Olshansky another failed Miami Cowfin

You know by now that Igor Olshansky was cut late Tuesday by the Dolphins.

And with that, another former Dallas Cowboys castoff fails in Miami.

Olshansky is gone from his third team in four seasons because, how to put this delicately, he stunk of late. He had one tackle in the last month, which is only one more than you or me or any of our pets. Last week, during preparation period when he should have been highly motivated to practice hard and perform so he could get on the field against his former Cowboys teammates, Olshansky laid an egg. He suffered a calf injury.

And so he was inactive for the Thanksgiving Day game versus Dallas.

Womp, womp, womp.

So after much consideration the Dolphins signed formerly cut Ryan Baker as an upgrade to Olshansky. Baker was cut two months ago.

Another former Cowboy turned Dolphin has thus failed. (For the complete story on Miami's roster moves click here.)

Note to Jeff Ireland: Please, with respect, stop signing Cowboys discards. There's a reason they were discarded by a team that isn't exactly Super Bowl caliber. If you've got to sign discards, how about adding folks from the Green Bay Packers or New England Patriots or Pittsburgh Steelers? Those teams run 3-4 defenses. Those teams score tons of points on offense. And those teams have done something in recent years neither the Cowboys nor Dolphins have done in a long time: They've won Super Bowls.

If you have to pick through someone's trash can, do it in a rich neighborhood, not the same old housing project that isn't producing results for you lately.

This year, more than any other since the current administration took over, the reach for former Cowboys has not really worked too well. Joe Berger was cut. Nate Jones was re-signed. And then cut. Lousaka Polite was cut. Marc Colombo was signed and has started but everyone knows he is more part of the problem that is the 2011 Dolphins than part of the solution.

Linebacker Kevin Burnett, another former Cowboy, signed a $21 million contract in July. The jury is still out on him because he has shown flashes of improvement lately, but overall, he has not played up to his contract.

The one shining success in adding former Cowboys to the Dolphins this year has been Matt Moore. He's been a revelation in that he has been many things the Dolphins hoped to get in a starting quarterback but never did from Chad Henne. He came to the Dolphins as merely a backup with no hope of competing for the starting job, so even in that regard, the Dolphins misjudged his abilities.

But at least Moore's been a good addition -- good work by the personnel department. He has so far played himself into deserving a chance to compete for a job in Miami in 2012.

Otherwise, the continued addition of former Cowboys has been a failure. It stopped working after 2008 when Anthony Fasano and Jason Ferguson and Akin Ayodele were added.

Igor Olshansky is only the latest example of that failure.

[Injury update: Dan Carpenter is practicing and ready to go. He will kick Sunday barring an unforeseen setback ... Vernon Carey did not practice today and will likely be listed as questionable on Friday.]

Aside from my wonderful contributions to rational and intellectual analysis, Bill Hozie @ 3:35 demonstrated factually and with no emotional bias, the hypocrisy of those who condemn Henne while praising Moore. Genius.

DKM, not nice.

Anyway, his name is the least of beerphin's problems. His biggest problem is he wants to draft Trent Richardson in the first round. Because Adrian Peterson is doing such wonders for Minnesota.

So one priority at a time. First we gotta school beerphin in 2011 football...no QB, no post-Season. Very easy to understand (not sure why people have a hard time with it).

Hey EVERYBODY!

Paul has a **BREAKING NEWSFLASH** for us.

It's pretty COMPLEX so try to stick with me.

This just in:

Apparently the economy is in shambles and the internet age is hurting the Newspaper Revenues!
---------------------------------------------

Well, I'll be DING, DANG, DONG!

Thanks "Paul" ;)

Gotta go, folks. I appreciate all your opinions.

I appreciate you being here.

It'll be fun to find all those ridiculous "conspiracies" you were posting regarding Salguero.

Not that making you look like an ass is hard work---you do it better than anybody without the assistance---but I'll find it and post it later regardless.

Valhaha!

Someone explain why Armando was gone for a week.

Football is a game on inches and the Dolphins just keep falling short right at the end.

The Dolphins need a mind set like GB and NE. They keep going for your throat till the last seconds.

With a 3-8 record, they need to let it all ride. When your 14-0 and on the opponents 20, you should not be playing for a FG. It feels that way all the time. I don't know if it is Sparano or Dabol!!

I ALWAYS get a warm fuzzy feeling all over when Mando stops by!

Thanks Armando!!!!

ltcdolphin, most likely he was suspended.

