These are three things I'm hearing:
General manager Jeff Ireland will remain in the GM role throughout the 2012 season, as I first reported two weeks ago, owner Stephen Ross confirmed during a press conference a day later, and everyone in the organization I've asked maintains as truth rather than temporary P.R.
Yes, there is a slight chance Ireland might not be around if, say, Bill Cowher changes his mind, wants to coach and is hired by the Dolphins. But sources insists the chances of that happening are slim to none. Thus Ireland's chances of getting bounced are slim to none.
So there's that.
I've also heard from good sources that on the business side, CEO Mike Dee is safe. The Dolphins had good business years in 2009 and 2010. This year has been a bomb. No, actually it has been a bomb dropped in a sewer. It''s been bad because no win, no sellout ... no sellout, no money ... no money, no good.
The Dolphins have conducted internal diagnostic studies, if you will, to gauge the performance of the organization's business side. Sources tell me these studies encouraged employees to openly rate their supervisors. And some nerves were frayed by this at certain levels. But, apparently, the very top of the organization's business side is expected to remain stable.
So there's that.
And finally, I'm hearing that owner Stephen Ross continues to seriously consider adding Carl Peterson to the Dolphins -- essentially transfering him over from his FanVision business to his greater, more valuable, more important business.
The NFL team.
But if Peterson isn't coming as the GM (thank God) because Ireland is that, and Peterson isn't coming as the CEO because Dee is that, what the heck role would Peterson fill?
Here's a purely speculative possibility based on the purely speculative whispers from within the organization: He'd come as the overseer of all things Dolphins.
He would come as club president over Ireland and Dee. He would be charged with presenting the Dolphins as one united organization under one umbrella rather than a divided organization that on the one hand plays football and on the other hand considers itself a business that happens to play football, as one internal memo last year maintained.
Peterson has done this before. His role with the Kansas City Chiefs was president, general manager and chief executive officer. So obviously he's got experience in all three. He obviously knows what all three jobs entail as his time in Kansas City spanned 20 seasons.
And he could come on board as a liaison between football operations and the business side -- working to unite the two sides of the franchise as owner Stephen Ross has been thinking about and wanting to do for several months.
So there's that.
Follow me on twitter.

Next years QBs will be Henne, Moore, and Devlin. Possibly a Matt Flynn or some other unproven QB could be signed but does it matter, we were all looking for a franchise guy right? Sorry to break it to ya guys but with Barkley out CG and Luck will be gone WAY before we pick. Ireland doesn't have the smarts to be able to trade up. There is no other qb worth taking in the top 15 therefore we will be drafting best available with the pick.
Bill Parcells and his outdated bigger is better and run first philosophy has ruined this team for years to come. I'm afraid we have absolutely nothing to look forward too. I'm so f***ing sick of rooting for this team!!!!!!!!!
Parcells should be held accountable but he tucked his tail between his legs and ran like the lying, pudgy, grey haired, limp di**ed, dry lipped, soul sucking, know nothing, piece of garbage he is! Hallelujah, Holy sh*t! Where's the Tylenol?

Cowher's not off the table until he public declines an official offer. The clock begin ticking on Cowher as soon as the final whistle blows to end the Jet game. Posted by:
Yesterday's Gone | December 22, 2011 at 05:35 PM
Does anybody think? How is Cowher going to decline an offer when he never goes on interviews? Publicaly the only thing he said is he plans to remain in TV in 2012, and he will reiterate that again if he needs to.
Some people wiil do anything to remain in denial!

NYG,
The idiots here grilled me for the mere mention of a Manning option. But the more you think about it the more sense it makes. We can instantly be in the conversation as one of the afc's 3-4 best teams with Manning aboard.
He instantly makes us a 2nd rd playoff calibre team in the very least. If the price for him isnt overly absorbent, we can still draft a 1st rd qb in 2013. Then he has at least 2yrs under Manning.

DD,
Too "blow" for Barkley, we must begin by signing Colts current starting qb Curtis Painter. LOL
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | December 22, 2011 at 05:42 PM
Everyone thinks Joe Robbie is some kind of god. You should know that he earned his living off the Dolphins and was a cheapskate and a fool. His lawyers begged him to come in and sign papers which would have kept the Dolphins in the Robbie family. They called him on nineteen different occasions and he found excuses not to come in. When he died the team went to his wife but she died too quickly to secure the team. Even then the kids could have put off their inheritances and kept the Dolphins in the family. They refused and Tim Robbie had to sell the team. When Czonka, Kiick and Warfield left for the other league, Joe Robbie made no attempt to keep them. Al Davis used money he earned from his anti-trust law suit to buy talent and won super bowls with the Raiders. Eddie DeBartolo did the same with the 49ers. Robbie wouldn't and didn't spend any money because he had none. He was lucky to get Don Shula and Dan Marino just as Tom Brady was a lucky pick for the pats.

