Connecting dots on RG3 declaring for the draft

Robert Griffin III is today telling Baylor coach Art Briles he will declare for the NFL draft in April, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

That's not a surprise in that RG3 as he's known has already earned his undergraduate degree in political science, already won the Heisman Trophy, already put the Baylor program on the national stage again, and is likely to the second quarterback drafted.

It all makes sense but there's more to it than that.

RG3's decision has an indirect effect on the current head coach search being conducted by the Dolphins and Rams in that the No. 2 pick St. Louis holds suddenly became more valuable.

With RG3 in the mix, the Rams may have increased their options for trading the pick to a quarterback-hungry team for multiple first round picks. The Rams may also suddenly have a viable new option for picking a new quarterback if the prospective head coach or general manager is not completely sold on Sam Bradford.

And so Jeff Fisher, who is weighing which team gives him his best chance of building a winner as quickly as possible, can absolutely consider the chances of adding multiple draft picks for that second pick into the whole equation.

That is a potential boon that St. Louis may have at its disposal that Miami will not.

Fisher probably will not base his decision on how valuable the No. 2 overall pick is, but he probably has considered that pick on some level. And that pick just got more valuable. Furthermore, the fact RG3 now figures as a possibility has to give anyone considering the Rams significant reason to believe working for the Rams is suddenly a more attractive proposition.

All that aside, let me say this about RG3: I am not scout. I am not expert on personnel matters. But I am quite certain the gifts this young man brings to the table will make him a success in the NFL.

Yes, RG3 needs to tighten up his footwork because he gets into the bad habit of throwing off his back foot a lot -- partly because his arm is so strong. But he is simply too intelligent, too athletic, too accurate as a passer, and too much of a solid citizen to do anything but succeed in the NFL. I'm not saying Griffin III is another Cam Newton or Andy Dalton who will have instant success in the NFL.

But he will be able to start in the NFL for someone right away next year. And he will be a very good player in the NFL eventually.

Eagles director of player personnel Ryan Grigson will head back to Indianapolis to meet with Irsay for a second interview, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. One of Schefter’s sources believes Grigson is the clear frontrunner to get the job.

So what does this have to do with the Dolphins?? I have NO freaking clue but I'm SURE Armando will come up with something...

I got a plan....
We declare one of our linemen ineligible because of of steriods (plant some in his locker), and we ask the NFL to forfeit all our wins.
Moving on up!

pretty much every mock draft has fins taking riley reiff

nyg colts could fire caldwell still and just maybe fisher is holding out to see

RG3 is better at this point than Aaron Rodgers was at the sane point. They had to totally rebuild Rodgers and then inserted him in a system that was just right for him. RG3 is a great QB he's not Pat White, or Michael Vick he a winner.

Moore turned the team around. He deserves the starting job.

db,

Do we need a QB? WHO would you like to get? :)

mdr ur done. just plain awful comments. and wheres all those fools who ripped me for wanting to lose in nov, meaningless wins have killed our draft now

talk about stupid....lmao

This is sad can't belive we are still waiting for the second coming!!!! Please get a franchise QB!!! fast!!!!

QB can make the WR into a star, not the other way around. Haven't we all learned that by now?

NYG...unreal man!
love the sports science show!
Imagine how how grumpy Brandon Marshall would be if we drafted Blackmon and he became the stud receiver.

qb runs the nfl now, u have to have a good one

Genuine question,
Assuming Fisher goes elsewhere, is there really any dudes out there that get y'all excited more than Bowles?
Bowles doesn't excite me at all, but no one else does either.
Schottenheimer will bolt in a year or two, we don't want to apparently talk to Billick. So who? Seems like a dart throw.
Light fading. I'm coming Elizabeth! ;)

NHFINSFAN,

With Blackmon as the Stud Receiver it just may be enough to get Marshall to have a talk with the beast within and walla...

The Beastie Boyz.

That Kid is UN freaking believable.

I tell you... The pickings for a QB is gone so let's move in and make the trades and get it done.

