« McCoy believes himself the leading candidate | Main | Joe Philbin to coach the Dolphins »

Dolphins owner on the move back to South Florida

Stephen Ross is done working in New York for the week. His job as a Big Apple real estate mogul is done. His job as the Dolphins owner who has spent the past four days interviewing potential head coach candidates is also mostly done.

Time to come home.

Time to name a coach.

Ross will board his private jet at around 8 a.m. this morning and head to South Florida, where he'll arrive around 11 a.m. He is expected to have with him a decision or near-decision on Miami's next coach when he returns. It's unclear if the new Dolphins' coach will be riding with him from New York, where the interviews were conducted.

Denver offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is considered the leading candidate -- at least that's what he considered himself, as I reported two days ago. Unconfirmed reports, based on dubious tweets from CBS 4 in Denver and the assistant director of communications for the Mountain West Conference, say it's McCoy. I'm trying to confirm through, you know, legitimate means.

Green Bay offensive coordinator Joe Philbin and Miami interim coach Todd Bowles are also candidates.

[UPDATE: NFL Insider Danny More said on the Armando and Perk radio show this morning that Philbin has been eliminated as a candidate. He also reported McCoy returned to Denver following his interview with the Dolphins. That would suggest McCoy won't be on the plane with Ross when he lands.]

[UPDATE 2: A source close to Philbin tells me the Green Bay offensive coordinator has not been told one way or another what his status with the Dolphins is. Sheesh!]

[UPDATE 3: The Mountain West communications director says he has no inside information on McCoy.]

[UPDATE 4: The Dolphins contingent landed in Fort. Lauderdale. McCoy indeed was not on the plane as More said. Neither were any of the other two coaching candidates. GM Jeff Ireland and senior vice president for football operations Dawn Aponte got off the plane and returned to the team's facility. Aponte's role on the trip would obviously be one of budget and contract negotiation.]

[UPDATE 5: A Bowles family source tells me the interim coach has not been told one way or another what his status with the Dolphins is at this time.]

ALoco is jealous. When he tried for job they tell him come back when you learn enough english to say:

WOOD YOU LICK FREES WITH THAT?

In other words you have nothing to report other than Ross is getting on a plane. Fascinating.

i heard zimmer was too blunt in his interviews with ross/ireland. the regime doesnt want to be exposed by a guy who tells the truth. they need more of a 3rd tier coach who will be more of a puppet.

Ireland!

De-Stoy Be-Endo!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..................

ireland wants no competition at the top. he desperately needs to find a weaker candidate who will follow orders and play nice. zimmer told the truth which won't be tolerated under ross/ireland. zimmer was the clear choice.

i'm sure the coaching search was decided earlier in the week and it will be mccoy and it will be announced today. he will let jeff be the boss and promises not to say anything worthwhile/truthful as it might expose his superiors.

RONLAD,

I HAVE VERY NICE GOB I GO TO ,BUT YOU AND OTHERS POSTING 24/7 CLAIMING YOU R SMART WHILE LIVING IN TRAILERS AND STUDIOS ........

PS... WHY ALL THAT WRITING ABOUT ABOUT ROSS AND HIS PRIVATE PLANE AND ON THE MOVE CRAP ................???????

**BREAKING NEWS**

Sources close to Jeff Ireland are reporting the McCoy will indeed be the new Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins.

According to anonymous sources, McCoy is just part of an overall plan to put Miami back on top.

Ireland reportedly quipped: "He fits in nicely with our plans to bring back Pat White and the Wildcat" and "In Yo Face!"

ODIN,

(( ROSS ON THE MOVE )).............

Why waste their money on any of these coaches that nobody else wants? What a joke. 3-13 next year.

Armando

So I hear Ross is getting on a plane this morning. Do you know which side of the plane he will be sitting on?

Armando

Inside sources tell me JT is going to shave at 9:00am today. Why have you not reported on that?

LOOK FOR 25 PAGES OF CRAPPY POSTING FROM OUR BLOGGERS ONCE MCCOY BECOMES THE NEW HC.....LIKE WHEN WE HIRED JJ AND THE PIZZA MAN ...........SAYING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN ,,,,,,,,,

WHO'S GOING TO REPLACE OUR EX FRAUD DC ???????

