ยซ Ireland: 'Didn't feel like needed to' bring new starting QB | Main | Two thoughts on adding another QB (Pryor), RB (White?) ยป

Long back, suddenly OL is much better

Jake Long, who was not able to pass his physical at the start of training camp because he was still nursing an undisclosed left leg injury, passed over the weekend and is back on the field.

Great timing by him.

Long's return coincides with a game in which reserve left tackle Lydon Murtha, who generally did fine filling in, struggled somewhat with three penalties against Carolina. Murtha wasn't bad at his assignments or anything like that. It's just that those penalties, especially the pre-snap ones, kill drives and he is simply not as good as Long.

So Long returned to practice Saturday and today gets the day off,  along with the rest of Miami's players. Long will be able to assess his physical condition and conditioning following his first dose of practice.

"It feels real good, getting back there with the guys and finally put the helmet on, jersey, run around out there, get to practicing, it felt good,โ€ Long said after practice.

Dolphins coaches might not use Long in the preseason. He is expected to practice every day possible and that work against Jason Taylor, sometimes against Cameron Wake, and against Miami's burly defensive ends, should be good enough to get Long in football shape. The risk versus the reward of having Long crash helmets with another team's defensive linemen in the preseason seems to tip the scales toward risk.

Think about it:

Long worked all of last year next to Richie Incognito so it's not like the two of them need to learn each other. Yes, the offense is new, but I estimate the Dolphins will work between 40-50 team periods in which the first team offense faces the first team defense the next couple of weeks. On the week before the season-opener against the Patriots, and maybe even two weeks before, Long will also get snaps against a scout team.

So why are we worrying about getting him hit in a preseason game again?

"Whatever," Long said laughing. "Whenever coach puts me in there and expects me to play, I will be ready to play."

And with that, it seems the Dolphins starting offensive line is set. Long at left tackle, Incognito at left guard, Mike Pouncey at center, Vernon Carey at right guard and Marc Colombo at right tackle.

The biggest worry of all these for me? Not Long, coming off the injury. Not Pouncey playing as a rookie. Not Carey shifting to a new position at guard.

Colombo.

He has some ugly, ugly moments at times. The other night there was a pass play in which he let a blitzer run right past him untouched and in against Henne. Henne avoided the blitzer by scrambling away and then was hurried by another lineman that ran past Colombo. When that play was done, Colombo had gotten a chance to block two guys and really didn't lay a finger on either. Made me scratch my head.

Can he run-block well? Yes. Pass-block well? Not sure.

{Update: The Rams have released offensive lineman Tyler Donahue, an undrafted rookie out of Bowling Green. Why do you care? Because the Dolphins showed interest in Donahue earlier this year and will be among the teams wanting to add him to their roster. In fact, Donahue had a workout scheduled with the Dolphins Sunday. Donahue is a 6-6 and 300-pound offensive tackle.]

Armando,

Can you please upgrade the blog hit troll and replace him with a Bills Fan?

These choke artist fans have no class, I mean their New Yorkers.

Same Difference ;)

Odinseye,

You were caught red-handed in a lie. In essense, you gave Marcus the rope he needed to hang you with. He did. It's just one debate.

Good Night

i just completed watching the Jets and Bengals and i was not impressed with the Jets. They lost some with brad smith not being around on kickoffs. despite the fact that they won the game they still played pititfully against a bengals first team offense and defense. the bengals LOST the game because of all of the penalities and turnovers they had. Dalton is not starter; at least not at this point. anyhoo, i say we take both off them this year and they will be back in the cellar where they belong. they seem to be comfortable there.

"There's no more important stat than Henne regularly pounding a division rival."

Whew. Still showing your ignorance, I see.

Taking your team one game away from a Super Bowl is more important. You're pretty slow. Just sayin'.

Stop embarassing us.

The Circle Jerk continues. I already roasted you nuts. I'll sit this one out.

You guys are going on supposition, propositions and straight up ignorant predictions. I'm telling you the facts.

Every year, the HENNE led Dolphins defeat the Sanchez led wets in intra division play.

Everytime I state this you have gotten more and more upset-ROTFLMAO.

I guess it's true what they say, the truths hurt.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...............

U Mad?

Marcus shut up dude, you're not fooling anyone.

You got torched and schooled at the same time.

Give it a rest man, go mix a drink or beat up your boyfriend or something. I'm not going to keep arguing about how badly you got schooled.

When you come back 30 minutes later and copy and paste something and THEN make something else up, it just proves my point.

You can't hang with this, Keep On Trolling.

Case Closed ;P

Dm1,

I followed the game on "ticker", I didn't get to watch yet.

