RoboHenne was not seen in the season opener

You remember one of the major knocks on Chad Henne last season, right? No personality. No emotion. No swag.

People called him robotic.

Robo QB.

RoboHenne.

Where was that automaton in the regular-season opener against the Patriots? Thankfully, he seemed not to attend the game.

Henne didn't look at all robotic in this game. He moved around. He had life. When he and Brandon Marshall got together on the sideline, it was Henne doing much of the talking instead of most of the listening as it was last year.

And that rushing TD on the quarterback draw? Henne wound up windmill style and spike the ball with so much emphasis, his shoulder pads popped out from under his jersey.

“I mean, we’re just excited," Henne said this week. "Just excited to get in. Again, we’re not going to talk a lot about New England. We’re trying to move on to the Texans so, you know, we just got to improve on what we did and improve on it.”

Well, maybe not all the robotic nature is gone off the field. But on the field? For this one game at least?

"He played with, I thought, a lot of passion in the past. But I think that right now the environment that’s being festered on that side of the football is one where there’s more enthusiasm … just all around," coach Tony Sparano said. "The line coach is a guy that has a lot of enthusiasm and passion but then the tight end coach comes in and now (Brian) Daboll comes in and (Jeff) Nixon.

"You got guys on that side of the ball that play, that coach with a lot of passion and I think it’s kind of rubbing off on the players."

It is obvious to anyone watching that Daboll, who is the coach primarily in Henne's ear, has brought to the player a spark he didn't have last year because, I believe, Daboll is simply younger and more enthusiastic than some of the coaches that were in Henne's ear last year.

Last year? QB coach David Lee was more worried about Henne not making mistakes than making plays. And Henne's at-times tentative, careful play showed that.

That's not how Daboll wants Henne playing.

"What I told Chad and what I tell all the guys is that as an individual you need to be yourself," Daboll said. "Don't throw your arm out if you spike it. We need it. That was a play that was designed for him and he was excited that it worked and he showed emotion. I'm glad he showed emotion.

"This is an emotional game and you need to show emotion. If you don't show emotion, sometimes you're a little too flat."

Devil, you nor me have "proof" of anything that goes on on the field and in practices with this team.

However, all the comments that sparano and company made to the media about "no mistakes", "negative plays". ect.

Plus the comments from Henning about "showing Chad the progression" and the offense timing.

Plus the public comment by Brandon Marshall preferring Thigpen that everyone blew out of proportion because, Thigpen just threw it up there, then IMMEDIATLY got benched for doing so.

Plus the unnatural play of chad Henne during almost all games especially the last 4 games can lead you to a good assumption that that was the case with Henne.

Plus, watching him this pre-season and the 1st game of the year where henne is far more loose and fluent.

Devil, I am not a blogger that comes on a pretends to know everything about everything. What I will tell you is I know A LOT about QB's, not just pretending I do, and there were far more glaring things pointing to Chad Henne playing to the structure that was not natural to him, and in football that leads to players looking more robotic, because it is not natural.

Thanks for the brilliant commentary ray.

see the usual gang of carping old lesbians is here today.

RAY,THAT IS NOT A ACREDDITED GROUP, THERES ONLY 3, GANG OF DEFEAT,DONKY BRIGADE, AND MARINATED ACORN GROUP, DONT CONFUSE THE POSTERS WITH BOGUS GROUPS.

Clearly Henne was handcuffed under Henning and the "old" Sparano.

Aloco, Who's Who, and what Gang do people belong to? I did'nt even know I Belonged in a group. Can you Expond on this?

By the way Armando, good article.

Poizen

As you say, neither of us have proof.

What you have seen has led you to your assumptions. What I have seen has led me to my assumptions, which are that Henning/Sparano were not all of Hennes problem. Accuracy and field vision, not seeing wide open receivers were recurring issues. I can more easily understand that field vision takes more time to develop, but the accuracy issues, underthrows, overthrows, frequent tipped passes, concerned me most. The fade throw I wonder if he will ever be comfortable with, and he still needs to prove he can be more on target with the long ball. Also, he often delivers the ball to a spot that makes it impossible for the receiver to get YAC, I'd like to see him lead the receivers into open areas instead of into waiting linebackers. None of those issues had anything to do with Sparano or Henning.

