A look at QB ranking, Pryor, supplemental draft

Two days ago Eli Manning went on Michael Kay's radio show in New York and made the case for himself as an elite quarterback, a "top five" quarterback. He further said, "I don't consider myself a 25-interception quarterback."

Look, everyone has a right to their opinion, but facts are a wonderful things. And the facts say last season Eli Manning threw 25 interceptions. (Note to Eli Manning: That makes you a 25-interception quarterback).

I may say I'm not a chubby dude, but the scale says I'm a chubby dude. Facts. Get it?

At any rate, as the quarterback topic is something of a big topic in South Florida, I decided to see exactly who are the top five NFL quarterbacks. And the top 10. And the next five in the middling 15. And then the next below average 15. And, of course, the most terrible two at the back of the line.

My quarterback ranking 1-32? It's purely my opinion. It isn't necessarily based on statistics from a year ago alone. It is, once again, my opinion.

Lessgo!

1. Tom Brady.

2. Phillip Rivers.

3. Peyton Manning.

4. Aaron Rodgers.

5. Drew Brees. (Hurts, doesn't it?)

6. Michael Vick. (Dolphins once signed Marcus but looked away from Michael two years ago).

7. Ben Roethlisberger.

8. Josh Freeman (Superstar in the making).

9. Matt Ryan.

10. Tony Romo.

11. Eli Manning (You're not top 5, brother).

12. Matt Schaub.

13. Joe Flacco.

14. Jay Cutler.

15. Matt Cassel.

16. David Garrard. (Can the Dolphins trade for him?).

17. Matt Stafford (When healthy which is none too often).

18. Kyle Orton (The Dolphins tried to trade for him).

19. Carson Palmer (Would be ranked much higher if he was, you know, playing this year).

20. Sam Bradford (He'll be much higher by next season).

21. Matt Hasselbeck.  (Much, much higher when healthy).

22. Donovan McNabb.

23. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Sounds crazy but check the tape).

24. Mark Sanchez (Hurts).

25. Vince Young (Would be higher if he could keep his head together).

26. Alex Smith.

27. Jon Kitna.

28. Jason Campbell.

29. Chad Henne.

30. Tarvaris Jackson.

Tie, 31. Derek Anderson.

Tie, 31. Jake Del Homme

33. Jimmy Clausen.

Obviously, Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne -- the starter for "right now" in Tony Sparano's words -- is not very high on my list. How could he be based on his last two seasons?

Remember Henne's resume in those two years speaks whispers for itself: More INTs than TDs both seasons starting. Under .500 both seasons. Both seasons out of the playoffs. Benched twice last season.

And that leads me to some questions:

Am I blind to put Henne so far down the line? What am I not seeing? What do the Dolphins see that I and, I suspect, many of you don't? If the Dolphins don't see any better than we do, how could they possibly come out of the past two seasons and enter this training camp without even legitimate competition for Henne in the current training camp? Can Henne completely change his stripes and become a good quarterback this year?

Can the Dolphins still find another option at quarterback?

On that last question, you should know the NFL has set its supplemental draft for Monday. Terelle Pryor has been made eligible for that draft. The Dolphins are expected to be represented at Saturday's workout Pryor will put on for teams in the Pittsburgh area.

Will they use a late-round pick on Pryor?

Frankly, Pryor is a long, long, long range project. He proved in college he is coachable because he improved as a player at Ohio State. But he wasn't necessarily good. He couldn't lead his team to a conference title. His arm strength is average at best and accuracy is inconsistent.

Is he worth a seventh-round pick? Maybe.

In my opinion, North Carolina 3-4 OLB Michael McAdoo, Western Carolina's Torez Jones, and Lindenwood's 314-pound DE Keenan Mace, are better prospects than Pryor. Defensive back Tracy Wilson is also in the supplemental draft.

Oh that is his name... I get it now, not created to attack me. My apologies.

My mamma told me I have a set, but she did appreciate your concern.

Thanks for clearing that up.

to the other bloggers, sorry to waste your time on those posts

No competition for Henne means that the billionaire is tanking the season. If you can't see that, then you are either married Mrs Henne or Mrs Soprano.

i know it is your list, your opinion. But, Rodgers and Roethlisberger must be higher.

Brady, Rodgers, Manning, Brees, Roethlisberger.

Rivers is a great QB, but not top five in my book.

