Mike Pouncey neck sore but fine

Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey definitely suffered something of a scare on Sunday when he took a blow to his head and neck and, suddenly, all feeling in his legs left him. After the game, the feeling had returned but he told me his arms felt, "tingley."

He went for tests Monday and while he still might be a bit sore, a source says the rookie center suffered no significant damage.

So while Pouncey might be held out of practice or limited some this week, he should be fine long-term.

Hey, you know what that was? That was good news!

I know, as a Dolphins fan, you're unfamiliar with good news so I just want to give you a heads up so you can recognize it when it comes. And this qualifies because Pouncey has been one of the more consistent players on the Miami offense this season.

Yeah, what happened? Where are you?

Anyway, I'm thrilled to hear about Pouncey. He's one of the only good things to happen in this miserable Season. The guy is a PLAYER!

You really see how the mind messes with people reading their posts. The pessimism is quite thick. Now people believe nothing right can ever happen in Miami. Therefore, despite being one of 2 worst teams in the NFL, with a tough schedule, no win in sight, many believe Miami will find a way NOT to get the 1st pick in the Draft. Not sure (again, other than pessimism) why they think that. There's no sign this team is getting better. No sign they can beat anyone remaining. We lost to the worst QB in the NFL (Tebow), how can we beat Matt Cassel? MAYBE we win against the Redskins, but that's a big if. That would be the absolute ONLY game I say we had a chance in (since they have a 3rd-string QB like we do). SO IRONIC! We get our only win against the guy we Drafted as our hope, who due to his horrible play dashed our hopes for the next hope (Luck). Life is a trip!

My son plays college football and neck injuries have always been a big fear of mine ever since he played little league football. Pouncey is a good player and will only get better. I'm happy to hear he is ok. And I hope the geniuses in Miami don't try to rush him back, the season is gone, save him for the future. I want to win as much as anyone, but we have to be sensible.

Agreed PA, they made a mistake playing Long in the Preseason last year (or was it 2 years ago), when he got hurt against the Cowboys. He really hasn't been right since. There's absolutely NO need to play any future star this year if they have any injury whatsoever. We're already mathematically eliminated from the Playoffs, that's all that matters (not pride, not winning a game for your beleagured Coach). So Pouncey should be brought back slowly.

However, as a high school wrestler, I had that happen to me (like a stinger). Very scary. Your body goes numb (for me it was my right side). What happens is 2 vertebrae get spread and the nerve gets pinched. I went for an MRI, was cleared, then back at practice within a few days. Problem was, I re-tweaked that nerve a few more times within a year or so. Playing neighborhood football and wrestling. So, I guess the vertebrae stay spread awhile or something. I definitely got the tingling a couple more times after that first time. Pouncey should sit for a week or 2 at least.

I just saw the picture of a fan holding a suck for luck sign at a game, I understand the feeling of some folks, but I can't get behind the movement, I refuse to give up maybe that's wrong if we want to get Luck, but when i was in the military, they drilled it into our heads not to quit, never give up, there's always one more thing you can do to succeed. I don't know what that would be, but we can't just lay down and give up. We are a proud franchise, maybe not as proud as we were in the 70s and 80s but still proud. Sorry if I ruffled any suck for luck feathers. Just mho.

PA, being a military man, was there ever an operation you heard of (or were personally involved with) when the U.S. retreated (to either regroup or attack from a different location)?

If so, it's the same thing. Sucking for Luck isn't giving up. It's retooling to improve your next attack.

Winning the battle isn't as important as winning the War. We're already out of Playoff contention this year. Only thing winning will do is win a battle. The War is being an elite team, competing year in and year out, making the Playoffs and going on to a SuperBowl run. As fans, we need to keep our eyes on the prize. Sure, for the players, they shouldn't quit, that's their job. But ours is to look out for the best long-term possibility for the franchise. And getting a legit franchise QB is the most important thing that could happen to this team.

So, the 2 aren't mutually exclusive. The team CAN play to win, and fans CAN want to Suck for Luck, and both would be right.

DC, another reason not to rush stars back is so that we can see what talent we have as backups, that way when the house cleaning starts, we know what we have. But Sparano and Ireland aren't going to be concerned about trying to help out the next regime, so I guess we're beat there.

I'm just reminded of the Battle of the Bulge in WW2, where the 101st were surrounded but refused to give in, and what you just posted makes sense, and I don't condemn anyone for that philosophy, but I just can't get onboard, yet. But I'll be honest, it's getting more difficult.

PA finfan...

I'm kinda with you...and its hard to hope to lose....but what do we really get if we win....more mediocrity probably....

My solution to the Luck thing is this...

Give Belicheat a 2nd a nd a 6th for MALLETT...and lets get back to the buisness of winning....

Yes..I understand the trade deadline has come and gone...so obviously I am talking about next season....

