Reggie Bush is out on Sunday; Daniel Thomas time

Dolphins coach Todd Bowles just told the media that running back Reggie Bush will not play against the New York Jets Sunday as his ailing right knee will prevent him from playing.

It'll be Daniel Thomas carrying the load, such as it is, for the Dolphins running game. The Dolphins can also use Lex Hilliard behind Thomas to help carry the load and Richard Medlin may be available after being signed off the practice squad earlier this week.

Bush finishes his season with 1,086 yards on 216 carries. He played and started in each of the previous 15 games this season.

And while this knee issues won't be considered a big deal now, because the Dolphins are out of the playoff running and the season ends for them Sunday, it raises questions going forward.

This was Bush's sixth NFL season. He has played in 16 games only once in his career, that in his rookie year.

The Dolphins insist they found a workhorse starting running back this year, one that could run between the tackles, take the pounding and, frankly, be the man.

With Bush going through the season healthy, that argument was a winner. Now, with his knee injury a question, that changes.

What if the Dolphins were a playoff team? Another year in which Bush got hurt, again, would be huge news and a huge disappointment. So can they go into next year with Bush as their planned workhorse again?

In 3 years the only player from last draft on the team will be Pouncey. maybe Wilson.

cant wait till monday to start turning this thing around

I'm predicting we have a new coach named within 7 days after Sunday. I have to believe they knew 11 months ago they would replace Sparano this year and have one or two candidates already marked. Does anybody really believe they've waited until now to start their search? The rest is just for show to please the league.

well devils they will have to interview a minority first. i hope your right but i dont think it will be that soon

You people are a bunch of constipated mental midgets.

Here are the rules for interviewing during the season:

Teams may not interview assistants from another team for either a lateral move or a head coaching opportunity during the season. The lone exception to this rule comes when teams want to interview assistants for head coaching jobs while the current team is in the playoffs. As there is an urgency to hire new head coaches for some non-playoff teams, the NFL does allow teams to request permission to interview a postseason participant's assistants during the wild card week for teams who have the bye that week. They can also request permission to do so during the first week of Super Bowl preparations as long as there is a two-week break between the conference championships and the Super Bowl. The team only has one chance to talk to the assistant coach, once permission is granted, before the coach's team is eliminated from the playoffs.

They will interview Bowles Monday or Tuesday. Rooney Rule will be satisfied fast.

Of course, those rules do not apply to coaches coming out of retirement or college coaches.

so who u think it is devils

No idea dusty. Nobody would surprise me. After last years end, and the 0-7 start, no way I can believe they just started their search. They've been working behind the scenes. This is big business.

I hope its someone I never heard of. Too many good people out there to stick with the same few names over and over.

All of our problems can be summed up in 3 words. Jeff Ireland sucks!

The Miami game is live on TV here in England on Sunday..hurray for once.
I'd prefer the Dolphins to win this one more than anything else.If it means moving down the draft a couple of places then so be it.I just want to see them BEAT the Jets.

Here is my prediction for the Dolphins draft by round #1 - Offensive Lineman #3 - Defensive Lineman #4 - Defensive Back #5 - Running Back

Here is my prediction for the Dolphins draft by round
#1 - Offensive Lineman
#3 - Defensive Lineman
#4 - Defensive Back
#5 - Running Back

Agreed with Dumpy Drawers

I hate the Jets, but we need to lose this game.

If we can draft a JETS nemesis, the loss will be worth it.

I just had a nightmare, I dreamed we drafted a running back in the first round.

Oh wait, we drafted RG3, who will run for his life pretending to be a quarterback.

No matter what happens...we need to take a long term view:

This is the RULE: You draft QB as high as you can EVERY YEAR until you find a TOP3 franchise QB....nothing else matters....you simply WILL NOT win a superbowl without that guy....its a no brainer...!

So this year our 1st pick should be a QB...the best available ...trade up or not...the best we can get..if that pick doesnt work out...next year we REPEAT the process...then again and again and again...every year...

Only when you have an Aaron Rodgers or a Big Ben or a Drew Brees....then you perfect everything else....

We have been solidifying lines for 40 years with NO RESULT...Nil...nada...change tack

Its the QB stupid...its not a team game at all...best QB wins...simple

Biga

Can't waste the first pick on a QB every year no way. They have to be worth where you are drafting them.

