So Reggie Bush said after Sunday's game that the Dolphins "stink."
Then Yeremiah Bell told examiner.com that, in part, Bush stinks for saying that.
And then today the Dolphins public relations machine tried to patch that crack in the locker room because, of course, 53 disparate men always agree on everything and it doesn't matter the entire NFL knows the whole franchise is broken anyway. Hmmmm. How to do this?
Ah, yes. After much discussion about stuff that doesn't matter one iota, the Dolphins decided to blame the true villian in all this -- the media. Yeah, that's the ticket. The big bad intimidating reporters are clearly trying to make Miami players say things against one another.
So after a long conversation with the PR dept., Bell walked back his comments and accused the media of taking Bush's words out of context. Bush, obviously not completely lobotomized by the Dolphins yet, disagreed initially even after a similar meeting with Dolphins PR. It is, he said, hard to take "we stink" out of context.
"What else would I mean," he asked.
But finally the men in the white coats apparently got to Bush. Late Thursday night he was fully on board with blaming the media for the misunderstanding!
"When your [sic] 0-6 it's easy for the media to create something out of nothing," Bush tweeted to his two million twitter followers. "Miami Dolphins are sticking together and believe in one another.
Then he tweeted:
"Because without each other we know that none of this is possible. We hold each other accountable and expect greatness from our teammates
Then he tweeted:
"With that said we are focused on one game this week. The NY Giants. Enough said..."
[Update: Meanwhile, Brandon Marshall tweeted this lovely thought last night -- To Media: When we win Sunday please don't say the Giants didn't take us serious."]
Whatever, dude.
What a total load.
Note to the Dolphins: The media isn't trying to "create" anything. You guys do it so well, no media member short of the most accomplished fiction writer could ever invent poop like 0-6, or losing to Tim Tebow on Gator Day, or not being able to ever stop a quarterback draw.
The media didn't force Brandon Marshall to say he was going to get thrown out of the Jets game in the second quarter. The media didn't invent the fact Marshall ripped the game plan for that Jets game because it didn't target him enough even though he was targetted a team-high 13 times.
The media also hasn't scored any points against the Dolphins this year or stopped them from scoring. That was Wes Welker going 99 yards for a touchdown, not The Miami Herald. No one holding a microphone has kept the Miami defensive backfield from failing to intercept passes at all-time frachise low rates.
The media did recognize right tackle Marc Colombo was a turnstile last year in Dallas and brought that up to coach Tony Sparano in the preseason. The coach would have none of that idea, saying he watched the tape of Colombo thus suggesting the media didn't know anything.
Um, well, Colombo is a turnstile in Miami. And, by the way, on twitter he follows practically every media member that covers the Dolphin but refused every interview request before even one disparaging word about him was written locally. (Strange bird, this one.)
The media did ask in print and on radio why not bring in a truly accomplished quarterback to compete with Chad Henne, with the loser of the competition becoming the backup. But noooo. The Dolphins went with journeyman Matt Moore. And now he's you're starter.
And the team has practically no chance.
The media continues to wonder why the Dolphins don't upgrade at tight end. Meanwhile, the Dolphins continue to wonder why they are so awful at scoring touchdowns in the red zone. Hint: Tight ends are among the most effective red zone weapons.
The media didn't get on that plane to go interview Jim Harbaugh. The media didn't cut Erik Walden so he could go to Green Bay and become a starter. The media didn't draft Pat White or Patrick Turner. The media didn't sign Ernest Wilford or Jake Grove. The media didn't fail to draft a quarterback in the first round every year since 1983. The media didn't guarantee Bill Parcells' his money even if he walked away. The media has not kept the Dolphins winless at home for almost an entire calendar year.
The media -- along with everyone else in the whole stadium -- knows the quarterback draw is always coming. The media didn't pass on Jimmy Graham. Or draft John Jerry.
If the Dolphins want to maximize their time, they should stop trying to keep the media at a distance and instead think about stiff-arming potential tacklers. If the Dolphins want to see the enemy they should turn their gaze away from the media.
And look in the mirror instead.

How's the view atop your high horse, Mondo?

Armando,
I think you missed the mark on this one. The media (and Vegas) makes the fins the underdog every week. How in the world do you expect them to overcome that?
The Dolphins are a fragile bunch, if the media tells them they will lose, they will. And then the whole time Sparano is telling them how good they are.
Recipe for disaster.
Posted by: DevilsAdvocate | October 28, 2011 at 07:37 AM
Mando,
You're on point today bro! Miami has made themselves this joke not the media.
And to add to that all this "Suck for Luck" wouldn't exist if Miami were actually winning games. So Fasano shut your mouth and don't worry about what fans are saying. Worry about why you are an average player charading as an NFL starting TE.