He was involuntarily furloughed by the Herald. It's happened before, in fact, which most people with an I.Q. above "chair" (or odinseye) probably recalled.

JS in LA,

Just to repeat myself, I'm an Armando fan. Just because we don't see eye to eye one everything doesn't mean I don't like the guy. I know Kelly somewhat, but I'm not looking to go elsewhere (despite what others might want). Guess I just got a bit tired of Armando beating down on Jeff Ireland, who actually hasn't done as bad a job as most say he has. I guess people have forgotten what a lousy job guys like Rick Spielman did when he was here.

Do you people actually not understand what a fulrough is??

Armando was JUST here explaining the situation and some of you still don;t seem to understand at all. "Suspension?" Where on Earth are you getting that from?

Look, the Herald isn't in good shape financially. They have made sweeping cuts everywhere. One of the cost-saving measures they use is furloughing employees like Salguero on occassion---consider it a weeks (unpaid) vacation that they don't want.

I know Kelly somewhat, but I'm not looking to go elsewhere (despite what others might want).

Craig, very amusing, let me be the first to say I like you right where you are (gives me someone to disagree with everyday).

Paul,

I myself cited financial reasons as one of my "Conspiracy Theories" and a possible "reprimand" as the other.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............that doesn't give you a lot to work with-ROTFLMAO!

Oh well, judging by the content of your last "NEWS FLASH", I'm SURE you'll come up with something VERY COMPLEX ;)

PS: Have fun dumpster Diving back through the old archives-LOL!

GuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuFFaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw!!!!!

paul, so Armando just lied to us? He just said that wasnt the reason you jack ass.

Thanks all, furlough makes sense based on the sorry paper the herald is. At one time it printed the news not some reporters left leaning views. When I was growing up in Miami the paper was excellent, not now.

Armando claimed stats were wrong in comparison between Moore and Henne. The thing about stats is everyone decides to use their own to suit their purpose. Armando is wrong in his comparison and suggesting Moore is better than Henne is just delusional. These are the stats from NFL.COM

Henne has a career completion percentage higher than Moore.

Henne's career pass attempts per game are 50% higher than Moore.

Henne's career sack rate is lower than Moores.

Henne's career interception rate is lower than Moores.

Henne's career YPG is substantially higher than Moores.

Moore's career TD% is higher than Henne's.

Regarding this season,

Moore is sacked more frequently, has a lower interception rate (misleading), has a lower yards per attempt, throws for the same percentage of TD's, and is completing passes at a higher rate than Henne did in his four games. (In fact, Moore is completing passes at a higher rate than he ever has.)

There is only one possible conclusion; these guys are more similar than dissimilar with Henne holding a slight edge and neither being a QB you would bet the farm on.

Although I am little more than a rotting, maggot filled corpse buried in the ground these days I still recall the lovely little sun bonnets I would wear and how Ike would gently take me by the hand as we walked through the rose garden.

Yeah except, as you say, Armando was just here and said you were wrong.

What part of the Kettle are you calling black Pot? I mean Paul?

paul, your about as dumb as a jar of pennies.

Man are you ever black.

John you are about as dumb as a jar of jelly.

Man, this furloughing debate lead to some funny posts. Man, I had a good laugh.

Go leafs, beat those bully bruins. Man, times are tough when the leafs give you the best chance to win from all your favourite teams.

odinseye is an old viking term for a little boys...ahem..well..um...you can figure it out.

Technically, bot mando and Paul can be both right. Everyone knows that the biggest expense that most companies have is payroll. So maybe the only way they are making money is with the payroll slashing or furloughing in the picture.

So yes, they can be making money and yes they may only be able to stay afloat is by furloughing which is not a good practice over the long term or sustainable as your better employees will leave for better pastures.

There's your financial analysis lesson for the day, for free, by someone who gets paid to do so.

When people put things like "LOL" or "LMAO" in theor own posts are they trying to convince themselves it's supposed to be clever or funny? Or is it intended for other readers?

Either way, you ever notice it's the people who are the LEAST funny and/or clever that resort to doing it? Weird how that works.

(Don't look now but Paul just figured out he was wrong and is trying to change the subject.)

PS: ROTFLMAO-LOL-Haaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

(and by the way, the Herals IS in very bad financial shape...and I'm in a position to know)

Posted by: paul | November 30, 2011 at 05:12 PM

Yeah, except Armando was just here and said you were wrong. It is what it is!

Care to tell everyone again who was wrong here?

Merling and White weren't awful selections they just didn't work out.

