Jason Taylor talks about retiring, retirement and regret

Jason Taylor doesn't want to make this about him although, of course, it is totally about him.

He confirmed this afternoon what I wrote about in my column this morning and that is he is indeed retiring after Sunday's season-ending game for the Dolphins against the New York Jets.

"Unfortunately this will be my last game as a Miami Dolphin and a professional football player," Taylor said. "I look forward to enjoying this week and soaking it all in the next few days. Obviously, we have a game left to play. So while there will be time for thank yous and good-byes this is not the time. But I will say this will be my last game as an NFL football player so I look forward to it."

Why is Taylor leaving? Obviously he is 37 years old and would be 38 when the 2012 season begins next September. Taylor realizes this is a younger man's game and realizes the Dolphins are going to get younger.

"This organization in the near future is going to make some changes and part of those changes is needing to address some personnel positions and this is the right time for me to go ahead and go and allow this organization to grow and improve," he said.

Taylor spoke from the heart and did admit he leaves the game with one regret.

"If there's one regret I have as an athlete the last 15 years its that I didn't get a chance to bring a championship to Miami and be part of that and help bring it to Miami," he said. "... There's a lot of by-products that come with playing the game -- the fame, the money. But at the end of the day we all want to win. And, unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to do that. As my career comes to an end that's one thing that like so many other great players, I haven't had a chance to do that. That's my one regret."

Any chance he'll ever return? I think there is a chance. But the truth is Taylor intends to pursue a career in the media and television. And he's not going to leave that to chase some end-of-season lark, say, next December. I do leave the door of possibility open should Taylor not be in the media.

But he will be and he puts locks and chains on his door.

"Look, Sunday is my last game," Taylor said. "I'm going to go ahead and walk away -- hopefully healthy ... I'm not even going to leave the door open for any of that stuff. As a matter of fact, I might even change my cell phone number so they can't get me."

As much as I'd like to wax poetic about JT Mando, I got a Pit Bull Bull Mastiff with finger nail polish on his claws.
I like to Party as much as ANYONE, but right is right and wrong is just WRONG!

Happy New Years!!!!

ODIN.......... NICE POST .......

Jason Taylor doesn't want to make this about him although, of course, it is totally about him.

-Armando Salguero-

Of course it is Mando, of course it is.

Why don't you just write him him a love song and get it over with already?

PS: Poems work too!

ODIN... I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING ,,,,WHEN ARMANDO TRY TO WRITE IN ENGLISH WITH STYLE,HE ALWAYS FAILS ........

PS...WE KNOW JT LEAKED HIS RETIREMENT TO ARMANDO B/C ARMANDO ALWAYS TOOK CARE OF HIM AND ALSO HE GOES TO HIS HOUSE FOR DINNER ONCE A MONTH ............

(( BUFFET OF FOOD ))

Odin, As a new Years resolution how about never appearing on here again, Lets start the New Year B.S Free. Thanks

Mando, Odins right, Give it a rest.

139.5 sacks. 47 forced fumbles. 9 TDs. 2 safeties. 2006 NFL Defensive POY. and dancing with the stars. Not bad.

And that tub of lard failure and scam artist Parcells chased him out of town for no good reason.

WHEN ARMANDO WRITES ABOUT JT,HE THINKS FANS ARE DAYING TO HEAR HIS BIASED ARTICLE ABOUT JT ........

NO SHAME LEFT ...........

ALoco how's your man-crush on Tom Brady going?

(((BUFFET OF MAN CRUSH)))

I LOVED JASON TAYLOR AND SORRY TO SEE HIM GO , I THINK HE COULD PLAY ANOTHER YEAR, BUT IF THIS IS WHAT HE REALLY WANTS THEN WE HAVE TO RESPECT IT.AND YOU ARE RIGHT ARMANDO IT LEAVES ANOTHER HOLE WE NEED TO FILL, MISI JUST AIN'T CUTTING IT. JASON HAD A GOOD YEAR FOR SOMEONE IS AGE , HE WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE DOLPHINS OF ALL TIME HIM AND ZACH WERE AWESOME THEY PLAYED THE GAME THE WAY IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED THEY NEVER DOGGED IT OR BLAMED ANYONE ELSE.

boring!

WHY BAN ODIN HATE ODIN?
(BUFFET OF QUESTIONS)

Thanks Jason, Sundays will be harder to watch.

Welcome go the JT show....that's 3 blogs in a row.....will Armando go for 4.....

Who's Jason Taylor?