THAT'S THE Q >>>>>>>>>>>>

its comical to watch as ireland attaches himself to the owner. when i attended the training camps in davie, ireland followed parcells around the practice field like a duckling follows its mother.

Aloco, mike nolan is honorable and well respected around the NFL;thats why he left the "mess" ireland has created. we will miss him.

GREG Z......

SO MIKE NOLAN WAS NOT AT FAULT FOR BEING 5-17 @ HOME IN THE LAST 2 YEARS AND 0-7 IN THIS YEAR STARTING SEASON.........

HE LEFT AFTER MAKING FEW MILLIONS FOR SABOTAGING THE PIZZA MAN AND AFTER THE DOLPHINS HAVE FIGURED THEY HAD A FRAUD .....

And here we are at Armando and the Amigos!

OSCAR,

ARE YOU VET DOCTOR OR A RETIRED EX MAIL MAN ?

You are being watched.

I agree with ALoco, No matter who the next coach is, blog,blog....blog, blog, blog. A bunch of blogers repeating themselves and saying the same thing. Guess what so called true Fin fans you don't have a crystle ball. WAIT SUPPORT AND SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. We new what we had these past three years. Lets get excited about this year and support who ever is there. You now you will. You will never boycott, stop reading, watching, and buying Dolphin products. Why? because your a true fan. The rest of you, SHUT THE H#LL UP AND GET OFF HERE.

F--k Miami-Go Titans

Aloco, your analysis is faulty. no one has blamed nolan for anything. he put the players on the field that were given him by ireland. where can you hide sean smith and we didnt acquire a FS to strengthen the secondary. his defensive abilities were never in question.

Greg Z, read (Zimmer too blunt for Dolphins) same thing. I wasn't too much on Zimmer but if you read between the lines....Zimmer a threat to Ireland....then he was the right guy.

Aloco:

A. Nolan did not pick talent
B. CB and FS were under performing
C. early 4Q meltdowns due to conditioning
1. and taking more snaps from opposition due to poor offensive performance
D. MOST IMPORTANTLY, Offense did not score enough and RED ZONE metrics lowest

IMHO, your holding Noland accountable for poor offensive performance.
And, like Belichick who had poor results on his first hc gig, I think Noland could have the same success. He is as good or better than the candidates being considered as finalists.

Devotion to Ireland is not based on metrics or results; if it was he would have been shown the door with TS. It is based on emotion which is a bond that is harder to break. Ross is in the dark and clings to nearest body.

Doesn't matter who the coach is. We still have Jeff Ireland. If the Dolphins don't start landing some "acorns" in the draft, we are just spinning our wheels. One Pro-bowl player drafted in the last 5 years just doesn't cut it.

GREG,

YOU R WRONG....... YOU GET PAID TO DO THE JOB AND NOT BLAME IRELAND @ EVERY TURN,HOW IN HELL YOU START 0-7 AND ENDS 6-10 UNLESS YOU HAVE A FRAUD COACHING STAFF AND WHAT ABOUT BRIAN COX ?

THE MIAMI HAVE GOOD PLAYERS AND NOT PERFORMING AT THEIR ABILITY ??????????

PS....... YOU GOT TO HIRE VERY YOUNG COACHES WHO ARE NOT CORRUPT ///////////////////////

PS2............ NOTICE HOW ROSS LOOKS ONLY FOR YOUNG FULL OF ENERGY WHO WANT TO BUILD THEIR RESUMS NOT OLD LIKE THE FISHER TYPE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR A RETIREMENT PCKAGE //////

REMEMBER ALL THESE GAMES WE WERE WINNING BY 16-23 POINTS IN THE LAST 2 YEARS AND THE DEFENSE GAVE 25-30 POINTS A GAME FOR THE OTHER TEAM TO WIN AND TELL ME NOLAN DIDN'T SABOTAGE THE PIZZA MAN >>>>>>>>>>

NFL Insider Danny More on with Armando Salguero on 640 WFTL is reporting that Joe Philbin has been eliminated from the Dolphins coaching search. It is now down to Mike McCoy and Todd Bowles. He is also reporting McCoy flew back to Denver after yesterdays interview in NYC with Ross.