It's been one game. Let's see where he goes from here.

finsfan72

I don't really care where Henne was picked. He is our guy. If he is starting, then nothing else matters. While many first round QB's do better than 2nd rounders, we've seen 1st round complete busts and late round or UDFA qb's with the Super Bowl. Any QB chosen to be your starter has to play well enough to get you to the SB or you have the wrong QB.

So what happens when Henne has an awful game but the defense is stout. Does that mean all the comments flip back to Henne sucks?

You know ray, they say it takes one to know one...

I dont think that "Hemi" Henne will be the problem this yr. The Dolphins wont win because of several things, not QB.
#1 Coaching, Wont be prepared to play, as example last Monday night.
#2 Offensive Line is too weak. If u cant get 1 yd, then how good are u?
#3 Running back. Bush is not an every down back,,everyone knows that. Thomas is a semi-bust already and Johnson is a retread. So how bad was Ronnie and Ricky compared to what we have now??????
#4 The defense has got to show something. The best DB tandum in the NFL looked like Laurel and Hardy, Mut & Jeff, Kookla, Fran, & Ollie. et al. Play like u gotta pair!!!

Devil, The fade to the back corner seems like it will always be a issue, however I am sure some will be completed.

Devil, every QB overthrows and underthrows receivers. there is not one QB in the history of the NFL that never does this.

Tom Brady may be hailed as the most accurate passer in NFL history by some people. Just as an example, we got good pressure on him 5 times in that game, resulting in a sack, a throw away and him missing 3 wide open receivers, 2 over throws, 1 under. why did that happen, he had pressure.

Chad Henne has been under pressure his entire starting career, last year all of his deep passes were with a 3 to 5 step drop which require timing to get right, and the o-line was terrible. Of course he is going to be inaccurate in those situations. So are almost every other QB.

As I said, everything you are basing your opinion of Henne is him in a systemnot built for his skill set.

the only chad Henne we have seen in this new system is pre-season and our 1st game.

you seem smart and reasonable, so to pass judgement on him for the better or for the worse as this point is silly, considering it has been one game.

But the problem is, he has shown MASSIVE improvements, and that should be acknowledged.

FACTS, IT DEPENDS ON ECONOMICS, HERES THE CRITERIA. GANG OF DEFEET ARE POSTERS TRHAT ARE UNEMPLOYED (EG:FLIPPER BREED,ODENEYE.CUBEN MENICE)WHO COLLECT WELFARE,LIVE IN TRAILERS WITH CAT POOH ON FLOOR AND WAKE UP AT 2PM AND POST TILL 4AM,DONKY BRIGADE ARE PEOPLE THAT WORK 20 HOURS A WEEK(REDFSKY,DC,FIN4LIFE)THAT GETS SOME SORT OF WELFARE AND TRY TO ONLY EAT GOVERMENT CHEESE, THE 3RD GROUP IS THE MARINATED ACORN GROUP, THOSE(ROB IN OC,DEVILES ADVOCAT,FIN 72) WHO ARE EMPLOYED BUT SPND ALL DAY ON COMPUTER THUS NOT HELPING THERE COMPANY AT ALL, YOU DECIDE WHAT GROUP YOU BELONG TO(AGAIN I SAY DONKY BRIGADE) BUT YOU DECIDE WHAT GRUOP YOU BELONG TO

You know WTF is wrong with some writers. I was in here defending Mandos choice not to do a Henne story yesterday and then I go to the sent and read this from Berardino. Here's what the headline read,

"Stephen Ross Rips Defense"

And here's what Ross actually said,

"We played a great team. Our defense, which was supposed to be so good, I think allowed way too many yards, probably an NFL record. I think that could be fixed.”

