Long back, suddenly OL is much better

Jake Long, who was not able to pass his physical at the start of training camp because he was still nursing an undisclosed left leg injury, passed over the weekend and is back on the field.

Great timing by him.

Long's return coincides with a game in which reserve left tackle Lydon Murtha, who generally did fine filling in, struggled somewhat with three penalties against Carolina. Murtha wasn't bad at his assignments or anything like that. It's just that those penalties, especially the pre-snap ones, kill drives and he is simply not as good as Long.

So Long returned to practice Saturday and today gets the day off,  along with the rest of Miami's players. Long will be able to assess his physical condition and conditioning following his first dose of practice.

"It feels real good, getting back there with the guys and finally put the helmet on, jersey, run around out there, get to practicing, it felt good,” Long said after practice.

Dolphins coaches might not use Long in the preseason. He is expected to practice every day possible and that work against Jason Taylor, sometimes against Cameron Wake, and against Miami's burly defensive ends, should be good enough to get Long in football shape. The risk versus the reward of having Long crash helmets with another team's defensive linemen in the preseason seems to tip the scales toward risk.

Think about it:

Long worked all of last year next to Richie Incognito so it's not like the two of them need to learn each other. Yes, the offense is new, but I estimate the Dolphins will work between 40-50 team periods in which the first team offense faces the first team defense the next couple of weeks. On the week before the season-opener against the Patriots, and maybe even two weeks before, Long will also get snaps against a scout team.

So why are we worrying about getting him hit in a preseason game again?

"Whatever," Long said laughing. "Whenever coach puts me in there and expects me to play, I will be ready to play."

And with that, it seems the Dolphins starting offensive line is set. Long at left tackle, Incognito at left guard, Mike Pouncey at center, Vernon Carey at right guard and Marc Colombo at right tackle.

The biggest worry of all these for me? Not Long, coming off the injury. Not Pouncey playing as a rookie. Not Carey shifting to a new position at guard.

Colombo.

He has some ugly, ugly moments at times. The other night there was a pass play in which he let a blitzer run right past him untouched and in against Henne. Henne avoided the blitzer by scrambling away and then was hurried by another lineman that ran past Colombo. When that play was done, Colombo had gotten a chance to block two guys and really didn't lay a finger on either. Made me scratch my head.

Can he run-block well? Yes. Pass-block well? Not sure.

{Update: The Rams have released offensive lineman Tyler Donahue, an undrafted rookie out of Bowling Green. Why do you care? Because the Dolphins showed interest in Donahue earlier this year and will be among the teams wanting to add him to their roster. In fact, Donahue had a workout scheduled with the Dolphins Sunday. Donahue is a 6-6 and 300-pound offensive tackle.]

I've been following this silly argument and will give my two cents. Dominating Sanchez won't win us any rings. It's a meaningless stat. If you're a true Dolphin you know you'd rather win a championship even if it means getting swept by the Jets. You know and I know it.

You're embarassing all of us true Dolphins fans. Knock it off.

I was with you right up until the embarrassing part. Speaking of which, you're the one embarrassing yourself dum a s s!

Nobody a thing about whats better or how many championships who got when. Try to keep up or keep your mouth shut.

He wanted to compare Henne and SanCHOKE-PERIOD. According to reality and NFL history-DUH-Henne has beaten Sanchoke in head to head play.

Now you take your paper championship and stick where the sun don't shine.

ValHalla!

(That means liquor run!)

I'll Be BACK!!!!

odinseye

Got a can opener at open? Just the sharp and end pop your head out of your assss before trying to debate anyone else.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, him got smoked trying to say Cheese bags is a champ-LOL.

Now him all mad, how cute.

Actually with Henne having the stronger arm of the two and quickly emerging superior systems and weapons(not to mention a better D now too), Henne is probably just as deserving as Sanchoke for being crowned paper champ.

Seriously, we got your best pass rusher back home and you ain't got nobody like Wake. Talentwise you guys slid a little at least.