Was the wets run D that good or was the Bungles O-line that bad?

there is one unique difference between sanchez and his jets and henne and the dolphins. henne performed well enough to win games but lacked the talent around him on the offense to get the job done. he had to deal with an offensive line that couldn't block for rb's and couldn't pass protect, wide receivers who dropped balls, ran the wrong routes or tipped balls to defenders for int's. this past weeks performance against the panthers was just a preview of things to come. henne will continue to get better.
the jets, on the other hand, won games and made the playoffs despite the fact that they had a worthless p.o.s like sanchez at qb. the guy has regressed. with the offensive line this guy has in front of him and the weapons he has had at wr, te and rb there is no excuse for this guy to not be doing better than he is. tonight's performance against the bengals is a perfect example. he played against a team that was 4=12 last year and didn't look good on offense or defense. if he was as good as everyone says he is he should have shredded the defense and thrown for more than 173 yds. when the fins defense gets to go up against him they are going to pummel him.

odin,
the bengals were pitiful. they had multiple penalities on offense, dalton was innacurate as hell throwing the ball right into the hands of defenders and benson fumbled a handoff on the first play of a drive which the jets should have recovered but knocked out at about the five. jets didn't look good at all. the final score doesn't even come close to telling the story.

after seeing the way the jets have been playing in the preseason i can't wait for the fins to go up against them. if the jets don't pull it together before the season starts they are going to be the team looking at the 7-9 season. they are just sucking on the field.

jets looked a lot better against the texans despite losing to them.

Dm1,

I'm seriously starting to get the feeling the wetspots are in trouble for real. I think they definitely lost ground this off season.

The Patsies on the other hand make our opener bitter sweet. They were clicking at the end of last season, only lost 3 games and seem like they haven't missed a beat.

The good thing about it is, going against tougher competition should only make us better. Win lose or draw, after playing the Patriots, the wetspots and a lot of the rest will seam like a cake walk.

Jets Suck

No matter how you spin it, odinseye, YOU brought up head-to-head wins FIRST. Not him. He brought up playoff wins. NOT HEAD-TO-HEAD.

I tried to give you an easy way out of your easily traceable lie, but I should have known honor was something that you just don't have.

He whupped ya!!!

Go Fins!!!!!!!!!

No matter how you spin it, odinseye, YOU brought up head-to-head wins FIRST.

-Right and this is how your sleazy lying a s s twists things three hours later. It took you three hours to bring this weak attempt The only thing that comes to mind is: YOU=Duh! I must have really made:

U Mad Bro-LOL. Eat me ;)

YOU(marcus, wink, wink) BROUGHT UP THE HENNE SanFaggit comparison. I said OK, lets compare them head to head. Henne beats the snot out of the wets when SanFaggit is quarterbacking them-PERIOD. THIS IS HISTORICAL NFL FACTS AND HISTORY-Deal with it sweet cheeks!

We got your number and beat the snot out of you guys when we were struggling big time. Imagine what you got coming now-LOL.

I'm getting really tired, but ah thanks for the oppurtunity to show everyone here how you operate. Just for the record, we all know who you are, after the same old stuff over and over again, we get used to it. If you're going to remain Armando's BLOG HIT TROLL, you need to tighten up your game. Change things around some. Your being way to see through lately.

Not him. He brought up playoff wins. NOT HEAD-TO-HEAD.

-Right again, you brought up playoff wins, AFTER THE FACT and I corrected you, it was back to back playoff choke artists, ON THE BIG STAGE, UNDER THE BIG LIGHTS! CHee-OKE!!!!

U MAD BRO?

Remember? Remember how mad you got? Thats when you really started impersonating like crazy. You started doing 4 people instead of 3. Yeah, I was counting dumba s s ;)

I tried to give you an easy way out of your easily traceable lie,

Have a Harrpy(wink, wink)night.

PS: Now who's gonna go crying to Armando? I'll give you a hint: Not Me ;)

Odin wrote a novel! Nicely done! I have nothing to say!

Dm1, the Falcons are better than the Texans, although the Texans D is better this year. Just a thought.

Whats with Odin tonite, Seems to be Fighting again with anyone, Must be on his 4th 5th...LOL

On his 10th!

LOL, Yeah more then Likely.

My regards to the Empress!

Thanks Red, Hows life in So. Fla??

Not bad! My youngest son is heading off to college, my oldest son is heading up to FSU for his final year in psychology....and we might be facing a hurricane! Other than that, a few drinks help! What do you think of our team so far? I'm cautiously optimistic!

3 and 13 Sky, Dont see Henne getting better,Still have Fisty as A HC, And know that reggie will only be able to play 7 or 8 games this year, But Ive been wrong before..., I talked to my Pops earlery this evening and he told me the same weather concerns, Well Batten down the hatchs,Buy some Ice and beer, and dust off that generator...

Cuban, Henne has to prove himself for an entire season! One preseason game means nothing, but, to his credit, he played his best game against the worst team in the NFL! Let's see if he can continue, I hope so! Sink or swim this season, for Henne, TS and Ireland!

