Now we understand why Larry Johnson was re-signed

Larry Johnson is signed and on the practice field today. And he is taking some repetitions as the club's No. 2 running back -- at least in the portion of practice open to the media.

Why?

Well, because rookie Daniel Thomas is injured. And he is not practicing. The Herald's Jeff Darlington is reporting Thomas yesterday tweaked a hamstring injury he had earlier this preseason and so the club felt the need to buy insurance for Monday night's regular-season opener against the Patriots.

I have to tell you, Thomas has not had a great month. He's been tentative on some runs in training camp. He was told to stop "tippy toeing" by coaches at one point. And he got hurt. And now he's hurt again.

I've heard of better starts to an NFL career.

Now, let's think outside the box for a moment. Is this terrible news?

Given Thomas's obvious need to get better acclimated to the NFL game and the large stage on which the Miami season begins -- national TV -- would you rather hand the ball to the rookie or to Johnson?

I believe the moment won't be bigger than Larry Johnson. Monday night football?

Been there. Done that.

That does not mean it is certain Thomas will be out of Monday night's game. The Johnson signing is supposed to be for insurance. If it turns out that Johnson is thrust into a contributing role behind Reggie Bush, so be it.

In my opinion, at least.

Guys that are downplaying the fact the Colts are in trouble for the playoffs this year are nuts. There's only six spots open this year and you can pretty much scratch one of last year's playoff teams off the list in Indy without Manning. This in itself you at least be cause for some celebration in Miami.

Posted by: Craig M | September 08, 2011 at 03:58 PM

that is horrid english, for starters. next, what celebration? indy has no bearing on miami's playoff hopes.

Also Peyton out 2-3mths has him coming back around the final 3-4 games. If Indy finds a way to remain in the thick of things in thier division until then. They do have a great chance to again be division champs.

Im not ready to proclaim the perrenial under-achieving Texans hier apparent.

FP3EG IS SOILED BOTTOm, HE SHOWS UP WGEN FP GOES TO LONCH, SOILED WHAT SAY YOU ABOUT THIS?

I got a "NEW" team strength to add.

We've installed this new fangled thang called the audible!

It's top secret though and we're going to sneak it out there on them thar patriots like we did that wildcat.

Oh yeah, we're on the cutting edge of inovation now!!!!

Those other teams are going to be like: Whut? Dang man, whut was that?

Hey are you jack a**es still in here? Better watch out, Armando might show up soon and send you little pusswads scurrying like the little cowards you are. I watched this whole board clear out in a matter of seconds when Armando showed up the other day. What are you scared of? Freakin babies. Say what you want and hold your little grudges but odinseye,dyingbreed,fin4life, and two theres besides me were the only ones who stayed and talked to Mando. All of these other fake names and "new" posters should be ignored by us. You all have no credibility and your opinions are comparable to that of a 10 year old child. Get lost

DB, I think they put Manning on IR. Why make a rusty Manning come back when everyone else is in mid season form. That's not very wise. I think he's done for 2011 and jot down Indy offcially as one of those teams drafting a QB in 2012 first round.

that is horrid english, for starters. next, what celebration? indy has no bearing on miami's playoff hopes.

Huh?

BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Another swing and a miss for the Dolphins FO. Its ok though its not like there were any quality FA rbs available. They are so hard to find.

BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Tony piping in crowd noise for a home game b/c no one in Florida wants to watch this disgrace. BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

Come on Tony give everyone a big fist pump. Get the fan base motivated. You can it!!!!

2 Divisions, the afc west and afc south have zero to do with Miami's chance to make the playoffs. Only in head to head where Miami beats them.

I dont see any team in the afc west or south that can unseat the Jets or Ravens for wildcard spots. For Miami to get a wildcard berth they have to go thru NY Jets or Ravens.

That's assumming again the Pats and Steelers are division champs.

I did a big poopee in Tom Brady helmet, ahh haa hee!

Dear Mr. Aloco

"FP3EG IS SOILED BOTTOm, HE SHOWS UP WGEN FP GOES TO LONCH, SOILED WHAT SAY YOU ABOUT THIS?"

I just figured I would cover his shift while he went to lunch....and he's no SoiledBottom(third person speak)( I learned from Mr. Home) or Gary Stevens for that matter.

Soiled :)

Mark in Toronto,

Are you kidding me? I would take 1 rusty Peyton Mannings over 10 sharp middle of the pack qb's.

Slowly repeat your last post to yourself then maybe you'll catch up!

LOL.....................................