Maybe there are some people out there in the media who are inserting their own personal agendas into stories.

More or less

Yes Chad looked better than last year but compared to Brady he still moves like a sloth.

Devilsadvocate every newspaper outlet, team sponsored outlet, and sports show has talked about at great length the handcuffing of Henne through not only disallowing him to make his own audibles but also in constantly beating into him the notion that he can't make a mistake and he better not take risks. Henne himself has stated he's now ALLOWED to make audibles which every QB be should be able to do from day one. Daboll has spoken on it, Sparano has spoken on it, the players including most recently Brian Hartline have spoken on it at great length.

So I'm just wondering if your saying that doesn't count because we haven't heard it with our own two ears or that you actually haven't seen any of these comments?

you seem smart and reasonable, so to pass judgement on him for the better or for the worse as this point is silly, considering it has been one game.

Posted by: Poizen | September 16, 2011 at 11:52 AM

What judgement are you referring to? I don't recall making a judgement, just giving my view of what we've seen so far. I did say his last game was encouraging so let's see where he goes from here. On the other hand, one might argue any post at all is a 'judgement'.

LMAOROTF At Aloco.

PLEASE HELP....is it better to be a troll or an internet thug?????

I came in late and think I misinterpreted the conversation.

Also I'm sick of hearing about the fade throw in that game being Hennes problem as if he should have hit it. I just heard Steve Young say that the play was a "stupid call" and that he hates the fade throw in that situation unless you're throwing to Andre Johnson or someone like a Plaxico Buress. People need to get off of Hennes sack about that one.

LOUD,DIDNT YOU HERE THE EXCUSE FACTORY CLOSSED 2 WEEKS AGO?

After making his pitch for Mitt Romney, whom he’s supporting in the Republican Presidential race, Ross was asked to list his biggest surprise of the NFL’s opening weekend. “We didn’t win, so to me it was a surprise."

LouD - sensationalism sells copy - gets people to read the article - thus another 'click' for the reporter. Some reporters will stoop to any level...

Media outlets? Advertiser sponsored businesses whose only interest is getting your attention? I give no credence whatsoever to media outlets, whether sports or news or whatever. What do any of them really know? They are nothing more than gossip queens. Are any of them INSIDE the organization getting first hand information? Nope. Aren't these the same media outlets saying the fins are rated 24 in the nfl? And do you agree with that assessment? Do you agree with the media outlets that all have the fins finishing 3rd or 4th in the division? Or do you only cite the media outlets when they support your opinion?

As far as audibles go, I agree that a pro in his 4th season should be allowed to audible, but do we know whether Flacco, Ryan, Freeman, Bradford, Stafford were ALLOWED to audible in their first season? And were they said to have handcuffs? I can see it wasn't the most advantageous environment for Henne, but to pin it all on Henning, fear, handcuffs, is a stretch.

i just wanna say that though henne made a couple of mistakes i still am encouraged by his play from training camp through the 1st game

if we can just win some key games early so we're not out of it... he should look pretty good with more games under his belt

hoping this is the year we *finally* beat the friggin texans; can't blve they've owned us this long (argh)

I JUST READ THAT MR.ROSS BOUGHT UP ALL THE UNSOLD TICKETS,MAYBE HE CAN SELL TO OTHER b-LIST CELEBS, YOU KNOW THE KIND,JEFFRY ROSS,ROSANN BARR,TOM ARNOLD,TOM GREEN, MAYBE HE SELL TO BILLY BALDWIN ORMADELYN MOORE, ACORNS MY FOOT.

Guys

All I am saying is, anyway you slice it, Henne has been slow to bring it on. If some of you want to blame it all on the coaching, fine, you are entitled to your opinion. I personally feel Henne has to take some of the blame as well. I saw Bradford and Stafford doing far better on far worse teams. I saw Cam Newton set the record for a QB in his first game on the worst team in football just last week.