You need good players, its a team game. Brady would not have won dinkle on this team. His team makes him great.

Don't waste picks on qb's not worth jack.

I don't believe that for a second. I'm not saying Miami doesn't need a quarterback but people act like it is the be all and end all of the problems of this franchise. Give Drew Brees Brandon Marshall, Davone Bess and Brian Hartline and Clyde Gates and see if he breaks Dan Marino's record. Not going to happen.
They still need a solid #2 wide receiver and a solid slot receiver. Don't tell me that Davone Bess is one of the best slot receivers in the game and don't tell me that Brian Hartline is underused. Hartline is in his third season. He would be great to have in a 4 wide set but not as the #2 to Marshall.
They still need at least one solid tight end and two starting caliber offensive linemen, a pass rushing linebacker, strong safety, free safety and cornerback.
The teams needs aren't going to be met by drafting one player. So, if they sell the house to move up and mortgage their future who is the talent they will surround that quarterback with?

Clyde Gates is a developmental type player you bring in at a position where you have the luxury of bringing him along slowly and letting him learn the system, develop his route running and gaining experience.
The Dolphins don't have a solid enough wide receiver corps to spend time on a developmental wide receiver.
The only place they may have somewhat of a luxury to develop a player at this time would be the d-line.

So I guess you suggest we start next season with Matt Moore and resign Chad Henne, Professor?
Looks alot like another 5-11 or 6-10 season but what do I know following fins since '68 and seeing Bob, Dan and a real franchise.

Get real man. This team is going in rebuild mode once again. Back to square one. Forget about playoffs for another 3 years. Too many changes coming.

Looking for a suggestion of what we do about the QB situation, fins cannot continue to just exist.
Ross is a businessman not a billionaire just donating money. LA or another city may be calling if the fans do no come back.

Chad Henne, under Dan Henning, had this team close to 500 back to back seasons.

We're ALREADY a lot better than those two teams.

Two Great moves or Three really good ones and these guys are knocking on the door.

WHAT EVERY ONE MISSING WHILE TALKING THE SAME WAY AS LAST 12 YEARS ABOUT THE DRAFT AND ALL THE CRAB .WE WILL NEVER BE A GOOD TEAM FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS AT LEAST ...............

(( FURTHER IN DEPTH ))......

IS THAT ENGLISH ????

Are you saying we should draft a Crab?

I didn't know you could draft them. I thought you had to "Catch" them.

We will never be a good team until we invest or do whatever it takes to get another franchise QB. A lot of the existing holes can be filled through FA if we had a "stud" QB and it is time to make the move.

ODIN........CRAP ..........I AM TIRED OF TALKING DRAFT ......

If you extrapolate Matt Moore's numbers RIGHT NOW, we'd be qualifying for the playoffs.

Food For Thought

Facts For Desert

ALoco,

I'm with you brother. It's even worse this year. All kinds of crazy talk about QUARTERBACK-QUARTERBACK-QUARTERBACK!

Imean, It's not like we won't have the next 4 months to go over it and over it. We do have more than just one whole to fill.

I hate to be the voice of doom, but it looks to me like Luck and RGIII will be out of reach for us. At this point I can't see any scenario in which we'll have a shot at either one.

It sucks, but IT IS what IT IS!

No disrespect to Matt or Chad but we have seen this before over and over.
It all depends if you want to make the playoffs once or you want to be competitive and win more than you lose for a decade or more.

Jets catch another break. God, I hate that team.

ODIN,

SPARANO DESTROYED THE FUTURE WITH HIM WINNING FEW GAMES THAT CAUSED US TO DROP (( FURTHER IN DEPTH )) IN THE DRAFT ..........

THAT'S WHY HE WAS FIRED AND GET A LOUSY REPLACEMENT BUT THEN WE WON AGAIN .

MONEYMAN13.....

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING THE WORD (( STUD )),PLEASE .......

Question for those of you who seem to understand much more about the fins than I do - previous post showed mock draft in this blog with Rd 1, 3, 4, and 5. The last info that I read stated fins gave up a 4 th for Bush. Am I missing something?

