Fisher expected to decide which team he'll coach today

I believe today will be a franchise defining day.

Jeff Fisher, who has been weighing whether to take the head coach job in Miami or St. Louis, is expected to make a decision which team, if either, he would like to work for in 2012. Let me be more clear: I am not reporting Fisher will be named coach of either team today.

I am reporting that, according to one source that thus far has been spot on, the coach is finalizing his choice of teams today. Following that decision, I am supposing here, Fisher will tell his agent which direction he's going and negotiations will get going on a contract and various other details.

I do not know what Fisher's decision will be. But it's obvious that whatever he decides will define the direction of both the Dolphins and Rams for years to come.

The winning team will be regarded to be hiring the hotest, most experienced coach on the market. That team will get a head coach who is going to piece together a star-studded coaching staff. That team's credibility will get an instant boost without even one game under the new coach being played.

The team that loses the Fisher sweepstakes will be regarded as having to hire a secondary choice. That team will be rightly seen as having lost out. That team will have to answer to its fan base questions such as, "What is it about you that was deemed to be lacking in this derby.'

It's entirely possible the team not getting Fisher gets a coach that some day in the future does better work than Fisher. But that won't be the narrative now. The narrative now will be that the losing team, well, lost out.

So how do I know Fisher is scheduled to choose today. Well, since the start of this entire saga I've gotten half a dozen e-mails from people claiming to be close to Fisher or his family or his closest friends. One of these people has provided rock-solid information. And that person tells me today is the day he was told Fisher is making his call.

We'll see what happens. I'd expect something to leak before the end of the day is over and definitely by tomorrow as to where Jeff Fisher is going.

Nevermind Admiral.

sorry guys let the b go he is using the phins for more $$$$ from the rams

yea where the is armando no updates what a loser

Yes Yesterday's Gone! That's Our sacrificial lamb.Marty could truely sabotage 2012 for Us so We have a higher draft in 2013.Brilliant Yesterday's Gone.Brilliant I tell you!

Yeah Ozkar,

Marty Schottenheimer will be absolutely brilliant. We'll win 3-4 games and get the 2nd overall qb in Landry Jones.

The bad news is, it'll probably equate to using the 2nd overall pick on Chad Henne. Both play with ZERO fire.

Where are all the cheers and high fives now that Jeff Fisher is Our new head coach?
I've become disenchanted with the Miami Dolphins. It's going to take alot for me to ever forgive my beloved franchise for passing on Drew Brees TWICE.
My passion for The Miami Dolphins will be optimistic and patient with Fisher as Our new skipper.
Awwright Miami!!!!

Fisher says yes and I predict the Dolphins will be 10-6 next year.

your predictions also tell of Landry and inept henne being the same horse. Not very tantalizing Yesterday's Gone!

I have no time for such trifles. We are trying to prevent Nuclear War in the Middle East.

Sorry, didn't you were G-men poser too!

oscar - the Admiral has something for you to nuke.

I predict Fisher wont get an ounce of productive sleep tonight. This heavy decision will play on his mind tonight like a one man band.

Jeff, if you really wanna get a night of restful sleep, you better make Thursday your deadline.

oscar canosa I thoroughly enjoyed reading your lil' brother's post.Great kid.Do you-all just call him JIM or does he also get called Lil' Jimmy.Whatever, just having post more often.A must read!

Not only the Athletes but the Kids from today seem to be also, bigger, stronger...smarter...than us....Parents. (they think)

Your lil' brother is pretty sharp though.

Solid coach with a year of reflection under his belt.

Yeah, he can write...

MANDO check this out it's being reported on nationalfootballpost.com that ross has offered fisher 8 million a year and executive vp that would put him over ireland when it comes to personal alright miami!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on now oscar canosa, don't understimate JIM!

Yeah, he's pretty sharp...

Sounds like Mr.Ross is yet again going all-in for the good of Our franchise.Go Dolphins.GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I didn't mean that kind of sharp oscar canosa.
I met that his got his head and heart in the right place. Cute kid.

Once again the entire league (including playoff teams) are making moves and Miami is sitting on their rumps with their thumbs up their you know whats.

