« McCoy believes himself the leading candidate | Main | Joe Philbin to coach the Dolphins »

Dolphins owner on the move back to South Florida

Stephen Ross is done working in New York for the week. His job as a Big Apple real estate mogul is done. His job as the Dolphins owner who has spent the past four days interviewing potential head coach candidates is also mostly done.

Time to come home.

Time to name a coach.

Ross will board his private jet at around 8 a.m. this morning and head to South Florida, where he'll arrive around 11 a.m. He is expected to have with him a decision or near-decision on Miami's next coach when he returns. It's unclear if the new Dolphins' coach will be riding with him from New York, where the interviews were conducted.

Denver offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is considered the leading candidate -- at least that's what he considered himself, as I reported two days ago. Unconfirmed reports, based on dubious tweets from CBS 4 in Denver and the assistant director of communications for the Mountain West Conference, say it's McCoy. I'm trying to confirm through, you know, legitimate means.

Green Bay offensive coordinator Joe Philbin and Miami interim coach Todd Bowles are also candidates.

[UPDATE: NFL Insider Danny More said on the Armando and Perk radio show this morning that Philbin has been eliminated as a candidate. He also reported McCoy returned to Denver following his interview with the Dolphins. That would suggest McCoy won't be on the plane with Ross when he lands.]

[UPDATE 2: A source close to Philbin tells me the Green Bay offensive coordinator has not been told one way or another what his status with the Dolphins is. Sheesh!]

[UPDATE 3: The Mountain West communications director says he has no inside information on McCoy.]

[UPDATE 4: The Dolphins contingent landed in Fort. Lauderdale. McCoy indeed was not on the plane as More said. Neither were any of the other two coaching candidates. GM Jeff Ireland and senior vice president for football operations Dawn Aponte got off the plane and returned to the team's facility. Aponte's role on the trip would obviously be one of budget and contract negotiation.]

[UPDATE 5: A Bowles family source tells me the interim coach has not been told one way or another what his status with the Dolphins is at this time.]

BREAKING NEWS

JANE JUST FLATULATED AND QUEEFED.

OooOoOooo Rue Paul is sexy

Update #92 : Who cares anymore?

DC...I believe Sparano was the one responsible for drafting all the OL...Ireland just gave his coach what he was requesting.

...McCoy appears to be very offensive minded and I see him drafting offensive playmakers, like Justin Blackmon!

update-
The dolphins announced their head coach last week. No-one seemed to have noticed.

Craig M,

you know the pickens are slim when Jason Campbell is being mentioned lol. I hear you though. It will be someone of that ilk and caliber. Campbell has had a different offensive to learn every single year since College up until now. The kid never really had a chance but he's got to be about 30 ish. I doubt much upside other then what we have seen.

Beggers can't be choosers though!

Snicker............snick, snort...........Bhwaa.........Bhwaaa Ha...........Bhwaaaa Haaa Haaaaaaa.............WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

McCoy met with Ireland and decided he didn't want the job-LOL!

Don't worry, snicker, snick, don't worry, HA HA! He recomended Del Rio!

Bhwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Preperations A through G were a complete failure.

I can't understand how Ross keeps Wayne Huizenga as a board member of the Miami Dolphins. Huizenga and Parcells concocted a scene to conn Ross, and he bit the bait. Now, Wayne and Parcells are laughing all the way to the bank and Ross was left with... well, Ireland, Sparano and a white elephant. Personally, I think this team is out of here. Los Angeles could probably give Ross a much better return either by moving the team thereor by selling it to somebody who wants to move the team there. In the final analysis, we fans suffer if the team stays or if the team moves.

ROSS ANNOUNCES TONY SPARANO REHIRED AS HC!

BREAKING NEWS:

TOM OLIVADOTTI NAMED AS NEW DC!

DC,

Wow bro! You seem down as me these days lol. I hear you man, tough to keep eating sht over and over from this dysfunctional bunch. There is really no bright side to any of this either. We can look forward to the draft and Miami's new philosophy of Denver Broncos cast offs. Eddie Royal, Daniel Fells and Brady Quinn here we come!

AndyNJ,

Not saying it's ideal....but I don't see the answer we're looking for happening this offseason. I think we're kdding ourselves if we think the RGIII is going to come together and I don't Peyton choosing Miami if he's a FA. If it means we have to wait ANOTHER year until we get that first round QB then so be it.

Not thrilled about McCoy if he's the choice but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until we can evaluate him further. I was never sold on Philbin to begin with but I don't really love any of these choices.

Almost makes me wonder if there is ANOTHER choice out there that is still to be revealed. All this dragging on makes me wonder. Maybe a guy on one of the final four teams? Don't get why Winston Moss wasn't interviewed. Seems like a natural guy to be talking to.

NH NH NH. I love the wide-eyed innocence of your mind bro. And I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But Jeff Ireland is a Bill Parcells protege bud. In that world, it's UNHEARD OF drafting an offensive weapon in the first round. Trust and believe it wasn't ONLY Sparano who wanted those guys. This is exactly why Fisher wanted veto power over Ireland, he could see the ignorance from behind his arrogant stare. This joker doesn't even KNOW what he doesn't know.

