Koa Misi shows up! (Yeah, not so much on the field)

Koa Misi made a rare appearance in the Dolphins locker room on Monday. He showed his typically friendly disposition although it seemed he needed a haircut.

But I digress.

The point is Koa Misi was visible in the locker room. Now, he needs to show up with more frequency on game days.

The truth about the Dolphins 2010 second-round draft pick is that he has been something of an enigma this season. He wasn't exactly an impact player last year but this year he's been less productive than he was as a rookie.

Misi has 25 tackles through 11 games. He has one sack. He has one forced fumble.

That's it.

Last year Misi contibuted more. He averaged 2.56 tackles per game last year compared to 2.25 per game this year. He had 4.5 sacks in 16 games compared to his one sack this year.

He had two forced fumbles, two passes defensed and three tackles for loss. This year, no passes defensed. This year, he has three tackles for loss.

Not what I would call significant improvement. Not what I would call improvement at all, actually.

Now, if you talk to coaches, they'll tell you about things Misi is doing better technically. They'll tell you he's often in better position and is setting the edge better and on and on. But ask why his bottom line numbers aren't thus better and you get silence.

And, without apologies, production is more important than technique.

Misi came to the Dolphins as a try-hard defensive end who needed to make the transition to stand-up 3-4 OLB. He gave hope last year that he could make the transition.

This year? Not quite as much.

How can you sign the biggest Free Agent ILB on the market and not have him calling the defensive plays?

Who comes up with this stuff?

I know people say Crowder was smart(even though I still question this), so I'll give you THAT! FINE!

Then explain to me how the "newbie" Burnett flies into town and HE starts calling the signals? WTF?

Only to FINALLY REALIZE(mid-season-uggggh), HEY! Maybe Dansby, our BEST/Highest PAID ILB should be making the calls-Dooh!

I'm not going to pretend that I know as much as the Miami Coaches know, but I guarantee you that the ink wouldn't have dried on Dansby's contract before I started drilling him on the calls.

(PS: I don't where that came from, just had to get it off my chest-THANKS)

Andy Reid would make sense...Quarterbacks have been an issue in Miami for over a decade now...He's a great QB coach, as his track record shows...Another good reason to hire him is we've got players better suited for a west coast offense...I've said this before and I'll say it again, Devone Bess would put up HUGE numbers in that type of offense. So would Marshall. Fasano. The only thing is we'd need more athletic off.linemen who can pull. The only one we have that can pull and is pretty athletic is Pouncey. But I'm all for Andy Reid. I would love Cowher but Reid would be a wise choice...I would take Reid over Fisher but that's just an opinion...

odinseye,

I wondered the same thing a week or 2 ago when they reported Burnett no longer would be calling plays. I was like WTF! Why is Dansby not doing that? Dansby is the the self proclaimed best LB in the league but doesn't call plays. He is one of the highest paid and for a time the highest paid ILB yet he is just a piece to the puzzle. Very weird team make up they have put together.

A lot of our players have improved over the last month. Kevin Burnett is a monster. Jared Odrick is playing very well. Vontae Davis. Karlos Dansby. On offense, Matt Moore, Reggie Bush, Brian Hartline and Anthony Fasano stick out. We've got some good players. Our rookies are all playing better. Now we need a young QB to develop, a RG, a RT, another WR and a TE. On defense, we really, really need another pass rusher, another shutdown corner (Serena sucks) and a playmaking free safety. I like the way the team has been playing, it's something to build on.

Montreal,

I'd be happy with Fisher or Reid. But 1 disagreement in your post is that Fasano would be horrible. He is not a West Coast vertical, pass catching TE

Odin....what ever Crowder was or wasn't (and you know I think he is a...wasn't).....

Dansby became the leader of the Defence by play making alone last year....couple that with his" Can do"....and he is the can't miss signal caller for your team.....Dansby should be our Ray Lewis (Dansby says he is better)......

You don't spoon feed leaders...you put responsibility on them and let them lead....sometimes instinct is better than brains (on Defence).....

