Patriots defeat Dolphins 38-24 in opener

The offense wasn't good enough: No running game. Not enough protection for Chad Henne. Not enough drives ending in touchdowns rather than field goals.

The defense was terrible. Really, really, bad.

Tom Brady passed for 517 yards and the Patriots rolled up a total of 622 yards. If this defense doesn't get better, and quickly, this is going to be a long season.

New England had Aaron Hernandez go for 103 yards on seven catches. Wes Welker caught eight passes for 160 yards, which included a 99-yard touchdown catch.

The Patriots used the no-huddle and it caught the Dolphins unprepared physically. Ultimately, the Patriots wore down the Miami defense.

"We practiced it a ton," coach Tony Sparano said of the no-huddle. "They made too many big plays. We said it during the week, big plays are going to kill you. Some of their scores made it look kind of easy."

One word of advice: Bring back Will Allen. Miami's corners were terrible tonight. They were either cramped. Or unable to play physical enough to stay with New England tight ends.

Yes, that was progress we saw from Chad Henne. He completed 30 of 49 passes for 416 yards. He moved the Dolphins up and down the field between the 10 yard lines. But he couldn't convert inside the 10. Twice, he threw third or fouth-down passes from inside the 2 yard line that fell incomplete. One led to a field goal. One led to the Dolphins turning the ball over on downs.

Good. Just not good enough this night.

This team is like a shiny new car with no engine in it.

Did no one else have a problem with Brandon Marshall stayin inbounds with 3 Patriots right in front of him....and our offense letting 2 minutes of clock tick off after we had the ball at midfield with 3 plus minutes left and only 2 scores down????

Am I losing my friggin mind here?????

Anybody....ANYBODY!!!!!!!

Its obvious this team was outcoached and has no resiliency. One week up one week down, and we will finish the season with a 8-8 or worse record. Bank on it.

The answer has been staring at this organization for a long time. How can you not bring an incredible mind like Don Shula and not hire him to get this organization back on track is beyond me. He's definitely passionate about seeing the dolphins return to their winning ways and his mind is a plethra of football smarts. Also, I just do not understand why Larry Johnson was not even given a slither of opportunity tonight to at least one of the opportunities at the goal line?

we have fake defense WITH FAKE DC IN MIKE NOLAN ...WE FAKE DONKEYS ,WE HAVE FEW MONKEYS @ DEFENSE ////////////////////////////

hi mike nolan stinks hes a fraud if you study his career as a defensive coach hes been average he was terrible in washington they fired him the ravens hired him there defense regressed when marvin lewis left. how about the 49ers as head coach his defense is not aggresive he doesnt make adjustments his players tackle bad he dosent preach forced fumbles and are secondary has regressed since mel phillips left why dont the dolphins dbs and lbs jam the wrs and tight ends. the jets jam those guys and have sucess vs the pats we dont why dont you think nolan when after more players this offseason and hired bryan cox to make him get a head coahing job again. and by the way karlos dansby stinks overated i taught he was a bryan cox type player hes stiff and lacks speed and cant cover and talks to much like hes good hes rich thats what he is phony. the dolphins dont have true inside linebackers dansby and burnett are finess 4-3 outside linebackers we need true inside linebackers i perdict marvin mitchell will start soon over kevin burnett and richie incognito i think is related to tony sparano he stinks but tony likes him because hes italian fron new jersey and one more thing espn completley hates the dolphins is sinkning to watch thanks.

Warfield, unfortunately not even Shula could do much with this team. they gave up and you could see it.

Demoralized in front of a national audience, at home, and they didn't even have their starting center most of the game, and still had a MNF record yards against us.

Otherwise, some say, it wasn't that bad.

CLOCK MANAGEMENT!!! CONDITIONING!!! SPECIAL TEAMS (GATES....WHERE ARE YOU....YOU'RE NO DEVIN HESTER SIR!!!) DEFENSE!!! DABOLL.....YOU HAD 5 FRIGGIN MONTHS TO PREPARE....AND YOU RUN BUSH ON 2ND AND 23?????
SEAN SMITH CAN'T COVER MY GRANDMAMA...AND SHE'S BEEN DEAD FOR 60 YEARS!!! CARROLL???CUT!!!! WAKE???? DOMINATED BY A LT PLYING RT?????!!!!!! THINK CAREY COULD SWITCH TO LT AND HANDLE THEIR BEST SPEED RUSHER????

4 TE'S BETTER THAN ANY OF OURS!!!!!

SHOULD I GO ON?????

FANTASTIC......ANOTHER YEAR OF LOOKING UP AT OUR DIVISION RIVALS!!!