I don't want to be like the captain of that Italian ship that sank. I'm gonna let you know right here and now, this ship is sinking, QUICKLY! Don't listen those that only want a life raft for themselves. I'm telling you this because I care about you my man, be on the lookout, I see failure on our horizon. And, like the Who, I can see for miles and miles.

BREAKING NEWS:

JEFF IRELAND SIGNS "MISTER RODGERS" CARDIGAN SWEATER TO COMPETE WITH MATT MOORE FOR 2012 STARTING QB POSITION.

"IT A WONDERFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD" NOW GUYS!

Odin,

We've got the FIVE year old on here again, playing the old impersonation games. Brilliant!! You must be SO proud of yourself, whoever you are....

I'll sign off now Odin, so that you know it's not me.

Just heard that the more people are getting off of the ross jet. Ronald Mcdonald, Grimace and Mayor McCheese have all been spotted. Not sure if they are coaching candidates, or new minority owners.

So much for the announcement today. They were in such a rush to pare the field down to three and now they are dragging their feet in picking a winner. I love the srategy of either Philbin or McCoy and if Ross can't decide between the two, go with Bowles. I don't even know what to say about that one. When you read something that moronic, what can you say? Pick a coach you fools! Please, end this debacle so we can all move on with our lives

BREAKING NEWS:

BILL PARCELLS HAS DECLARED HIMSELF DOLPHINS STARTING QB FOR THE 2012 SEASON. HE SAYS HE'LL PROVE HOW MEANINGLESS THE QB POSITION IS.

Gee Craig, don't take it so personal. McCoy apologized and said he was flattered by the offer.

Lighten up Bud, we'll find somebody. I hear Charlie Sheen's looking for a job.

You know, Tiger Blood, Adonis DNA! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Go ACORNS!!!!

"I don't want to be like the captain of that Italian ship that sank. I'm gonna let you know right here and now, this ship is sinking, QUICKLY!"

Posted by: DC Dolfan | January 20, 2012 at 03:23 PM

This is so 37 seconds ago. Miami is sunk. It don't matter who the HC is. Parcells` ball boy GM of choice is the problem.

The only search that should be going on right now is for a GM! Let a knowledgable one make the HC choice. Not this scout!

Craig,

No worries man. I was being a smart asss.

Whoever it was, I deserved it. I think everyones a little edgy today............Ya Think?

Andy,

Unfortunately, I don't have Craig M's clairvoyance. Maybe if I could smell the Playoffs in our future (even if it's when I'm 60) then I could be optimistic. But I don't smell it, not a whiff.

Think about it, multiple drafts, multiple FO's, multiple HCs, multiple QBs...SAME OLD MEDIOCRITY! That means Miami is set in it's ways. You hear it on this site. The last 15 FA QBs didn't work, so what do people want to do, bring in ANOTHER FA QB. Offense hasn't been effective since Marino, so what do people want to do, shore up the defense.

It took Sparano 7 weeks of losing to realize he needed to try something new. But in Miami-land that's TERRIFIC, since we're in an almost 30 year rut since our last SB appearance, and we don't seem to be changing course. It's full steam ahead...straight into mediocrity.

I'm really not even sure the franchise WANTS to get any better. Maybe all those tools are just happy to have a job, for now.

I drew a picture in my head of our future, and it's dark, and wet, and claustrophobic, and rainy, and did I mention dark?

DON SHULA CAN FIELD A BETTER TEAM WITH FULL BLOWN ALZHEIMERS, THAN IRELAND COULD FIELD EVEN IF HE SWALLOWED A MEMOREX CASSETTE.

Good day guys...I was reading some earlier posts...Wow...Lots of weirdos here today...Anyone who comes on a blog and tells everyone to stfu shows serious immaturity and mental issues...Yikes...Whatever...So what's the latest? McCoy? Bowles? Philbin?

You can SEARCH for whatever you want, I'm looking for the LIFE BOATS!

SOS!!!!

BREAKING NEWS:

ROSS WILL MAKE HC ANNOUNCEMENT SHORTLY BEFORE HE TAKES OFF FOR HIS FANTASY ISLAND VACATION. hE ALSO PLANS TO ANNOUNCE TATOO AS NEW MINORITY OWNER.

I wonder what's taking so long.......it's not like there is as much to discuss as there was with the whole Fisher fiasco.

Any of the 3 is a risk.....they will either be the next Payton or Mcarthy.....or they will be the next Spagnolo Sporano.

Stop sticking your foot in the water and jump in!

F U MAN F UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Yes Im Nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is becoming hilarious. every sporting network makes fun of us once an hour. please say nooooooooo to mccoy and bowles. yes to philbin and just for the reason that he can recruit some green bay players. all 3 suck

DC Dolfan, this head coaching thing is a bit blown out a proportion if you ask me...The most important thing (as far as I'm concerned anyway) is what's going to happen in free agency and also the draft. If Ireland signs impact players and drafts some guys who can become contributors, the next HC will be successful, no matter who it is.

