Karlos Dansby got the game ball today after he had a sack, an interception and led the Dolphins with 10 tackles in their 20-9 victory over Washington.
Afterward, Dansby was feeling pretty good about himself. He was feeling so good, he said he's the best linebacker in the NFL.
Wow.
So I asked him, better than Baltimore's Ray Lewis?
"I'm better than everybody," he answered without pause, prompting me to write a column about it in today's Miami Herald. "Everybody. Period. Point blank. I just haven't had the recognition, man. I'm more versatile than everybody. Period. Pont blank. I'm more versatile than everybody. Hands down. I can do it all. I can take the tight end. I can check the running backs. You don't have to put me in one hole, I aint no hole guy. You can play man-to-man all over the field, man. I can do it all. I can do it all. I can hit guys. I can drop in coverage. I can blitz the quarterback. I got, what, 28 sacks, almost 30 sacks.
"I'm just trying to get my pick game up. I'm trying to get into the 20-20 [interceptions-sacks] club."
Dansby believes he has logical reasons why he thinks he's the best right now.
"I''ve played every position there is at linebacker," he said. "I played sam my first two or three years. I've played the weakside, the Mo. I've played the Will and now I'm playing the Mike. I can do it all. Nobody else can say they've done that and played at a high level. Nobody else. Everybody plays weakside or play under at the Mike. I've done it all. I can press the guard. I watch film."
Brian Urlacher?
"Aging," Dansby said. "He's aging fast, man. He's a great linebacker, but he's aging fast. I respect all the linebckers. But I'm better. That's just how I feel."
I wish I had asked him about Patrick Willis, but at some point, everybody has to mean everybody, in his mind.
If you missed it yesterday, I want to share with you my column that appeared in Sunday's paper about Brandon Marshall. I guarantee you'll come out of that read seeing a different side of Marshall.

Moore sucks in the red zone just like Henne. And I dont care how many games we win or lose, I just want a franchise QB.
Idk if Barkley is the answer. Even Jacory Harris, the qb from Houston and Boise is rated higher than him. NCAA qb rating has Barkley around #20. He's definately no RG3.

Dansby's got good reason to boast. The defense is 8th in the league in points allowed after today and is playing the way people expected going into the season.

So we are now tied with St. Louis, Minn (they're not going to beat GB tomorrow), and Carolina for the no. 2 draft pick. Of the three, only Minn. may be in the market for a qb.
Congrats to Miami on their second win. I don't want to take anything away from their victory, but the real test will come next week when they play against a winning (but falling) team in Buffalo.
P.S> Somebody has got to beat GB. They're 8-0!
P.S.2> Matt Moore has won more games this season than Henne. Just a fact.

That's a good one. Best LB in the NFL. Sorry but I would rather have an older Ray Lewis or Brian Urlacher than a young Karlos Dansby. You can dream of being the best and maybe feel you are the best, but my friend the best show it every week, not during week 10.

jcb, because you just never know how any of them will work out in the pro's. numerous failed 1st round picks have proved that time and again.

BUFFET OF KNOWLEDGE ...................
Posted by: ALoco | November 14, 2011 at 08:46 AM
This team is SO hard to predict.
So, in our continuing saga of finding out who we really are, it's now evident we're clearly NOT the worst team in the league. We're in the bottom 1/3, but only time will tell where in that mix we fit.
There's lots of reasons that you can point to why we're having more success and the players are executing better, and I KNOW people are going to talk about keeping Ireland and even Sparano. But I disagree. If anything, this turnaround now shows how poor the coaching is on the team (or else why couldn't they get the team going sooner?). And this isn't a one year phenomenon (so don't blame the lockout). This is how Sparano's teams have fared early in the Season pretty much every year he's been HC.
We still need more talent. We still need a better HC. We still need a QB. 2 wins vs. suspect opponents hasn't changed any of those needs.
Posted by: DC Dolfan | November 14, 2011 at 08:46 AM
This type of self-hyping usually ends badly. I wish these guys would just go win a game and act like they've won before, and move on. If you just want to move on from a loss, you should want to move on from a win. Buffalo is a good team, and angry right now. We'll need to play pretty flawlessly to beat them.

We can't even beat a team in our division. No time to celebrate.

By Dansby's account...FASANO IS the best TE in the NFL.....PERIOD....
He had his best game by far (if the qualifier is highlight catches).....and overall proved himself worthy of a roster spot with more consistency....
ANTHONY FASONO.....BEST TE EVER......

Berger is still here???
DC, we will see how well we have progressed next week. Kansas City and Washington are bottom third teams like we are. Buffalo although not great is a middle of the pack team and Fred Jackson and Steve Johnson are more than capable of providing a test.

Sparano deserves a 10 year contract extension for what he has done the past two weeks. Any other team would have folded up shop but these guys play like they are in the playoffs every week. Jeff Ireland deserves a 25 year contract for the Matt Moore/Reggie Bush pickups. They have really worked out the past two weeks as well.

DC @ 8:46,
Unlike some Dolphin fans who may be celebrating the fact this team has won two in a row and have some ill-conceived notion that this team could possibly win out and make the playoffs you have a pretty good handle on things.
The team is only 2-7. Matt Moore played a heck of a game against Kansas City but did nothing against Washington. 20-29 passing doesn't even begin to tell the story. Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas had poor performances rushing the ball against one of the league's worst rushing defenses. In a previous post I had stated that, based on how good the Redskins' defense was against the run and the pass and how good Miami's offense was at running and passing, we should see Miami rushing the ball against the Redskins with some success.
However, the rusing performance was pitiful. Miami seems to be catching teams at the right time. The Bills are now on the slide, losing their last two, and now we have to wonder if there is a possibility of this team pulling out another victory.
In any cas, the two victories this season point to nothing as to how good this team is; only to how bad the two opponents they played were at the time they played them.

Lest we forget this team was 7-9 the last two seasons; with Parcells on the throne.

ALoco, the litmus test.
And yes I went to school. York university. I believe Craig M is also an alumnus.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | November 14, 2011 at 09:35 AM
The Dolphins got the best set of CB according to Davis, the WR according to Marshall and now they have the best LB.I can imagine if they get one more win they will proclaim to have the best coach, or the best GM maybe the best owner somebody stop me, to declare oneself to be the best at anything when your team is 2-7 is callow and moronic.
Posted by: HUGH JASSOL | November 14, 2011 at 09:39 AM
The real test will be againt the Cowboys in big "D"...If the Dolphins win that game, stop Whitten (sp?) and score more than 17 points against that defense, I'll jump on the bandwagon. I won't get too excited with wins over a crappy KC team and an average Washington roster...

I agree with Dansby. Hes the best linebacker on the Dolphin defense. Period. Dansby is very good and I do believe hes better the Ray Lewis. And better then Willis, because Dansby can do more then Willis, when he wants to. Didnt watch yesterday cause I knew how this was going to go. The Dolphins won despite themselfs. Dolphin offense was terrible.

ALoco, what's up with you this morning? Bad case of hemorroids or something? The Cowboys aren't crappy, it will be a good test for the Dolphins...
a) Covering one of the best tight ends in the game.
b) Facing a pretty good defense.
That's all I meant...