Armando's having a lesbian affair with JT.

I love JT...but I love a franchise QB more...we have had 17 QB's since marino and all because we ALWAYS go back to the imbecilick thinking that says you can win without a FRANCHISE QB....for the record...YOU CANT..!

NO...it is NOT A TEAM GAME...its about the QB stupid...the QB...!!!!!!!!!!

Look at the Superbowl winners in the last 20 odd years...each winner had a TOP 3 QB for that year...everyone except Trent Dilfer who incidently had a fine year that year...hes is the EXCEPTION.....other than that...read this guys....

YOU CANNOT WIN A SUPERBOWL without a Franchise top 3 QB....cant be done...wont be done...so its not good enough even to have a TOP 10 QB...you need a top 3 QB....thats it....this year itl be either Brees, Rodgers, Rothlisberger...or Brady...all ELIIIIIIITE...!!!

So can you all PlEASE stop banagin on about the Oline...faaaaaaark ...40 years of sorrow and your still on the same line...whats wrong with you all..?????

Its NOT the line....its ALL about the QB....

Sell the farm...GET LUCK or RG3....

And keep trying till you land a TOP3 guy...

In fact my 1st pick EVERY single year would be the best available QB on the board at the time...every year till I strike paydirt..

Wake up please.

Merry Christmas Kris, Odin, Aloco, Daryl D, Inimounts,Mark in Toronto, NYPhinfan...CraigM..Scott frm Delawrae...Yesterday..Beerphin..etc..all the guys...lets hope we dont have further madness in the draft....no more Linemen.....lets get our QB for the next 10 years please.

LOOK FOR THE GARAGE MACHANIC TO DRAFT A LINEMAN FOLLOWED BY A PUNT RETURNER.
(BUFFET OF HOPELESSNESS)

JT thanks for giving me a lot of HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY moments. You were my favorite pass rusher since Bill Stan-fill whose career was cut way too early because of injuries. Hope you go out with multiple sacks and hits on the alleged "SANCHISE". You are a Dolphin legend and one cool cat.

As a lifelong dolphin fan i always thought of Taylor as one of the greatest dolphins ever, well up until he signed with the team that plays second banana to the giants but anyway good luck JT it was fun watching you but the stench of you playing for that team can't ever wash off

good luck JT and please sack sanchez a couple of times as your parting gift to the phin fans everywhere.

BigAlfy,

Merry Christmas, bud. We've missed you on here. Here's to a better year next year and hopefully that top tier QB you are talking about. I'm with you....sell the farm.

THE GREATEST DEFENDER IN THE HISTORY OF THE MIAMI DOLPHINS!!!! # 99 JASON TAYLOR

The greatest defender in Phins history!! What are you 12 years old

Thx JT for the memories. On behalf of all Miami Dolphins fans around the world. I like to apologize for squandering your efforts and talents on mediocre teams.Led by back-up qbs, fiedler, henne, feely and ready for retirement Trent Green.Sorry bud! Love you man.

Oh yeah, don't forget erickson and who else? Somebody help out please?Oh yeah.HOW can I forget that bum named culpepper.

Maybe Sanchez will let JT pound him three more times into the ground so he can pass Strahan...C'mon Rex, kill two birds with one rock. Sanchez is a terrible quarterback and you obviously like Taylor?

After 3 full seasons as starter,Sanchez should have already shown more. The jests have been loaded, sorry, the jets have had talent to due more.

ozkar,

Sancheez had an ALL WORLD supporting cast and never got it done. Your post is short, simple and very to the point regarding Carson Palmer's Mexican maid's son.

What... Tony Romo?!. Nah,I don't beleive it!

Going further in-Depth?

Sorry Mando, withut a strap on I think you're out of luck.

Seriously, I have never seen a sportwriter go so haywire over an athlete.

You're like a poor man's Howard Cossell swinging off Ali's nads. Do yourself a favor, take a deep breath and give it a rest.

Hat tip to #99 for his many great moments woven on the NFL canvas.

I hope he does make the H.oF. as when ANY Fin gets in, it makes the franchise that much more desirable. That is desirable from a past history standpoint as well as tradition. The ability to display individual excellence maintained over a sizable time period defines JT.

As his teamates have alluded...his presence will be missed.

Cheers,

The Fins must be VERY careful to scout the "right" QB and not just be thirsting for a QB so bad they take a stab at one just cause he's next on a list.

They need to make the draft bend to their will and get the QB(s) they take aim at.