I dont think his list is very off. Not having played a down I'd also put Dalton and Gabbert ahead of Henne as well. Henne is the bottom of the barrel QB. He is best suited to be a back up for a middle of the pack team. Dare I say it, but I'd rather have John Beck back here running this team. Gave up on him too soon, he'll surprise people with the Redskins this year.

You can have Garrard. He is the black Chad Henne with some mobility. Another Mr. Check-down.
Gabbert will start this year.

I will search for the links, But there were reviews on Henne by Tony Dungee, Trent Dilfer, Jaws, Troy Aikman that were basically positive. Simms more negative.

Because they said it does not make it true. Obviously both sides can't be right.

Crowder blasted Henne, Bess had great things to say.

Everyone has an opinion, it is what it is.

We will know more when the season starts. Optomists believe he will be much better.
Others believe he is bottom of the barrell.

We keep going round and round on this, the one thing I figured out is until the real season starts no one is going to change their mind.

NASDAQ IS DOWN............... 7%..............BACALA ...

Poizen what do you expect Bess, his current slot receiver to say? Ridiculous to even mention that.

Some refuse to acknowledge that forget the analysts, players, critiques, ect, those who know him best, his own coaching staff, benched him twice and made a concerted effort to bring in lowly Orton to replace him. Thats the most telling of all.

I WOULD SWEAR ODIN HAS BEEN DRUNKING SINSE 8AM, BUT I KNOW HE DO NOT GET UP TILL 5PM EVERY DAY.FAKE ODINEYE ON THE BLOG WRIGHT NOW.

nome, I know he was benched, but the info from Bess did not come to me through media outlets, it was at a bar in Davie, where he was being quite candid. He then answered the same way to Mando, but a little less candid on other things.

So for me it was worth mentioning. I posted a while back when that happened. If it came strictly from a tv interview, i would put no value on it.

watch beck beat the phins this season. wow!, wouldn't that be a swift kick in the balls to spazano and that penis w/ glaxxes ireland.lol

2watt, no question that would be a tough pill to swallow!

is the wash. game at the joe,?. if it is and beck beats the phins. spazano and ireland will stand on the sideline and all of the phans " all 30 of them"lol, that are at the joe will line up after the game and kick both of those buffoons in the jewels.lol

Did somebody say swallow? YAY!

poizen, ran into mark clayton, remember him,?. he said henne is useless.

Poizen, 2Watt, I was thinking Wash. Would be a win in a 5 and 11 season, With a Win by the skins that would bring them down to 4 and 12., Tell me it aint so guys.

Check your facts. Pryor led Ohio State to 1 out-right Big Ten Title and a share of one more. That's at least a share of 2 conference championships, a far cry from the none you claim. Doesn't speak much of your journalistic integrity if you cant even check the most simple facts before spewing forth wrong information. Also, maybe you could have mentioned the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl Championships he won. Or if you wanted to get real creative why not mention his numbers are, in fact, better than Cam Newton's numbers. Just saying. GO BUCKS!

2watt, the skins game is at home!

FP4FGs, I have the skins game as a W. Keep the faith!

4fg. 4-12 is to good to get luck tho.the phins would pix 2nd. another swift kick to the phans. ooooooomph!

what's up guys? just wanted to add, I finally got to see that 1st INT by Henne vs. Falcons, and I have to admit, that was Fasano's fault. No, Henne did not lead his receiver and put the ball in the most perfect spot for maximum YAK, but c'mon, that was in the guy's hands. He was basically square with Henne (the pass WASN'T behind him).

It's not Henne's fault, or Fasano's, it's Ireland's. And, I guess he's just saying the TE isn't important. He upgraded at C, RB (well, we'll see if that's much of an upgrade), but didn't bring ANY competition for Fasano, who would be just as low down a list of TE's as Henne on Mando's list (though I'd put him over Smith honestly).

I can't fault Henne here, he is who he is (mediocre). Everyone sees it but the GM, and that you either need a superstar cast around Henne to make him winnable in this league (as of now) or you need a better QB. Ireland's to blame folks, Henne's just a player.what's up guys? just wanted to add, I finally got to see that 1st INT by Henne vs. Falcons, and I have to admit, that was Fasano's fault. How did I know someone would post something like that.

nice 2watt.

Anyway... if it is not going to support your opinion you will continue to do anything to shoot it down.

