A look at QB ranking, Pryor, supplemental draft

Two days ago Eli Manning went on Michael Kay's radio show in New York and made the case for himself as an elite quarterback, a "top five" quarterback. He further said, "I don't consider myself a 25-interception quarterback."

Look, everyone has a right to their opinion, but facts are a wonderful things. And the facts say last season Eli Manning threw 25 interceptions. (Note to Eli Manning: That makes you a 25-interception quarterback).

I may say I'm not a chubby dude, but the scale says I'm a chubby dude. Facts. Get it?

At any rate, as the quarterback topic is something of a big topic in South Florida, I decided to see exactly who are the top five NFL quarterbacks. And the top 10. And the next five in the middling 15. And then the next below average 15. And, of course, the most terrible two at the back of the line.

My quarterback ranking 1-32? It's purely my opinion. It isn't necessarily based on statistics from a year ago alone. It is, once again, my opinion.

Lessgo!

1. Tom Brady.

2. Phillip Rivers.

3. Peyton Manning.

4. Aaron Rodgers.

5. Drew Brees. (Hurts, doesn't it?)

6. Michael Vick. (Dolphins once signed Marcus but looked away from Michael two years ago).

7. Ben Roethlisberger.

8. Josh Freeman (Superstar in the making).

9. Matt Ryan.

10. Tony Romo.

11. Eli Manning (You're not top 5, brother).

12. Matt Schaub.

13. Joe Flacco.

14. Jay Cutler.

15. Matt Cassel.

16. David Garrard. (Can the Dolphins trade for him?).

17. Matt Stafford (When healthy which is none too often).

18. Kyle Orton (The Dolphins tried to trade for him).

19. Carson Palmer (Would be ranked much higher if he was, you know, playing this year).

20. Sam Bradford (He'll be much higher by next season).

21. Matt Hasselbeck.  (Much, much higher when healthy).

22. Donovan McNabb.

23. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Sounds crazy but check the tape).

24. Mark Sanchez (Hurts).

25. Vince Young (Would be higher if he could keep his head together).

26. Alex Smith.

27. Jon Kitna.

28. Jason Campbell.

29. Chad Henne.

30. Tarvaris Jackson.

Tie, 31. Derek Anderson.

Tie, 31. Jake Del Homme

33. Jimmy Clausen.

Obviously, Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne -- the starter for "right now" in Tony Sparano's words -- is not very high on my list. How could he be based on his last two seasons?

Remember Henne's resume in those two years speaks whispers for itself: More INTs than TDs both seasons starting. Under .500 both seasons. Both seasons out of the playoffs. Benched twice last season.

And that leads me to some questions:

Am I blind to put Henne so far down the line? What am I not seeing? What do the Dolphins see that I and, I suspect, many of you don't? If the Dolphins don't see any better than we do, how could they possibly come out of the past two seasons and enter this training camp without even legitimate competition for Henne in the current training camp? Can Henne completely change his stripes and become a good quarterback this year?

Can the Dolphins still find another option at quarterback?

On that last question, you should know the NFL has set its supplemental draft for Monday. Terelle Pryor has been made eligible for that draft. The Dolphins are expected to be represented at Saturday's workout Pryor will put on for teams in the Pittsburgh area.

Will they use a late-round pick on Pryor?

Frankly, Pryor is a long, long, long range project. He proved in college he is coachable because he improved as a player at Ohio State. But he wasn't necessarily good. He couldn't lead his team to a conference title. His arm strength is average at best and accuracy is inconsistent.

Is he worth a seventh-round pick? Maybe.

In my opinion, North Carolina 3-4 OLB Michael McAdoo, Western Carolina's Torez Jones, and Lindenwood's 314-pound DE Keenan Mace, are better prospects than Pryor. Defensive back Tracy Wilson is also in the supplemental draft.

First, I couldn't care less about a QB list given by beat writer.

