Bush-Thomas package on the way? Looks like it

On Sunday night I asked coach Tony Sparano if the team could find a way to get both Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush in the game during games in which Thomas is the hot hand as the running back.

The idea, obviously, is that Bush is a potentially dynamic player and it would be a waste to have him on the sideline serving as a spectator while Thomas runs the football. I figured, find a way to use him as a third-down guy. Use him as a punt returner. Use them both in the backfield and perhaps move him out to the slot -- thus forcing the defense to defend Bush with their base unit.

But coach wasn't buying any of that. He said what we saw is basically the way things are.

"Reggie‟s role is where Reggie is," Sparano answered. "Thomas was going good today, you know, and that‟s where we were. It was that kind of game. It worked out good."

Well, today things are a bit different.

First of all, Sparano just told the media that Thomas was in for 33 plays while Bush was in for 25 plays. I know, it sure didn't feel like that. But those are the stats the coach repeated.

Then he said the club actually has a package that includes both Bush and Thomas and that they used it some Sunday. The problem was, he said, that with Thomas an uncertainty because of his recent injuries, the package is admittedly small.

Well, here's the deal: You should look for that package to expand. It has to happen if Dolphins coaches saw what everyone else did. It has to happen to use as many good players as possible at the same time. Makes sense.

Yes, you can be critical of the Dolphins for not being ready with an extensive package for both players versus Houston. But, again, the team's stated plan was to use Bush 70 percent of the time and Thomas about 30 percent. They didn't foresee Thomas having a breakout day while Bush continued to struggle on his runs.

And now my opinion:

I've seen enough of the Dolphins pushing Bush as a carry-the-load guy. He's not that guy. He's never been that guy. Bush is a fine talent. He's a matchup problem for base defenses. So use him that way. Use him closer to the way the Saints did.

And let the bigger back carry the load.

Seems like a good way to maximize both. Maybe even at the same time.

I wish we could convince the Jags to trade for Henne, but they are going for the Luck bowl too.
I say hold on to henne until a team headed for the playoffs needs a QB, then you get your 3rd round pick for henne.
But realistically if someone wanted HENE for a fith, I would do it.

ug

remember what jimmy johnson pulled off with the hershel walker trade.
The next coaching staff should do the same with brandon marshal!!!

NC,

That's what I'm talking about! Well said.

Ross will break the Marino Curse by moving the team to San Diego! Then EVERYBODY concerned can be HAPPY!

Think about it........The San Diego Dolphins.

Huh? Sounds OK don't it?

Ross! Fire all of them and move MY TEAM!

This is rich....a reporter suggesting to the Coach what to do.

Can you just see the reaction a Bill Bellichek or a Tom Coughlin, or any other Super Bowl calliber coach would have to that?

Don't get me wrong...I like Armando, think he's a very good sports reporter.....but the very fact that he would think the HC needs tutoring shows the completely idiotic irony behind what has happened to this football organization.

Bottom line is that the HC is totally unqualified to guide this team, Jeff Ireland is too inexperienced to deal with it, and the owner has about as much football genetics in his blood as some alien just arriving from another solar system.

The entire conglomeration is a complete joke, and the fans are tired of it. Time for change, but who has enough sense to initiate it?

No way they go to San diego! are you drunk?
Los angeles is only place, but that will never happen.

The Jags can't be in the Luck sweepstakes. They made a major investment in Blaine Gabbert! Right now, the only guy they have that could end up being his backup is McCown. You see how that's working out.

The Jags need somebody like Henne to help Gabbert and be his backup. I think they would give up a 5th for Henne and consider themselves good at QB. Next year they start Gabbert with Henne being a veteran back up. For a 5th rounder right now they can solidify the QB position and use this years draft for other needs.

It's a win win! We get the 5th rounder, they get some depth!

No playoff team is going to give up a 3rd for Henne.

Their close and their not going to waste a high pick on a free agent journeymen back up.

It ain't happening Bro!

ROTFLMAO! Keep dreaming! Brandon ain't no Herscel Brother ;)

Henne is on pace for 4688 yards 24 tds and 16 ints

Marshall is on pace for 104 catches 1744 yards and 8 tds but we should give the guys away for 5th rd picks right.

Miami fans suck!!

I wish they could move the team now
The San Diego Dolphins would be awesome.
In California they are seriously talking about moving the Chargers back to LA the Dolphins could go to SD and Miami Natives can have the Heat and Marlins and let my Fins play for some poeple who want them there

Unfortunately I'm not drunk. Someone else said the Chargers were moving to LA. So I was "somewhat" facetiously replying that we could move to San Diego.