No skin of my back.

i'll wait for the season.

sorry, not sure why that posted twice

poizen dc, it's not hennes fault, it is fat tuna ireland and spazanos fault.

At least Henne is better than the number one draft pick and Heisman winner Cam Newton. Isaac's boy didn't even make the list.

Rick, Cam hasnt played a game yet.. Just saying.

IS IT ME, OR ARE POEPLEW AGAINST THE GREAT CHAD HENE, IF THEY ARE ,WHEN HE TROWS FOR 44TDS THIS YEAR WHAT WELLTHE COMPLIAN ABOUT?

Even me, ...who has whined that we should trade for/sign/beg/create-in-Frankensteins-lab anyone to replace the excuses we have at QB currently ... WOULD NOT recommend wasting time on Pryor. If you can't win with Ohio State's talent vs. conference, then you ain't gonna make it in the NFL son. Troy Smith is undoubtedly better, and he's struggling for the #2/#3 spot. Nope. Facts are against Pryor being special, or even adequate. Save the money for next draft. We have plenty of back-up caliber QBs right now.

TEN and SIX!! TEN and SIX!! TEN and SIX!! TEN and SIX!! TEN and SIX!! TEN and SIX!! TEN and SIX!! TEN and SIX!! TEN and SIX!! TEN and SIX!!

I Will say this, Putting up 28 points in a game for the fins is great., Unfortuinly it was against the 2nd,3rd, and Scout team for the falcons.FIST PUMP.

If you could convince him to play wide receiver, he would be worth drafting.

4.3 in the forty yard dash and 6"6"

Maybe, Hawk. Just paint $$ signs on the ball and send him downfield. He'll grab it, probably.

Hawk, Ted Ginn, 6"3" 4.3 speed, How'd that work out?Again, Just saying, It might be a supplementle draft, But They'd have to give up a 3rd or 4th rd draft to get him,. Not worth the bother, He's got more Issues then Aloco.

2watt, not sure if your being sarcastic, but i do blame Parcells for most of this disaster we have gone through.

Henne has made his errors, and needs to get better, but all of last season is not on his shoulders. there is a team and coaching to share the burden.

TEN and SIX...Maybe ELEVEN and FIVE!! YEA! ELEVEN and FIVE!! ELEVEN and FIVE!! ELEVEN and FIVE!! ELEVEN and FIVE!! ELEVEN and FIVE!! ELEVEN and FIVE!! ELEVEN and FIVE!! ELEVEN and FIVE!! ELEVEN and FIVE!! ELEVEN and FIVE!! ELEVEN and FIVE!!

Stephen in Pompano, WTF are you talking about? Are you judging QB's on their looks?? Are you gay?

Agree Poizen,STUFF flows down hill, IMHO It all comes down to "Mr.Hollywood" himself, It's crazy that this guy is a A owner of this Franchise, My advice to the NFL, look who wants to buy a club and make sure the:Compatent" enough to run it.

Guys....Henne was handcuffed by the Parcels regime and never allowed to make any audibles at the line.
His leash was TIGHT and old father time "Henning" was a "3 yds and a cloud of dust" coordinator.

Give Henne room to GROW under Daboll's new West Coast System and maybe we'll get rewarded with some exciting football.

As for Pryor....he does not excite me and there are plenty of talented young QB's coming into next years draft....He would just be a distraction in the locker room.

Rex Ryan Called Mark Sanchez an "Elite" QB today

My Fans,

Based on what Rex said, since I'm as good as Sanchez, I can at least be considered above average! You can cite Rex Ryan's big mouth as grounds for your continued, unwavering support!

Just remember, I still lock into my receivers, am slow in my reads & I'm as innaccurate as ever!

Sincerly,
Chad Henne

Id rather have Henn then Shancez... again OMO

Stephen...I'll take a "Retarded Rolisberger" and his TWO Super Bowl Trophies and day of the week!

LMAO @ Chad Henne @ 4:48...Good stuff!

