Dolphins coach Todd Bowles just told the media that running back Reggie Bush will not play against the New York Jets Sunday as his ailing right knee will prevent him from playing.
It'll be Daniel Thomas carrying the load, such as it is, for the Dolphins running game. The Dolphins can also use Lex Hilliard behind Thomas to help carry the load and Richard Medlin may be available after being signed off the practice squad earlier this week.
Bush finishes his season with 1,086 yards on 216 carries. He played and started in each of the previous 15 games this season.
And while this knee issues won't be considered a big deal now, because the Dolphins are out of the playoff running and the season ends for them Sunday, it raises questions going forward.
This was Bush's sixth NFL season. He has played in 16 games only once in his career, that in his rookie year.
The Dolphins insist they found a workhorse starting running back this year, one that could run between the tackles, take the pounding and, frankly, be the man.
With Bush going through the season healthy, that argument was a winner. Now, with his knee injury a question, that changes.
What if the Dolphins were a playoff team? Another year in which Bush got hurt, again, would be huge news and a huge disappointment. So can they go into next year with Bush as their planned workhorse again?

No one will have to worry about my comments in the future.
Will not be returning, do not appreciate fakes and being called gay.

Thanks again, appears to not be my cup of tea.

We shouldn't berate Our fellow Miami Dolphins fan.
I for one seek out blogs of or for the Miami Dolphins to chat about them and to know more of them. Some fans are out there.Others are bias. And some just want to cheer for a worthy team.
We're losing fans cause We suck. Now isn't the time to alienate each other,
Posted by: ozkar | December 30, 2011 at 11:06 PM
Oh yeah on Bush sitting out and Daniel Thomas playing.I hope that when Our franchise said that then had found a rb who will run between the tackles they were referring to Thomas.
Once again my beloved franchise has put another human being on their welfare payroll.Reggie isn't the answer.Wasn't intended to be.Our beloved franchise just wanted to attract certain fans to the team and stadiums.Bush is just cashing his checks, a la Armando Salguero.I get that. Now I'll know whose ratings to fatten.
Posted by: ozkar | December 30, 2011 at 11:19 PM
smart move, rest everyone, ota start in a few months, no reason to injure our star players, remember long ?????
Posted by: bla | December 30, 2011 at 11:23 PM
yeah bla.You get it.Though I would argue that perhaps We've been in that frame of mind since the NFL and the players reach their agreement for next 10 yrs.
Posted by: ozkar | December 30, 2011 at 11:28 PM
OK,
Landry Jones fans... We don't want him. RG# fans. Only if we get him cheep.
Luck fans. Our only hope, break the bank and trade the farm for Luck.
He IS that good.
After watching the other two and Luck, there IS no comparison. RG3 and L. Jones need to remain in another year.
This is going to be a boring draft in 12.
Posted by: NY "G" | December 31, 2011 at 12:41 AM
ozkar,
I have a jacuzzi in my private quarters onboard my ship and would love to further discuss with you the alienation you speak of regarding some. We can use aroma therapy candles while I stroke, um I mean massage your back.
Posted by: Capt. Blaine Diggler U.S. Navy | December 31, 2011 at 12:41 AM
Ditka sold the farm for Heisman trophy winner Ricky Williams. We all know the story.
It didn't turn out to good for Ditka, but Williams was arguably worth the trade.
Does anyone here really believe Ireland, or possibly(any new coach)Peterson will be willing to go down that path?
Forget about Luck and Griffen. You're only dragging out the misery. We'll trade down and pick up second. Take a DE/OLB, a RT and a Safety first two rounds.
Book It!!!!
Posted by: odinseye | December 31, 2011 at 02:07 AM
If Mark Sancheeto can take the wets to two back to back AFC Championship games, I say Moore can do better.
Hire the right Coach with the right scheme. Fill in the blanks with the draft and free agency.
We don't have to mortgage the next decade when we already have a guy that can get the job done. At least not this year.
All things considered, the Coaching hire will most likely prove more beneficial than this draft anyways.
Stay The Course.
ValHalla!!!!

Thanks to years of Henne(among others), Hennings and SpOrano, too many DolFans have gotten carried away with the desire to draft a first round quarterback.
Some here advocate trading the farm, some think Manning will be available. The funniest one yet, Trade the Farm for Mallet-ROTFLMAO! Yeah, Mallet-LOL!
Anyways, you don't put yourself behind the eight ball for anything less than a sure fire HIT!
If there's a solid prospect available when your pick comes along great. But, to sell the farm for the latest **FAD**?
C'mon Man!
NOT IN THE REAL WORLD!!!!
Posted by: odinseye | December 31, 2011 at 02:31 AM
Agree with Professor @ 7;14. Its the way it is. I can see moving up a spot or two in the draft. But to sell off the franchise for the next 4yrs is not just stupid, but insane. You have to have people around the QB. Remember Marino in Jacksonville? No OL, no WR, no defense equaled Marino getting beat to death..Staying in position, or even dropping a few spots in next years draft would not be the end of the world. We need a stud TE, WR, and yes RT..for the QB hungry, if we drop a few spots pick up another 2nd, Miami could actually pull in 2 QBs.

Thomas should be able to be a workhorse. He just needs to quit hesitating when he hits the hole!
Posted by: Peter G | December 31, 2011 at 08:42 AM
If you extrapolate Matt Moore's numbers RIGHT NOW, we'd be qualifying for the playoffs.
Food For Thought
Facts For Desert
Posted by: odinseye | December 30, 2011 at 07:59 PM
3862 yds, 18 td's 8 int's
total passing yards would put him in the top ten in the league but he would still have around 90 less pass attempts than anyone ahead of him in total passing yards. Romon threw 485 passes and Newton 492. Everyone else threw more than 500 times with Moore only having 393 attempts thru 15 games.
If you consider that he came in late and has only played 12 games to this point and he doesn't have the receivers and tight ends the caliber some of the other quarterbacks have to work with he really has not done a bad job.
Am I advocating Miami not pick up a quarterback in the draft? No.
Posted by: Professor Lou | December 31, 2011 at 09:44 AM
Moore has the 11th best quarterback rating.
His average yards per attempt are 13 best in the league, 17th in pass plays of 20 yards or more and 19th in pass plays of 40 yards or more.
However, he is 32nd in pass attempts per game.
Posted by: Professor Lou | December 31, 2011 at 09:55 AM
Landry Jones looked like a lost sheep last night. He better think hard about going back to school for his last year to work out the bugs.
Posted by: Professor Lou | December 31, 2011 at 09:57 AM
The Washington QB put up 438 yds and 4 TDs in the Alamo Bowl. RG3 wasn't even the top QB in the game.
That being said if he is there when we pick fine but we can't trade players for anybody because we have 7 players leaving in free agency. And 2 of the players leaving are starting RT & RG.