Its already getting horrible. Ireland needs to go and go badly.

All the non playoff teams are already making moves, hiring coaches, getting stuff together and ready for the offseason. Miami is not. Once again they are doing nothing but wasting time and counting pennies.

Not sure about TS as OC for the Jets. Probably a tactical move against us on their part.

There might be a cure for insanity but is there one for stupidity ty?

So signing two Canadian league players is doing nothing? Educate yourself.

I wouldn't fret it oscar canosa. We're a perenial mediocre team. Our vaunted playbook hasn't been compromised.

When this team finally got things sorted out, they finished 6-3. That translate out to roughly 11-5. Some very good indications of what this talent pool is capable of.

You have to remember, Matt Moore had no off season or first team reps when he was called upon. Improvement from him should be guaranteed.

The defense finished up pretty impressively. Especially when you consider that first week against the pats. Brady pretty much buried us at last place in every statistical category. This defense bounced back and established itself as a force.

Mant were stupetified as to how their record could be so bad.

My point is this, add in a Coach that isn't content with field goals. A coach that knows how to simply use time outs, a two minute offense, a half time to make adjustments. A Coach that isn't content to nurse 3 and 7 point leads.

Just a decent coach alone gets to status of a playoff contender. That's aside from another off season, free agency and a good draft. The coaching move ALONE puts us over the top. I for one, am feeling very optimistic about the upcoming year.

Do you remember how good Daboll seemed after 3 years of Hennings? How good Moore seemed after 2 years of Henne?

Well, I have a feeling Fisher is going to seem like Lombardi after 4 years of Tony SpOrano!

AwwwwwwwwwwwwwwRiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight MIAMI!!!!

PS: Armando! C'Mon MAN!!!!

Has Ireland been fired yet?

Yes, ozcar, still we are forced to change some things.

What things oscar,she of the gray-headed kind,canosa?

I suppose when I wake up tomorrow we will have an answer.

Why do people give Odin a hard time. He speaks politely to most and knows phins football very well. he has a twisted since humor but twisted fits in this place.

Keep fighting the good fight odin. Nice post at 11:27. The Phins are going to be tough this year.

I will go watch my favorite TV serial on Hulu plus now. GN.

It's just a matter of logistics before It's oficial that Jeff Fisher is the next great name to become gm/head coach of the my beloved Miami Dolphins.whoopee.Carpetbagger.

Thank You Mr. Beans(I think)-LOL.

The Phins have a solid foundation and are slowly adding playmakers.

Barring some kind of Bone Hawking catastrophies, I see them taking a major step forward this off season.

Add in a good Head Coach and the same/or better offensive and defensive coordinators and we put some fear in our opponents.

Add a few more playmakers and some **WORTHY** depth and were making the playoffs for the next 5 years.

PS: Fisher needs to ween himself off of the Vagasil and get to fvcking work!

Mark Davis deserves the benefit of the doubt, for now

Posted by M ike F lorio on January 11, 2012, 10:16 PM EST

Our good friend Mike Silver of Y ahoo! S ports has penned yet another intriguing and thought-provoking item. This one focuses on the possible reasons for the termination of Raiders coach Hue Jackson.

Silver’s theory is that Jackson knew too much about how poorly late owner Al Davis used to treat his son, Mark Davis, and that Mark Davis wants to remove from the organization anyone with direct knowledge of those interactions. “To project an image of authority,” Silver writes, “Mark Davis needs to surround himself with employees who didn’t see him routinely disparaged and condescended to by his legendary father.”

Silver believes that Mark Davis is the classic Chris Farley (pictured) character known simply as “Tommy Boy,” and that Mark Davis couldn’t stomach “the thought of presiding over a team with a brash, intelligent and charismatic coach who knew how dismissively his father used to treat him.”

It’s funny and it’s fresh and it’s clever, but it’s also quite possibly dead wrong.

Tommy Boy is running the Raiders! How fitting for Al Davis's Legacy. They should hire David Spade as their new Head Coach.