Jinga,
Cowher was pretty poised to come here before Ross screwed it all the hell up. Then came the Harbaugh debacle and nevr firing Sparano thing.
Now Ross looks like a total jackass in Cowher's eyes. It would take one helluva lots of kissing and making up to do to make the pendulum swing back to the positive side. Including firing Ireland.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | December 22, 2011 at 05:47 PM
painter isnt the colts current starter. zero chance cowher comes here ever. id love the manning option but wont happen
Posted by: dusty bottoms | December 22, 2011 at 05:48 PM
yup they had chance at cowher but wouldnt fire ireland, now zero chance

Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | December 22, 2011 at 05:47 PM
That is based not on anything more than a rumor Ross tried to talk to Cowher and he didn't accept.
Show me one concrete thing that says Cowher was poised to come here. Hasn't it occurred to anybody Cowher has not interviewed for any of the last several openings? What do you really deduce from that? He is only waiting for the Miami job or he ain't coaching again?

dusty, lets remember this next year when the Dolphins re-sign Henne because they're not able to draft OR trade for another QB.
IMO right now Henne coming back has a better chance than the Dolphins magically landing a better qb in free agency. We will have to wait and see I guess. I say Henne will be back, you say no way he's gone.
Now we wait.
Posted by: Phins78 | December 22, 2011 at 05:55 PM
they have zero interest in resigning henne
Posted by: dusty bottoms | December 22, 2011 at 05:55 PM
Jinga,
If it was rumor, all the so fla news papers printed it. They all printed Ross wouldnt fire Ireland. Im not making this stuff up.
Trouble with some of these situations is neither parties admit things themselves and intentionally "leak" info into the press.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | December 22, 2011 at 05:57 PM
Jinga,
No doubt Cowher never interviewed. But I will believe discussions may have gone back and forth between the Dolphins and his agent to learn what it would take to get him here.

RG III has a very good head on his shoulders and will make a wise decision after he plays in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29th.
He is losing only two impact players in Ganaway and Wright. He will still have most of his receiving corps returning with includes Terrance Williams, Lanear Sampson,
Antwon Goodley and Tevan Reese.
Baylor's offensive line was composed mainly of freshmen and sophmores and they have a promising running back prospect in Jermichael Selders out of Texas.
So, Griffin would have a pretty good team to go back to should he wish to stay another year.
The only question would be, "what becomes of senior quarterback Nick Florence?" Florence would probably end up transferring to another school if RGIII returns.
That could be the deciding factor for RGIII. If he would interfere with Florence's opportunity to be the starter he may forgoe his final year.

Well, the private details we will never know. It does not seem logical that this clusterfck miami job is the one he has been holding out for. As far as I know he hasn't been interviewing for any hc position for several years now. So that doesn't sound like a guy too eager to coach again.
Posted by: Jinga | December 22, 2011 at 06:14 PM
NY G,
I think you're already gone but I'll leave a final comment. I know you despise Ireland and that's fine...you're not alone. I know a lot of fans feel the same way. To be honest 'the not having any balls stuff' and whatever else, I don't care about. Really I don't. You and disagree about him having no integrity....but that's fine. Guys got all worked up the Dez Bryant's Mom thing but to be honest he was doing his job. Something showed up that he didn't like and he was doing his due dilligence. I have no problem with that. I'd rather have that than a guy who is afraid to ask questions and is afraid to offend. Bryant doesn't like it, too bad. Go work in a drive thru. Team is going to hand a guy MILLIONS of dollars you'd bettered be prepared to answer some questions.
All I really care about from my GM is that he can evaluate talent. I don't care about any of the other stuff...it's frivolous. I don't think BB is the nicest guy in the world or has much of a personality but he knows how to coach. Ron Wolf? Don't know anything about the guy but he was a good talent evaluator and got results. That's what I want from my GM and I like that's an ex-scout. The other stuff I could care less about. Doesn't talk to the media or the fans?.....who cares!
OK man....have a good night.

