Agent: Benny Sapp released by Dolphins

Well, that didn't take long.

The Miami Dolphins have cut cornerback Benny Sapp after he was among the Miami cornerbacks who got burned by the New England Patriots and Tom Brady on Monday night.

Agent Andy Simms made the announcement on his twitter account earlier.

Sapp is the one who gave up the 99-yard touchdown to Wes Welker and several other completions. He also gave up a 2-yard TD to Welker that actually seemed just as troubling in that he competed better on the long TD than the quick pass in the flat TD.

By the way, Sapp wasn't alone in playing poorly against New England. Nolan Carroll similarly got burned several times. Vontae Davis got beat a handful of times before he left the game with cramps in the third quarter. Sean Smith suffered the least damage of Miami's corners but he also struggled at times against the Patriots.

The assumption here is Sapp will be replaced on the roster. The further assumption is that Will Allen will be the man replacing Sapp. Final further assumption: Look for the Allen reunion to happen by Wednesday.

This Sapp move raises several issues:

One: The NFL is a what-have-you-done-lately league and Sapp learned that.

Two: The same people that decided Sapp was good enough to be on the team last week are deciding this week he's not good enough to be on the team, which shows their initial evaluation was wrong.

Frankly, I think Sapp is still better than Carroll right now. He had a better training camp. But Carroll is younger. He's a draft pick. He has ability to grow as a player yet. And he was less expensive than Sapp.

Nolan C must be cut, or the Sapp move is window dressing.

SFL!

Sorry guys I don't think Will Allen is the answer either. He's not the same guy any more and has lost a stuff, as the fact that nobody else bothered with him when he was released. Having said that I would have rather had BOTH Allen and Sapp on the team from day one. There has to be BIG question marks on Sean Smith is there wasn't before. This gy just doesn't have it.

out too and agree--not even sure what he's talking about

Luis from PR,

"Every time we play the Pats somebody on the Dolphins gets fired;Bonamego last year on first game and on the second game Sparano almost got canned and on this First game Benny Sapp..."

It's a shame we don't play them more often.

They have a plan. An acorn...a BIG, FAT acorn. And, he's already on the team, eating, hydrating (okay mostly eating)and able to play a series without cramping.

Similar to New situational FB = Paul Soliai (that was good for a laugh)

New Nickel CB = John Jerry (can't be worse than Nolan 'Scooby Doo' Carroll). And, he'd squash Sal Alosi like a rotten Roma tomato.

(( BUFFET OF KNOWLEDGE ))

Mando...gotta convince the Herald to get the word out to the fans. Homefield advantage was embarrassing last nite. Where was the crowd noise during the game??? I'm in MN watching the game live and could hear players making the calls on tv.....I know we can do better than that!

Time to call up the eagles and make up a trade pitch for a db for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie possibly? They have a starting talent CB to give up and we need one. It wont happen without giving up the farm but would be nice.

Dick Anderson and Jake Scott wanna put on the jerseys and play again. Vern Den Herder would have put Brady on his ass. Oh for the good old days.

BB,

I agree that it begins with pressure.

However, on the 99 yarder Brady threw the ball instantly. If Sapp didn't have the tight coverage off the line, he sure should have been able to not get beat deep. He failed on both counts.

Earlier, from about the 5 he lined up on Welker. Welker did an out at the goal line and scored. Sapp never challenged any of it. Just watched Welker score an easy one.

Earlier than that, I think it was Branch on a quick out. Sapp tried to undercut the route and missed terribly. You know the rule, if you under cut the route you better be able to at least knock it down. Again, Sapp missed on all counts and Branch turned it into a big gainer.

There's more examples from this game and much more from last season. Sapp isn't the single reason for this loss, but he was a big part and he's proven over and over again, he shouldn't even be on the field.

The FO made a mistake cutting Edds and Allen before Spitler, Trusnik, Carrol and Sapp. With that being said, a famous philosopher once said: "An error doesn't become a mistake until we fail to correct it".

It's to late in regards to Edds, but me myself, I'd welcome Allen back without having seen him play in a real game in two years. Sapp and Carrol were that bad.

I can't defend the FO on a lot of fronts, but by cutting their losses in this instance their doing the right thing.

Armando went out of his way to point out that their the ones that made the mistake in the first place. Great, fine and dandy, but that's neither here nor there at this point. At least their not standing pat and hoping Sapp and Carrol suddenly morph into ballers. There's not a lot of options at this point, so I'll be OK with Allen(fingers crossed tightly)!

I don't think they cut Sapp to make him the fall guy. I think they finally realized they were fooling themselves. Sapps coverage skills have always been awful. Why they couldn't see that sooner is beyond me, was apparent last season and on his previous team.

Why does Ginn look like a playmaker now? Coaching and putting him in the right position to excell. Why were the Dolphins gassed in the second half? Coaching. It is the coaching and preparation people. Sporono is outmatched in all phases of todays game.

We shoulda traded Sapp back to Minny for Greg Camarillo, but the guy that got cut was well-named for it...wait...the Sap.