Now, if you want to debate paper champs(cause you guys ain't won shyt-PERIOD)I'll go as far as saying were more deserving than you guys, AT LEAST ON PAPER-ROTFLMFAO!

How's that for a can opener????

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.................

Dum Dum took him ball and GO Home!

What just happened here?

Another jet troll bights the dust.

Way to go odin you are brutal. Way to stick up for the Fins Brudda.

Until Henne proves he is better, he is worse. Simple.

Sanchez looked way better than Henne tonight. Has far more touch on the ball. Lets face it, Henne really stinks beyond 15 yards. Hitting 1 out of 5 long balls is not good enough. Henne doesn't even hit 1 in 10, even when they are wide open he misses to often.

I already know you will bring up Hartline wide open against Atlanta. That was the only long ball he hit in stride out of the 10 or so attempts he made. Henne scares nobody deep and never will. He has proven that time and again.

It's ok, he has 18 weeks more work with the fins and then he is gone.

Sanchez rises to the occasion - proof, he hit many clutch long balls last year.

Henne sinks to the occasion - proof, 1-7 at home, and the biggest stink up performance ever by a Miami QB the last 5 games of the season. Real stinky.

Henne benched twice. Sanchez benched never.

No argument.

All the silliness aside Odin makes excellent points.
Sanchez was almost benched a couple of times last season. He is erratic at best weak armed and most of his success came from the D.
Did Sanchez beat Brady in the playoffs last season?
Nope, it was the defense. Nuff Said.

J-E-T-S SUCK SUCK SUCK

Last but not least before signing off....

Henne vs Sanchez? They don't play against each other. They are never on the field at the same time.

Wanna talk stats? Is there a stat bigger than who has the most W's?

Case closed.

Sanchez was almost benched a couple of times last season.

Posted by: FinsFanMa | August 21, 2011 at 10:55 PM

Almost??? Hahahaha! Almost means what? I almost scored with Jennifer Lopez last night. Yeah man, almost.

FinsFanMa

Know what? We almost won 12 games last year, but um, we only won 7. If we won the games we almost won we could have almost won the SuperBowl!

Yeah! We almost won it all last year!

Almost.

odinseye,

I think Marcus ripped your "Henne is better" argument and forced you to go to "head-to-head" because that's all you had left. Pretty lame.

Wins are all that count and Sanchez has won more games and won more big games than Henne has. Marino has the head-to-head advantage over Elway but Elway has the championships.

Sanchez has accomplished more than Henne on a much bigger stage with brighter lights. Period.

Pretty funny comment about chips and dips by Marcus! We'll see which QB is eating the chips and dip this year, scumbag!

Ok, you guys are doing well enough with out me. Ciao.

Doomsday are a jet fan or just really REALLY stupid?
I'm not trying to get in this but you say some of the most ignorant things.
You make assumptions and proposition and make believe your stating facts.
Then you generalize in a negative manner and pretend that your the cats a ss.
I can tell from reading your posts you are not the cats a ss sir. Your simply an a ss.
Why don't you troll back over to the times or post or whatever rag you crawled out from under.

FinsFanMa = odinseye

Pretty obvious.

Flying under the radar this preseason with most dolfans is the marked improvement the Dansby/Burnett lb tandem will make for us this season.

Again in 2010, as what has seemed like 4ever now, was the pass coverage against TE's. That had really hampered our defense's ability to get off of the field in 3rd down situations. When was the last time you actually saw Crowder cover a TE let alone have a pass defensed?

Why do I bring this up? It plays right into the 2011 Chad Henne conversation. With the defense's ability to now get off the field on 3rd downs now better than ever. It means 2 benificial things could very well arise from that:

1. The offense will have more possessions.

2. With safe leads we can grind the clock with running plays and selective passing.

When in situations with safe leads it means Henne will be required to pass far less. Which in turn eliminates extra opportunities for picks or sacks. Signing Burnett may turn into as great an offseason signing as signing Reggie Bush.