GOOD FOR YOU ARMANDO AND YOUR RIGHT , NOT SURE WHO THE JIMMY GRAHAM GUY IS BUT I AM NOT FOLLOWING FOOTBALL AS CLOSELY THIS YEAR BECAUSE THE DOLPHINS ARE SO BAD. I WAS NEVER ONE TO BELIEF THAT CRAP ABOUT TAKING MY WORDS OUT OF CONTEXT ANYWAYS, YOU CAN APOLOGIZE FOR WHAT YOU SAY BUT YOU CAN'T BLAME SOMEONE ELSE FOR WHAT COMES OUT OF YOUR MOUTH, AND REGGIE SHOULD HAVE JUST SAID HE WAS SORRY FOR WHATEVER REASON , BUT YOU KNOW WHAT HE IS RIGHT THEY DO STINK AND SUCK AND THE COACH WANTS OUT BUT DOESN'T WANT TO GIVE UP HIS MONEY BECAUSE HE WILL NEVER BE PAID LIKE THIS AGAIN, YOUR COWARD TONY JUST QUIT

And by the way today on SI.com
Karlos Dansby came in second to Bart Scott for most underachieving Middle LB. Personally I think Scott is a much better player!

People, every day or every other day we complain about the 3 stooges in command. If they don't read this blog, I am sure a family member does or some assistant under salary to get a guage on what the public is feeling.
May question is, if they know how disheartened we are as fans, why aren't they doing something about it?
Help... Someone explain, please...
Posted by: Rey Rey | October 28, 2011 at 07:49 AM
Sad but true..... However I thought John Jerry has looked pretty good this year when called upon.
Posted by: Shakti | October 28, 2011 at 07:57 AM
Way to go Armando !!!
This theam is a total joke from the top to the bottom and now they are blaming the media.
I hope they blame me to...that would be cool.
Because you know that its my fault that Brandon dropped 5 td passes and a few other key first down passes. I mean they have to blame someone. Hey they could blame tv or maybe their 3rd grade teachers to.
What a total joke this team is...they are really testing my loyalty this year.
Great writing ... keep it up, they deserve it !!
Posted by: njdolfan | October 28, 2011 at 08:01 AM
Columbo is not a turnstile. Turnstliles channel you into a lane, offer a little resistance and force you to slow down if you don't want to get whacked in the family jewels. Columbo does none of the above.

Love him or hate him Armando is right. The man probably has one of the worst jobs in sports journalism right now. He has to cover this dumpster fire of a football franchise.

Posted by: Pete G | October 28, 2011 at 08:19 AM
Well said Mando. But this is the mentality of every team that loses and when all parties are about to get fired. This is circle the wagon time and no one blames themself, they blame every external force possible. When this bunch of losers goes 0-16, to the delight of the fans, watch these guys start to blame the fans for lack of support. That is just human nature to not take responsibility for your own actions. But these guys had better watch out because they are basically on a 10 game job interview and no other team or the next regime wants guys that point fingers and give up.

Morning Sunshines!
Because no one wants to take Mando's word for it, I'll be the eyes/ears for the fan base on this blog and get the lowdown on the situation.
I will (at my own expense) attend the game Sunday, and let EVERYONE here know what I see. If I see Mando distracting Yeremiah Bell so he can't intercept a pass, I'll let you know. If I see Barry Jackson tie Colombo's laces together so he falls on his arse and causes a sack, I'll let you know. If I see Cote flashing a laser light into Marshall's eyes while he's trying to catch a TD pass, I'll let you know.
My prediction is I'll see none of that. I'll just see the sorriest bunch of players and Coaches this side of THE SUN! It will just be a shabby game plan, executed to perfect imperfection, with a side of Charmin softness.
I really wish this team could be as nasty on the field as they are in the locker room.
PAPER TIGERS!!!
I said it yesterday, I'll say it again:
IF THIS TEAM PLAYED THEMSELVES, THEY WOULD LOSE!
Posted by: DC Dolfan | October 28, 2011 at 08:32 AM
NICE JOB ARMANDO! I like that your not on the TS lobotomy train anymore!
Tell it like it is! Its all down hill from here for the team as a whole. The cracks are forming and growing bigger by the moment.
If Ross has any sense's, he would fire Sparano after the Giants game and show the players he means business.
Posted by: dbmfins | October 28, 2011 at 08:37 AM
Oh, and I don't mean to pile on, but if you South Floridians aren't the SORRIEST collection of teams ANYWHERE in the country, I don't know who is.
REALLY University of Miami? REALLY?
Losing to MY UVA CAVALIERS??? LOLOLOLOL
YOU SUCK!
That's what I'm talking about. Our motto is:
We're smarter than you, AND we'll kick your arse on the gridiron.
LOL! Just wanted to rub that in. Oh, and by the way, for all the guys saying we should hire Al Golden, to do what, continue the wonderful tradition of Tony Sparano? If you want a REAL WINNING TEAM, you would hire MIKE LONDON, Head Coach of the WORLD FAMOUS University of VIRGINIA!
Hurricane shmuricane. That's right!