Second, I never listen too, nor care about the opinions of writers in sports who never swung a bat, put a mitt on, threw a baseball or football, put on a jock strap, put on cleats, or shoulder pads.

I'll keep my opinion of what I see. Hopefully we all see something good Friday night!!

Until we find the answer at QB, we better take a chance on every possible up side QB talent. I would take pryor just because you could turn him into a pretty good receiver if the QB thing did not work out.

Still think we are going to shoot ourselves for not going after Young, just like we should be shot for not going after Vick.

Keep wishing that Henne would turn into a leader might still happen. Till then I keep wishing the football gods would force someone to cut a real QB with some up side.

Why we have no comp for QB spot baffles me. You do have to say Sparano has made his bed and seems willing to lie in it.

Hope for the best. Go Dolphins!!

FP, DID YUO GETB YOUR EDUCATIION IN MEXICO?, YOU WRITE LIKE A FENCE JUMPER.

Josh Freeman number 8? Come on.

Last thing Parcels said as he was fleeing South Florida last August:

"I'm disappointed in Henne's development"

He thought Henne was as good as Flacco & Ryan in the 2008 draft and was doing some "discount shopping".

Well the old adage is still true today:

"You buy cheap you get cheap" - The lone exception is and always will be Tom Brady at #199.

I have my doubts about your ranking of Mark Sanchez... He had sooo many weapons, and a decent offensive coordinator the past 2 seasons, and hasn't separated himself from Henne in a major way...

I honestly think you should recosider that...

I know Henne was not the best not even a top 20 but let me tell you something, there is no way Jason Cambell is better than he is... you must really Hate Henne to put it down there

Armando I know you believe most of the people in here are dunces so I'm going to point out to said dunces what this is really about.

Henne is the hot topic right now and is getting blogs a lot of hits all over the net. There are two camps. Camp#1 "Let Henne have one more season to see if he has grown from his first year as an NFL starter". Camp #2 Henne sucks and isn't worth the time".

Both of these camps will argue with each other until their fingers are numb from typing so much. These people are arguing in the blogs. Authors of blogs want more hits which translate to more popularity and possibly more money from that.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what Mando is doing I'm just here to point out to the people that actually think he cares about these topics that you're wrong. One name will prove my point.

DAUNTE CULPEPPER! I never would have imagined how many hits Armando would get by simply writing about Daunte. TONS! And so he wrote more,,,,and more,,,,and more,,,,and people ate it up. Then one time I think he just wrote "Daunte Culpepper, discuss" and the simpletons were out in large numbers to discuss the same topic once again.

I'm not falling for it. We've been over this (in this blog especially ) to death. There is nothing more to say and nothing to discuss because it's all been said and done. Talking about Chad Henne some more is idiotic. So have fun sheep, you've been talking about this for 4 weeks now and Mando just tricked you into bringing up the same exact yays and nays that we've already been through!!

I agree Henne is better than Campbell, Smith, VY, Kitna,
Heck even Cassel & Fitzpatrick.

On a side note, why is it every time I post something it shows up the next day or two on the front page of the Herald written by one of the other reporters. I'm seriously starting to believe that some reporters come into Mandos blog for story ideas! This has happened three times so far this season the most recent being my post about the running back situation that, surprise surprise showed up as a story this morning. Same exact subject. Maybe I'm just intuitive and should be writing for the Herald? I seem to be thinking of the stories before most of these guys do. Mando get me a job! Not only will I write stories on the phins but I can fix anything and will be really handy around the office!

Hey LouD....this is therapy for a lot of us.
We need to vent and our wives are ignorant to the facts, so we hit up the blogs.
Who cares if Armando gets a raise because his blog hit 3M his last month!

LOUD...... THIS HAPPENED WITH A FEW TIMES ,WE LIVE IN THE AGE OF LAZY REPORTERS WHO ;LACK EDUCATION AND SHAME ....... THEY GET PAID 12 DOLLRA A DAY ,WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ???????

