Agent: Benny Sapp released by Dolphins

Well, that didn't take long.

The Miami Dolphins have cut cornerback Benny Sapp after he was among the Miami cornerbacks who got burned by the New England Patriots and Tom Brady on Monday night.

Agent Andy Simms made the announcement on his twitter account earlier.

Sapp is the one who gave up the 99-yard touchdown to Wes Welker and several other completions. He also gave up a 2-yard TD to Welker that actually seemed just as troubling in that he competed better on the long TD than the quick pass in the flat TD.

By the way, Sapp wasn't alone in playing poorly against New England. Nolan Carroll similarly got burned several times. Vontae Davis got beat a handful of times before he left the game with cramps in the third quarter. Sean Smith suffered the least damage of Miami's corners but he also struggled at times against the Patriots.

The assumption here is Sapp will be replaced on the roster. The further assumption is that Will Allen will be the man replacing Sapp. Final further assumption: Look for the Allen reunion to happen by Wednesday.

This Sapp move raises several issues:

One: The NFL is a what-have-you-done-lately league and Sapp learned that.

Two: The same people that decided Sapp was good enough to be on the team last week are deciding this week he's not good enough to be on the team, which shows their initial evaluation was wrong.

Frankly, I think Sapp is still better than Carroll right now. He had a better training camp. But Carroll is younger. He's a draft pick. He has ability to grow as a player yet. And he was less expensive than Sapp.

the national media loves to criticize miami. the trigger was the embarrassing debacle involving ross, ireland, sporano, and harbaugh, followed by the humiliating search for a replacement for henne. in any case, after watching orton last night, be very happy he turned us down.

Can we cut Spore-anus too?

Can TS step up and show he belongs in the HC spot in the NFL ?
Mr. Ross it is your call not ours but we buy the seats and pay the salaries.

Hey Armando, what's going on with Colombo? Is he finally speaking to the media? If so, can you ask him how his first game as a Miami Dolphin felt?

Henne had one good game!!!! remember when Beck beat the pats?

...uhh, dude you need to check your facts. Beck has never beaten anybody in this league nor has he been the starting QB in a game his team won.

Anyway neither Houston's offense or defense is as good the Pats.
We should hang 40 on them.

"Two: The same people that decided Sapp was good enough to be on the team last week are deciding this week he's not good enough to be on the team, which shows their initial evaluation was wrong."

BINGO!

I was saying this over and over in my head before I even got through three sentences of this story. I am so happy to see that Armando pointed this out because it might not be obvious to some. Everyone including and especially Ross should think about this long and hard.

How many times has this regime let go of players that we should have kept? How many players have they missed on in free agency and the draft? How many players has Sparano evaluated properly?

Hard to say but when they show such an obvious and glaring mistake in their evaluations why should we trust them moving forward? It's not Armando or any of us who wanted Sapp out. Hell for all we knew Sapp just had a bad game and was going to be better next week. But they let him go.

AND NOW, we don't even know if that decision is a correct decision or a knee jerk reaction and way to take blame away from the coaching staff?!!! If we can't trust them to make the first evaluation who's to say this evaluation and termination is correct?!

Seems to me there is no reason we should have any trust in Jeff Ireland or Tony Sparano, that is a thing of the past. Now it's really time to put up or step aside, no more excuses.

Of course bottom line it's bad decisions.

We really haven't been that relevant since the '84 season. My patience is wearing thin.

Have the Dolphins ever beaten the Texans under Kubiak?

Will the top ten defense show up or will Monday night make believe show up ?

Convinced we can score on any team, not convinced we can stop any NFL team.

Don't worry. I already told him it was AJ Feely. I never will forget that game. That was one hell of a game. AJ Feely....What a stupid move that was.

See ya

Henne was a general out there. i pray and hope he keeps it up.

Carroll is still a Phin because he is a 2nd year DB .... Sapp is a 8-year veteran and shouldnt be raped like that, everyone expects that. He's a nickel, that means he's the thrid best CB on the roster. I liked him, but cmon

Our defense played like the guy in the bathroom scene in Ace Ventura Pet Detective.

Andrew Luck

Hey Montreal! LOL yeah here's why they didn't keep Ginn, and get this, they didn't have enough room for 6 WRs on the roster! Apparently we do now. They didn't want to cut one of the bottom 53 because as you can see they're really ripping it up for us now so they got rid of Ginn instead of making him the 6th and using him for special teams and stretching the field in 4 and 5 wr sets.