Posted by: judy finkle | October 28, 2011 at 08:48 AM
LOL, I like Jacory. And you're right, he does have him penciled. Since his first-round choice is a RG, or a Fullback. Actually, he wants to trade the 1st 3 round picks for 6 6th-round picks, because he really sees a lot of talent deeper in the Draft.
Only thing Ireland will be picking next April is his nose. Or the weeds in his lawn. Or the tie he's gonna wear out on a date with Dez Bryant's mom.

All this nonsense between players, coaches and media just reinforces how much of a JOKE this entire organization has become. It's great. It will lead to the Crash & Burn year that this teams. We did it in 2007 but apparently that wasn't enough. We need one more horrific collapse to really hit rock bottom.
Then we rebuild:
We can argue who we should turn to but, Really? Wouldn't we all be happier with Chucky, Fisher or Cowher at the helm? Does it really matter who comes to save us? Just as long as they come?
Does it really matter which QB we select? If we end up with the first, second, third or fourth pick. We will pick the best QB available and that will be best for the team.
Lets stop all this nonsense and worrying. We konw how this season ends. We know we are looking at a complete overhaul. That is good news!!
Lets just sit back and watch the sh-- show called the 2011 Dolphins. Its the greatest comedy on earth!!!
Posted by: JPAO | October 28, 2011 at 08:52 AM
2nd round:
Sean Spence, Lb, UM
It would be like Ireland and Sparano to pick an undersized linebacker and bring him in to play.....linebacker instead of converting him to safety, where he would play on any other team...plus draft him too early.
I'm keeping an eye on Vontaze Buttfu(k (turrets) from Arizona St. Mean streak and nasty.

I'm pitching an idea to Ross next week, wish me luck.
It's for a new viral ad (maybe the Herald can host me).
The premise is you just see a black screen, and hear lots of laughing. Soft at first, but gets louder and louder.
Finally, when it's at peak volume, the text will scroll on the screen:
Miami Dolphins football, it'll make you giggle.
What do you think?
Posted by: DC Dolfan | October 28, 2011 at 09:02 AM

When I was watching the U play Virginia last night one of the commentators said the defensive coordinator from Virginia has a goal for his defense:
To get five tackles for a loss in each game. I don't know if they achieved that goal last night but, up until last night, they had averaged six per game. Now, that's coaching.
Now, the defensive goal/game with this team is what? Any thoughts?
Posted by: judy finkle | October 28, 2011 at 09:06 AM

I've been a long time Dolphins fan, and this Owner, Organization, Coach, and Players, make it very, very difficult to continue to be a true fan. I've been there through thick and thin since I was knee hi to a grasshopper, I'm now 45, living in Ohio, and I bought my kid (8) a Bengals Jersey; does that say anything? In Green Bay, they pass season tickets to future generations; because through it all they believe it what the GB organization is selling.
By the way, I fault the Owners and org for the lack of on field success more than I do the players. I know that The owners and org don block and tackle, but they draft Pat White (?) and let Larry Izzo, Wes Welker, and others walk.
Anyway, if the Dolphins Brass think that I'm going to bit when they bring in Payton Manning, they are CRAZY. Instead, if you bring in Manning, because the Colts "go in a different direction", I'll take every last piece of Dolphins Paraphernalia (Shirt, Hat, Mini helmet, and other stuff) bag in up and send it to Dolphin HQ to the attn of Mr. Ross!! The only thing I won't throw away is my Larry Csonka Jersey. Thant's my cnstant reminder of how GREAT this franchise USED TO BE. In short, bring in Manning and I'm done, PERIOD. Now I know that this Organization could care less about what I think or feel, or if I remain a fan, Like I said I'm 45. However, I know, that I'm the bridge to future fans.
If the Colts, decide to go in a different direction from Manning, that's a glaring red signal that he's DONE. Remember that Marino has a neck problem, which he never recovered from and as a result didn't have his typical "Zip" on the ball. Remember all the pick 6's on the out routes late in his career.
I don't know if Luck will be as good as they he will be, but getting Manning for a short term fix (3 yrs at most), it will set the franchise back another 10 yrs. I know that Manning will get murdered behind this O-line....actually I wouldn't mind seeing Manning take a few good hits! Speaking of good hit, when is Dansby going to hit anyone? The hardest hitter on Defense is V. Davis.

Here is the facts: Dolphins are 0-6. Tony Sparano is lame duck coach. Matt Moore is a journey QB. Hope for this season is lost. That is true. But, here is another fact. The media always loves to jump on the bandwagon of a winner and they always love to pick at losers until the scab is picked wide open. And, as long as the team is losing players cannot avoid being picked at by the media. It is inevitable. I don't so much as reader and as a fan...but as a player who is giving 100% (and, Bell and Bush meet that criteria) I can certainly understand the sensitivity.