AWWWWWWWRIGGGGGHHHT MIAAAAAAAMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until Henne proves he is better, he is worse. Simple.

Posted by: Doomsday | August 21, 2011 at 10:52 PM

OMG, you're a glutton for punishment on top of being retarded? I should have known.

Listen up simpleton, I think when Henne takes his team and beats yours, REPEATEDLY, that proves he's better. You know the old all important win loss record. Other than that, your just another Rex Ryan like blow hard.

What part of "Henne torches you guys regularly" don't you get?

Wow. FinsFanMa didn't state one fact @ 11:02. Wonder why? LOL.

Henne vs Sanchez? Who really cares!

Im more concerned with who has the most complete roster Dolphins or Jets. Then it comes down to which team will have the nost complete play over the course of the 2011 season.

Guys, Im really loving our team. Both sides of the ball. Though I do give the Jets clear cut advantage in the safety positions. With the addition of Reggie Bush Im now giving us an slight edge in overall offensive explosiveness. Bush remains healthy, he looks like a shue in as one of the starting afc pro bowl rb's in 2011.

@Odinseye

I guess the Bills Jim Kelly was better than Marino since he has the better head-to-head record? What a pathetic, feeble-minded loser you are! No wonder Jets troll Marcus ran circles around you. It's because you don't know a thing about football!

Nice try Marcus-NOT! Don't even try it. You brought up the Head to Head comparison and then you got ROASTED.

As I said earlier: Deal with it-ROTFLMAO!

PS: Thanks FinsFanMa, it's nice to know this blog isn't completely full of BS and trolls.

Neither Sanchez nor Henne are top 5 nfl qb's. So why are you guys spinning your wheels in the mud?

By now, whether youre on the pro Henne or pro Sanchez, you both need showers from the muddy mess.

I just saw another fromer 2nd round pick, Johm Beck played damn well in his first pre-season game against the Colt's. He throws the ball like Phillip River's! He thru some darts, ran the ball and committed 0 TO's! This regime did not give this guy a chance! He completed 14-17 pasees for 140 yds, and had two rushes for 17 yds! These guy's let another solid 2nd rounder go for nothing in Samson Sateele as well! Otherwise our DEFENSE KICED ASS! We need to have Paul Solai drill Brady with those 359lbs of Samoan Beef! Im gonna be at the stadium at 4pm for that Pat's game RAISING some HELL! GO PHINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Sanchez isnt great enough to totally shred our defense. Neither is Henne great enough to totally shred the Jets defense. So what does it matter who's better than who?

Neither are great enough to even become an after thought in a top 5 nfl qb conversation. At this juncture in both of thier careers both still need to get by with lots of help from thier friends(offense and defense).

Neither Henne nor Sanchez are true nfl juggernaults at the qb position.

WHERE ARE ALL THE HENNE BASHERS, THAT'S RIGHT I WILL BE WEARING #7 TO SHOW REAL PHIN SUPPORT SEPT. 12 LIKE I DID ALL DAY FRIDAY! I WILL STAND BY YOU CHAD, CAUSE THE BASHING HAS SLOWED DOWN! EXCEPT FOR YOUR TYPICAL BANDEAGON FANS

Yessiree Boobies, Sancheeze got up on the BIG stage under the BRIGHT lights and turned into S-A-N-C-H-O-K-E.

Wait for it.......wait for it........not once, but TWICE, Ah ha ha! Back to Back CHOKES. Two consecutive years: Paper Champs 2-0

Reality ChUmps: 0-2.

Let that marinate for a.........well......for the next twenty seasons-ROTFLMAO!

Buh BYE Now!!!!

Shut these chumps up, you have a focused Brandon, who knows he can f**k things up any more, and yes we have Reggie to spell releif!
SPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEED, and Shiftiness! Just need to stay healthy. He's a small guy and got lifted of his feet alot friday

The O-Line Shuffle continues.

Sparano loves them O-Line.

ElCacheUSA,

John Beck, really? Would you like to place a bet right now that the Redskins will be drafting somewhere between #2 and #10 in 2012's draft?