Last thing Parcels said as he was fleeing South Florida last August:

"I'm disappointed in Henne's development"

The funny thing is that the person I'm most disappointed in is Parcells, what a putz. He picks Henne over Ryan and when things don't work out he blames Henne? HE BLAMES HENNE!? Henne didn't pick himself! Isn't Parcells supposed to be some drafting genius? Parcells took Pat White in the second round!!! He fought with Ireland over the pick because Jeff was against it. I don't ever want to hear that again, if he has anyone to be disappointed in he need look no further than into his own mirror.

Watch how this becomes a story for tomorrows paper!

NH... I THINK THE WIFES ARE SMARTER THAN US ,THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT CRAPY FOOTBALL AND CARE ABOUT THE HAIR ,WHAT TO COOK AND ENJOY EATING ,,,PLUS THEY GO OUT MORE ,

Gotta fly boyz.
Hey Henne....light up the score board tomorrow night and shut these Fuc***s up!

WIVES

Lou Ask for Money, If thet dont give it, Do what everyone else does... Go for Litagation...

FP4FGs ,

I NEED TO ASK ARMANDO FOR MONEY ALSO FOR USING MY OUTSTANDING IDEAS ...

NHFINSFAN, no disrespect here but if people are still talking about Henne, after we have said everything there is to say the past month, and we know there's nothing that we can do about it, then they may need real therapy.lol

Seriously man, it's so old. It's actually getting annoying. You know how when a child complains about something and you try to solve their problem, but they just keep complaining about the same thing over and over as if that will make it better? That's what this discussion has become, a childs nonsensical rant over the fact that Spaghettios don't taste like pop tarts. Over, and over, and over, and over, and................

Aloco, Are you Lou:p

FP4FGs, Good idea! :) Also, love the handle

Aloco you crazy bastardo! :) $12 a day? WTF? You know they make more than that right? You're too funny my man!

loud... AGRRE ,,,,ANY ONE WRITES ABOUT HENNE AFTER ALL THESW UGLY POSTS THAT ARMANDO MANAGES TO WRITE IS JUST ... A FARMER ..........

My favorite crack-up of the day:

Armando,

Since you're not busy digging up any Dolphin news, you think you can sneak into the locker room and baseball bat Colombo's knee, Ala Tonya Harding style?

AwwwwwwwwwwwwwwRiiiiiiiiiight MIAMI!!!!

Posted by: odinseye | August 18, 2011 at 01:02 PM

Odin- I shudder to think of Colombo starting at RT...at least we'll be able to quit arguing about Henne, because he'll be in the hospital.

This sucks. NH I want to talk Dolphins as well but everyone in here apparently works in an office and stops talking around 4:30. I get home around 530 or 6 and.....................crickets. Then around 8 pm the kids come out and this place is ridiculous. I'm in the same boat with the wife thing but I never have anyone to talk to about the phins. AND I live in NY now! Okay I'm out, I'll have to take a day off or hope for another rain day I guess! Peace

Armando,

Actually your rankings are great news for Chad Henne:

As we know Henne had 19 picks last season. We also know at least 5 of those picks were 100% on his recievers, not Henne. So based on that, Henne really only had 14 picks directly on him.

Henne only had 15 td's passing. But there's plenty blame to go around there. Very little overall offensive speed, oline problems, and Dan Henning's unimaginative offense followed by play calling.

This year's offense has much added overall offensive speed, more imaginative offensive sets, and a new OC. So, IMO, there's a good chance Henne can keep his picks around 15 and raise his td total by ten(25td's).

So, Armando, by your rankings today a 25td 15 int 2011 would rank Henne in the 10th-11th position if your exact same ranking system were done one year from now.

A 25td 15 int 2011 isnt to far fetched to expect from Henne this season.

LouD-
I agree with you about the "Henne Debate". I'm so over it. I tried to get everyone to focus on the real issue several days ago.