Sept.12th is truly gonna be a David vs Golithe game,I think 90% will be rooting for the fish though.

You know the Owner is a real Sc#mbag for trying to get Haurhbaugh before firing fisty first,What coach would want to work for this guy?If I Was Fisty when he called the press conferance to announce he's giving Fisty a extension I wish Sporono would have B!tch slap him..

Cuban I agree, but TS looked at the $$$$ offered and took a chance.....for that money I would too, it's enough to retire on!!!!

True... OK Have a great day Sky, Gotta get a couple hours of sleep....

Me too Cuban.....talk soon, thanks!

Been four days since I last visited. Wasn't avoidance. Fourty miles offshore...

The last notable post I read was from ClairVoyance. Person predicted that after the Panther game, the true fans would barely win this weeks squabble vs the naysayer.

Sorry Claire. Although I side with you and the true fan, you failed to see the monster under the bridge. The troll.

Cut one in half and the thing grows to two.

If the team were 2 and 2 headed into the bye, only a third on this blog would be optimistic.

The other 2/3rd would scream the sky was falling, or expressing instead, loathsome bull-crap that goes on under the bridge amidst creatures of likeness.

As far as Myrtha, I have had high hopes for him since we picked him up from Detroit. He has developed and I believe he should be used in place of Colombo.

sometimes in the past few years(sparano era) you, like me, and every dolfan at some point have gotten way down on the team. but, alas, the light is shinning very brightly at the end of the tunnel. there are a lot of teams out there with average guys up front, very few have a great offensive and defensive line rotation. i know it took some time but this year is really the begining of a super team that is only going to get better and more exciting from here on out. it takes time to build a great line, and finally, the Defensive front is set, and they have the linebackers to boot. then you have the Offensive line which is 1 piece away from being STELLAR(right-tackle) the upcoming drafts from here on out will be exciting to say the least. miami now has some depth in every position, so when the 2012 draft finally arrives be ready to see some talent stacking additions. what if we added michael floyd to the recieving core, or the best tight-end, or the top runningback? don't forget free-agency to address right tackle and corner back. yes! it's been a while, and this years team will be very good. REGGIE looks great and is the marshall faulk type player we've been screaming for. and whose to say daniel thomas won't be a gun? watching ronnie and ricky's uninspired and slow ground game made me wonder if coach cammerwrong was still calling the shots. even a dumb fan like me can watch an old game on tape and see the drop in ricky's speed from then to now. i love ronnie, but he needed to loose weight, in 2010 he WASN'T even trying to stay on his feet. no wander sparano WASN'T even trying to sign him. if he felt a hand on his leg he would just go down. REGGIE plays inspired ball, and it will be catchy, it's nice to see a player in a dolphins uniform refuse to get tackled. it's been a while. give reggie the props, and give sparano some love! he did his homework and made a great decision! the bonus? every draft addition from here on out will be gravy! GO FINS

Mr. SPARANO,
thanks!
thanks for doing the unpopular things that had to be done in front of impatient fans like, building a solid foundation! your hard work will pay dividends for years to come. your D8's (heavy machinery) up front will make an addition like REGGIE extremly effective. 2 years ago reggie would have been a waste, but according to what i've seen in this 2nd preseason game you have finally flattened it right on the head. nobody penetrated the middle of that 1200 lb. wall of ritchie, vern, and pouncey, called the O-LINE. those guys were plowing HUGE holes for reggie to run through like i haven't seen since emmit/dallas days! BEAUTIFUL thing!

Mr. Odinseye, I agree with just about all in your somewhat inspiring 8-21 11:45 post except your derision of Armando.
Sorry, he's not paid to be a fan boy, and in a few traded emails with him I discern he was solid for the Fins, though cheerleader is NOT in his job description.

I've been posting on various blogs here (including J Cole's) for nearly 15 years. Jason was WAY less caring of the Fins fate than Mando. The off season music stuff was far more entertaining.
Look out, yahoo Sports has him in Miami this week. don't expect much in the way of positive stuff.

BTW, Cheerleader is for those fans willing to pay the price literally and figuratively and go to the former Joe Robbie Stadium and give our team the proper home field advantage we haven't had since the halcyon days at the Orange Bowl.

I too am guilty of the more than occasional negative slant on our team. I blame it all on the years post Marino that have rendered us not only lacking the requisite wins of a playoff team, but also the fact that even when we won, we were among the most uninteresting teams in the league.

I saw more entertaining football against Carolina than the entire season last year. AS you and others have said, Dan Henning may be the biggest reason we failed. Tony Sparano should have had the guts and smarts to have seen that.

We may only go 8-8/9-7, but I also believe , as you these guys will be a WHOLE lot more fun to watch.

Go Fins!