LOL, you're right, that was a noble battle. However, the military wouldn't have a word "retrograde" if they never thought they might need to use it.

I was p**sed when they didn't take mallet in the draft, I know they said he had "issues", but alot of guys did, and they're doing fine.

DC...your posting early this morning....

usually don't see you till about 9 or so....

yeah kris, taking the day off, so here earlier than usual.

PA finfan....me too....

I think their is still a window to get him....might cost a little more....2nd in a 6th maybe.....

but once we have him...we have him.....

Brady is gonna play at least 5 more years (after this one)....

What do we have to lose by making an attempt to get Mallett....

DC...you should be sleeping in...

another addict I see....much like myself....

DC ON THE MOVE THIS EARLY OF THE DAY ..........

HE'S A MILITARY MAN
HE'S A WRESTLER
HE'S A NECK DOCTOR

WHERE'S OSCAR ?

dc is a historian ....................

Maybe we stay the course and they try to "suck for Luck"....

but it looks like Indy will out suck us....

If we win a game or 2....then I think the contingency plan should be to make a move for Mallett....

Forget Barkley or any of the others.....

Surprised to hear you say get Mallett kris. You're one of the like-minded posters and the probability is better to Draft a 1st-round QB. And if we didn't get Luck, we'll get the 2nd-best QB since we won't Draft any higher than #2.

So, are you saying you think Mallett is better than the 2nd-best rated QB in this year's Draft (Jones, Barkely, RG III, etc.)?

Personally, I don't think that's a wise choice. First, hopefully with a new GM, who knows how to pick talent, we can be right more than wrong on our picks (therefore it would be good to maximize the amount of picks we have).

And, I'm sick of taking other team's trash. Bellichick isn't an idiot, he's not giving us a possible franchise QB for what you're asking. The only way he'd dump him to us (a division rival) is if he doesn't think Mallett would be trouble dealing with twice a year.

I'd feel better just going with our choice in the Draft (1st or 2nd pick). Then that would be OUR guy (meaning the next HC's guy), and it would be up to him to develop the kid. I think that's the best route to go.

I'm a Renaissance Man ALoco. A man of many hats!

Also, not a military man like PA, but I believe you can sleep your life away, or wake up and LIVE IT!! So I'm an early riser no matter what day it is.

I CAN SEE TODAY THIS BLOG WILL BE FULL OF VERY LONG POSTS ............WE STILL 7.00 AM AND THE POSTS ARE LONG ...........

Oh yeah, forgot ALoco, anything more than like 10 syllables and your brain starts to hurt. I forgot.

DC... YOUR POSTS @ 7;53 AND 7;54 AM ARE VERY GOOD AND SHORT .

ALoco, when you go to the bookstore and choose a book to read, do you do it by the topic, author, or do you look at the number of pages and make your decision based on that?

DC............ DID YOU NOTICE A CHANGE IN KRIS'S POSTS ,HE'S MORE REALISTIC AND MORE TO THE POINT THAN HIS HIS EARLY POSTS FROM 6 MONTH AGO ,WHICH IS MORE FUN TO READ .

DC...if you remember...I believe Mallett was worthy of a 1st rd pick....

and from many things that I read last year....many GMs thought he had 1st rd talent...and 3rd rd maturity.....

looks like the maturity thing was WAY more important to NFL GMs....and Ireland was to dumb to step in and take a chance when a chance should have been taken....

If we had Mallett now (playing or on the bench)......this Donk (Ireland and Sporonao)...might hvae been able to convince Ross AND the fan base that they had a plan..,thus greatly IMPROVING THEIR CHANCE TO KEE THEIR JOBS....

Not the case tho....and now we are in "suck for Luck" mode...and in need of a new FO....

Thats what NOT taken Mallett has gotten the Donks.....

DC...WHY I WOULD GO TO A BOOK STORE TO BUY CRAP WRITTEN BY A SO CALLED (( AUTHOR ))...TODAY NO ONE WRITES,THEY ALL COPY FROM OLDER WRITERS WHEN WRITING WAS AN ART ...........

8.00 AM POST RIGHT ON THE MONEY,,,,,, MALLET WAS THE GUY TO TAKE A CHANCE ON ,AND NOR R.BUSH .

kris, agreed, Mallett would have been a good choice last year (when we could have used him). I think that ship has sailed now though. Don't see Bellichick giving him up for anything less than a 1st-rd pick (why would he make it easy on us if we're desperate?).

DC...eevn if Mallett SUCKED this year....it still would have been job security for the Donks....they were to stupid to know it....so good riddance to them....

Belicheat may not make it easy on us....but he seems to covet many draft picks as oppossed to one....especially since his team is always picking so late in the round....

2nd and a 4th maybe????

i'm just speculating.....

Maybe hoping is more the word....