We MUST draft a 1st Rd QB next draft.

Aloco, Iam tired of "G.O.D"(aGng of defeat), What group can I join next to show my dissatifaction?

As long as Henne can stay away from miltiple 2 pick games we're good. Because this year's offensive weapons present far more difficulty in matchup situations than 2010's. Particularly in the red zone.

ALoco-
Are you serious about your prediction for 4000 yds and 44 TD's?

You called me the voice of reason a while back. I have to tell you- 44 TD's ain't happenin'

I hope 4000 yds is correct, that would be good for the FINS, but 44 TD's... Wake up, Dorothy!

DYEING BREAD HJAS ARRIVED,LOOK FOR MANY CHANGING VIEWS, ESSPICALLY FOR FLIPPER HIMSELF DYING BREED.

I think some qb's are very even which makes it hard to rank them. I think more of us (but not all) would agree if the list was done in groups:

1. Elite
2. Good
3. Average
4. Below Average
5. Poor

I would personally rank Henne as a #4, Eli would be in the #2 category.

LOUD... WE R TALKING SOUTH FL REPORTERS ON THE INTERNET MOST OF THEIR DAY ........... NO NEED FOR ANY THING NO EXCPET KNOWING SOME ONE AT A PAPER AT THE RIGHT MOMENT AND GETS 45 BUCS A DAY WITHOUT ANY EDUCATING AT THE MOST .......

MOST NEWS PAPERS WILL CLOSE IN 2 YEARS TIME AT THE MOST .

Fist Pump-

Here's a group for you- "The Return to Glory Group"

We INSIST on a 1st Rd QB next year, and multiple championships in the near future.

The QB debate has gone on non stop since December, it's nothing new.

If you don't like it and keep coming back, that just means you have no life.

DB-
I know he has a history of injuries, but Reggie's been working out like a demon....he may surprise a lot of people this year.

We didnt select Mark Ingram like some of us may have wished. But for a change, possibly the guy we overlooked(Ingram) may end up being an assett to us instead of liability.

Because Bush was snubbed by Saints for Mark Ingram. Bush seems to be a man own a mission in 2011. When told of Bush's extra work in camp(coming early staying late) Saints sources say he wasnt doing these things while in New Orleans.

Upon reading this I definitely see Bush has a major chip on his shoulder in 2011. He's out to prove the Saints wrong for replacing him with Ingram. Not selecting Ingram in the 2011 draft could turn out to be one of the greatest offseason moves period!

LOL At Fin fan, Every year I Root,Root Root for the mighty fins, But The last 14 have been painful. The last 2 really have me down.

Advice-
The QB situation is critical, but debating about Henne is a moot point now. WE can only hope for the best at this point. He's all we've got this year.

So, there's a lot more to talk about than Henne, and some people here have an amazing sense of humor. Every day here, someone cracks me up.

FIN72.... THAT WAS A FAKE ALOCO ..

I feel you Fist Pump!

I'm ready for a Return to Glory!

Holy cow. This guy put Rivers ahead of Peyton. And Freeman based off one season. Guess what, brother? You just lost all credibility.

bottom line henne sucks, he will prove it once again this season. his numbers will be more like maybe 2,500 yards passing, 28 ints, and 8 tds.

mando

classic "push the button" article your trademark

as a henne supporter i can't disagree with your rankings based on PAST performance

understand one thing - people like to say your only as good as your last game BUT actually u r only as good as your NEXT game

everything in your list is based on past perormance even for brady and p manning whilst that (past performance) is generally the best predictor for future performance it is ultimately flawed and currently irrelevent to the fins (as non of the qb's above henne r on the roster)so like every fan of every team we'll all just have to WAIT AND SEE how our teams get on in the NEW season!!!