It is a coastal city though, so we could keep the Dolphin name ;)

I would never accuse anyone of being drunk.....

but the thought of ANY playoff-bound team trading for Chad Henne ....

well, the word delusional comes immediately to mind.

No, if we package them we get a 4th or MAYBE even a 3rd.

Why get two laters when we can get a decent mid rounder?

NC,

I'm with you Brother!

Ross could clean house and fire these stinking rotten fans by moving my beloved Dolphins to a city deserving!

Mr. Hollywood Ross! Please move MY Dolphins out to LA!!!!

PS: Also, please fire Ireland and Ross and trade Henne and Marshall BEFORE the trade deadline! PLEASE!

Odin! Great predictions! You missed one, TS is headed for another losing season!

Packaged with Marshall.....that would make it different..

Marshall is top-shelf....a Pro Bowler...

Henne will never, ever hold that title...

...two different ends of the spectrum...

Oops, meant SpOrano there instead of Ross, Heh, heh!

ug

Sparano couldn't even coach the line of a chain gang.

Marshall? A Pro Bowler? ROTFLMAO!

Well, with that logic I guess you could say Marino IS a Pro Bowler!

Most of the people running NFL teams today are not idiots. You'd be very lucky and BLESSED to get ANYTHING more than a 4th for Marshall.

The only way Marshall makes a pro bowl is if he buys a tickets like the rest of us fans-ROTFLMAO!

Marshall catches a football as though his hands were screwed on backwards, palm side out.

Odin! Great predictions! You missed one, TS is headed for another losing season!

Posted by: redsky | September 20, 2011 at 01:16 AM

Did I miss something?

What predictions Redsky?

silver

Redsky,

I've been a blind homer for far to long.

I had to realistically re-examine things as if I were the GM and my livelihood depended on it.

What moves could I make? I've been over it and over it and I keep coming back to the same conclusion.

The Dog won't hunt, time to cut bait.

SpOrano at the very least has to go. Henne has more value right now, than at any other time and it most likely won't be incresing from the way things are going.

I keep Thomas and maybe Bush and Marshall, but only the latter two because I couldn't gain any value off of them. Also Bess and Jake Long, but that's it!

On defense I would keep Wake and possibly Jimmy Wilson. The rest of them I cut use them to juke some other team out of a player or pick.

The rest of this team is COMPLETE GARBAGE! From GM all the way down to parking lot security.

I'm sure Ross will make a profit here, but he got hosed big time in buying this franchise!

Like Armando said: It's BAD!

I'm baffled.

I really mean that.

"PastaBrain Sparano..lolololol.....I luv it!!

On my last post I meant to include Pouncey too. He hasn't impressed, but it's just to early to give up on a a first round pick.

Ross has to be SICK with the deal wayne an parcells FLEECED him into!

I bet Wayne gave Parcells a kickback for his "agreement" to stay, escape clause included of course.

The "BEST EVIDENCE" of Ross's stupidity is the simple fact he bought a team like the DOLPHINS!

Okay, regarding Ross: despite the fact that he is not a football person, he doesn't seem to be a meddler.

That is good.

He just needs to clean house, HC (Sporano)..GM (Ireland)...and anyone else who won't buy into the NEW HC...and GM...whomever they might be.

The team has many talented players, but if they are not behind the coaching staff's agenda, they are doomed for the failure we are observing these lasrt 2 weeks.

And if that agenda is flawed, then a change is necessary. Mr. Ross did not earn his wealth by being an idiot without assessment qualities.

When he's sick of the failure, the manure will hit the fan.

Mando, you are the WORST. First you imply that the coach changed his thinking based on your PC questioning. THEN you use the term WILDCAT 2.0 in your headline in a dfferent story, and lead some of the dumber fans out there to conclude that they are going with the Wildcat now. You are absolutely shameless in what you will write about, and unbelievably insecure in that you need to pretend that you are influencing the coaches. AND, we all know you get wood every time the Dolphins stumble and you get a chance to do your TMZ routine. really, quit. Cover Dancing with the Stars, fruitcake.

Ross bought this team.

Paid for the biggest name out there in the team buildng business. Paid for the biggest free agent names out there two years in a row.

How dare he?

He even (STOOPIDLY) went to great lengths and spent a considerable amount of money to enhance the fan experience.

How dare he?

Unfortunately Dee was and is as incompetent as Parcells, Ireland and SpOrano.