IRELANDSUCKS........... YOU ALREADY STARTING POSTING THE SAME CRAP WE HEAR AT EVERY TIME WE HIRE A NEW COACH......... THIS GUY WAS ELIMINATED AND THIS GUY STILL ON THE RUNNING CRAP.......PLEASE .

WAIT FOR A NEW POST AROUND LUNCH TIME ,ABOUT 2;00 PM TO INTRODUCE MACCOY AS NEW HC.........

Official 2nd interview transcripts:

Ireland: Was your mom a hooker?

Bowles: No she wasn't Jeffy

Ireland: You passed!

Bowles: um, ok (in his tight lipped Lovie Smith inspirational wannabe face)

...............................................

Ireland: Is your wife a hooker?

McCoy: F__k you!

Ireland: Too bad you didn't pass the test.

McCoy: eat sht you f__king a__hole!

smacks Ireland's glasses off!

...............................................

Ireland: How much?

Philbin: my agent can talk contract negotiations.

Ireland: No! How much per hour?

Philbin: haha, I'm not sure what you mean

Ireland: You wife, how much?

Philbin spits in Ireland's face!

what fu3king morons these two jerkoffs are! that would be the circus monkey ross and his litlle buddy ireland.

Well this sucks if McCoy is the top candidate, he has even less credentials then a tea bag. Sigh, another longggg season is ahead.

Been Dolphin fan since they became a team in 66 when I was 8 years old living in South Miami (only the Dade County court House was populating skyline). I remember Detroit unleashed a lot of end-of-contract players and Dolphins were considered "Paper Lion" Jrs. Bob Griese was similar to Tebow--scrambled every play. Then Shula came after losing SB to Jets. Loyalty has a big dose of civic pride and just pure love of the game.

I still have the 8-year-old enthusiasm for Dolphins combined with adult disappointment seeing bad-decisions affect team for decade after decade. It is like having a great neighbor but then he stops caring, his lawn has more weeds and his house needs painting. You can see what is wrong but can't do anything about it. You remain cordial to neighbor, but what else can you do but cheer him on and hope for the best as he battles his demons.

The coach will be the coach. It is what it is. Its still Miami's Dolphins. Maybe there will be fewer weeds next year. I will still cheer them on. (But the jerks should have given Nolan a chance).

Sadly it just doesn't matter with these Clowns running the show!

FUTURE PRESS CONFERENCE: 3pm est.

Ross: Thanks for coming we are excited to announce that we have found our next Head Coach. In life sometimes the best things are what you already have and the best choice to be Miami's next Head Coach and our next young Don Shula is Todd Bowles (will be 49 next season).

Bowles: (nodding with his lips tight, half way smiles because he has no personality to lead a team)

Ireland: The Miami Dolphins is one of the best organizations in all of professional sports. I am proud to lead us into the next 40 years (his contract has small print put in by mercenary Parcells that guarantees him 40 years or he is owed 1.5 billion dollars).

Ross: Jeff has taught me so much about football. I have learned that a star studded list of people in their prime in 1985 (Estefan) and fist pumping is not what builds championships. Acorns are needed to build championships and the more you have the better off you will be.

Ireland: (nods with approval and hands Bowles a piece of paper to read)

Bowles: I would like to thank first and foremost Mr Jeffrey Bartholomew Ireland for the best opportunity in the world which is to be part of his team. I would like to also thank Stuey (what Ireland calls Stephen Ross) too. Mr. Jeffrey has a plan in place that I will get to put in place and that is to win a championship. Not 1 not 2 not 3 but many as Chris Bosh would say haha. Any questions?
..............................................

Armando: So what exactly will Miami do at QB?

Bowles: We already have a very good one on our team in Matt Moore.

Armando: What will you do upgrade the play makers and to get "chunk yardage"?

Bowles: haha well you clearly didn't see Mr. Jeffrey Ireland's past draft with Clyde Gates and also the young super talents like Marlon Moore and Julius Pruitt.