"Manning was the amkeup that covered the pimple's on the pig's @ss. Man, he hasn't drafted anyone that's of any significance in forever - maybe since Dallas Clark."

Ummmmmmmm ..... POT ...... KETTLE .... BLACK

Sounds like ..... wait for it ........ THE MIAMI DOLPHINS!!!!!

Who gives you that right Loud i think you pretty quiet right now

Even a rusty Peyton Manning will be eons better than what the Colts will having replacing him!

LOL........................................................

LouD, greetings! I know your talking about the fake names & all but I have to comment on your post at 4:13. Mind you, I'm not trying to start an argument but....

Saying that you & 3-4 others were the only ones who stayed to talk to Armando makes all of you sound.....I'm trying to be nice...but....it sounds pathetic.

Better phrasing might make it sound less so. Just a suggestion.

We always look at the Don Shula days with such great admiration but the fact is that during the Dan Marino years, the Dolphins passed on drafting or acquiring the following running backs: Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, Emmitt Smith, Terrell Davis, Thurman Thomas, Ricky Watters & Curtis Martin. How many more championships would Miami have had if Marino in his prime had been paired with one of those rb’s in their prime? Also, who drafted the Jackie Shipp’s & Eric Kumerow’s year after year? All’s I’m saying is that I like this 2011 version of the Dolphins; they’re not perfect but I think there a lot better than last year and we’ll see how it goes. Go Fins!

Manning being out and the Colts faltering CAN affect our chances of a playoff berth.

Every year some teams surprise and others implode.

Nobody can accurately predict what will happen with the playoff race at this point.

The bottom line: Manning being out hurts the Colts. Does that help the Phins? Not necessarily, but it sure doesn't hurt us any either.

I like the implication!!!!

DyingBreed | September 08, 2011 at 04:17 PM

Very true and I just jumped right in but is this even a question really???

There are some real fortune tellers on here saying D. Thomas is a bust. Please, tell me the winning #'s in the MegaMillions, I need the dough. Guy hasn't stepped on the field once for a reg. season game. Hasn't had a true offseason and training camp to get comfortable. Yet you football geniuses already know he's a bust. I guess I don't have your football IQ. I'll have to wait and see (like Odrick, like Gates, like Clay).

I guess the Sun will never come out either since it's rained here 3 days straight, right?

Just like last year, Miami will need to compete with the Pitt/Balt or NE/NYJ for a wildcard.

I remember after the Pitt loss last year when I said Miami was out of the race people scoffed & laughed. When you think about it, it's common sense.

This team has to win the division to have a realistic shot at the playoffs.

i read this blog all the time post some time , but some of the ppl here are jokes of fans some have great points and opinions but other are just look to stur up problems (get a life folks) otherwise its all good

I'm starting a list of names of the regulars. I don't know about anyone else but I'm sick of reading posts from supposed new posters who seem to already have some kind of agenda and grudge against others in here or against the team. I'm interested in talking to intelligent posters who actually add something to the conversation and or start their own debates and conversations that engage the rest of us. I can't speak for anyone else but that is why I come in here. I don't come in here to talk to little boys who get their feelings hurt and spend the rest of their time stalking the person who they believe (in their warped minds) wronged them. So in order to keep it straight I am posting a list of the regulars. These are the names I will look for before I read ANY post. If the people on the list want to read the other garbage that's their prerogative but do not directly respond to me unless your name is on this list because it will fall on deaf ears, or blind eyes, whatever. :) Sorry if I missed anyone who isn't here today.

odin,

Got ripped last night, thanks for taking WAD the troll apart, that A-Hole actually bent me out of shape enough that I went to his spot with an even drunker person driving thank God nothing happened, again THANKS brudda!!!

Odin,

I dont see neither the Jets nor Raven falling out of the playoff picture. Thats why its so critical to take care of business in the afc east and not lose to teams we're not supposed to.

We need to sweep the Bills and Jets(hopefully). Then at least split with the Pats. Outside of that we need a winning record outside of the division. It will take this to eliminate the Jets from Playoff contention.

I really dont see any serious wildcard contender from either the afc west nor south. Only the division winner from those 2 divisions will make the playoffs.

Saying that you & 3-4 others were the only ones who stayed to talk to Armando makes all of you sound.....I'm trying to be nice...but....it sounds pathetic.

Better phrasing might make it sound less so. Just a suggestion.

With all due respect, what are you babbling about? If you have a point, MAKE IT.

LouD's point was OBVIOUS(esp. to the trolls)and I agree. Armando pointed it out himself. All you......ah.........all the trolls disappeared in nnano seconds, it was freaking hilarious and quite enjoyable. Even if just for the moment.