Funny story, The first time my wife saw Pat White play. She said "who is that little guy. They better get that boy out of the game. He's going to get hurt."

The very next play he got knock out.

**TROLL ALERT**

Elmo's at it AGAIN:

Tickle me there, and then I'll tickle you.

Moore wasn't even on the Roster for the Cowboys when the season began when he was there. He was cut and picked up by Carolina that year. Technically, he is not a former Cowboy, he was there for training camp and pre-season, but not when the season began!! So technically he's not a former Cowboy, he's a former Panther.

WOW!

I don't know about anybody else, but that was some funny stuff, that right THAR!

OK, back to Dolphins In Depth!

I think we should play Solia at Right Guard for the rest of the season and move Carey back to Tackle.

Are you going to take some cash out of Solias pocket. And give Carey his money back?

I'm curious. Has anyone ever been in a financially healthy organization that gave their employees furloughs unpaid two or three times a year. If they can't afford their committed payroll they must be in financial trouble, no matter what Armando says.

I think what Armando is saying is; the Fins have picked up a potential franchise QB, and a stud tight end, who can either help out blocking for a hampered OL, or act as a great receive, from the cast off's of Dallas. I think that is what he is saying, but I am not sure......hmmmmm

I'm a typical blogger with no reading and comprehension skills, so I don't know what Armando is saying or anybody else for that matter.

But I like to see my name here.

Gary

I get that all the time. It's from using used condoms that I find on the street. If you always use a new one, you will be fine.

Mark in Toronto,

Sorry man, I'm giving us Canadians a bad name...LOL.

Do you think the Leafs will get involved in the Booby Ryna sweepstakes? I'm thinking highly doubtful.....too much competition. Heck of a young player, though.

so sick of seeing your posts Mando... the Cowboys are a premier franchise, something the Dolphins used to be around here no thanks to the people of Miami, therefore the talent that falls off their roster is often of better quality than what comes off other rosters. The giants are another team with this sort of roster talent as opposed to KC which is almost like a minor-league team in the NFL. Surprised in your 'wisdom' that you wouldn't already know what the score is in the league you cover for a living...

I think listing Lousaka Polite as a mistaken signing is misguided. He was a veteran Fullback when we signed him - a position very prone to a short career. He was widely recognized as a great performer for a time... and then age and the pounding of all those games caught up and his production dropped off. But to call him a failed signing? No way. We got our money's worth.

Dave wasn't Polite MVP of SB VIII?

DKM did you ever watch Pat White play in college? The guy dominated. I thought that he was going to be a wideout for them not a QB but... To say Pat White didn't have potential is just stupid. He was same size as Vick he just didn't make it in the league. 5'10 180 is an exaggeration. They took a shot at a QB that could play the option which was in demand cuz of the success of the wildcat that previous year. It wasn't genius but atleast they tried to hit a homerun.

DC like I've said before I want Brandon Weeden. I like Trent Richardson and Justin Blackmon becuz they are going to be elite IMO. I don't want a USC kid who is short and has no arm. I don't want another Pat White ie. RGIII. Landry Jones and Luck are the only two I see with 1st rd potential to be great. Yes the others have potential but I don't know if it will be enough at the next level. Brandon Weeden is ready to play immediately.

Why would Indy want to trade Manning and give up all his royalties?

You saw the hard time Packers had in giving up on Farves royalties. The tried to force him into retirement over and over.

And if Mannings healthy. Why would Luck want to sit behind him for a number of years? He has records to break. And money to make.

Armando is right, the Dolphins keep picking through someone else's garbage! It's GIGO! Garbage In...Garbage Out!

Peyton will retire.

Would I have given two #1 picks for Carson Palmer? No chance. Would I have loved to see him playing here? You know it, Man, you know it.

C.Palmer is NOT Romo. He is the complete Package as a passer. You play him man-man, he will place the ball where you can't defend it, specially the long one. You play zone on him, with his experience, he will murder you. Only way I see to play him on Sunday is what someone in another Blog said, rush him hard from the ends as he's not mobile like Romo is.

C. Palmer is not Obama.

Neither do you know if Peyton will retire.

How does Tebow do it? It's his Intention.

Since the O, it has always been the Intention.

Mando, keep doing what you do. Most of us are very appreciative. You are right with Moore, they got lucky and were still hell bent on giving the job to henne. Who was the mastermind that gave henne the starting job? Thats what I want to know.I hoped and hoped but he continued to suck and suck, FORGET the stats, it is obvious the team responds much better to Moore.
