilled with Fiedler after he came in and mopped up in Marino's last game that they went and traded for him. I shouldn't laugh though at least we used to make the playoffs back then.

YellowGinn,

LMFAO!!! My prediction is 6-10 so I'm lying--I'm VERY worried. I'm just praying for an O-line miracle....

YellowGinn,

Exactly. How sad is that??? It's been extremely painful & frustrating being a Dolphin fan since Shula left.

Hey Mando,

You done for the day??? Or are just taking a siesta??? LOL!!!! J/k.

The o-line does not sound very strong at this practice... ugh.

Agreed Playmakers. You could argue that JJ did some decent things. He tried to establish a running game and drafted some studs on D no doubt

... but there was the whole Marino transition and I'm sure he was key in Wanny being the HC. I still blame Wanny and Spielman for the state of this team.

It was crazy sitting in the stadium last December ... losing to Detriot and the Bills on consecutive weekends. Stadium half full. Henne getting booed. Couldn't execute a two minute drill to save their lives. Two of the worst football games I have ever attended at any level.

How many passes did Henne throw off target? Seemed like his usual high percentage.

Hmmm....Will Allen actually practiced today. Talk about a quick healer....LOL!!!

There are a lot of teams already mailing in this year to get a Qb whether or not they officially say so or not. Washington will stink, Seattle will stink, Carolina will stink again (and just wait for someone to want to trade up for a QB and collect a bounty), Buffalo will be looking for a QB, maybe Cincinnati too, who knows? There will be a lot of competition for trade up scenarios.

Freedog, you under 25 and oblivious! Look at our schedule, 8-8 at best

10-6. You people are "sky is falling" type fans. I saw good things among the bad on Friday. 3 games is plenty of time to work out the kinks. We have far more potential than our "FANS" give them credit for. Go find another team to watch because you sure don't sound like true fans to me.

Ummm, I was probably a fan when you were suckin on yo mama's teet, elstro17.

I noticed you didn't cite the "good" things you saw (assuming you're talking about our starters against their starters). Please share.

10-6

Even if many fans get their wish and Ireland / Sparano get canned then what?

There is no magical solution to fixing this franchise. How have Holmgren and Shannahan done since winning Super Bowls? A diva HC doesn't guarantee anything. Gruden? Remember his later years in Tampa. I heard there is this Parcells guy who is pretty decent and available.

Even if it were a guarantee does anyone think that these guys would want to work for Ross? He tried this Decemeber / January and was told to go pound sand. This franchise is in deep trouble.

YellowGinn,

I honestly thought that Sparano was going to be fired after that first NE game in Week 4. Not sure what Ross will do if & when this offense sucks again but the next regime better know about QB's. Ireland has done some things well on defense but he didn't find a QB, a TE, the O-line has been an absolute mess so he's not the answer @ GM IMO.

Joe Schmoe,

(From the last blog)....just so we're clear the impersonator on the 'you're a waste of sperm' stuff wasn't me. Not sure who pulls that crap but it's pretty tiring. I've asked Armando several times to look into it but I've got nothing back. Anyways, it's pretty pathetic!

Joe, not sure why everything has to be personal with you. There's only one guy throwing the insults and name-calling around and it's you....so knock yourself out with it!!

I simply reported what I heard about Ocho and Haynesworth yesterday. I figured all the Pats lovers on here would want to know about it.

Keep the name-calling coming, Joe....it's what you do best. I'll take the high road and talk football with those that care talk about it with me.

Ciao...

YellowGinn,

You're so right that it's scary. Forget Cowher or Chuckie. They're done. The one guy I would want is Jeff Fisher but he runs a 4-3 defense.

Not sure why Ireland has not re-upped on Langford or Soliai but maybe he's not locking himself into anything. I honestly believe he's thinking he's still going to be here no matter what happens this year otherwise he HAD to make that trade for Orton. Re-upping on McDaniel is okay b/c he can play DT in a 4-3.

Way to cite the good things you saw our starters do against their starters! Hilarious!

Joe Schmoe,

Ok, I changed my mind. You are a worthless waste of space. You sound like you jumped and missed the gene pool completely. You have the brains of a stuffed monkey...Hahahaha!!! Big Dummy!

Freedog, you don't know jack about football then, starting defense one second drive looked bad, dansbey and Burnett were running into each other. Yes I know they are going 1/2 speed, blah blah, still didn't look good. Offensive line couldn't open a hole against atlanta's second team defense, that means we can't run the ball, no run=no wins with no QB. The sky is not falling, but we sure aren't going to win 10 games. That prediction Is exactly why Vegas makes so much money, Bo bo's like you. 8 wins, if we are
Lucky. Just good enough to not get a great draftpick.

How many people would argue that the Dolphins number one need going into the offseason was to upgrade the QB position? Rather it be to find a starter or competition for Henne.

So ..... they lose Thigpen and CP10 (injured) and they gain Moore, Delvin, and O'Connell. Pretty much all you need to know about Ireland. He failed to address the team's #1 need. Bye bye Jeff.

WNP, if this season gets to the point that Sparano gets fired then I bet Ireland will also get the axe but not until Jan 2012. Ross will start fresh with his guys.

