So where is Brian Billick in this coach search?
He's won a Super Bowl. He has experience. He put together a star-studded coaching staff in Baltimore that became a proving ground for future NFL head coaches Mike Nolan, Rex Ryan, Marvin Lewis, Jack Del Rio, and Mike Smith.
If nothing else, the guy can certainly put a staff together.
So what is the Dolphins interest in him?
So far, the Dolphins have had one unofficial contact with Billick or his camp, an NFL source tells The Miami Herald's David J. Neal. And another source tells me Billick is not really in play at the current time at all for the Miami job.
I find this puzzling.
I have asked numerous NFL sources why the Dolphins haven't or wouldn't dive headlong into a chance to interview Billick for the head coach job. No one can give me a definitive answer other than, Brian Billick can be a little pompous. Someone else told me Billick thinks he's always the smartest guy in the room and has no patience of dumb people.
A little pompous? The guy maybe has a big ego?
Are you kidding me?
That's the reason the Dolphins haven't gotten serious with Billick?
There has to be something else because Billick also hasn't been mentioned as a possibility anywhere else -- not St. Louis, not Kansas City, not Tampa Bay, not St. Louis, and obviously not Miami.
If there is an overriding reason Billick cannot be considered a good candidate, fine, I'd accept that. But the Dolphins have officially paid him no mind and at this writing don't seem intent on it.
There has to be a better reason for that than the guy can be pompous.
Miami bad, nobody else has looked but rip the Dolphins only for it.

I was intrigued by the fact that they list multiple examples of Fishers thinking as the Herald did not. Someone at Yahoo must have a connection with Jeffs handlers.

I don't get lack of interest in Billick either. People say Billick's SB team was all defense and crap offense. Might be partially true, but the fact is he's a winner. 80-64 record as a head coach, 5-3 in playoffs, 1 Super Bowl win, 2 AFC North championships in 9 years at Baltimore. Before Billick arrived, Baltimore never had a winning season. Billick was fired in 2007 after posting a 5-11 record and losing to the then-winless Dolphins, but just the year before his team won the AFC North division. When he was an assistant coach in Minn, they went to the playoffs 6 out of 7 years.
If you listen to him break down film on NFL and Fox Sports, he knows his stuff. And he's spent the last four years dissecting EVERY team's game film, so he knows what they all can do.
I'm sorry, this man has a right to be arrogant. Dolphins are fools for not pursuing him.

Billick is a better fit than Fisher IMO. He is an offensive guy who has worked with Nolan in the past, and he has won a Super Bowl. And for those who like to point out that the Ravens D won the SB, Billick was the OC for the Vikings potent, record setting offense of the late 90's
From what I've read, it's not so much that he thinks he is the smartest guy in the room. HE IS the smartest guy in the room.

I remember Jason because that's when I first found the Herald blog back when I was still on dial up with the rest of the world! Long time ago but Jason was a great writer. And I enjoyed his weekly Q&A. He always took the time to answer all of our questions and even e-mailed me a bunch of times.

As far as Billick is concerned, I think it's still awfully early in the process. I like how the Dolphins have handled things so far. They've made it clear to Fisher that he's the target. They've interviewed Bowles and Toub. I'm sure they will get word back from Fisher in the next week or so and at that point if he's not coming it's time to carry out the rest of the plan. Probably the guy from GB, maybe the OC in NE, maybe a guy like Gregg Williams.
Billick was really be an arrogant a** that rubs a lot of people the wrong way though. I'm not personally a fan of the guy but if he wins I couldn't really care less.

Ireland with his greatness. Still will have plenty of draft picks left.He can make up for it.

The fact that 5 other teams are seeking a HC and NONE of them have Billick in line for an interview speaks volumes about his reputation.

OK, that makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever. Billick is the kind of coach that the Dolphins need. But it appears that they may want someone who they can keep under control vice someone who will challenge them to be better in every aspect of the game. I have been an advocate of giving Billick an interview and see where it leads from the minute that Sparano was terminated. Billick himself has even stated that the Miami job "intrigues him". If that is not a subtle hint that he wants to speak with Ross, Ireland, and even Peterson for the job, then the rest of us must be foolish.
I know that Fisher is the one they want for the job. That is very much apparent. But if Fisher decides to go to St.Louis instead of us (which could happen), then the big 3 (Ross, Ireland, and Peterson, not D-Wade, Lebron, or C-Bosh) need to suck up their pride and contact the man. They keep saying that they want a coach that is a big name, has won before, and knows how to build a Super Bowl caliber team. Well they need to prove it. Bringing Billick in for a interview is a first step.
Any thoughts on this from the rest of my fellow Dolphins fans?

I also remember when that idiot writer was more involved with the Dolphins,,,,oh yeah LeBetard! I hated that guy! He said Ricky was lying and all he cared about was money, that he wasn't worth the price and would be even worse in Miami. I emailed him a letter saying his article was off base and to watch, Ricky was going to do even better in Miami because he would be back on natural grass and Wanny would build a good rushing attack.
Couldn't believe he e-mailed me back and we went back and forth for a good week. Then a little while later Ricky broke the Dolphins single season rushing record, led the league in almost every rushing category, made the pro bowl, and was voted pro bowl mvp where he broke another record. ALL WHILE SMOKING WEED! (But we didn't know that at the time).
I emailed him after that season and never heard back, I wonder why ;)
But was also half expecting a letter when he later quit on the team. Maybe we were both a little right.

Yeah Craig it has to be the mediocrity.
Also the fact that way too many people live vicariously through other people's accomplishments. When those people fail some fans feel as if they have failed themselves. They site things like "I'm so sick of being made fun of by other fans". It's pretty funny because they don't even contribute to the teams success or failure but take both very personally.
If you are happy in life this stuff becomes more of a distraction then the be all end all. I just think there are a lot of very unhappy people that don't realize they are. These people feel better about their lives when there is someone to hate and blame. Psychology 101!