The problem was they tried to force him into a #2 WR role even though the whole world could see he wasn't fit for that role. So instead of admit that mistake and keep him for what I suggested they let him go in another attempt to make it look like the players fault.

Can't wait for Tony to blame Reggie Bush for the teams lack of a running game!

"well, you know,,ahhhhh, we brought this kid over,,, and he's a really good kid that way,,,,but,,well ummm he was supposed to be our #1 back in there and he just didn't get the job done with all of that soooo we're moving on with our recently resigned last cut Kory Sheets. This kid really showed me something last training camp and he really is one of those acorns Jeff wanted to get back".

I want to give Armando credit. He gives insightful commentary on the Phins. I trust his journalism. When he starts to have a better outlook for this team then I know we will be headed in the right direction. Although he did predict we would beat New England. Wooops.

I think the main thing is simply Nolan got out schemed something fierce(excuse the dated vocabulary)but it was an old fasioned beatdown. It happens, you live and learn, hopefully you bounce back, etc, etc.

Secondly, the players weren't conditioned to execute against a game plan they were EXPECTING! This blame starts with SpOrano, all the way down, the condition coaches, Nolan and the players THEMSELVES!!!! Inexcusable on evey level.

Third, the defense wasn't executing even BEFORE the lack of conditioning became an issue. No pressure, poor/miss tackles and coverage breakdowns, all in the first half.

Ultimately though, some credit has to be given where credit is due. Bellicheat and his Ferry of a QB have to be blamed for a significant part of our defensive woes last night.

Having said all that, some changes HAVE to be made. Practice routines UPGRADED(ahem)! Scheme adjustments, etc, etc. Mostly though, as someone said earlier, this unit, from SpOrano on down to Trusnik and Spitler(if their still on the team by the time I post)need to take a good long hard look at themselves and do whatever it is that needs to be done to get it back on track.

Earlier I posted that Allen to needs to be called up and Wilson bumped ahead of Carrol(if he's still on the team by the time I post this). These guys never make the moves I expect, but I called it on Sapp earlier and hopefully it's to make room for Allen or at least someone better than Sapp or Carrol!

Nolan and co laid an egg at the worst possible moment-AGAIN! It happens, you learn from it, make adjustments and move on. With Nolan and Cox leading these guys, I see them getting it together quickly and returning to form.

I think it's a little early yet to resort to a scorched earth policy or throwing in the towel.

Work them hard this week, make the right adjustments and lets take it out on the Texans!

Now release Nolan Carroll. Then Stephen Ross should release Jeff Ireland.

...Tough loss last night. Remember the Blog Armando wrote a few weeks ago? He commented on the pace in which Tom Brady operates his offense. This was a huge factor last night, as we were constantly out of position trying to get what we thought was the proper personel in the game. Players weren't lined up half of the time. What the Patriots do better then any team right now is make the defense defend the length and width of the field. They have a hybrid 2 tight end offense that is close to imposible to stop if you fail to pressure Brady.

The 3-4 defense was designed to put pressure on the passer. If you cannot do this, it leaves your secondary open to be toarched. This is what happened last night. When your secondary is playing in zone like ours. The offensive players can easily find the holes, a good quarterback can pick these apart. This is what the gamble is in this defenive system.

We don't know what will happen in the future weeks. We need someone to step up on the opposite side of Wake(he can't do it all everyweek)..

Every good 3-4 team has linebackers who can bring that pressure. You look at what Baltimore did this offseason on their line..taking a chance on McInney, and moving Blind side to right tackle. They had to get better protecting against 1 team...The Steelers. Look what they did Week 1. They protected, and the Steeler secondary han no chance.

The 3-4 teams that have had success against Brady found ways to pressure him. You aren't going to trick him often. You have to have the personel to win some one on one battles. We failed to do this last night, and we paid the price. As poor as the secondary was, they really had no chance. Lets see if this week we can put some pressure on the quarterback. If not we are in for it again.

We have never beaten the Texans. I don't think that is going to change this weekend.

ROTFL........ah........(snif, sniff)............

.........(little tears....bigger tears)............

That would funny if it wasn't so sad :(

release ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

MIKE NOLAN
JEFF IRELAND
D.THOMAS

i always said that ted ginn and henne are worth the iNvestement but the dONCKEYS HEADED BY DYING BREED SAID NO ...................