Sometimes you just know what you know.....

Troy Polamalu knows what he knows.....and plays like it.....

Ray lewis...Ed reed.....and Dansby last year...and when he was with the Cardinals.....

SOmetimes you just gotta let players play......

Montreal,

Bro Im not calling you out more just passing time here at work with zero appointments for the rest of the day lol but Burnett as "monster". After 1 stand out game. He has been a massive disappoinment. I don't want him back for the money he is making. That could go toward another position because a rookie mid rounder with no clue could have done what he has this year and at least we could all spin a positive of it and say the rookie has potential. Burnett took all year to play 1 good game and now he is a MONSTER?

Stay the course. Why dump the FO just when they are hitting stride? Starting over will set us back 3 years.

Andy, Burnett has been awesome ever since the winning streak has started. It hasn't been just one game. He's been all over the field ever since that 1st win. Fasano may not be the fastest but he still gets open quite a lot. The reason his numbers are below average is because of our o-line and the crappy pass protection they provide for our QB, mainly the right side with our biggest stiff Marc Colombo. He can be a weapon in the passing game.

that's ridiculous. STats don't show everything. How many plays have you seen Misi miss on a tackle or miss on coverage. He is still young but he is a starter and plays about half the time splitting time with Jason Taylor who is still playing at a very high level and will be a hall of famer no doubt. Yes it'd be nice to see more stats but he does contribute and not in a bad a way.

I think it's safe to say a lot of these players have a very important 5 games left to prove they're worthy of keeping or they'll just get released...Burnett is one of them, but not the only one...

Misi looks bigger, more like a DE, I think he has put on some weight.

are you F-ing kidding me you feel the need to comment on his hair. Maybe you should be writing for Metro Sexual Weekly. HACK!You must be desperate for some ratings so you don't get fired or shipped to Clevland. There is nothing guranteed in the draft GM's take risks that either make them look great or ruin their careers. hind sight is always 20/20 and none would have known how anyone else in those rounds would have done in the NFL, some teams get lucky and most get crapped on. If you don't like it then follow another sport. I'm sick of hearing about other coach's and what they could do for this team, you're all delousional and/or bipolar spend more time taking your meds and less time ranting about this team. It's a F-ing game and if you make it your life than you're a loser living in mommies basement next to Mondo.

Mando, will we be getting to the Oakland game anytime soon? After having a bunch of days off, shouldn't a 3-8 team be practicing on Tuesday? Maybe figuring out how to defend the best run team we've faced all year. Or how to defend against the speed of the WRs.

Ya think?

DC Dolfan, maybe you should write a letter to Sparano to tell him how to do his job.

Maybe we can start a petition that's says fire Sparano and Ireland and drop it off at Ross office.

By the way, anyone see Ingram last night? Yup, another cr*p pick were almost got tied to. A couple yards here, a couple there. Didn't account for 1 of the 5 TDs.

2011 RB = Afterthought in today's NFL elite teams

I guess that's why Dolphin fans are so interested in getting a RB. When the World moves one way, Miami Dolphins go in the opposite direction.

Spiderman, Sparano won't read any letters from us. See, he's a football genius, and we're just retards. We can't have any helpful knowledge. I mean, he's watched the team for FOUR WHOLE YEARS. My 30 years of watching experience is bogus compared to him. I don't watch 23 hours of tape a day. Of course, I'm pretty sure I could win 3 games as HC of this team, but never mind that.

Let's keep telling ourselves these guys really are intelligent and can see things the rest of us don't and can explain other things away the rest of us see as problems. That's the Sparano way!

Mando lives in my mother's basement? Dude move over and stop hogging the remote.

WHOA - just woke up from a nightmare where we signed Del Rio as our head coach and drafted Jacory Harris with the number 4 pick overall

Maybe we can do a "Fan of the Week HC" for the HC job all next year. Best suggestion for the week gets to coach the following week. I would be on here all the time. Wait, I am on here all the time. ;)

I will root for the Jets if that happens.