Blew another 2nd rd pick for nothing is about it. Beck maybe a middle of the pack nfl qb at best. We drafted him 2nd rd in 2007. Nfl doesnt wait 5yrs for a 2nd rd qb to develop. Sorry bud!

Wanna compare Henne's career rating to Sanchez's rating? Or how about the number of playoff games started? Or how about playoff games won? Or how about salary? The Dolphins' backup quarterback makes more than Henne!!

HaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Marcus | August 21, 2011 at 09:15 PM

The ONLY Sancheezebag stat worth discussing is his AFC Championship Game stats.

Long story short: 0-2 LoooooooooooSer!

ROTFLMAO-Can you spell SanCHOKE?

Posted by: odinseye | August 21, 2011 at 09:25 PM

What's Henne's AFC championship stat? Chips and dip and a few leeches over to watch the game with him?

Bwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

LMMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Marcus | August 21, 2011 at 09:27 PM

Marcus,

Sorry, I was wrong. There's one more stat worth mentioning.

If we're going to compare Henne and SanCHOKER, lets just compare their head to head win loss record.

I mean the W's are what it's all about, no.

If I remember correctly, Henne has torched cxheezebags pretty much routinely.

Thanks for stopping by DouscheBag!!!!

**************************************************************************************************************

Odinseye, you're an alright dude and I hate to do it to you, but you CLEARLY brought up "head-to-head" first as the above posts clearly show.

I give you an A for effort and a C- for execution. You gotta know when you've stepped in it! Debating 101: Don't paint yourself in a corner! :p

Sanchez, had similar stat's with BETTER receiver's and a much more poilished RB last year! His O-line blew our's away last year! He is gonna CHOKE this year! JJETS are gona MASSAGE my left and right huevos this year! Rex is gonna have a troke this year, he practically had one in the last preseason game. He's FEELING that NY pressure!

No wonder Jets troll Marcus ran circles around you. It's because you don't know a thing about football!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, why are you here defending a wet troll on a Dolphins blog.

You must either be MARCUS or a troll loving F A G G I T.

Let's see, the name says: PhinsfanGA

Uh OH, that must make you Marcus the Blow Hard F A G G I T!

Now go shine PhinFanGa's knob loser.

Buh Bye Now ;)

ElCacheUSA,

Redskins are in the nfc east. Dallas, Philly, and Cards. I believe they finish as cellar dwellars. Im not confident they'll beat out the Cards for 3rd place in that division.

All 3 of the Redskins division rivals have better starting qb's than Beck. That includes the newly acquired Kevin Kolb.

I wish Beck luck, but I still think he'll need a whole lot more of it than I myself can offer.

Thanks, GetAGrip! I knew Odinseye brought it up first but I was too lazy to go look it up for myself!

Pretty embarassing. :-(

You guys arguing who's better, Sanchez or Henne? Really have way too much time on your hands! LOL...

DB, watch the game on NFL Network! He played very well! Also Shanahan loves this guy! Remember he won 2 super bowl's! Im not saying he is gonna light up the NFL, but keep an eye on him

Losen up the grip on your little mini wiener and go back to the begining of the conversation Dude.

I suspect your one of the trolls because you aint being honest about it. If it was an honest mistake on your part, let me apologize in advance.

1. So much for Plaxico Burress slowly working into the mix. He caught three passes for 66 yards and a diving touchdown in his Jets debut.

SANCHEZ HAD BETTER RECEIVER'S, BETTER RB AND HIS OLINE BLEW OURS AWAY LAST YEAR! Otherwise hes an average QB

You people are Stupid to think that Lydon murtha can play football. He lost the games for us against the Patriots and Jets on prime time.He cant block a lego.Te guy is a cancer for the team,I hope he gets hit by a truck.

OUR DEFENSE WILL BE TOP 5 IN THE NFL! oLD SCHOOLD!