It's a pick we definitely wont regret.

At least Flynn has SOME NFL experience and is seen to be at least 'capable/good'.RG3 will cost a load of draft picks and is more of a gamble. Get Flynn and then draft the OL to protect him.

nyg mock drafts, most all, have blackmon going to rams at 2

Mart Moore did nothing special, hrs been in the league 5 years and he won us six game with no training camp. Cam newton did the samerhibg as a rookie with no camp and less talent than Miami. What does that say about Moore? He is not the guy.

If there can only be one thing this FO should do right is to PLEASE trade up and pick RG3!!!

nyg dreams big ,ill give him that. and changes his tune more times than a chick changes clothes before going out friday night

***** TONIGHTS MENUE ****

All this talk is making me hungry folks...

So MANGIA, Mangia.. Be back later.

Tonight I'm preparing a Sauce - Cuore Di Pomodoro Tomato, Prosciutto & Onion with pasta and nice fresh bread.

DB,

I change MY tune????

You have me confused with someone else. I offer options and I stick with my originals,, Cowher and Luck.

Aaron Rodgers threw less TD's and less completions percentage than RG3. MDR Don't challenge me because I know football I live and breath it.

DB,

Ohh.. I see. It was because I said to get Blackmon. If we cant get Luck, who's left that's worth the pick.

I say Blackmon. Move up and get him.

Matt Moore is the QB he throws the ball far with his eyes closed I saw his picture

dusty buttons is smart and funny he is my friend

The opportunity for a franchise QB came and went last year. 14 QB's drafted and 8 earned playing time. It was the best QB draft in 20 years. Ireland missed the boat badly not drafting any...

well yeah nyg, every in here wants cowher and luck, and everyone in here knows we cant have them

I think we have no chance at RG3 and I don't like the idea of giving Kolb-money to Flynn. The prospect of a Flynn-Philbin package coming from Green Bay was intriguing but obviously Philbin isn't worried in a coaching position at this moment.

My idea? Trade down to low-mid 20's, acquire a #2 this year and a pick next year, and take a chance on Ryan Tannehill from Texas A&M. Only been a QB for two years, lot of upside, but also a lot of development needed...

ok you proved your an idiot!!!

ireland will be missing the exit to the office soon

Funny, the day RGIII declares there are rumors that Chip Kelly (the man who orchestrated Oregon's fast explosive Offensive rise) is linked to the Dolphins HC job...) RG III to Miami for 2 #1's and a young prospect OR solid player (Jimmy Wilson, Brian Hartline, Marlon Moore) is perfect. Then the team will be able to address the O-line, TE, and secondary (particularly FS and another cover guy) in the draft this year. Kelly could update/ recreate the run and shoot offense with RGIII, Bush, Marshall, Gates, Bess, and Slaton as the catalysts. They could also mix in a power running element with mismatches in the passing game with Thomas, Clay, Hilliard, Fasano, New TE and a revamped Right side of O-line through picks and FA's. Although it may be too much to expect for Ross and Ireland to get this right. Forget Luck, IMO, RGIII is the most sure fire prospect at QB since....I'm only 32 y/o, and I can't remember one better. My only fear is the combine and workouts will confirm my thoughts, and RGIII will end up in Indy and the 2nd Pick will become too expensive for Miami. One think I truly believe is Miami is not in need of Rebuilding. They are a Hard ass coach and Franchise QB away from being a serious superbowl contender. If the Dolphins offense can average 25ppg or better, with Nolan's D, they are a 10-12 win team easily. I believe that RGIII will have a similar Rookie season to Cam Newton, a little less effective runner and a bit more efficient passing. Drew Brees is in N.O., Matt Ryan is in Atlanta, Ponder is in Minnesota, Kaepernick is in SF, Mallet is in NE. RGIII must end up in Miami. This is the guy!! Don't F this up Ireland!

I dont think RG will go higher then where we are drafting. Remember Brady Quinn?