Nick Mangold wants teammates to “Man up and put your name to it”

Posted by M ichael David S mith on January 11, 2012, 5:32 PM EST

After reading anonymous quotes from some of his teammates ripping Mark Sanchez and saying they’re rather play with Peyton Manning, Jets center Nick Mangold has had enough.

Mangold took to Twitter on Wednesday to take issue with his unnamed teammates who told the New York Daily News that Sanchez is “lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched.”

“This,” Mangold tweeted, with a link to the Daily News article, “is false. If ‘unnamed sources’ want to attack Mark, man up and put your name to it.”

Mangold makes a fair point: If you’re a player on the Jets, and you want the Jets to get better, anonymously attacking Sanchez through the media is not the right way to go about it. A couple of Jets players have manned up and put their names on their comments, including backup quarterback Greg McElroy and running back LaDainian Tomlinson. But much of the criticism from within the Jets has come from people who didn’t put their names behind that criticism. It’s not surprising that Mangold is unhappy about that.

I read this and all I could think of was poor Tony SpOrano.

I wonder if he realizes he's just become a deck hand on the Titanic?

2 QB's in Dolphins history have throw for 300+ yards in a game. Henne & Marino.
Penny never did.
Moore never did.
moore has never beaten a winning team at the NFL level.
Yes Moore has, he beat the Giants keeping them out of the playoffs, he also knocked new orleans kept them out of the playoffs. Thats just 2 that jump out of my memory, those 2 games he beat hmm, lets see some QB named Manning and Brees..not sure if they are any good or not...of course this while with the Panthers.

Odin, you're ridiculous. "Fisher needs to ween himself off the Vagisil." Hilarious

I'M CONVINCED Kris was right all along.

Except it's worse then either him or I even imagined.

Apparently Fisher is like that F at U gly C hick that some poor Drunk knocked up when he was WAY TO BLITZED!

Not only is she a Drama Queen Prima Donna Wanna Be, she's out for vengence upon all those that d oinked her and FIRED her F at N asty A ss!

During his time in Tennessee, Jeff Fisher didn't mind an occasional mind game with the media to keep them on their toes.

Fisher apparently is still sharp in that regard, as he is keeping the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams in suspense as to which vacancy he will take.

N F L Network reported that Fisher appears to be leaning now toward the Dolphins, who are willing to give him the title of executive vice president, a title he held in Tennessee, and one that would allow him authority over general manager Jeff Ireland in the personnel pecking order.

Fisher, according to what sources indicate to NFP, could be in line to make upwards of $8 million a year on a contract for five years from Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. There have been reports that while Fisher was previously leaning toward the Rams, the possibilility of the team going back to Los Angeles is something he wants no part of, having been coach of the Houston Oilers during their transition to becoming the Tennessee Titans.

Fisher's one criteria that might not be met in Miami is a franchise quarterback in place. The Dolphins have journeyman Matt Moore, who played well over the second half of the season, but it not proven yet for the long haul.

To Be Continued...........................

At least Ms. Fisher will make history. She'll be the first female B e-atch to ever be a Head Coach in the NFL.

Ms. Fisher, wipe off the vagisil and make up your mind you wishy washy B e-atch!

She's starting to remind me of this Be-atch I was gonna buy a house for once. Gave a little too much attention and tried to be nice to her. Suddenly the B e-atch gets all greedy and self centered. Suddenly, she's the Queen of F vcking Sheba!

At this point, I'm thinking SpOrano would be better than this h ormonal b e-atch!

Like he didn't know offers would be forthcoming. Like he hasn't had a week to decide. Can you imagine this S he-M ale having to make a quick decision late in the 4th quarter of a big game?

No thanks! Not anymore. I almost got married once, thank G O D I came to my senses.

Get us a M ALE Head Coach!

Mr. Ross, tell the woman the one word they hate to hear the MOST.

Just say NO to Ms. Fisher!

(Whew! That's better!)

I just Googled Jeff Fisher looking for an update.

I got a Headline that read:

She can't make up her mind.

Wait.........wait........that's not the funny part. They weren't talking about which team SHE was going to Coach.

They were talking about what SHE was going to wear to the press conference!

Just say NO to Ms. Fisher!!!!

This pisses me off so much, it really makes me think.