Anywhoo, I digress...........your point?

DC,

Weren't you pretty much calling Odrick a bust after he got hurt and lost for the season last year in the first game. Do you still feel that way?

Just reminding people Jets/Pats and Raven/Steelers are the wildcard competition. Some seemed to have forgotten this.

Heck in the afc south and west you severely struggle to find a team as good as the dolphins. So how can you realistically think they dethrone even last seasons wildcards Ravens Jets?

Please keep in mind this isn't a list that is trying to discriminate against any good people. I'm just trying to separate the people who are nice and cordial with one another (of course when we're not provoked by simpletons), with said simpletons who are only interested in getting themselves off by starting trouble and stalking. Use the list if you would like or don't use it, I don't care. But these are the people that I will talk to, respond to, or simply read posts written by. Period. I'm done with the BS baby crap.

However, I can see the Ravens or Jets not being in great wildcard contention should Flacco or Sanchez go down for the year. Same case should Brady or Rothlisberger go down too.

Just saying! LOL...

Lastly, we all know each others writing styles and online personalities. Impostors are obvious and will be ignored.

Actually on 2nd thought, the list of teams I named chances becoming diminished due thier starting qb's going down would still be very competive going against afc west and south teams. The Lone exception this season being the San Diego Chargers(west)! LOL...

That could be the POST OF THE BLOG.....every blog.....it ALWAYS seems to apply.....

I was never HIGH on LJ or Tiki and the rest of the has been group. The only reason were all happy they resigned him is because we all understand that Daniel Thomas was not only a reach but probably would have been there in Rd.3 as well were Mallett woud have been on the board as well. I hated Mallett at pick 15 but can`t help but think Rob in the OC is right about havng let that ship sail. Breed don`t jump on me for hating on the pick but saw DeMarco Murray who you also liked do alot more as the 3rd pick for Dallas.

DB, my pooint with Manning on IR is why would you expose Manning to injury after being out for so long. Not saying he isn't a god of a Qb, just saying if I was the Colts owner, I would just shut him down. Forcing him into action sooner makes a bad scenario worse.

LouD,

I just call them insulting names because they seem to thrive from negativity and I hate to disappoint!

LOL.................................

bangee I read your post and if you ARE new pleeeaaassseeee keep posting under the same name so we can keep track of the good! Criticisms of course are welcome and usually spark some good debates.

Odin, if you couldn't decipher the point, you are clueless. No offense. It was, as you say, OBVIOUS. All you do is try to rip on people. Thats the majority of your posts.

The point was was self explanatory. It wasn't even directed at you, why are you nitpicking?

And uh, as I was wrongly accused of by Craig the other day, alot of the so called Trolls that love you, left right around quitting time. As did I. Maybe they & I have things to do other than talk on a blog all night? Just a thought.

Please, check yourself.

Mark in Toronto,

My point is only if upon Peyton's return if thier still in the thick of the playoff race, of course you bring him back. If not, leave him on the shelf until 2012.

Fin4,

Glad to see you made it!

Don't drink and drive(if you can help it)and ESPECIALLY don't drink and RIDE with someone's that's drinking and driving-LOL!

Posted by: DyingBreed | September 08, 2011 at 04:34 PM

I don't realistically THINK IT, but I sure hope like H ell.

However, had Manning not been injured and they got the division, out of all the other AFC teams, I think the Texans would have the best chance of catching up with the wild card teams.

CraigM, I was making a qualified statement then. I was saying: AS OF NOW....

So, if someone wanted to qualify their statement with that, it would be easier to take.

Also, Odrick was a 1st-rd pick, which to me is a guy who needs to help a team year 1.

But no, I don't think Odrick is a definite bust. He looked good in the Preseason, have to see what happens in the season. If he doesn't win a starting role after say this year, then it might be a partial bust because again, you need a 1st-rd draft pick to be a star on your team (when I say star, I mean like a Starks, a definite contributor). I think Odrick showed talent enough to do it, but he has to play a full (or most of a) season, and contribute. I'm willing to give him a season or maybe 2 if he shows promise to say if he's truly a bust, 1/2 bust or just a bad pick.

Someone else (I think fin4life) made a great point the other day, saying it's not just that a team COULD HAVE picked someone else, it's also that the missed pick caused the team to make another missed pick a year later, and on down the line like a domino effect. A bad draft pick can have ripple effects that messes a team up years later.

Not saying Odrick is that, he's young, he has ability, he just needs to prove it.