Odinseye,

This is Marcus's first post:

Sanchez is taking his lumps just like Henne. Except Sanchez will be the only one getting better and continuing to lead his team deep into the playoffs. Henne has NEVER won a playoff game. Never. Facts are facts.

Posted by: Marcus | August 21, 2011 at 09:08 PM

Nothing about head-to-head there.

Like I said, you clearly brought it up first. Honest mistake maybe?

READY TO BRING SOME SINGLE BARREL JACK AND GET OFF THE FU**ING CHAIN!

Jets will be in lots of trouble against our D this season. Last year our corners matched up pretty well against thier wideout. Sanchez took advantage of our greatest weakness(lb coverage; Crowder). TE Dutin Keller had over 100yds recieving due to this.

This season I dont see that happening. I still think our corners match up well against thier wr's. But Keller wont be steller against Burnett/Dansby.

So he'll hold on to the ball a little longer and do up close and personal turf tours courtesy of Taykor and Wake. Also expects a pick or two.

Get a grip notice the Time Stamp:

Sanchez is taking his lumps just like Henne. Except Sanchez will be the only one getting better and continuing to lead his team deep into the playoffs. Henne has NEVER won a playoff game. Never. Facts are facts.

Posted by: Marcus | August 21, 2011 at 09:08 PM

This is where Marcus initiated the Sanchez/Henne comparison.

I simply told him how it is. Henne has beaten the wets alot more than SanChoke has beaten the Phins.

Now comparatively speaking(and any other way you want to say it) regularly beating a Division Rival is not a STAT. It's "THE STAT"! You know, intra division wins and losses?

I think you owe me an apology.

Otherwise change your screen name and troll on.

Nuff Said.

WHERE IS JOHN JERRY! AT THE BUFFET TABLE

We'll find out real fast if Davis and Smith have turned the corner to becoming premium corners this season. Burnett and Dansby will have TE's in virtual lockdown so many balls will be flying thier way.

After carefully considering the dominating preseason performance versus the mighty Panthers I have erupted in my pants. Ka Boom! Now I shall clean myself up!

DEEEEEEEEEEFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I can't believe know-it-all odinseye didn't know that Henne actually has a higher career rating than Sanchez!! LMAO!! That would have stopped Marcus right in his tracks!! LMAO!!

No matter how you spin it, odinseye, YOU brought up head-to-head wins FIRST. Not him. He brought up playoff wins. NOT HEAD-TO-HEAD.

I tried to give you an easy way out of your easily traceable lie, but I should have known honor was something that you just don't have.

He whupped ya!!!

Go Fins!!!!!!!!!

Odinseye your feisty blogging has me hot for your urine.

I can't believe know-it-all odinseye didn't know that Henne actually has a higher career rating than Sanchez!! LMAO!! That would have stopped Marcus right in his tracks!! LMAO!!

Posted by: GoCanesGo | August 21, 2011 at 11:47 PM

Having a higher passer rating is more important than head to head wins and losses?

(Why do I even respond to idiots?)

PS: How would that stop him in his tracks troll? I say Henne has a higher passer rating, he says so Sanchoke choked all the way to the semi finals. Please tell me you're not this stupid.

There's no more important stat than Henne regularly pounding a division rival. PLEASE, stop with the DUMB SHYT!

Buh Bye Troll!!!!

Not worried about Plaxico Burris at all. The lanky Sean Smith should match up perfectly against. Especially considering Burris has been out of football 2yrs, is 34 going on 35yrs old, and should have clearly lost a step.

Even the great Jerry Rice had lost a step or two by 34-35yrs of age. Burris will only be an advantage for the Jets against the shorter smaller corners in this league. A much younger Smith should have the physical size and ability to turn Plaxico into a pig in blanket.

We have so many gold pieces in the bag. Yet you guys continue to debate about that one "silver piece" called Chad Henne,

On that note Im out fells! LOL...

"There's no more important stat than Henne regularly pounding a division rival."

Whew. Still showing your ignorance, I see.

Taking your team one game away from a Super Bowl is more important. You're pretty slow. Just sayin'.

Stop embarassing us.