From what I have seen on this blog, everyone agrees Henne looked better in game 1. So let's just let it play out. Let's see if he can consistently play better as the season progresses. Then I will chalk it up to both experience AND a better coaching staff.

You know....sure the Patriots won 38-24 but losing by two touchdowns is hardly a blow out in my opinion. If we had a running game that might have made the difference which makes me ask this....why wasn't Johnson in the game at all

First of all Devil, I have to agree with your last sentence-if your starter can't WIN you a SB, then you have the wrong starter. That's the smartest thing I've seen you post. 100% agreed there.

Also true that many 1st rd QB's are busts- I think around 50%. I don't really understand why it's so hard to predict NFL success on QB's, but it's true.

I don't agree so much that UDFA and late rd QB's make it to the SB, if you mean to say it is common. It has happened, but it is rare, and getting rarer in the last several years.

The NFL has become so QB driven, that 1st rd QB's are almost necessary to have any chance at a NFL title. 5 of the last 6 SB winning QB's were 1st rd'ers, and all but Rodgers were high 1st rd'ers (franchise types).

I think Henne can be really good under the right circumstances, but I don't think he'll ever be "franchise" like Brady or Manning. I hope we take a 1st rd QB next year regardless of how well Henne does this year.

THE 3RD GROUP IS THE MARINATED ACORN GROUP, THOSE(ROB IN OC,DEVILES ADVOCAT,FIN 72) WHO ARE EMPLOYED BUT SPND ALL DAY ON COMPUTER THUS NOT HELPING THERE COMPANY AT ALL, YOU DECIDE WHAT GROUP YOU BELONG TO(AGAIN I SAY DONKY BRIGADE) BUT YOU DECIDE WHAT GRUOP YOU BELONG TO

ALoco-

I have had it with you. Here's a new group of one- The retarded ALL CAPS, fifth grade grammar, ride the little bus to school group. Welcome to the newest group ALoco!

You are the charter member, you insignificant little piece of cat poo. We'll cat it THE LITTLE BUS GROUP for short.

I AGREE ARMANDO, IT WAS GREAT TO SEE HIM PLAY WELL IF WE WOULD JUST HAD A LITTLE D, WE COULD HAVE WON THE GAME , BUT REALLY WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE DEFENSE IN THAT GAME IT WAS THE WORST i HAVE EVER SEEN, IN ANY GAME AND ANY TEAM. HOPEFULLY THAT WAS JUST A ONE GAME BLUNDER, IF THE D, GOES BACK TO LAST YEAR'S FORM AND HENNE PLAYS WELL WE COULD HAVE A WINNING SEASON , MAYBE NOT PLAYOFFS BUT 9-7 PERHAPS, NOT HAVE A TRUE RUNNING BACK WILL HURT THIS SEASON, I LOVE WHAT REGGIE CAN DO, BUT HE WON'T BE ABLE TO GET MUCH YARDS IN THE MIDDLE.

the short bus group...........funny

Also true that many 1st rd QB's are busts- I think around 50%. I don't really understand why it's so hard to predict NFL success on QB's, but it's true.

I don't agree so much that UDFA and late rd QB's make it to the SB, if you mean to say it is common. It has happened, but it is rare, and getting rarer in the last several years.

Your first comment above is EXACTLY why (by his own admission that I heard with my own ears) they didn't risk taking Ryan. Parcells said quote "with QB's you just never know'. Also at the time, most of the pundits, if not all of them, while saw Ryan as the top QB in the draft, questioned whether is was really 1st pick overall material. So they went with the sure thing in Long, who has been a sure thing.

Your second comment, I only meant to say it happens, not that its common. At the end of the day, it no longer matters where your qb was picked, but how well he plays. I guess that is too obvious to even say.

Back later or tomorrow....

Yes it takes cajones to take a QB at the top of the draft, but the only other option is to accept a 99% chance you aren't going to the SB.