Maaco Bowl toningt with Kellen Moore playing his final game.
Posted by: Professor Lou | December 22, 2011 at 06:41 PM
Moore is 6'1", 191 lbs. Drew Brees in 6'0", 209 lbs. All Moore did in college was win. Not saying he starts from day one but will be a quality backup in the beginning while he learns the ins and outs of the NFL.
Posted by: Professor Lou | December 22, 2011 at 06:45 PM
We can't afford to win another game now with Barkley staying in school. I'm ok with Landry Jones, but I'm not convinced the Fins will take him. Washington needs to win a game and we need to lose two. We've won way too many already.
Posted by: Jebediah | December 22, 2011 at 06:48 PM
dont want moore, not even a very good prospect. they have him going in the 5th
Posted by: dusty bottoms | December 22, 2011 at 06:49 PM
With Barkley out of the picture, the qb draft game is over for us. The only two qb's worth reaching up for are Luck and RG3, its not likely we will get either one even if Ireland wants to mortgage the farm for them.
Time to focus on plan B, whatever that is.
Posted by: Torro | December 22, 2011 at 06:52 PM
so sad torro, meaningless garbage wins killed us
Posted by: dusty bottoms | December 22, 2011 at 06:59 PM
phin 78, henne will not be there next year. tthey will let him go. he is not worth the 4 years they already wasted on him. they won't make that mistake again. if they do not get a qb in the draft then they will do it via fa.
Posted by: dolphin 77 | December 22, 2011 at 07:02 PM
wont let him go cause they dont have to, hes a free agent and long gone. he will hold a clipboard for some other team next year
Posted by: dusty bottoms | December 22, 2011 at 07:07 PM
Henne will end up in the CFL.
Posted by: Torro | December 22, 2011 at 07:18 PM
Taking into account how difficult it is to evaluate QB's, I believe Weeden fits our bill. He is good and seems to be NFL ready. So he's 28, Manning is 34, he might give us 6 or 7 years of good service.
Posted by: oscar canosa | December 22, 2011 at 07:29 PM
Why mess with anything but a top 3 QB, we don't need that. Stick with Moore and maybe an FA vet, lets not waste more draft picks on maybe qbs.
Posted by: Torro | December 22, 2011 at 07:48 PM
QB Kyle Boller UFA Oakland Raiders
QB Drew Brees UFA New Orleans
QB Jason Campbell UFA Oakland Raiders
QB Dennis Dixon UFA Pittsburgh
QB Trent Edwards UFA Oakland Raiders
QB A.J. Feeley UFA St. Louis Rams
QB Matt Flynn UFA Green Bay
QB Rex Grossman UFA Washington
QB Shaun Hill UFA Detroit Lions
QB Josh X. Johnson UFA Tampa Bay
QB Josh McCown UFA Chicago Bears
QB Luke McCown UFA Jacksonville
QB Brady Quinn UFA Denver Broncos
QB Chris Redman UFA Atlanta Falcons
QB Alex Smith UFA San Francisco
QB Drew Stanton UFA Detroit Lions
QB Charlie Whitehurst UFA Seattle
QB Vince Young UFA Philadelphia
That is our list to choose from when they don't re-sign Henne as many of you are predicting. Obviously Alex Smith, Jason Campbell, and Drew Brees are likely to be re-signed. The rest I wouldn't even give a second thought except Matt Flynn.
But Matt Flynn will be very highly sought after by many teams needing a franchise QB. And again, he is unproven for the most part.
Landry Jones hasn't even said if he will enter the draft or go back for his senior year.
And Indi isn't going to release Manning, the guy was a top 3 QB in the league before his neck thing. If he is healing as well as his doctors are saying there is no reason he won't be a top 3 qb for another 4 to 5 years in this league. The guy can play and is an icon in Indianapolis. Even if by some miracle Indi banks it all on unproven Luck there is no guarantee that Peyton doesn't retire.
So if Flynn goes to a team with more stability (I would), Peyton stays in Indi or retires, Landry stays in school (hell this kid isn't even worthy of a top 15 pick!), and Luck and CG3 are gone by the time we draft what is our next move?
Everyone is so quick to tell me I'm wrong about the team re-signing Henne for a year or two but no one really backs there opinions up with those things called facts. If we're going to debate something you need to come at me with more than 'he won't be here because he sucks'. Or because the Phins don't have interest. By the way, who in here has talked to the Michigan alum Ross to find out he has no interest in keeping his Michigan brother who he compared to Dan Marino? Anyone?
This is what makes me think the Dolphins may be FORCED to keep Henne.
That is of course unless someone sees a better solution?

Just keep matt moore for another year and shore up that porous defense. Don't draft a qb in the first round just to do it after luck and rg3 no one else is worthy of a top 105 pick.

Rich Eisen was interviewing Colts owner J.Irsay Jr. and his comments regarding P.Manning will probably be repeated till draft day.
On whether the Colts would draft a Q.B. in the next draft with the 1st pick if it's their's. He said, "I expect we will IF he is the best available" on P.Manning and his future he said he hopes Manning would want to be able to play with his twin sons in 10 years.(I took it for code that says, RETIRE!)All in all alot of double talk praising Manning's place in NFL history but very direct about what they plan as an Org. moving into the future.
On the Colts SUCKING FOR LUCK (Question was asked indirectly) He said his team was 8 Mil over the cap and they (Colts F.O.) feeling a great deal of loyalty to Manning gave him his salary extension this year and payed him 24 Mil. even though he didn't play, all in all it sounded like a guy who is looking to move on.
The Ball is in Manning's court whether he wants to play elsewhere or not next year and I believe IF given a clean bill of health will want to continue his career. This situation will lend itself to HIGH DRAMA before and up to the 1st selection in the 2012 draft.
Posted by: fin4life | December 22, 2011 at 08:26 PM
Just last note of the day for me.
For those interested in Kellen Moore, keep this in mind.
Fair comparison to Brees height wise maybe. But Moore isn't taller.
Most "experts" have him listed at 5'11", despite his official listed height of 6'0", or occassionally 6'1".
Obviously the combine will chalk up the official official #, but that's the poop.
Otherwise I like the kid too. Maybe they can supply him with platform cleats.

Yeah that Kellen Moore really sucks! Has his team up by 2 tds 1st qtrs. The bum should have them up by 56pts right now.