The loss was not on Mike Nolan it was on the secondary and on the defensive front. NO PRESSURE all game.

I love Reggie Bush's package!

have u had enough of the worst coaching and front office in the nfl yet?
bring in Tommie Harris,Leornard Davis,Will Allen........at least try to make it look like ur trying to win
Colombo[turnstile]...r u kidding me ? who in their right mind thinks hes even a football player....same withn Caroll,Carey,
I cant believe what the've done to my once proud and mighty Dolphins, just breaks my heart

...It's a team game...Part of the game dictates that the defense stop somebody..They did not do that.Hence we were forced into a game that we did not want to get into...A track meet... Yes there were moments when the offense looked very good..Still came up short.

I dont understant how they were playing with a bakcup center and "BIG" Paul did not manhandle him. Also how did Wake get panckaked by a rook RT?

Its obvious this team was outcoached and has no resiliency. One week up one week down, and we will finish the season with a 8-8 or worse record. Bank on it.

If we are lucky. This o-line will get Henne knocked out and there's no running game!

Fergie is a skank.
"No Game Defense", I like that one.

Henne cant throw for more than 10 yrds? um realy? someone needs to read the stat sheets dude, Henne was far from the issue tonight. I knew Polite would be missed, 4th and a half yrd, thats basically a given for Polite, be prepared to see him back..Allen? possibly, but I would not count on that one yet..If the DL put more pressure on Brady our corners would not look, well maybe not as bad..I will leave it at that.

Aloco....your monkey post was hilarious...what did it mean???

Dansby and Burnett were also missing tackles all over the field. Unbelieavable for top talent LBs. Face it 3-4 schemes are a thing aof the past. Time to blow it up and go to a 4-3.

5 wins this year- and thats being generous

DD.

WGHAT HAPPENS NOW WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND THAT PATS WON ?

You said....we fake donkeys...we have few monkeys on defense...

what does it mean man!!!!!

Oder, How much Alcohol did you drink tyonight?

Apparently not as much as you had "TYNIGHT".

I'm just kidding, I had a bunch, but unlike you, I can hold my own Mr. ALoco Menace ;)

BTW, did ya hear how Henne did tonight? STFU ;)

The trainer needs to be beaten, why all the cramps. The Defense needs to play. Henne is NOT the problem, He is very good. Play calling needs alittle work. Defense needs to step up to the plate. 611 most in Dolphins History.

The Dolphins have a QB Henne can play. They need to improve the running game. They should be able to run the ball in from the one yard line. On defense Davis and Smith need to stay healthy and on the field. Brady picked on Nolan Carroll. The Dolphins had no chance to mount a pass rush while Brady was picking on Carroll.

WHAT

You guys are funny! Last year it was Mike Nolan for HC, this year it's FIRE MIKE NOLAN BUM!!!

Henne was not the issue tonight, he played very well for him. Issues were, secondary, D-line and poor tackeling.

You guys need to trade Aloco to the Jets with the rest of the package lovers!

U 'fans' are hilarious...you love talking out of both sides of your necks...One minute U say "the run game was nonexistent" then U say "the O-Line was horrible"..well, geniuses, if THE O-LINE is bad, THE RUNNING GAME WILL BE NON-EXISTENT!!!! It all starts in the trenches, and thats where we got beat on both sides of the ball.I was encouraged by what I saw in Henne, and Bush finished with 20 touches for 94 yards total, so both of them get passes from me. I do agree that Polite and Allen should never have been cut, and the personnel dept. failed by not taking interest in some players that could have contributed, but whats done is done, Houston is next, and they own Miami, so lets hope the team is up for some redemption. More Pats fans were in the stadium than Phins fans, that is the most disgusting thing of all...

Oh well. There's always next season. Maybe one day you guys will win another playoff game?

Well, it really should be "FIRE STEPHAN ROSS IDIOT" but he kind of owns the team so... uh... "FIRE MIKE NOLAN!" YEAH THAT'S IT!

DANSBY...........MY FOOT.......48 MILLION FOR 4 YEARS .............................. MIKE NOLAN,MY FOOT............1.4 MILLION AYEAR FOR 1-8 @ HOME.................................IT'S A JOKE .

Maybe it wasn't Henning after all. Think about it.

hi i agree i hate the 3-4 defense its a 80s defensive scheme from parcells the defense does to much thinking they dont react quickly when we stoped brady we used the 4-3 its easier to attack the qb and running game.

Nolan was not the issue tonight. He cant help the fact that a top D-line could not get pressure on the pats. Effort overall by Phins D was pathetic.