BREAKING NEWS:

STEVEN ROSS ANNOUNCES HE HAS NOW PURCHASED "FANSTASY ISLAND"!

Im surprise you guys still give a sh*t who becomes head coach.

BREAKING NEWS:

All of your Breaking News Posts are a FAIL!!

spiderman we are the few real fans left. most are long gone, ross will be shocked when he sees that stadium empty come august

Spiderman......

I'm starting not care now......although I'm sure I will as soon as he is named

Today's NFL has its premier teams...and all the rest.
Miami was a premier team until 2000, now the NFL front office really sees us more as a liability than an asset.

Pats, Cowboys, Giants, Jets, Packers, Bears, and now even the Saints, yes the once lowly Saints are beloved by the NFL front office.

I agree with DC in that this franchise is going in the wrong direction. Ross may say he wants to "win"... but what owner wants to lose?

There are plenty of other teams who were once proud franchises that are on the decline: Vikings, Browns, Raiders, & Redskins...we are in good company.

DC,

I hear you bro! Tough times for us. No face of the franchise for years. I am not really into buying jerseys but I went to a draft party (really just an excuse for all my friends to get drunk and away from the wives lol) but anyway they all had Eagles jerseys (Vick, Vick and DeSean) on, a Cowboy fan had a Romo jersey and the 1 Giant had an Eli. All except for DeSean was franchise caliber QBs and I have on a freaking Dolphins t-shirt because what am I supposed to buy a Matt Moore or Henne, un-freaking real how bad the so called talent is on this roster.

Good day guys...I was reading some earlier posts...Wow...Lots of weirdos here today...Anyone who comes on a blog and tells everyone to stfu shows serious immaturity and mental issues...Yikes...

he knows all so he expects your undivided attn. show some respect. dont worry though he didnt leave. hes trolling waiting for his name to be mentioned. he did the same thing earlier.

Ohio Dolfan,

The hc announcement is taking so long because our new hc has to get the new job cleared thru his shrink. There are many H.I.P.P.A hurdles to overcome.

Spiderman, c'mon bro...What's up with that? There's always a light at the end of every tunnel...LOL!! How's the weather today in Atlanta, GA?

I follow your post NH, and agree... but one question

I live near Cleveland, and I'm wondering when were the BROWNS a once proud franchise??? lol 1966?

[UPADTE 6: I just spoke to my mom and she has not been told one way or another who the next coach will be, nor has she received any inside information on this]

I rather find some way to draft RG3 then to name a new head coach for the Dolphins.

dustybottoms,

After the new hc announcement, home games will no longer be played at Joe Robbie. They'll be played in Ross' backyard. On Fantasy Island!

I propose Miami hires the oldest ball boy on the Steelers staff to be our next GM. At least they have a track record of being pretty good.

It couldn't be worse, could it?

maybe ross will schedule a home game in sept before a 730 kickoff?

Montreal,

The weather sucks, I havent seen the sun all day, overcast about 42 degress. Depressing weather... not as bad as the Dolphins management though.

A huge snowstorm going to hit Ohio in the next hour and last through tomorrow. I'm about to be snowed in.

Better get some liquor on the way home from work!

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82622c84/article/ability-to-adapt-makes-mccoy-chudzinski-the-future-of-nfl-

Thought you guys would find this very interesting...

OH...yea, the Browns was a stretch.
Guess I could have said the Bucs...they had so much going for them and now they too are cellar dwellers.
All that talent and Josh Freeman had a horrible year.

Spiderman, LOL!! Don't let it get to you my friend. Here in Montreal, it's in the -20's (Celsius). Fuc***g cold!! And it gets dark at 16:45PM. Yuk!!

The longer this takes the more it looks like Cam Camaron Part 2

Montreal, I'm not really interested in the next HC. But when I read reports that Miami is looking to draft linemen with the first pick, and I know what that means to the continuation of mediocrity, that Ireland seems to be ok with, then the only hope I have is a new HC, who sees the bones left in the wake of the other, failed HC's, who may not want that to be him, pressuring Ireland to get him an IMPACT player.

Ultimately you're right, an HC will have limited affect (San Fran would have been damn good without Harbaugh, maybe not this far good, but pretty good). I'll be able to tell you after the 1st round of this year's draft if we're going to have a winning or losing Season. Stay tuned.

Don't you People have anything to do, after work? Giiizzz

DC, everything you read about drafting a lineman and all that stuff is BS...Think about it...How can any GM in the league know who they're going to draft (ok, aside from the Colts) when free agency hasn't even started yet...I don't buy that stuff...Let's say the Dolphins sign up Carl Nicks...You think they go o-line with their first pick? Or DeSean Jackson? Would they draft a WR in round 1 if they sign Jackson? Probably not. Talking draft at this time of the year is way too early.

I heard they have not made a decision yet!

Montreal, LOL! You might as well live in the North Pole.

dc im impressed, when did u turn to this side of u, your with me now seeing how bad this franchise has become