The Browns have far more draft ammunition to make a deal happen for Griffin. That is where he will wind up. Miami has no shot at him.

holmgren hates rg3

I totally agree Donny!

if any team avg 35 pts a game they will win that many, come on

25 pts

BB 101 I agree, if no RGIII, Tannehill is next best option. But that would mean Moore would start the season at QB which increases the chances of a poor/average season. RGIII will start game 1, wherever he ends up, and will never look back. Look at the guy talk. He is smart and he is a football player, like Tebow is a football player. If Tebow can lead Denver to the playoffs, This kid will be a Pro-Bowl superstar in this league. He is as can't miss as you can get. Another possibility that intrigues is if the Rams fall in love with Luck or RG or both, Bradford may become available for the right price.

Really? Carolina and San Diego scored 25ppg in 2011. They barely won that many combined!

NO WAY miami gives up multple first round picks for anyone!!!! Its not in their DNA

As far as the coaching search goes, of all the names I've heard and interviews I've heard about the only guy I really would hate to see get the job is mike malarky anyone else would be fine with me

They need to get a f*king DNA transplant because if they have a shot at this kid and fk it up, they are ass clowns that should go work for a WAC conference school scouting for Handicap kids to march in the band!

MDR take a look sir,
Aaron Rodgers college stats his last 2 years
Career Passing: 424 Cmp, 665 Att, 5469 Yds, 43 TD 63.8 %COMP
Career Rushing: 160 Att, 336 Yds, 2.1 Avg, 8 TD
Career Scoring: 8 TD, 3 2PM, 54 Pts

RG3 college stats his last 2 years
Career Passing: 595 Cmp, 856 Att, 7794 Yds, 59 TD 69.5 %COMP
Career Rushing: 328 Att, 1334 Yds, 4.1 Avg, 18 TD
Career Scoring: 18 TD, 3 2PM, 114 Pts

Matt Moore is the QB not RG3 RG3 spends too much time on IR like Vivk & Tebow too many concussions and brain damage

Please no Griffin.Where not going to find a quarterback in the draft. Lets try free agency.Lets get rid of the GM first.Which is why we will probally loose out on Fisher.

Moore has a nicer package, like me :p

Bottom line, there will be a team not named the Rams that draft either Luck or RGIII, and that team will pay out the booty, regardless if they move up 1 spot or 7 spots. Ireland needs to get it done. Bottom line.

fisher!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right Donny. I think either the Rams or Vikings if the Rams keep their pick will trade the pick. I don't care what it costs. Get it done for once!!

NO MORE FISHER FOX NOW REPORT HE WNOT ACCEPT MIAMI OFFER.

wheres the link aloco

all you clowns who are doubting RGIII are probably the same clown that wanted to stick with Henne for 3 seasons. Dan Marino is done playing football. This is a new league. There are teams you have to beat that require 30-40 points scored on offense to win a superbowl. Matt Moore cant do that in ANY offense. No one in Free agency can do that. Griffin did it to Oklahoma's Defense (45 to be exact) virtually by himself. With a little better supporting cast in the pros and some experience, I am pretty confident he will eventually be able to keep up with Brady, Brees, and Rogers

donny calm down, griffin will be solid, not great. luck will be great

How can you say RG3 is injury prone? He was injured once, you can't say that he'll be injured all the time. RG3 is not a small guy he's the same size as Rodgers. Why can't people give this kid a chance and look at the talent and see he's a gamer, he's a baller, he's a play maker, shot caller and all he does is win!

NOW WE ONLY GET LEFTOVERS LIKE HAMBURGER HELPER.

John clayton just said... Fisher can go either way.. He said the longer it takes for fisher.. The more he think miami has a good shot

CLAYTON SAYS ANYTHING HE GETS PAID TO TALK NOT BE RIGHT.

Aloco... Send the link.. That fisher aint coming.. I don't find anything saying fisher is NOT accepting miami job?

Ross make an exception and try to get Marty Schottenheimer in there. Keep the coaching staff in place. And trade the whole draft for Luck.