What makes the NE Patriots so good?
is it The QB Tom Brady? is coach Belechk a genius? is it their philosophy?
How is it that they can get other teams castaways & make them playmakers? How is it that year after year they make good draft choices?
Maybe its all these things. Unfortunately Miami is in the same AFC east conference as NE. I think they are even better then years past, even...superior! The way they play tonight & embarrassed the miami defense was UNREAL! The only way the dolphins or any other team can advance is for Tom Brady & the whole organization is to retire!

The one who cut Lousaka Polite and hired Bennie Sapp, just as the conditioning caches are to blame. How on earth, HOW ON EARTH do you let go a player whose converting average in short yardage situations the last two seasons is over 98%???

Twice on the one yard line and unable to get 14 points, precisely the difference.

Cut Sapp now!! The Pats had gotten the same yardage and TD's with me playing. I'd been burned as many times as Sapp. HOWEVER, I'll take the half of what Sapp is making!! I have the leverage!

Maybe it wasn't Henning after all. Think about it.

First it's Henne, now it's Nolan. Common man, it just sucks!!!
Suck for Luck.

You get what you pay for. from the ownership down. This group can only think one way or the other, they don't understand what HYBRID means and is is absolutely essential in the modern NFL. Whatever made them think it meant having no fullback is bewildering.

nolan calls blitzes at the wrong time. give me george hill or jim bates anyday.

Man, the Henne haters are retarded.

I predicted 38-16 Patriots. I was close.

Wake up Dolphin fans.

Don't get fooled again.

It will get ugly when we get blown out by Houston on Sunday.

Henne is not the an Elite QB and never will beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe it wasn't Henning after all. Think about it

3-4 defenses requires elite players to work. And its build to stop the run not the pass. To stop NE you need to stop the pass. 511 yards is ridiculous.

Oder, What say you about that vaunted Miami defense?

Posted by: Just the facts. | September 12, 2011 at 11:20 PM

Henne! Henne! Henne! Henne!

Henne was ALL Miami had tonight. Them two Michigan QB's set an NFL record tonight. You know, the one you said would never start another game in Miami.

Get used to it sweet cheeks-ROTFLMAO!!!!

how many excuses can we give!!!!
We suck, and need some luck.

An the ignorance of Armando's fan base shines on-LOL!

These same idiots that are crying right now are thesame ones that cried for Palmer, Collins, Orton and wiat for it....wait for it......Vince Young.

Priceless, by far the most ignorant blog I've ever had the pleasure to laugh at.

If stupidity was the prize, Armando's Dolphins In Depth wins hands down.

ROTFLMAO ;)

The Henne haters are retarded?
What the F..... has Henne done for us? Maybe he might have F.....you.

I have never read so many F'n whining comments -- in week one nor less!!!
WTF is wrong with you losers? The D sucked -- duh. They're better and will play better, no doubt. Even with sucking that bad the Fins were goin toe to toe with the Pats. Punch it in on 4th and half a yard and we're down by 7 with a ton of time left. Gotta have that one because it turned into a 14 pt swing when Welker went 99 (UGH!) That and settling for a FG when we got to the 2 (?). That's an 18 point swing.
OK, the sky is not falling. Henne looked poised and confident. Not only did he throw for 400 + he ran for prob 50 or so. The guy looked good tonight. Anyone who says otherwise is either a liar or just stupid. Fix the problems and move forward. But all of you haters, STFU huh. No one needs your negativity.

Henne is not an A-list QB, but he has improved and he looks way better than last season. Regardless, no QB should be asked to overcome a 38 point spank.

Wish we i had your optimism NewEnglandFinFan, but this scene is all too familiar to me.

Not yet.... but get him an o-line and a running game and he might become one!

I can count on the Phins to add dubious records on National TV at home... 99 yard TD, 518 passing yards allowed, letting Danny Woodhead run circles around them...happens more often than not, but I will 4ever be a DolFan!!!! I have faith Nolan will right the ship. My issue is the o-line play. U gotta open up holes 4 the RBs and protect the QB better. Henne did a great job considering he stayed under duress all night while Brady was able to, prep, cook, and serve 7 course meals before throwing the ball...The trench warriors must improve in order for this thing to get better. But with fans like you hater types, I dont see that happening as soon as I would like

Sounds like all you want is Henne up your A....!
Name me one thing that Henne has done to make Dolphins proud?

Oh for heaven's sake stop with the Will Allen stuff. This defense needs way more than Will Allen to fix it. Geez.

Yes Tony, its the fans fault. Right. Gotcha. What a stupid fool you are. The team stinks. The coaches stink. 1-8 at home, need more proof?