This is what happens when you fill your roster with Yewts from Utah. Misi, Smith et al. Ireland needs to go. Its almost like they are going out of their way not to build a competitive team. There are so many players tearing it up in the league that the phins could have drafted but no!!!!!!!!!!!! Ross needs to hire a GM and Head Coach that know what they are doing.

Maybe the Dolphins can give up a 3rd for Suh next year

Would it be possible or too late to trade practice film of other teams for Mallett?

With the firing of Jack Del Rio.....add Jacksonville to the list of teams in NEED of a QB....

New HC....means NEW QB......

and its not like Gabbert is lighting it up....he looks like the worst of the bunch.....

For my part, after Miami is MATHEMATICALLY eliminated from the Playoffs, they can sit down on the Field, do headstands during Games, whatever.

Miami has been eliminated from the Playoffs since they didn't get a new coach last year. And fire Ireland because he came from the Cowboys too.

Texas, my ideas are WAY TO PRIMITIVE to be a HC.

For example, I would pass on 1st down (best down to pass on, since teams are usually looking for a run).

I would blitz to protect my sorry secondary (thus making QB make a quick decision).

I would, and I know this is going to sound FAR OUT THERE, save my 2nd-half timeouts for the end of the game, when I might need them for the 2min drill (just coming up with this stuff on the fly)

I'd run that Darren Sproles sweep last night with Reggie Bush (instead of banging him up the middle all day). And in the red zone, when I needed to bang, I'd use my more powerful back (Thomas). (stay with me here)

Knowing what I know about the history of this team, and being 3-7, I'd go for it on all 4th downs in the red zone (since I'd know FGs wouldn't win squat, and Playoffs were already out of the question so no reason not to be aggressive).

Finally, I'd get rid of Colombo, bring Carey back to RT, put Garner as RG, and use Fasano as a TIGHT END, not another lineman.

These are pretty outlandish moves, I know. I'm some sort of hippy or something for wanting to do this. Or an armchair HC.

Wonder if it would work?

Texas_Dolfan.....

if this FO is kept.....they will probably wait for Jacksonville to draft one of the top QBs....and then engage in a 2 week long negotiation with J-ville over Gabbert.....but thats not the worst part.....the kicker is....Ireland pulls this trade off.....and Gabbert stinks it up in Miami for the next 3 years.....

Side note.....

FIN FANS blame all of Gabberts troubles on the OL....and the OC....

stop me if you've heard this before.....

Genius!!!

I vote for DC to be HC rest of the year. Of course lets not forget to try and line Reggi up wide out and try some crossing routes. Maybe even try running him up the seam here and there.

WAIT -- No you can't be coach any this year. We need a high draft pick. Next year tho. Get your playbook ready.

I love you man! Just tell the truth. Misi is not producing.

DC....

How about using Thomas in the final 4 minutes of the Cowboys game.....since everybody in the stadium new you were gonna get conservative....can you at least be conservative with the bigger back....

Would you do that........or is that to far fetched....

Kris, I couldn't agree more. This FO has to go and has to go over a year ago. For the last 4 years I've heard them always say how aggressive they are going to be in FA but them always seem to play it extra safe.

I marvel constantly at the level of ignorance most show here in this Blog. You don't have the faintest idea how a Billionaire is constructed(the few there are). Courage, daring, sound decisions, vision, toughness, ruthlessness, ad infinutum, the whole of qualities I'm sure none of us possess in this Blog. And still many here are telling Ross what to do. Ross wouldn't even look at none of us here and wouldn't give a rats as- what we think(with excellent reasons).

oscar, get off of Ross dick are you related to him?

kris/Texas, ESPECIALLY when you KNOW you're getting fired at the end of the Season. What's the risk? I don't see it. If the play succeeds, hey, you look like a helluva Coach and won the game. If it doesn't, oh well, no one expected you to lose anyway, AND it's not going to change a thing end of Season. I don't understand the conservatism there. It's a Line Coach's conservatism that doesn't belong in the HC's head.