But also I said that to people who were already putting him as one of our all-stars. He's definitely NOT that. You have to prove yourself to be an all-star. Like Jake Long did. He could've been Ghoulston, but he became the Legend he is now, and that's because his body of work, not when he was drafted.

LouD, thanks for putting me on the OK list.

Time to finish up some last minute ebay stuff & then head out until Monday! Enjoy the games & see you all Monday!

LouD,

dm1dolphin and GarbagePlate have a look of good things to say on here too. Not sure who else you missed but there are other. I know people have had their issues with bobby12 but I've never had a bit of problem talking to him. I would add him also. He's a homer and that rubs some guys on here the wrong way but his points are well made and he's informed.

To all the dopes on this blog talking about Daniel Thomas is a bust and Ireland is clueless can stick their heads in the toilet and flush 10 times!!! Truly dumb!

So Thomas tweaked his hammy, well I am glad they found someone to run the ball that has proven he can do it. I don't really see this team as a running team, but with LJ running big we should be okay and maybe he can teach Thomas some things so he can run better. Still looking like the dolphins are still in decent shape. We still wont know until game time, but go Fins.

like i have said im not new been posting on and off for years just never posted because i didn't like the tone of the blog lately when you don't have idiots make foolish comments with no football IQ its almost comical at some of the comments made in here by so call fans, but i agree with you on you list.
Seasoning starting ppl lets get behind our team if you don't like them now (things are pretty much set )its sink or swim from this point on. you can always root for the Jokes, Patties or laughaBills but I'm a phin4life (no pun intended)
Debate is good there is no place for idiocy
Go phins

Dyingbreed, the thing is, I have barely if ever had a problem with you being harsh to certain people. I read the posts and I can see what's going on. Certain people just don't understand how to communicate their opinions without insulting anyone and everyone they are talking to or about.

If someone has a negative opinion about Tony Sparano there is nothing wrong with that. But when they come in making fun of his disability or the sound of his voice, calling him names and all of that, that's when I fight back. That's when I get harsh. That's my coach! Good or bad he's our coach and I will stick up for him as a person until the next one comes in. I don't think you seek people out just for the hell of it. The people who get criticized mostly deserve everything they get.

But that's why I started my list. I'm going to read the names before I read any post and if they don't match I'm moving on. I'm done being sucked into this psychotic back and forth with what quite frankly, seem to be mentally unstable individuals.

I really hope I`m wrong but so far Daniel Thomas=JJ Johnson

Longshot day at Calder=good for the Fans=bad for the Handicappers(LV is not affected as they cover all bets).

LouD,

You're alright with me!!

I like that you stick up for your coach and your team. I don't ever see us having any problems on here LouD.

LouD has it right. Let's just all ignore the trolls. Don't respond to them, don't even acknowledge them. Sooner or later, they'll get bored, and move on to some other blog to annoy people.

I think it really only takes 1 post to tell if someone is legit or not.

I know fin4life but I have to do something or I'm leaving again as well. I can't take the drama and this is the only way I can think of to shield myself from it. I'm really not trying to be a d**k here, just trying to protect myself from the loonies! If I miss a good post or two from a drop by I will survive because I have the rest of you who all have great points and differing opinions to keep me entertained!

Of course, easier said than done, it's hard not to get sucked in (like I did yesterday). They just get under your skin and you snap. We can try though!

These people on this blog are so funny, but yet still so sad. How do you call anyone a bust before a season starts? How do you call a team bad before they play one game? How is it that the so called fans are already wishing they had someone else with that pick used on Thomas? Oh yeah they all know more than coaches and the FO, but they are home watching the game on TV like the rest of us.
I see this team is working on being better and no one will know until they play if they have or if they are the same team from last year. I am looking for something good, and if it doesnt happen it's not the end of the world. I will still talk trash to anyone talking bad about the team, and I will still be watching and rooting for the Phins. So say what you want, but if you were out there calling the shot could you really do better? If so maybe you need to send your resume into FO and be considered for the position. Until then let's sit back and wait and see. Go Phins enough said.

Odin, if you couldn't decipher the point, you are clueless. No offense. It was, as you say, OBVIOUS. All you do is try to rip on people. Thats the majority of your posts.

Calm down Joe, fair enough. I try to rip on the trolls, but ask any regualars, even those with differing opinions if I rip on them. There is a difference and you sound like your trying to ignore this fact, Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Anyway, the reason I butted in was because it sounded like you were caling me pitiful for staying and talking to Armando. If that's not the case, then fine, but if you re-read what you posted, with this in mind, I think you'll see the misunderstanding.

How'd I do Joe? Did I "Check Myself"?