I love Jake Long, he might be the best LT in the NFL, but QB is just more important. I'd much rather have the best QB in football.

FIN FAN JUST UPSET HE NOT IN GANG OF DEFEET, SOMEDAY FINNY,YOU TOO WILL BE UNEMPLOYED POSTING 24/7,THEN YOULL REACH YOUR PATHINON AND BE WITH GANG OF DEFEAT.TILL THEN,ITS DONKY BRIGADE FOR YOU LIL MAN.

ALoco-

How was your ride on the LITTLE BUS today?

Eat me!

Everything is fixable(except you know Who), that is not question. The question is how.

I wish they had fixed it BEFORE Mon. night!

Still, LV has Houston by 3, and to my eyes, that is very bad news for us.

SOONE FIN FAN WILL SAY MEET ME AT SHELL STATION SO I CAN KICK YOUR BUTT,LOL AT BROWN DONKY FINFAN72, DOES THE 72 STAND FOR YOUR I.Q SCORE?

Fins are home dogs...not good, but based on recent history it is accurate. I hope the D shows some pride, then we'll have a chance at the upset.

Wow, Mando really giving props to Henne. I think he is married though, mando. To a girl. slow your roll.

FINNY, TELL US WHAT YUO AND ODIN ARE GONNA HAVE FOR LUNCH.(AS SOONE AS HE WAKES UP)

ALoco-

You HAVE to be kidding, questioning someone else's IQ! Seriously? ROTFLMAO......

OR IS IT YEAR YOU BORN?, MUST BE A SAD YEAR FOR YOUR PARENTS IF IT IS.

ALoco,

what are you having for lucnh?

ALoco (Charter member of the LITTLE BUS GROUP)

"YOU" is not spelled YUO. And "SOON" is not spelled SOONE.

I refer you to my post at 1:30.

STILL ROTFLMAO.....

FLIM,IAM HAVING ALASKEN SALMON WITH DILL SAUCE AND ASPERGAS.

We had absolutely no chance against NE, fins72. LV was kind in making NE only a 7 point favorite.

NEW WORD FOR MANDO, SWAG., THIS WIL GO WITH OTHER WORDS LIKE BUFFET OF KNOWLEDGE,AND ACORN, KEERP UP THE NEW WORDS MONDO.

Yes Oscar, the 7 point spread was generous, but there was some sentiment for the Fins pulling an upset.

Devil,

You asked Poizen earlier to cite a source:

Last year? QB coach David Lee was more worried about Henne not making mistakes than making plays. And Henne's at-times tentative, careful play showed that.

-Armando Salguero-

Please don't ask for more, there's plenty and from multiple "inside sources".

ALoco (charter member of the LITTLE BUS GROUP)

"Alaskan" is not spelled alasken and "Asparagus" is not spelled aspergas, you ninnie...

Still ROTFLMAO......

AHH,GOOD AFTERNOONE ODEN,WHATS ON THE AGENDA TODAY?, LET ME GUESS,GOVERMENT CHEESE IN A HOUR AND PABST BLUE RIBON BEER BY 3PM, FOLLOWED BY MOONSHENE AT 6PM?

One of the med reps that visit me told me that last Monday he was sitting besides a Dolphins Fan at the Stadium who kept saying to him, We have the best CB's in the League and they will kill those NE receivers. And my friend told him- I was the best DE in the League. What, said the guy, you don't look like a Football player! -That is my point; you watch, it won't take long for Brady to kill our DB's.

Odin-
How's it going today? Armando must've listened to you yesterday- he gave Henne a little credit today.

I think the no audible thing alone more than qualifies, it's the definition of handcuffing the QB.

Truly inexcusable on Parcells, Tony and Hennings part. You can't develop a QB in todays NFL this way.

ODEN,WHEN WILL YUO AND FINNY ANNOUNCE YOUR UPCOMING NUPTALS?, ANYWAY, I GOT TTO GO TO WORK SO YOU CAN POST TILL 3 AM,ENJOY.
