NFL truths escape the Dolphins

FOXBORO, Mass. -- The NFL regular season is 16 games long. It begins the second week of September and ends the final weekend of December. An NFL game lasts four quarters. That's 60 minutes of football.

I write this hoping the Dolphins read it, as many are wont to do, and learn the truth about the NFL because they are apparently not aware.

I write this hoping this organization figures out that playing well starting in November isn't good enough. I write this hoping this team realizes you cannot shut out the New England Patriots 17-0 in the first half and expect that will be good enough in the second half.

The Dolphins, a team that began the season 0-7, played well again at times Sunday. They indeed had that 17-0 lead against the Patriots and Gillette Stadium was shockingly quiet. But the Patriots got to play in the second half. And they put 27 points up to beat the Dolphins.

"In those first four or five minutes of the second half, the momentum shifted to their side and that’s not good, especially with the group of guys over there – coaches and players," receiver Brandon Marshall said. "When you have a team down, you have to put them away so you have to learn and grow and have that be part of he building blocks for next year."

The frustrating thing?

During their little runs, the Dolphins show glimpses of being good.

Today they had Brady running for his life, sacking him three times in the first half. Brady had a 51.9 passer rating in the first half. Today, Matt Moore looked great in the first half. His passer rating was 120.3.

But the game wasn't over!

And apparently the Dolphins didn't realize it.

The Patriots adjusted and suddenly there was no pressure on Brady. Suddenly, Moore was a turnover machine, throwing an interception and fumbling once -- with both turnovers leading to TDs.

This game ends the Todd Bowles experiment. His team showed the same inconsistencies under him as under Tony Sparano. They started fast but couldn't finish.

The Dolphins need to add someone that changes the culture. They need to hire someone with an alarm clock that signals the start and ending of a season as well as the start and end of games.

Seasons run 16 games. Games go four quarters.

Well........it's going to be a Looooooooooooong off season. Not as bad as last year though. On the bright side, it should be intetresting with all the changes that are likely to take place.

The jets playoffs start next Sunday and we might as well consider it our Super Bowl. As much as people would like us to lose for the draft spot, I don't think it happens. I'm predicting we lay an a ss whipping on the wets for a strong finish.

The win actually won't change our pick much. We're picking 8th right now, we could win and still pick 8th, 9th ot 10th.

With a loss and some "help" we could move up to 6th at best.

Please try to remember that the male blow up dolls are not designed for rear entry. We are considering a new gay doll for next year, but the current male dolls that you have purchased are not recommended for that type of activity.

Happy Holidays

Good teams like Pats have the same system in place over a decade. They make adjustments at halftime and fix what was going wrong. If majority of fans have they're way and clean house every three or four yrs the Fins will have no continuity and never be a legit contender. NE,PIT, and GB have had same system for a long time and that's why they have been elite. The Fins have a base of young players that are only going to get better. They do need to get one of the two top QBs in the draft but last yr was the worst possible yr to do so. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water, keep OC,DC and yes Ireland. If you keep cleaning house you will never move forward. MM is way better than Henne or any post Marino The Great QB!

I've been a really harsh critic of the Dolphins the whole year. I'm glad that Sparano was kicked out. I didn't see much of the games this season, though (too much depressing). However, I saw quite a lot of the game against the infamous Patriots. I must say that despite the defeat (I knew the Dolphins were to loose, even when they were leading 17-0), for the first time in a long long time I enjoyed watching this team again.
Yes, certainly Bowles lost the audition, but I liked many of the calls.

The playing of this team is so random, that it's difficult to say where to start the rebuilding (aside the QB) next year. I think Ross should negociate with the Rams (in case they have the 1st pick overall in 2012 draft) to move onto 1st place in order to pick Luck. I think Moore has played decently enough to deserve a chance for the first games next season. In case he performed bad, Luck (if a Dolphin) could immediately replace him. Othewise, Luck would have enough time to learn about the NFL.
Next, another star receiver would be welcomed as well as a good safety. Of course Colombo should be replaced, but don't spend a good round for a OL, not worth it.
About the head coach, difficult to say who would be the best for the Dolphins. So far, no head coach has repeated a SB win with two different teams (I guess), so this cabalistic trend might damm the Dolphins if a "star" HC decides to take the job.
So, it will be an interesting off season for the Dolphins....again. I hope this time Santa Claus give the Dolphins a good QB as a draft pick. In the mean time, I wish the Dolphins kick Jets ass next Sunday. That would be perhaps a heavenly signal for the future in this organization.

Hockey is the only real sport left where the ahletes actually earn their money and the players all hustle all the time with no players taking plays off, oh yeah and by the way their almost all white go figure lol happy holidays go rangers!!!

GREAT ARTICLE! MANAGEMENT STILL NUMBER ONE CONCERN EVEN BEFORE GETTING A FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK!!! GO MIAMI! ROSS, PUT UP OR GET OUT OF MIAMI!

Moore has proven he cannot beat good teams in the NFL, he does not handle pressure well. Miami did good in the 1st half with pressure with blitzes from DB's. NE went to the spread so Miami would have to do it with the line and linebackers and they could not get sufficient pressure.

Bowles, poor clock management at the end of the game and idiot decision to give Brady the ball back with less than 2 mins left. Miami had not stopped him all 2nd half. We need an aggressive HC, this guy has Sparano stink all over him!

Yeah get a Coach, but NO RETREADS!

Thank god they lost the game, I hope they shut it down in the 2nd half. What does winning this game accomplish, no reason to win anymore games and watch our draft position tumble.

It seems we have a problem. How can we cut the second half Dolphins and keep the first half Dolphins or keep the first 3 quarters Dolphins and cut the fourth quarter Dolphins. Do the math and it doesn't add up. Where is my dog, I need to kick something.

It can't be said enough: Remember 16 years ago when a lot of people couldn't wait for Don Shula to retire because they thought he was too old? Well, how have they done since? Let's see: 6 playoff appearances in which they're 3-6 and a losing record overall in the regular season.

Played to hang on in the lead in the 2nd half. Did not play to win. Pats adjusted, we didn't.
Why would we play it safe at this point? Let it loose, go all out. what the heck is there to lose.
Get rid of Marshall. Inconsistent. Put him in the trade up for Luck or RG3. Throw in the "best 2 safety's or DB's" in the league.
Go all out for a franchise QB. This is the chance, don't blow it. Surprise us MR. ROSS!!
Get the right HC and QB and you will sell out the stadium. What is there to watch this year?

IMO Cower is a man of his word - if he says he is not coaching again than he's not coaching again. Suppose he did come back next year and reality struck with the long hours and stress involved - he cuts and runs. Cower is not going to coach the Miami Dolphins or any other team next year so please lets get off that broken record. Yes we need a franchise QB but will the brain trust be willing to wheel and deal to get one? If Manning returns next year to training camp he plays for the Colts, they do not want to let him go unless he is physically unable to play. So please with Manning oiy vey. This team will be a better team next year with some key additions and some key firings. There are some holes to fill for sure but Ross wants a winning team and seems determined to see that through. I am sure he has plenty of help.