LOL, I understand kris. That's all we can do here this year. Don't think it will happen, but this is the place for speculation.

Why should we concentrate on the next game if the team doesn't do it themselves, lol?

Do we even need to guess the game plan?

Sparano: Ok team. We're going to start strong. Build a 7-10 pt lead through the 1st three quarters. Then we'll take it easy in the 4th and try to hold on. Eventually KC will rebound and take the lead. And we'll fold like a lawn chair. All in?

Team: Yes Coach, let's go!!!

This Mallett talk is a complete waste of time. He is not going to be a Dolphin. I am also not a fan of Cote's article today about the odds being against the Fins to get Luck. Ok, we all know that.

I'd like to see more discussion around which QB is best for the Fins. QB's need to be in college, likely to be in the Draft next year. Realistically a top 10 pick, which is where the Fins are going to be. I think we would agree that all of them (Luck, Jones, Barkley, RG III, etc.) are all better than what we have today.

We can't control exactly which pick we will get. So, we should be talking about which teams are going to be in the Top 1) with the Fins, which teams are really in need of a QB (I do think Indy is in need of a QB as there is no gaurantee Payton can hold up, and which QB's are going to fall to which pick.

Occupy Miami Today! Just remember, if you see any rapes, assaults, homicides, drug deals etc.... just keep it on the low-down! Thanks!

So, if we don't get Luck (as Cote suggests today) and we are in the top 5 which QB do we want? If we fall between 5-10 because we actually win 2-3 games (not likely) then what? Are there likely QB's left that we really want or do we get a stud pass rusher, a stud CB or a stud NT?

So sad that we are talking about the draft in early November!!!

Enough of the Mallet talk. Get your own guy in the draft. Why would you ever want to hand a division opponent draft picks. We need every one of them so our next GM can build.

kris,

Come on man, give the Mallett talk a rest. They didn't want him in the second last year, they certainly aren't going to give up a 2nd AND a 6th for him this year. They didn't even want him in the third last year when they could have traded up to get him.

You say 'lots of GM's had him as a first round talent but a third round in terms of maturity'. Where is the evidence of this? Are you saying he's matured nicely in the last six months? Where is the evidence of this? Mallett was like the sixth or seventh QB taken last year in a weak class. This year I'd rather have one of the top 3 QBs in a stronger class. How long are we going to keep playing this charade? Are we going to have to keep listening to this until the Dolphins make their selection in April? Do you REALLY think a guy like Jeff Fisher is going to come in and stake his future to Ryan Mallett, when there are better, less risky picks available in the draft. REALLY?

JPAO...

Its only a waste of time if YOU chose to take the time to write on your keyboard "its a waste of time"....

If you don't chose to do that...then you have wasted any time....

Your topics aren't bad...and feel free to change the conversation at any time....

but like I told a poster on here before....

No options should be OFF the table....NONE....

As a GM of an NFL team you have a responsibility to explore everything...not somethings....you should have contingency plan B-Z...and everything in between...anything less than that is less than 100%...

You may feel the Mallett conversation is irrelevant...and thats fine you are entiltled to your opinion...

but an NFL GM that thinks that....will do a dis-service to us all....

graig m, KRIS IS RIGHT WHEN HE SAID MALLET IS 3rd ROUND MATURITY .........WE DIDN'T HEAR ANY THING BAD ABOUT HIM SINCE HE WENT TO BOSTON ..........

Craig M, 2 drrinkminimum, and anybody else that doesn't agree....

Read my post @ 8:37 and you will have my way of thinking....

What I don't get is your guys "closed" minded way of thinking....

I mean seriously...Mallett was a 3rd round pick....Hardly irreplaceable....

We get rid of 2nd round picks like they are going out of style....

Ted Ginn....1ST RD

John Beck.... 2nd Rd
Pat White...2nd rd

Lets not act like Mallett would be the 1st THIRD rd pick in NFL history to get traded....

Craig, let me answer that for you bud (morning by the way): YES, we will need to hear all this until we pick next year.

There's all kinds of wild speculation out there. Beerphin says don't get a QB at all. He thinks the way to win in the NFL in 2012 is get a RB (Richardson from Alabama). Not sure about that logic. Best running back in the league is Adrian Peterson, don't see his team lighting it up.

Some people say keep Henne (because it worked so well this year). Of course, then the argument becomes who's the competition(I think John Beck might become available after the Season, anyone want to see a Henne/Beck QB tree?)?

All these are fun to indulge in now. But the God's honest absolute truth of the matter is, April whatever it is, with the first (or 2nd) pick in the Draft, the Miami Dolphins select...(add top or 2nd-rated QB on GM's board here).

Bank on that!

You say 'lots of GM's had him as a first round talent but a third round in terms of maturity'. Where is the evidence of this?

Are you really gonna make me find evidence of this...or similiar statements Craig M....don't go getting selective amnesial on me now....