That's why I'm weary of getting a DC as a HC. They are generally more conservative (unless it's one of the Ryan brothers).

Some say Harbaugh is that way, but I don't see it. There's a fine line between CAREFUL and conservative. Sure, Harbaugh doesn't ask his QB to do more than he's able, but he DOES ask him to apply pressure, to make aggressive throws, to anticipate and change reads on the fly.

Supposedly, Henne wasn't "allowed" to do any of this until this year. But here comes Moore, and does it from DAY ONE!!! How can that be? Honestly, it's one thing I love about Moore, his gunslinger mentality. That's why he'll most likely be here next year, and Henne won't.

oscar canosa -- Are you really J-Lo?

I don't care if Ross reads this or not. I just enjoy sharing my pain with other Dolphins fans.

no one expected you to win (my bad)

Well said Oscar....ignorant F#ks....ALL of us.....huge waste of time to type on this blog to Mr. Ross.....how stupid could one be to actually believe Mr. Ross will EVER read any of this.....

Excuse me a min Oscar....

MR. ROSS.....PLEASE FIRE SPORANO.....PLEASE.....

OK...like tou were saying Oscar.....Ignorance level on this blog is thru the roof.....

Its a good thing you and me know that.....

Starting a real estate business during a housing bubble sure doesn't hurt either.

kris, I wish I can see that face of yours so I can sock you right in it for all the BS you talk on this blog. Your a greaseball nerd who thinks you know everything. F in rat!

Certainly I'm related to Ross. In my Fields I'm as/more talented than he is.

I wish you would pick a name and stick to it....

maybe we will both get our wish one day.....

I LOVE IT.....lol......

Andy,

From earlier:

Burnett was all over the field in Dallas. Maybe he had something to prove being that Dallas made no attempt to resign when his contract was up. Maybe the stage of a Thanksgiving game amped up his play but just like Armando's previous blog stated the "Dolphins standards must regain former levels".

Posted by: AndyNJ | November 29, 2011 at 02:27 PM

-I wondered the same things. Being Dallas and the Thanks Giving Day "Stage" and all.

Then I thought about what we discussed earlier, about him not calling the plays anymore. MAYBE Burnett is coming on now, because he is no longer burdened with the pre snap sets/calling the plays. Some guys just aren't cut out for it. They need that pre snap time to recover and get themselves set for the next play.

I think it's probably some combination of all of the above, the play calling duties not being the least.

Anyways, if my "THEORY" proves correct, rack it up as another major blunder by the Miami Coaching Staff!

I mean, after all, if there's one thing that Parcells "Creation" has proven since coming to Miami, they sure know how NOT to use the talent they have available.

If it wasn't so pitiful, it'd be HILARIOUS!

kris, I dont post often but when I read your posts your a condescending a hole. I bet your a little whiney punk when you dont have your keyboard to hide behind.

OK......i'll bet you don't post often.....you got a bridge you wanna sell me too.....

No, there a reason why you get into it with a bunch of bloggers your a dirtbag, just stating the facts.

Andy, Burnett has been awesome ever since the winning streak has started. It hasn't been just one game. He's been all over the field ever since that 1st win.

-Montreal,

Burnett's play "took off" the day Dansby took over play calling duties.

Coincidence?

And to think, it only took Nolan 7 straight losses to think of this move.

FIST PUMP!!!!

Who???

The best thing about this conversation is this.....

you are telling me that I get under a trolls skin......

Do you know how much I value that information....thats like GOLD me....

Your job is to frustrate posters.....and i frustrated the frustrater (is frustrater a word......I DON'T CARE).....you get my point.....

I may cut and paste this on a word document so I can read it later....

your pain sustains me.......

LMAO, Anyways kris, I was just kidding, its all good man, I just wanted to be a internet "thug" I have no problem with you or no one else, life is too short to hold grudges. Keep up the good work fellow bloggers!

Also kris, its ok if you spit it out.

Sooooo...back to football

I guess its all Misi's fault....