DB IS THE HEAD MASTER OF THE DONKEYS ON THIS BLOG ....................

Hiding from reality doesn't make it go away. Hope for hopes sake is not a recipe for success. Sparano is the least competent coach in the NFL. Jeff Ireland hasn't even reached puberty yet. They don't know how to use the personal they do have and are delusional about their abilities. Sparano still doesn't seem to realize how many of these coaches are 5 steps ahead of him.

I can't see how they bring this regime back for another season. It's only a matter of a few more games before the players lose all confidence in this staff.

Sapp went to my high school, but he sucks. Good move!

TED GINN IS THE BEST RETURN MAN IN FOOTBALL AND WE GAVE HIM FOR FREE,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, IRELAND SHOULD BE WORKING IN A Garage and ARMANDO SHOULD WORK FOR A TAKE OUT CHINESE .....

Another thing that I've noticed, We have no speed on defense. Nobody to fly to the ball. Big over-sized linebackers with no speed.

I MISS TED GINN AND I WISH HARTLINE,MIKE NOLAN.IRELAND,B.COX ALL BE FIRED TOMORROW ////////////

We have never beaten the Texans. I don't think that is going to change this weekend.

Of course we haven't- they've only been around for a short while. Not to worry. That wily, crafty, veteran trickster, Nolan, will cook up a fantastic scheme guaranteed to amaze and confuse. We should also pray Wake gets a sack or three.

WE SHOULD RELEASE DANSBY ,THE 48 MILLION MAN ............ ALL THIS MONET FOR WHAT ?????????

The secondary is horrible - same problem -- we need some vets back there --this team seem to get demoralized easily -- they need some mental strength --as for the FO they don't know how to eval players -- how can you cut a player that put up number in preseason --isn't this why we have player play during that time to pick the talented one.

Armando, Take a look at the film. Benny Sapp is not a scapegoat. He was beaten by tight ends who are faster than he is and wide receivers. He is much to slow to play the nickle back.

CARLITOS............... NOLAN HAS NOW 1-8 RECORD BREAKING AT HOME............

(( COOK UP A FANTASTIC SCHEME )) ...My as ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Nolan will make every QB look like Brady. This team is a long way from anywhere.

Unsuccessful blitz package, unsuccessful pass defense, unsuccessful execution to stop no-huddle.....all this is Sapp's fault...really? Uh...let me guess, it's also his fault for Marshall dropping a TD pass, or maybe Sapp called for the FADE to Hartline on 4th and Goal???
Wake got tossed around like a ragdoll by the rookie RT. Obviously that went unnoticed all game. No adjustments made in the 2nd half.
Coaches need to ante up......figure this crap out quick and prepare for Houston.

nolan is a fruad..................

HENNE IS THE REAL THING,HIS HISTORY SAYS SO .

IRELAND SHOULD WORK IN A GARAGE.

TS SHOULD RUN A PIZZERIA THAT ALSO MAKE LOUSY SUBS.

D.THOMAS SHOULD BE RELEASED /////////////

MIKE NOLAN SHOULD RUN A LAUNDRY CHINESE SHOP...............

(( BUFFET OF KNOWLEDGE ))

Sapp was horrible last year and was beaten like a highschool player playing in the nfl. The problem I have is that Will Allen should never have been cut. Why can't these coaches see it?

So many dopes on this board.....yes, secondary wasnt good but all of the defensive issues stem from the lack of a pass rush.....ALL of them--its always, always, always the pass rush that sets the defensive tone--no DB can cover for 4, 5, 6 seconds consistently, just cant be done....any decent QB can sit back there for that length of time and pick apart a defense, and Brady does it better than anybody-pressure the QB consistently and most of these issues go away.....although thats definitely easier said than done--and enough with Ginn already, please....he'll have a moment or two like that occasionally and then you wont hear his name for 2 years--move on.

ONE THING FOR SURE:

The Houston Texan will confirm if New Endgland's offense is really that great. Or if the Dolphins defense is really that terrible.

If the defense is as terrible Sunday as they were Monday night we all will know.

Will Allen is not the same player anymore. Other teams have looked at him and passed. He is not the answer.

BRIAN,

THE COACHES SEE IT BUT IRELAND THE GARAGE MANGER LIKES SAPP B/C HE 'S CHEEP ...........