Armando: They have a combined 3 cathces in their careers

Bowles: Let me put it like this what is the use of having just 1 acorn if you throw it at your enemy you may miss but if you have a fist full of them the odds are much improved.

Ireland: (high fives Toddy boy)

I would be happy with either Philbin or Bowles. McCoy would be a disaster.

McCoy will be the least qualified coach in the NFL. This is the type of coach that the Raiders under Al Davis would pick...a no name w/o a resume......b/c anyone with credibility would not take the Raider job (don't believe me...quick name the last 5 Raider coaches, how long did they last and where are they now...all forgettable, all unqualified). The Dolphins have now fallen to that level. To insult Don Shula w. comparisons to this dolt is unforgivable. Don Shula has a 71-23 HC'ing record when he became HC of the Dolphins. He had been to a Superbowl (and lost) to the Jets (that team had 13-1 regular season record). McCoy was fired from Carolina......worst team in NFL, Jimmy Clauson (drafted and failed); flop of offense w. Orton in Denver (the QB Miami heavily pursued); established the Tebow offense...essentially scramble until you get a running lane or a receiver get open. McCoy is NOT a 'young Shula'. He is a failure at his previous jobs. In 3 years he WILL be fired. He IS NO Shula. Check out Shula's resume vs. this clown. NO COMPARISON! Ross and Ireland are dillusional if they think that they can pull the wool over the fan's eyes and try to sell them 'snake oil'. Not going to happen. To quote the great line from that dreadful 1970;s movie 'Christine'...."son, you can't polish a turd". Ross, Ireland...this is a turd...quit trying to polish it!!

Arcorns-R-Us........best post of the year!

I do not understand why this is such a hush, hush process.

Bowles would be the worst choice of all the guys. He is cut from the Parcells, Ireland, Sparano way of thinking.

Get ready for more of Matt Moore, Anthony Fasano, Brian Hartline, Dallas cast offs, and mediocrity.

Bowles playing chess with Belichick and Rex Ryan, twice a season. Wow!

Miami's 2012 record 7-9
2013 8-8
2014 5-11
2015 6-10
2016 7-9
2017 8-8
2018 9-7 (Brady retired)

Thats right, need to name a coach so Armando and the idiot mob can get busy bashing him... Need to justify that salary right???

Jeff Fisher on Mike & Mike at 8:45. Wonder if he'll say (truthfully) why he din't pick the Dolphins?

NO! It's no LONGER My-Ami!

You can have it, it's Your-Ami now!

Stevie "Hollywood" Ross.

Jeff "The Ball Boy Wonder" Ireland.

Mike "The un-Real" McCoy.

This is starting to remind me of an old Richard Pryor movie.

Bingo Ireland and The Traveling Acorns.

Except the Acorns NEVER win!

Mike and Mike are talking to Kiper.

There all talking about players and teams they said wouldn't make the Championship round.

What a trio of dolts! No pride, no accountability, no nothing. It's all Blah, blah, blah! Like they know what their talking about.

I wish, JUST ONCE, someone would come out and admit their clueless. Admit that they got every pick wrong. Admit that they don't understand why were still listening to them blow smoke.

team has to have a coach. Mr. Ross if you're not going to hire a coach, just fold the franchise. The City does not like you, the national media is in love with everyone else in the division, and actually, the city does not care.

**BREAKING NEWS**

Bowles Demoted!

He's been given a contract extension and a raise, but demoted nonetheless. Bowles has agreed to return to Miami for 2012 and once again Coach the secondary.

In other news, Bryan Cox is rumored to be interviewing for the vacant DC position created when Nolan Jumped ship for Atlanta.

Follow me on Tweeter for updates.

odinseye,

Are you serious? How where are your sources?

Lets remember that ALL HEAD COACHES are or once were unproven in the NFL. They must start somewhere. The Dolphins have had both in recent years, unproven and proven coaches, but with mixed results.

I believe the Dolphins should go with Ireland's choice of Mike McCoy. This gives Ireland ownership in the search and hiring of said coach. If McCoy fails then Ireland will certainly be fired.

We as fans need to give Ireland some credit for the good personnel decisions that he has made, although he should face the media for some of his bad decisions made.