DB.........THINK DE AN DT DON'T KNOW TO GET HANDS UP/////////////??????????

THINK COACH NEVR TOLD THEM TO IN ELEMENTRY SCHOLL JEUSUS

lol and so it begins, this will be a long awful season. cut the entire secondary, its def the worst in the nfl

I like the idea of going after Assante or Dominique from Philly, they got spare DBs and they need some cap room...just sayin'.

why jax, we arent going anywhere this season anyways. dont deal picks. hopefully we lose more than kc and colts and draft luck

I don't believe this, but I think Aloco just made sense........well.....a little sense anyways.

The lineman can't just stand there and put their arms up, they loose leverage the second they do it. That's why they try to time it just right.

No offense DB, but I'm sure they, the coaches and players know about batting the ball down. Matter of fact, I know they tried in most instances.

Sparano, I don't know what your looking at on the field. Can't run the ball in on 4th and 1 yard for a TD (SAD). If anyone needs to go it should be Nolan Carroll (what happen to Wilson?) . I just don't understand what you're looking at. No leader on defense after Zach Thomas left Miami. It's going to be a long and dreadful season for Miami this year dol-fans.

No, we ain't gonna suck for luck, we're going to the playoffs and Henne will be All-Pro. No, really.

jax lose the bias. we just got destroyed at home again by a div in our div. we are a last place team in the afc east, facts are facts

I have to admit that I am very disappointed, I believe the dolphins' coaches are very stubborn when it comes to choices, they have had only a couple of good ones, but most of them have been awful. I believe Ireland has to go, if he has some sort of dignity!! He is not capable of pulling the job, he is literally stealing money from Mr. Ross!! Its easy to fire players and blame them, when is someone going to let them see that the real problem is them!!! For god's sake wake up!!!! And just for the record, a true fan is not that one who cheers every stupid move his team makes, but rather a critical one who has the right to express his feelings after decades of frustration!!!!! Come on guys !!! Winning isn't everything; it's the only thing!!!

jimmy wilson gave up the touchdown to henandez. he was later on the cut from 5 yard line.# 25 jimmy wilson.

George,

Wilson actually made it on the field last night.

Right after Sean Smith was cramping so bad he couldn't cover the receiver. It was pitiful, all Smith had to do was fall on the guy to make him down by contact. He didn't have any midol or vagasil so he just kind of gingerly reached out to touch the guy.

Freaking idiot Smith, if the receiver wouldn't have accidentally kicked him trying to scurry into the end zone it would have been a TD.

SpOrano didn't do his job again! He shouldn't have put Smith on the bench, he should have put him on his a ss with a fist pump to the grill!

I was so mad just watching, I would have if I was SpOrano!!!!

Oops, I digress, yeah....ah.....Wilson briefly got in the game. What a way to start your career-LOL.

Jeff Ireland. You're unwanted.
Tony Sparano. You're unwanted.
Mike Nolan. You're wanted, but what's your problem? Why didn't you blitz and stunt and attack Brady? There was NO pressure on that pretty boy. Your defense SUCKED.
Chad Henne. You're unwanted. You choke at the goal line, and throw uncatchable crap into coverage. Your "fade" pass needs to die and get buried 6' deep.
Offensive line. You're unwanted. You suck. Incognito. You suck. Columbo, you suck, too, you overpaid human turnstile. Reggie Bush, you need to make plays. Little white boy RB for NE kicked your butt.
Jeff Ireland. You're still unwanted.

Again, no sense of direction on defense. Miami on defense were so confused out on the field. No team leader impact player on Miami's defensive side of the football and no adjustment where made at half time. Bad coaching Sparano, sorry.

anti craig has double diahreas

shyt come out both blow holes

odinseye--I lied, still up--you are right, all good points, there is no doubt that the Pats personnel in general is much better than ours and we're not gonna beat them too often....and Sapp got beat on a number of plays where a pass rush wouldnt have mattered (he stinks), all agree--thankfully we dont play NE every week so just looking ahead, my point is that their defensive focus, IMO, needs to be on QB pressure/pass rush, which exposes all of our DBs less often, and for less time--so yeah, they're totally overmatched vs Brady/Welker, etc, but might be serviceable against most other teams if used sparingly--will still get beat, but not as often or as badly--nearly every team has weak 4th/5th DBs, filling out the roster/special teams guys, etc--ours just happened to get way too much playing time last night, against the best QB in the league who saw no pressure.....= toast.

After seeing they werent going to be very effective getting to Brady. Dolphins should have advised thier DE's and NT to try and keep thier hands up to try and bat balls down at the line of scrimmage.

We chose to compound not getting to Brady by not advising the d-linemen to try and get thier arms in the air to potentially bat down some passes or disrupt the timing between he and his recieevers.

In my unbiased opinion ALoco 1 - Dying Bird 0

I would run to if ALoco called me out in front of everyone.

Oh Snap.

Jax

How does Henne make pro bowl in a conference with Brady, Rivers, Flacco, Rothlisberger? He doesn't.

We should ALL create FAKE names to agree with us....it make us seeem so much more knowledgeable on this blog...