LV says Texans by 3.

So it's not secret that Sapp was horrible last night. He may not even be a very good player. But are they seriously saying he was the answer for the loss last night? He was good enough to be on the team last week and Allen was cut. No they're saying that they were wrong and are maybe inviting Allen back. Shouldn't we have kept Allen and chopped one of our spare TEs? Lot of good some of those guys ae doing. Mastrud. How about linebacker Spitler?

I'm not saying Sapp is a good player but we're paper thin in the secondary, as we are at running back. Maybe some of the problems could have been avoided last night if we'd had better depth at cornerback and weren't relying on a dehydrated Smith and Davis and a lost Carroll.

DB,

YOU WERE NO 1 SAPP FAN UNTIL THIS SUNDAY,,,,WHAT GIVES ?

Sapp, Will Allen, blah, blah, blah--is nobody listening?--ITS THE LACK OF A PASS RUSH......you want someone to blame, then blame the vaunted defensive line (you know, our "deepest unit")....along with Wake/Misi, etc--fix the pass rush and everybody looks better.

Always pretty much hated the 3-4 defense because it basically turns your DE's into non-factors.

With the 3-4 you basicall need 4 great lb's and the pass rush pressure has to come from them. Rarely in the 3-4 defense do you find great pass rushing DE's or a NT.

The 3-4 basically takes your d-linemen and make them nearly non-factors in pass rushing. That I have never fully understood about the 3-4.

ALoco,

You kmnow I never was a Sapp fan. Your pissed because I called you out last night for being pro Mike Nolan as hc this offseason. Then got busted being pro fire Mike Nolan last night!

LOL...................................................................

Every time we play the Pats somebody on the Dolphins gets fired;Bonamego last year on first game and on the second game Sparano almost got canned and on this First game Benny Sapp....cant wait to see who gets fired when we meet the Pats again this year....Maybe playing the Patriots just shows where exactly our weaknesses are.

DB.

PLEASE DON'T CONFUSE THE ISSUES;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

1- YOU WERE SAPP FAN UNTIL MONDAY,WHAT GIVES ?

2- YOU JUMPED ON HENNE'S WAGON WITH NO SHAME , WHAT GIVES ?

Is Nolan Carroll butt still on fire? Clearly, our D needs help!!

Throwing Sapp under the bus just wreaks of desperation for Ireland and Sparano. It's only the first game and they're already in damage control mode.

The Houston game hasn't sold out yet, right? I don't imagine it will. To echo Montreal: Ross better be paying attention.

DB,

THE STATE OF FL NOW HAS FAKE COACHES PLUS FAKE EDUCATION ,FAKE PEOPLE,FAKE WRITERS ...........

(( BUFFET OF KNOWLEDGE ))

After seeing they werent going to be very effective getting to Brady. Dolphins should have advised thier DE's and NT to try and keep thier hands up to try and bat balls down at the line of scrimmage.

Never know when a tipped or batted ball can land into the hands of your own defender. At the very least it disrupts the qb/reciever timing just a split second.

In the nfl a split second can equal an eternity. Its could be the difference between a wide open completion and a potential pick.

We chose to compound not getting to Brady by not advising the d-linemen to try and get thier arms in the air to potentially bat down some passes or disrupt the timing between he and his recieevers.

BB...so rite comrade. I couldn't agree more...and that was my point. The toughest thing Brady had to deal with all nite was who to throw the ball, not when! Nothing, notta, zilch, was done to pressure Brady. Should have gone all out blitz, one on one coverage. Even if they didn't sack Brady, at least knock him around, scramble, something for Finz sake!!!

agree DB, which is why I mentioned Wake and Misi (wasnt he supposed to be an athletic "pass rusher"?)......JT was also a non-factor, although at this point its hard to count on him--Odrick was supposed to have a high motor and have some pass rushing skills, so where is he?--blitz a corner or safety too, often.....risky but has to be done--bring the heat in any way possible, because QBs are gonna kill us if they have that much time to throw--Sapp and Carroll stink, I agree, but they really had no shot (and Carroll doesnt play if Vontae stays in).

DB... HOW YOU KNOW THAT THAT OUR COACHES DIDN'T DO JUST DO THAT ?

Im Out guys.

Im in no mood to decipher the ALoco gibberish tonite. I find it about as entertaining as watching whale sperm battle dog puke.

LOL...........................................................