I am ready to eat any time henne is ready to serve my dinner

Breed, He'll(Bush) be out by the 4th game for 4 weeks, Its just the way he is.But he'll be back for games 10 thru 14, then out again, I think he has a "Groin" problem, At least thats what I've learn from E! or more presicely "Keeping up with the Kardashians"..Just saying, he has NO CHIP, This guys a CHUMP..

Boy, is that Saratoga meet tough! Forget it, I'm going back to my home Track.

ALoco-
Why do you get faked so much? It must be quite an honor.

I've been busy the last several days, how was your soup Sat.?

Breed, Fist Pump-

I hope Reggie is about to show his very best. He should be motivated as hell, and seems to be working his BUTT off to prove he can be a star.

We are DUE for a positive experience after all the busts we've brought in as FA's, right?

Maybe he surprises us...

Yes, Bush will suprise us. The very same way Grove and Smiley surprised us. We'll get a great half season out of him, a few games next year, then trade for a 6th round pick and a donut.

I Mean lets face it, They(Front office) Didnt draft Ingram,Failed to pick up a QB,Failed at free agency only to pick up a busted Reggie Bush., LMAO, 5 and 11 if there lucky, Hopefully Fisty will be 86ed sometime after Oct 2, Then we can(Againb) Rebuild, I'am looking forward to a 2017 super bowl appeance..Just Saying.Oh yeah, for that 2017 SB The Idiot Owner too must go, What's Oprah up to Now?LOL

Ugh. Henne fatigue. Quarterback fatigue. I wish the backup defensive end positions could be debated so thoroughly.

I'd complain more, but it isn't 1990. You don't win by "running and stopping the run." You win by throwing the ball into the endzone more effectively than the other team, and hopefully winning 42 to 38.

So beat the quarterback dead horse all you want. Its seriously boring and tiresome, but very relevant.

I think that was a very fair assesment of the QB's in the league. The only thing I would really want to change is swap Philip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers at 2 and 4.

I hate putting Brady at #1 though. Just because he's a Patriot and well, I'm biased.

Henne is right around where he should be ranked based on his past performance. That should tell the Dolphins something. You have one of the worst starting QB's in the league and everybody but you knows it.

Here's to hope!

The more I see and hear Coach Sparano the more I am reminded of Dave Wannestant.

Sparano has blinders on with Henne, same as Wanny did with Fielder.

We had to endure Fielder for 3 and Half seasons (2000-2004). At least we had winning records.

Sparano and Ireland will never admit they made a mistake in drafting Long & Henne over Matt Ryan.

Fist Pump-
You must be SUICIDAL if you really believe all that! WOW..2017?

I hope it doesn't take that long. I 've accepted the fact that we won't contend this year, but I hope we'll get back to the BIG GAME within 3 years.

I don't expect Fisty to be around, and I doubt lil' Jeffy either, although he's done better without the Tuna around. Still very frustrating, I know.

I wish Tuna had taken the job with Atlanta. Think about that...

Looking over the Schedule, I know we can beat Houston. Other beatable Teams are Cleveland, Denver, Washington, Buffalo x2 and Oakland. That's 7, aroud what LV is predicting. Winning one from NE and Jets and we are 9-7, maybe in the Playoffs. However, Vegas doen't think so at this Time. Any thoughts?

Nick, Apperently this is your first time here, Every one for the past 2 and a half years have said this. Thanks for stopping by though.

What if Tuna goes to Atlanta and they get stuck with Henne, while our FO drafts Ryan...

Wow, what a difference that would have made. We thought we "WON" the Tuna sweepstakes. Were we ever wrong on that one...

Mandy your list sucks. Top 5

1.Tom Brady
2.Aaron Rodgers
3.Peyton Manning
4.Drew Brees
5.Matt Ryan

Also I would rate Chad Henne last on that list I think Jimmy Clausen would be an upgrade to what we have now. Henne need to go asap.

Bet your $!, Bet your $!, now!

Henne plays like I look. So does Sanchez for that matter.

Any thoughts here on Henne as a legitimate long term starter?