My short list of franchise QBs would be... Luck and RGIII...period. I am NOT sold on Luck as most everyone else seems to be. I am not claiming bust but I have a sneaking suspicion he could be an average starter. I don't see the superhero he is made out to be even though he has high marks in a number of desirable categories.

Let's continue to watch the Bowl games, Combine, Private Workouts and Pro Days play out. My hunch is that Luck will look more human as the process plays out.

The QBs I would look at if I didn't get either of the big two... Wisconsin Badger QB Russell Wilson and Houston's QB Case Keenum. Both should be available later in the draft and both have nice skill sets.

I feel they need to take shots yearly until they find a long term QB answer.

For the record I feel Moore has earned his shot to be #1 going into 2012. He should have tons of competition and a fair (but REAL) QB competition.

Cheers,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well BigAlfy!

I don't blog as much as I used to but I can recall us having some great blog threads in which you had excellent posts.

Keep the faith and the Fins will turn it around sometime bro.

Cheers,

ROB.........

I WOKE UP EARLY AND I AM READING YOUR POST @ 3;25 AM.........

EVERY TIME I READ (( HIS PRESENCE WILL BE MISSED )) ....I ASK MY SELF ,IN WHAT WAY WILL BE MISSED ???????

WE STARTED 0-7 .... YEAS HE WILL BE (( MISSED )).......

Rob in OC @ 3;45
Agreed, although I doubt we will bend the draft the way we want unless we give up the farm for the next 4yrs. In that case I dont think its worth it. I agree on Luck, a lot of positives, however there have been some legit negatives written also. He does not play the competition some of the other QBs face is one, another he has rarely needed to use his arm to win games, and he plays behind the best OL in college, his entire career.I find those last 3 interesting.

Tom Brady was not a top 3 QB coming in the pros, for that matter niether was Brees. Rothlisberger was a 1st round pick (11th) and was considered a franchise QB from the start. Tom Brady and Brees became top 3 QB's once upon a time Brady was 3rd or 4th string on the Pats QB chart. Just thought i would toss that out there. KILL ME!! lol

Europe.....

He said top 3 THAT YEAR......meaning the YEAR they won the SB.....

Not just whatever definition your trying to twist top 3 into......

I have no idea wether Bigafly is right or not about those QBs in those years being top 3....

BUT...

I do know this.....in almost evey year that a team won a SB.....they QB played lights out for that year.....even Rob Johnson on Tampa bay that year.....

I'll tell you another thing I know....over the past 20 years....it's something like 64% of all SB winning QBs are 1st round QBs.....pretty good odds right....take Tom Brady and his 3 SBs out of the equation....and imagine what the percentage is then......

Were talking odds here Europe.....not science fact.....

Just thought I would throw that out there as well.....

Also Europe....

I respond back to you in that post that started off rather rude yesterday...you know....the one when you told me I shouldn't post here any more.....if you havent read it....you should.....

If you have read it....you should acknowledge it......

Bigafly.....

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well.......

Its been a while since I have had the pleasure of reading a Bigafly post.....

As usual...your reflect my way of thinking almost to a tee....I guess that's why I like them so much....

I have to admit.....I'm not in love with any of these QBs from the draft.....I will have to see RG3 @ the combine.....I'm pretty sure Luck will not attend.....

I have my favorite.....but he is riding pine in NE....plus he stirs up a hornets nest every time I mention his name....so I won't mention his name....

Mallet....

PEACE JT.

YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A DOLPHIN GREAT.

Odin @ 1:27am.......loved the post.....

ARMANDO:

GREAT STORY. IT'S GOOD TO SEE YOU GIVE CREDIT WHEN IT'S A NO BRAINER.

EVEN A CHEATERS TEAM LIKE THE PATRIOTS SPORTS WRITER CAN SEE HOW GREAT JT WAS.

TOO BAD SOME OF OUR OWN "SO CALLED FANS" CAN'T.

QB QB QB.

MOST OF YOU PEOPLE ARE JUST LOOKING FOR A FACE TO FALL IN LOVE WITH.

BRING BACK CHAD. DRAFT THE LT FROM USC GET RID OF COLOMBO OR MAKE HIM A BACK UP.

WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE PICKED MISI OR ODRICK. ODRICK DID GREAT FOR HIS FIRST YEAR BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE TO GET HIM.

YOU CAN'T SAY WE NEED A RUSHING OUTSIDE LINEBACKER YET WE DON'T KNOW WHAT SYSETEM THE NEXT COACH WILL EMPLOY.