Pretty cute, impostor at 1:47pm. I think I hear your Mommy calling.....

TEN and SIX!!

Moore starts by game 7, south Florida will be begging for it. Yellow, you are totally right, QB #1 need, didn't address it, bye bye Ireland.

"ArmandoSalguero That means Vernon Carey is scheduled to be a UFA next season. 16 minutes" ago · reply · retweet · favorite

That's the good news. The bad news is we hould have never re-upped on after the 2008 season to begin with. We actually made him one of the highest paid RT's in the NFL??? Really???

Sparano wanted to be a smash-mouth team & Carey is not a powerful run blocker. At his best he was a finesse pass protector.

"TEN and SIX!!"

With NO FACTS (based on what you saw) to support it.

It's only been ONE PRESEASON GAME! It means nothing! 2010 meant nothing too! 2009 meant nothing too! 2008 meant nothing too! Tomorrrow won't mean anything too!

Everyone knows it takes 7-9 years for a QB to develop. Be patient!

Playmakers, quite honestly NOTHING surprises me anymore with the Dolphins. You could be right that Ireland will be back regardless - or at least that he thinks he will be here. One of the tough things with Ireland is that we don't know how many decisions he was actually making while the Tuna was still around. Also, over the past decade I would take Ireland and Sparano over Wanny/Spielman, Saban, and Cameron/Mueller. So we could do worse IMO.

Uh, Shammy?

Their starters were only on the field for 4 minutes.

Way to "load" the qusstions.

Go Shammy

Go Shammy...................

Freedog, I agree my friend.

However the O-line needs to be A-LOT better. Not one hole for the running game the whole 1st quarter.

Freedog, I will say the performance by the team needs to get better, but I agree without injuries, and if this o-line can get their crap together a gel.

Could be a good year. hopefully we see more game 2 of pre-season.

10-6, I'm with ya Freedog.

F the haters!

"Everyone knows it takes 7-9 years for a QB to develop. Be patient!"

LOL! 8-10 years if they have more than one offensive coordinator in their career, Typical Henne Fan!

"TEN and SIX!!"

Freedog,

If we're lucky Belichick will pull the ones & let us score a TD okay???

Even w/o Brady starting, this guy Hoyer could rip us apart. They have too many weapons on offense & I think a lot of our fans tend to overrate our secondary. Y. Bell simply can't defend against the pass. Sure Vontae, Smith, Clemons, Jones, & even Wilson are all young & all have upside but they're not stars yet.

"Their starters were only on the field for 4 minutes."

But that was enough time for Freedog to say he saw some "good things". Can't have it both ways, odorseye.

I saw one standout good thing Friday. Henne walking off the field.

... add another year or two b/c he never had a running game or a great group of receivers. So Henne should be ok after 2018. Be patient folks.

But you can ;p

LOL

By my count there are 3 or 4 true posters here, CraigM, fin4life, Seminole Sam and myself. The rest are another 3 or 4 using X nicks.
This is common practice in all the Blogs throughout the World; the owner of the Blog pays 2 or 3 guys plus himself to post as much as possible in the Blog under different names to increase the # of "hits" and therefore money. Is this ethical? Is it Lawful? I don't know as Internet is very young but we are certainly looking into these issues.

But you can ;p

And you do! LMAO!!

Yeeaahh...Everyone! The new chant at the games this year is going to be "Ten and Six, Ten and Six, Ten and Six"! Let's give our guys a little boost. All they need is a little boost of swagger. We have the talent but they don't believe it yet.

TEN AND SIX!!!!

I am a real person and huge fish fan
Buddy

If that works, 10-6 I am down, doubt it though, that's going to be more like mockery

YellowGinn,

Yes. They inherited the worst football team in the NFL. The thing that kills me more than anything else has been the missed FA signings & the missed picks on the O-line. If somehow, someway we could actually run the ball between the tackles then we could rely less on Henne.

Henne is NOT as terrible as people make him out to be. He just makes dumb plays & throws too many INT's. My point about Ireland is that if he knew he had to win NOW or else why wouldn't he have made the trade for Orton. Regardless of what people think he's definitely more consistent than Henne & Denver's running game was even worse than ours!!!

And you do! LMAO!!

Posted by: Seminole Sam | August 15, 2011 at 02:03 PM

Oh NO you didn't!

THAT'S IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITT!!!!

Oscar,... Really? Havent been anyone else, ever.

Oscar,

Then where's my check??? I'm sorry if my football acumen is not up to your standards.

Shotgun, slightly high snap by Pouncey....Go figure. He did that over and over again at Florida. But we take him and not Mallett.
should it shock Ireland that Pouncey did that?
Fire Ireland today.

So henne I see is on the 8 year development program I see??? That's tough! I am still pissed they didn't draft mallet. Idiots! Yeah Oscar, your an idi*t! Fill in the blank buddy

Dolphins are working a lot of double tight sets with Clay and Fasano.

============================

So now they think they are the Patriots? That could work if we had a QB worth a darn. I envision a lot of check downs and garbage yards from this offense.