IMO Ireland not facing the media and fan scrutiny is his biggest downfall. He needs to own up to his decisions, good or bad.

Fisher denied the power issue was QUOTE: Misleading.

Then goes on talking out of the side of his mouth saying Ireland was: Impressed with Ireland in particular.

Reading between the lines: He said he didn't want all the power, stating Head Coaches have too much to do for that. He went on to say, he did want, QUOTE "SOME SAY" in personel matters.

Unless he's completely lying, this leads me to believe that Ireland wasn't willing to "WORK" with ANYONE and Ross backed him up on it.

Interesting, I don't know how else to interpret it.

Somebody is talking shyt. Who you gonna believe? Ireland and Ross: That they were willing to give Fisher "SOME" say?

Or, Fisher who basically just said they wouldn't give him even "SOME SAY"?

I know who I'm inclined to believe.

PS: Am I reading this wrong? Am I reading to much into it?

Considering were about to hire McCoy, I find this Un-FVCKING-Believable!

odinseye,
Are you serious? How where are your sources?

Sorry Guy. I didn't mean to be misleading. I completely made this up out of nowhere. I apologize.

It's just the kind of things that go through my head when trying to guess what Dumb and Dumber will do next!

Totally anti-climactic day, no matter who he names. Interest is running low. 29 days till pitchers and catchers.

Let me take this time to commend Mr. Ross and the Dolphins organization. We've all been irrational at times as fans (Lord knows I have). However, a wave of patience and understanding has washed over me.

This is a tumultuous time we're in. And Mr. Ross has a VERY IMPORTANT decision to make. Namely, who will become the next FAILED HC of the Miami Dolphins. Who will be the next guy to come here with a load of b.s., game after game, saying how close this team is to competing. Talking about all the positive takeaways from a losing effort (my personal favorite). Talking about how the Patriots and Steelers and Ravens are elite teams in this league, and staying in the game until the very end but not coming away with a win is really a moral victory fans should appreciate.

Plus, can we have some compassion on this blog for once? Put YOURSELF in the candidate's position. If these guys have young kids, they'll have to uproot them, bring them to Miami, to only move in 2-4 years after their failed term here. It's hard on the families. Miami isn't where football Coaches go to retire. It's where they go to make a lesser name for themselves (at least post Shula), where they go to prove they aren't as great, or as ready for a HC gig as they thought. Where they go to be molded by the wall of mediocrity waiting for them.

Bless you Mr. Ross. Bless you Jeff Ireland. Thank you for your hard work and due diligence in these matters. I fully understand this HC will only bring us 6-8 wins for the foreseeable future (if we're even that lucky). And I appreciate your efforts in that endeavor. Because GOD FORBID we choose the wrong guy to lead our mediocre team. Can't ever have that. We want the BEST mediocre Coach to lead our mediocre talent.

Thank you sirs. May we all bow to your ultimate wisdom.

Amen.

Acorn,

I was trying to be humorous in stressing the irony of how Ross dealt with SpOrano last year.

He tried to hire Harbaugh so he could fire SpOrano, but ends up giving him a raise and an extension. I could just see them giving Bowles some type of Lame Duck offer like this after they hire McCoy.

The Bryan Cox part was just added sarcasm! I loved Cox as a player, but I don't think he's any Mike Nolan.

Sorry again, just **TRYING** to be funny. I'll try harder next time ;)

Only thing that separate Al Davis from Ross (other than the obvious that Davis is dead and Ross is dead from the neck up) is a wheelchair and the diaper. Harsh..yes...true...yes. Idiot decisions made by idiot owners that are too involved. All comes down to NOT firing Ireland to get Fisher. All the other dominos fall (sideways) because of THAT decision. I expect McCoy to go 4-12 next year, 6-10 in 2013, and 4-12 in 2014...fired. Ross will then be seen on ESPN ranting on a microphone incoheriantly as spit is falling out his mouth (ala Davis on Lane Kiffin)as Dofins nation continues to hide their collective faces in utter shame.

This is so sad.

Thank you sirs. May we all bow to your ultimate wisdom.
Amen.