We all know why/how he fell....amd it wast talent....

WTF...thats not even english.....

and it wasn't talent....

JPAO,

I like Jones as the next guy up but I need to see more of Barkley. He looked good on the weekend. It's just my opinion but I think Jones would be a GREAT consolation prize. To me, we can't win any more than 2 games to get one of these guys. I think the Colts will have the first pick and they will definitely take Luck. The Cards are bad but would they draft a QB after investing heavily in Kolb? I doubt it. They also have Seattle (who are brutal too) and the Rams (also bad) on their schedule. So the Colts are our main rivals for Luck but the Seahawks are bad and I think the Broncos are just plain awful too and may not win another game either. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they scrap the Tebow experiment at the end of this year and draft a guy like Barkley.

GRAIG M .... ASKING KRIS TO FIND EVIDENCE OF THE mallet TOPIC IS A PROVE YOU R A FAN OF THE 99 buffet of knowledge )) article .....

Kris,

I TRULY appreciate your lesson.?.

Mallett is NEVER going to be a Fin. NEVER. Move on to reality. Find another prospect.

That is what GM's need to do. Work in REALITY.

At this point why not give some time off the few good players and give them time to recover. Jake Long has been playing hurt all year! For what, so he can risk further injury or a career for 2 wins! Indy is tanking the season, so Miami coaches should save the good players and give other a chance to see what they can do. The season is lost!

Ireland: "Hello Bill, how are you? Hey, you know we haven't had a good QB in two decades. You know because of that we haven't been able to compete with you. You have won just a little bit during that time. Hey, BTW, how about that kid you invested time in...you know Mallett. What do you think about trading him to your division rival?"

Billy B: "Oh, you want me to be stupid like your team was when you gave me Welker? Oh, but you want me to do it with a QB? You know that is the most important position on the the field right?"

Ireland: "Yeah, I know this sounds ridiculous. I had every opportunity to draft Mallett but passed on him. Now I am going to give you two draft picks for him. What do you think?"

Billy B: "Go F-c- Off! You're an idiot!"

kris,

Good post at 8:43 am. You make good points.

I'm just not sold on Mallett. I wasn't sold on him last year and I'm certainly not sold on him now. Some people say Belichick got a steal in the third, I say he was wasted a pick. I'm not prepared to let him off the hook for what I perceive to be a wasted pick and give him better value for it. Not convinced other teams will either. I don't trust Mallett off the field and I don't believe he's all that on the field. Time will tell. Either I'll be wrong or you'll be wrong but me personally, I'd rather be wrong on Jones or Barkley if we can't get Luck. You guys pleaded for a first round QB. Let's take a first round QB.

jpao,

KRIS IS VERY REALISTIC ...MALLET WAS IN FACT IN OUR HANDS AND THE GARAGE MANAGER LET HIM GO FEW MONTHS AGO , IT'S NEEDED GUTS AT THE THAT TIME ............

It would be great to see Manny Fernandez knock the snot out of the guy holding the "Suck for Luck" sign.

THE GARAGE MANAGER DRAFTED POUNCEY AND GATES .NEITHER MADE ANY IMPACT ,,,AND HE LEFT MALLET THE REAL THING .

JPAO....

I'm trying to have a conversation....don't remeber typing anything about "lessons"...

and haven't been sarcastic either....you do understand we can disagree and still have a civilized conversation right?

I will tell you this JPAO....you NOR I have no idea what reality is....when it comes to the Dolphins....

So I will continue speculating (just like you)...with or without your consent....

THE GARAGE MANAGER DRAFTED POUNCEY AND GATES .NEITHER MADE ANY IMPACT ,,,AND HE LEFT MALLET THE REAL THING .

Posted by: ALoco | November 01, 2011 at 08:57 AM

Ingram was the real thing too.

I would have been fine picking Mallett....IN THE DRAFT. But we didn't do it. We didn't invest one pick for him. Now we are going to invest two? Meanwhile we will have access to 4-5 other college QB's who all can be argued as good if not better than Mallet. Please....

What makes anyone think Belichek is going to give up Mallet just because we want him to?

Crazy.

A second and a sixth? Like a sixth is going to motivate the deal?

Crazy.

Belicheck give Mallett to a division rival?

Crazy.

IMO, if Belichick did that deal with us, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him trade up in the first to gtab either Jones or Barkley as Brady's replacement. Do you really want to hand him the opportunity of drafting a franchise QB for the next 10-12 years. I don't. I want Jones or Barkley, not play against them twice a year. Now people are going to say, 'It wouldn't be like Belichick to make a move like that'. I say, Belichick is nothing if unpredictable. If he thinks he's got his future franchise QB in Mallett, I say 'prove it!'.

Let's trade Moore and Merling for Aaron Rodgers.