Right BB...I mean DB.....

Love the imagination...or lack of...

Has anyone thought that maybe AJ EDDS who was signed by the pats this week might have given them our basic schemes. Just maybe Brady looked so good cause he knew what our d does down to the

BB,

I agree without a doubt. It doesn't matter who you're playing, you have to get pressure on the quarterback or your secondary is in for a long night.

It's two separate issues. I just thought some were confusing the two. I didn't type it completely out, but you picked up my meaning. Sapp was torched on a bunch of plays where getting pressure was almost impossible because they were quick hits.

Sapp was an anomoly. He always seemed to do one of two things. Make a big play or totally whiff. To bad 90% of the time it was whiff-LOL! Him being the starting nickle was something I was worried about coming into this season. Cold harsh reality, Good Bye and Good Riddance!

Imagine sniffing out a WR screen and causing a pick six one day and getting cut the next day!

Oouch!

Miami also hurt themselves with eight penalties for sixty yards in the game. Two of them I believe on defensive off sides, the rest on the offense. You can't do that against a team like New England. Penalties fall on the shoulders of the coaches.

AJ EDDS AJ EDDS

Don't forget we got Carroll for Ginn...whatever happened to ginn anyways?

Last I heard he went to the Washington Redskins.

Ginn PR & KR TD not surprising

we traded him to the 49ers and he is doing really well atleast on ST

Sorry, Ginn is on the 49ers team.

AJ EDDS AJ edds

Devils Advocate,

When I first saw your screen name pop up I thought you were a troll, my bad.

I read all your posts and now believe your an actual poster. You seem to have the opposite view as I do on a lot of things. When it's well thought out, intelligent criticisms, I like them and believe I learn from having an open mind.

I actually enjoy discusions with people that have the opposing view. It's educational SOMETIMES-LOL!

The trolls that inhabit this place have made me paranoid and skeptical. So if I seemed harsh at first, I'm blaming it on THEM-LOL.

Long story short, I myself like the way you present your constructive criticisms(SOMETIMES-LOL). We need good posters here, keep it up!

AJ EDDS AJ EDDS.

oldenglish,

Nice observation on Edds.

I'm sure it factored in there somewhere. Though I suspect the major part was just coming out flat, ill prepared and downright out of shape!

Completely agreed odin but he would look at our defense and know based on sets who to throw to look at Brady last night he stared down where the ball wa gong cause he know the defense. It looked like it did back when the "SPYGATE". Yes Miami was weak and exploitable but you have to know where and how. We didn't show enough in preason they had an inside man

Cramps, cramps! Like women during their time of the month

If years ago the Dolphins had picked Tom Brady, he would have never won the SB and he had become a mediocre player just like any other Dolphin QB. The problem lays not on the players alone, it has laid on the the coaches since Shula left.

Give me the name of one stout offensive player that has been a part of the Dolphins since Shula left. I'll give you one: Long. A tackle. Wow.

The reason? They can't develop here. Poor administration, poor coaching, poor decisions. ALWAYS.

And please stop the madness about Ginn. He did the same here against the Jets and that's it. So? Would we go to the Super Bowl just by scoring while returning kick offs? No. It's big news because Ginn's performance happens once every three years. He's bad enough to have been forced to accept a pay cut in San Francisco. He's no player. Good for him that he enjoyed yesterday's game in SF. Good for us he's gone.

Bwaaaaahahahahahahaha

Nice work Fishtards. Got rid of Greg C for that POS. Ireland must have found out something about his mommy.

Enjoy the rest of your putrid season. At least you have the best cb tandem in the NFL. Bwaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha. Good one Vonte! You were just toying with Brady right?

Scratch and sniff Bush!!!

Maybe you guys could give the BC Lions of the CFL a run for their money.

odin (@ 12:05 AM)

Yeah...I'm SURE it had something to do Brady standing back there most of the game Flat footed....Reading their defense....and then FIRING to a wide open receiver....

It's sad......... because I got chills when ESPN showed them running out of the locker room....

It's weird.......there seems to be so many games where there is some HUGE HOLE in some aspect of their game...

I just sucks the life right out of me........I hope the rest of the season isn't like this.

Screw Global Warming...
THE BUBBLE MUST GO !!!
.
.

Wow Craig you freaking moron. Why didn't Nolan blitz Brady? That was the problem FISHTARD. They blitzed all night. It got picked up all night and Brady found receivers wide open in man with no help all night. You should go work for Sparano.

Ok FISHTARDs see ya next week. I will be here to rub your faces in it again.

Lutz, ever since Joe Robbie died and Shula and Marino were forced out

They Blitzed Brady...Yet he stood there flat-footed most of the night...

Amazing.

Ok FISHTARDs see ya next week. I will be here to rub your faces in it again.

Agree, Redsky. Sadly, I agree.

This app is like a circumcision, always getting cut off!!!

Lutz, we we've been in decline since then!

Tortured was a still birth, after he was revived we thought it fiting to name him Afterbirth.

I never did know which one was his father, but I'm sure the pedo had a retart gene.