But ah, how DARE Steven Ross do these things?

The irony of all ironies would be that he fires the whole lot. The entire FO, the fans and the state of florida.

Odin, as I said earlier, if this was a baseball manager, based on his record, TS would be gone. FO as well!

Odinseye....I'm not sure what the hell you just said.....

but respecting your right to say it , I can only make one comment...

it makes as much sense as anything Tony Sporano has said the entire past four seasons.

Mr. Ross,

If you care anything at all about your fellow Michigan Alumni Henne and Long, insist they be traded right now.

You got stuck down there with that "TEAM" and it's fan base, there's(not much-hint, hint)nothing you can do. But please don't make these two suffer along with you.

Trade them, cut them whatever it takes. Just let them get a chance...........somewhere else!

Buster,

It's simple. Ross ain't then enemy.

He's not a football guy and never claimed to be anything but a fan. He kept his end of the deal by staying out of the way of football operations.

He's opened his wallet and has done everything he can and was advised to do.

Yet he's treated with disdain and contempt.

In all seriousness, if I were him, I'd be petitioning the NFL for a land leas somewhere out in Southern California!!!!

If I were Ross I'd have just one thing to say to all you DISGRUNTLED fans in South Florida:

Buh Bye!!!!

Okay....I read you better now.

I don't think the fans regard Ross as an idiot, nor the culprit.

While it's obvious he mismanaged his search for a coach this past off-season, he has to receive points for trying.

I think the fans are frustrated at his failure in that effort. But it has to be obvious to most that another losing season will result in Sporano being fired.

It just isn't happening fast enough for a fan base which hungers for a return to league prominence.

In this, I'm sure both of us share their collective pain.

Bloody MeatSwords for our entire FO...

I don't blame Ross, it's his FO and HC, and anyone associated with Dallas!

Exactly RedSky, that's it in a nutshell

Starks, JT and Wake are very good. But what happened to all the defensive captains we drafed last year? U cut Ginn for
Nolan Caroll who is causing us to lose all our games.

We are leaving to many points on the board. The drop by Marshall, Gates pass interference, missed fg's, fumbling when we have the momentum..

It sucks losing like we do. We need order , the defense is playing like they didn't lift weights this summer. Did they drink the #6 Kool Aid? They should have been fighting for #1. Not content with #6..

Miss me yet?

Jcb, They cut ginn and his family cause he was a coward, He'll have 1 good game every three years, Look for Mr No testicular Fortitude's next big game in 2014....

Odin...welcome to the realistic side....

Still waiting on passengers...

Poizen
Craig M

Passengers Poizen and Craig M...the this is your last call for the realistic side......please check in immediatly......

Damn 4:45 came early.....

Gym time......

YEAH ARMANDO !!! This will cure all the Fish woes! Put 'em in there together! That will really strike fear into the hearts of the Pats and Jets. Even the Bills have a hearty laugh when they see Miami on the schedule now.

i still think fins can turn season around....they should use reggie on punt returns all the time...for anyone to say well we dont want to get him hurt is a ridiculous statement..so that means we are ok to let bess possibly get hurt...are the bears worried bout hester getting hurt ? one other point is we need to give gates a chance to show what he can do..fins always seem to baby our rookies way to much..we know what heartline is and no disrespect to brian but i have a funny feeling that gates if given a reall shot would be a playmaker.

FIRE TONY, 'I HAVE NO CLUE, IT'S BAFFLING" SPARANO TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems all Mr. (I'm too timid) Ross is only concerned about the celebrities in his sky boxes. I got/took a survey pre-season and most of it was about the pre-game entertainment) This is sad, sad, sad.

Can you believe they were asking what it would take to fill the stands, and for fans to come to the game,"DUH" these guys have NO CLUE!

This isn't about South Beach, it's about the SUPERBOWL, you ditz............

Yeah, can you believe Pouncey was a first round pick? Unbelievable, what's worse is that their draft shows they believe they had many pieces to the puzzle and didn't need to get other positions filled. HUH?

phins78, I can believe Pouncey was a first round pick. He was a monster on Sunday and was not the reason the team lost. He was all over the place and made all of his blocks. Was pankaking the dts and lbs all day. Commentators even pointed it out. Looks to be every bit as good as advertised. Not sure what youre talking about wit that one.

Bush is not going to get his neck broke for this team. Why the heck would anyone? Well, Zach Thomas was willing to lay it all out on the line but they got rid of him.

If Bush starts to get too many touches he will limp his sorry butt off the field like he always does.