THERE'S NO STUD PLAYERS NO MORE,THEY R ALL BUSINESS MEN ............

Aloco,
Sorry, it is a term of endearment amongst most athletes, at least among the old ones.

MoneyMan,

No disrespect to anyone.

I *WANT* to make the playoffs. I *WANT* to be competitive. The problem is, HOW?

Barring some kind of blockbuster trade up, what's the REAL PLAN?

We got Ross and Ireland calling the shots. We will add a new Coach and maybe even Peterson. Somehow, I just don't see this group giving up what it's going to take to land Luck or Griffen.

To further complicate things, I don't see them reaching for any of the others. Then, even if they did, NONE of the "OTHERS" will be ready to start next season. Luck could probably start and MAYBE Griffen. After that, all you have left are possibles and prospects.

I just don't see Ross bringing in a Czar type and new Coaching staff, only to instantly mortgage theirs and the teams future right off jump.

I know it sucks, no 1st round QB in three decades and all the rest. But realistically speaking, the options at QB are extremely limited. I'm afraid RGIII and Luck are just pipe dreams at this point.

The Voice Of Doom Has SPOKEN!!!!

WHAT IF LUCK WILL BE THE BUST OF THIS DRAFT .........

I FEEL ANDY DALTON IS A BETTER QB THAN LUCK ......

(( FURTHER IN DEPTH ))........
IS THAT ENGLISH ???

Luck = Matt Ryan, just ok. Ireland should have taken Dalton or Mallet. Now we are stuck another year with nothing.

Thomas will run for 51 yards Sunday. Big deal.

WHAT IF LUCK WILL BE THE BUST OF THIS DRAFT .........

That's what I'm talking about ALoco.

I know you can't know for sure about a guy until you see him do it. So, sometimes you have to throw caution to the wind and just pull the trigger.

But it's like Craig(I think)pointed out earlier. There a fine line between being aggressive and being foolish.

If we could take a chance on some of these guys if their there when we pick, that's one thing. But, giving up a Ditka like trade up deal and then finding out Luck and Griffen are the next Leaf and Akili? No thanks.

I don't know what will happen. I just don't see Ross, Ireland or even Peterson pulling the trigger on a deal like that.

Beasides, Luck and Griffen are definitely the top two prospects, but in all reality, NEITHER have shown anything in the slightest that would indicate either are "Can't Miss" propositions.

It's easy for us to sit back and say this or that and criticize. It's a lillte different when your Millions and Million dollar careers are on the line.

It's not that I don't want Luck or Griffen. I'm just saying, I don't see either happening here in Miami under any scenarios or circumstances.

SORRY..........................

Second try.
Odin,
Agree with you about Ireland but believe Ross purchased the team to make money not lose or give away.
Believe new HC will have more to say than most and 1st item of business will be good bye to Ireland after draft and just use whatever knowledge he has.
Also believe there is more than 1way to skin a cat to at least upgrade QB position.

Next coach will be a disappointment.

QB situation will be a disappointment.

2012 will be a disappointment.

2013 will be a disappointment.

2014 will be a disappointemnt.

2015 WE ARE GOING TO ROCK! YEYEAAHHHHHH!

Hey Claire,
Note from one who found out the hard way, copying sometimes can be big mistake when copying incorrectly spelled words.
Thanks anyway for the insight, will allow me to sleep more in the next four years.

Huh? Say wha? Copy? :-|

Odin,
Whether I really like Peterson or not, think he is the wild card in this new situation. If he is involved, the QB issue changes based on his past IMHO.
2-3 QBs, 3-4 TEs and at least 5 OLs that would be an upgrade or appear to be available in FA and could change the entire picture. Fins had about $12M in available unused cap add $5-7M from Soliai. We should be able to handle some holes.

Claire see 2014.

Anybody miss me?

That isn't copying mate. That is a typo. If it was copying they would all be the same. Duh.

Got it, Watson?

My mistake.
Negativity just pushes sometimes.
My problem, sorry.

Moneyman just use some sense next time you attack someone, use your brain....

Haha...thats a fake at 9:43. What a blog.

Have fun folks.

Remember...2015.

If I had one, do you ever say anything positive....just a question oh brilliant one.