WE HAVE THE PERSONAL OF A GREAT 4-3.

GRUDEN- 4-3
FISHER-4-3
DUNGY-TAMPA 2, 4 D-LINEMEN
COWER- 3-4 BUT THE D WAS IN PLACE BEFOER HE EVEN GOT THERE.

SO WE MUST FIRST SEE WHO THE COACH IS BEFORE WE TALK ABOUT WHAT WE NEED AS FAR AS THE LINEBACKERS ARE CONCERNED.

DRAFT PICKS I WANTED.

VONTAE DAVIS
JAKE LONG
SEAN SMITH
DEZ BRYANT
JULIO JONES
JIMMY GRAHAM
CHAD HENNE
MARIO MANNIGHAM
RASHAD JONES
SERGIO KINDLE
ARRON HERNADEZ
TAYLOR MAYS

NOT BAD PICKS HERE.

I to believe we need a QB but at what cost. I hate to sell the farm and get a QB that can not handle the NFL there have been more bust at QB than there has been Francize QB Luck might become a bust never know but believe this team does need to take a shoot. I would like to move up and get luke but the only way i see that a possiblity is that we loss this last game and a few teams below us win and we get in the top five. I can never wish for miami to loss to jets(never) even if meaningless game or not.

We have the personel for a great 4-3?

OK....................

What would the line up look like?

You can make anything look great on paper, but realistically speaking, I would be a little concerned with the linebackers.

Moving forward The Dolphins need to address the LB position in the draft. Taylor had seven sacks as a reserve player. How many did Misi have as the regular? Another Parcells mistake that the Dolphins have to correct for the future. The Dolphins should be looking to draft a young Jason Taylor, someone with his quikness and not the big slow mold that Parcells drafts. (Misi)

Oh yeah, Bigafly!

Happy Holidays to you as well.

Kris, i think I did aknowledge your other post. I did leave a comment..lol

HAPPY NEW REAR TO THE GREAT AND THE INDEPENDENT MINDED PEOPLE;;;;;;

BIGALFY
ROB
ODIN
KRIS
DD

Pro,

Agreed. I swear it looked like Parcells was trying to resurrect the Giants of a bygone era.

Misi is starting to look like a classic tweener. To small at end, to slow at backer.

Not bad for a depth guy, but a second rounder?

Happy new Rears to you too Aloco ;)

ODIN....

ARMANDO SAID THAT JT WILL LEAVE (( A BIG HOLE TO FILL )).........

WHAT HOLE ? OUTSIDE LINEBACKER ?

I THOUGHT THAT HOLE WAS HERE SINCE WE STARTED THE YEAR W/ 0-7...............

ODIN....YEAR ,,,,,,,,,, BUSY TRYING TO GET READY FOR WORK .........

FURTHER IN DEPTH ....... I AM ME ....

I got a qualifier in regards to Justin's comment earlier.

I always loved JT, **In AQUA and ORANGE** PERIOD.

My comments were directed DIRECTLY at Armando.

Just for the record, I might be the first to say it. I WISH HE WOULD STAY ONE MORE YEAR.

I don't want Aloco to call me "Shameless", so that's all I'll say about it :)

ODIN,

IT'S OUR JOB TO ALERT ARMANDO WHEN HE GOES TOO FAR IN PRAISING A PLAYER TO A POINT IS DUMB......MARINO IS THE BEST FIN PLAYER EVER ,NOT JT...I LOVE THE GUY BUT BE REAL ..........

1-15
0-7

ODIN HAS INTEGRITY ...........

Thanks Aloco.

Happy New Year to you My Friend.

FURTHER IN DEPTH.......I AM GOING TO WORK ........LATER

I can't help reflecting back over the so called Parcells era here. Most everybody was pumped up. We had hope. Only to get more of the same old, same old.

I still remember the day. I was on I-75 coming into the South side of Cincinati, trying to get back to Detroit. I heard the news about Shula on the radio. Honestly and with all sincerity, MY LIFE CHANGED THAT DAY!

I wasn't around when Kennedy got it, but I knew. INSTANTLY, I knew how those people felt.

I know I'm babbling(It's what I do), but get ready people. It's time for ANOTHER regime change.

Every time, they name a new Coach, I mix a little Bourban into the Kool Aid and Jump on the Bandwagon. I pretend like I don't have a lick of sense and proceed to tell you **THIS IS THE YEAR**

It's getting old and so am I. It's gets a little tougher each and everytime.

I don't know about anyone else, but I miss Don Shula more than EVER!