Here's my list with a few changes:

(Henne really SUCKS)

1. Tom Brady.

2. Peyton Manning.

3. Aaron Rodgers.

5. Drew Brees.

6. Michael Vick.

7. Ben Roethlisberger.

8. Josh Freeman (Superstar in the making).

9. Matt Ryan.

10. Tony Romo.

11. Eli Manning.

12. Matt Schaub.

13. Joe Flacco.

14. Jay Cutler.

15. Matt Cassel.

16. David Garrard.

17. Matt Stafford.

18. Kyle Orton.

19. Carson Palmer.

20. Sam Bradford.

21. Matt Hasselbeck.

22. Donovan McNabb.

23. Ryan Fitzpatrick.

24. Mark Sanchez.

25. Vince Young.

26. Alex Smith.

27. Jon Kitna.

28. Jason Campbell.

29. Colt McCoy.

30. Tarvaris Jackson.

Tie, 31. Derek Anderson.

Tie, 31. Chad Henne.

32 Jimmy Clausen.

When your only better than Jimmy Clausen and the jury is still out on even THAT, You must really suck ASS.

Anyone who thinks " Check Down Chad " should be ranked any higher than DEAD LAST hasn't watched DOLPHINS FOOTBALL games or are BLIND like Fist Pumper Tony Sparano or Jeff " I don't do FREE AGENT QB'S " Ireland should be committed to a Mental Institution for the Criminally Stupid. These guys will be washed out next year and hopefully a new HC and FO will be in place that can EVALUATE TALENT and DRAFT QUALITY PLAYERS.

(See Patriots Blueprint)

But, Hey according to TONY " we are getting through this thing pretty good and we'll see how it shakes out, here, pretty soon. "

Yeah, ok, fortunately for US Dolphin fans you won't be around to see it, FIELD GOAL FIST PUMPER.

Nick, you forgot #4

NH, You mean "Rapistburger" Right?

somebody must have crapped in Nick's corn flakes this morning....

Stephen in Pompano, sensitive aren't we? You may have and they all probably have STD's O Plenty.

Stephen...I hear ya.
Ugly as a shoe but unusually great talent

Sorry Schmoe and NHFINSFAN,

I just get tired of waiting and waiting for this sudden transformation that WE are suppose to see, entering his 4th year and throwing the INT in the Falcons game. (not to Fasano)

I just don't see any marked improvement as stated by numerous posters, Henne still lacks touch, stares down receivers, and hold the freaking ball too long.

The so-called experts don't see any reason for this other than he doesn't possess the mental part of the game to be a quality starting quarterback in the league.

Case in point: Josh Freeman, Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, rookies or guys who are poised and don't hesitiate to let it go and not be so indecisive, I don't know if it's the Coaching or just no talent ? Any thoughts ?

Chad Henne___ 29?? Armando you're toooo kind.. Henne shouldn't even be on that list, he's a back up QB

Yeah, give Henne room to grow, I mean after 10 losing or mediocre seasons with no playoff expectations whatsoever, what could 5 more mean?

If in 5 more years we see that Henne still throws the ball to the right place even if he has ALREADY NOTICED that his receiver missed the rout and/or he does not learn to look somewhere else besides the place where he is going to throw the ball we might start thinking about drafting another rookie in the second or third round in the draft.

Way to go Dolphins! Way to go!

Rivers at 2, remind me how many rings does he have? Super when?

Actually, I think 'Stephen' is yanking some chains here but believe it or not there's actually some science behind that theory. It's long been known that good-looking men have an easier time getting others to follow their lead and that other men tend to "look up" to them, whether they are conscious of it or not.

Freud could probably have a field day with the subconscious sexual implications of that, not to mention what it says about the shallow nature of society in general, but it remains no less true.

To say that there may be a correlation between athletic/leadership success and good looks is not as crazy as it sounds.

Can we just forget about one play that has been way over diagnosed and totally meaningless?

The first pass of preseason was an interception. Yes Fasano should have caught it, he didn't. Yes Henne could have placed it a little better, he didn't. The fact that it was the very first throw has magnified it way out of proportion. Let's just whack that one play out of all future discussions.

Pretty please?

That science may be correct in the corporate world but athletes are rugged barbaric men and no one cares how the QB looks. Stop with this idiotic theory. The QB where's a helmet also so no one is looking at how pretty he is.

this list is a joke

You're sounding like a fan, not a professional sports writer. Why do you hate Henne so? The season hasn't even started yet. He'd be great his year except we still have no line, no TE, and no running game.

Larrt, The list is pretty close to Realism. IMHO, Eli claiming he's in the same league as Tom Brady ias Akin to me saying I'm inb the same League as Brad Pitt... laughable..

thank you LAfinsfan. You should get Mando's job, but judging by you're intelligence I imagine you earn 10X what he does an wouldn't want it.