I can't believe I'm NOT in Prison!

Fvcking laws in this Country!

The Dolphins are willing to give Her the title of executive vice president, a title she held in Tennessee, and one that would allow her authority over general manager Jeff Ireland in the personnel pecking order.

Ross is also willing to pony up upwards of 8 million per year for five years.

Mr. Ross,

Throw in a subscription to the Lifetime Channel and the Oprah Winfrey Network.

If that's not enough, offer the Be-Atch a lifetime supply of Midol and Vagisil! That oughta do the trick!

God I hope Ireland doesn't ask her if she's ever been a prostitue.

Well, I've spewed enough venom for one night.

With all of us Dol-Fan's future happiness hanging in the balance, this little Be-atch can't make up her mind between Fishnets and Fvck Me Pumps or Stilletos and a Mini Skirt!

(I feel like Archie Bunker right now)

And ah, what are you doing right now?

Are you available?

Why don't you stop by.

I could use a dumb shyt to take my frustrations out on right about now.

Mando, 'bout time for that update on Zimmer's interview dontcha think?

We're all ready to hear a pin drop.

My shop is closed down for the winter(as far as the IRS is concerned) and I'm drawing partial unemployment because I'm all call with the county for towing and snow removal.

Were getting ready for rehersals at 3:00am because we have a paying job coming up.

What about it? WTF are YOU doing?

That's what I thought-LOL ;)

Or maybe Jeff will finally make it out of the iHop he's been stuck in for the past week trying to figure out which syrup he wants on his pancakes...

Would getting Fisher screw us up in trading for the #2 pick and getting RGIII?
If I had the choice between the 2, SCREW FISHER!, I'm going for RGIII...

Losing out on Fisher may look bad, but be good. I don't care what the coaches name is, as long as we win. Fisher only had 6 winning seasons out of 17. Sign someone else. He obviously is waiting for the Colts to figure out their coaching situation. He is looking for a team to get HIM to the show. I want a coach that wants to get US to the show, not one that expects US to get him there.

Fisher is coming to Miami - He is just negotiating while he has the power to keep the decision in secret so that Ross will give him the executive vice president tittle and job so that he can make the final decisions on personnel. It is obvious to me that he wants that control and does not fully trust the decisions our GM makes. I like that and I hope he gets that additional job title and that he keeps Ireland straight. Fisher asked for 7 Million and let’s face it if and that is a big if the rams owner agrees to give him that much salary Fisher still would have to pay 14% of that to the state of Missouri in state taxes. So the Miami has a 14% salary advantage. Then there is the weather to consider – snow and lousy weather or sunny S Florida. Plus where will he retire eventually probably S Florida so this gets him here now. There are just too many pluses for selecting Miami. Some say that the fact we do not have a great QB will affect his decision. I do not think so. I think he knows we are close – maybe 6 players away from being in the playoffs. So he wants to get to another Super Bowl and win it so he can go out a winner. He has a better chance here than in St Lois So there you have it folks …………..a thorough analysis that culminates in Fisher will pick Miami tomorrow right after he is guaranteed having control over Ireland. I think he will be good for our team especially if he can control Ireland. He will make a trade for a higher pick to get a franchise QB just look at the way he coached. 4th and one hell lets go for it. Sparano same decision to make would Punt. So Fisher is not afraid to try and shoot for the stars meaning he will go all out to get the QB if he feels that is the best way to go. I am just afraid that we might not be able to trade up to get RG3. If we are not able to get RG3 then let’s not despair, with Moore’s play this second half of the season I for one would not be so quick to say he is only a backup. Give him next year to develop. We might be very happy with him. We might be OK with Moore for now if we miss on RG3 and let’s go for the receiver that will be easier to get and make almost as much or more impact immediately on this team. The QB’s will go 1 and 2 this year RG3 will be picked second or third draft position for sure, so if we cannot trade up to that spot then let's get realistic and look at what do we need. We need offensive weapons (WR and or TE) and so let’s bolster our offense and the best way to do that is to get a great receiver and there are 2 available Justin Blackmon and Alshon Jeffery with our pick.(8th or 9th) Either one would be a great addition to the dolphins.
