Fisher expected to decide which team he'll coach today

I believe today will be a franchise defining day.

Jeff Fisher, who has been weighing whether to take the head coach job in Miami or St. Louis, is expected to make a decision which team, if either, he would like to work for in 2012. Let me be more clear: I am not reporting Fisher will be named coach of either team today.

I am reporting that, according to one source that thus far has been spot on, the coach is finalizing his choice of teams today. Following that decision, I am supposing here, Fisher will tell his agent which direction he's going and negotiations will get going on a contract and various other details.

I do not know what Fisher's decision will be. But it's obvious that whatever he decides will define the direction of both the Dolphins and Rams for years to come.

The winning team will be regarded to be hiring the hotest, most experienced coach on the market. That team will get a head coach who is going to piece together a star-studded coaching staff. That team's credibility will get an instant boost without even one game under the new coach being played.

The team that loses the Fisher sweepstakes will be regarded as having to hire a secondary choice. That team will be rightly seen as having lost out. That team will have to answer to its fan base questions such as, "What is it about you that was deemed to be lacking in this derby.'

It's entirely possible the team not getting Fisher gets a coach that some day in the future does better work than Fisher. But that won't be the narrative now. The narrative now will be that the losing team, well, lost out.

So how do I know Fisher is scheduled to choose today. Well, since the start of this entire saga I've gotten half a dozen e-mails from people claiming to be close to Fisher or his family or his closest friends. One of these people has provided rock-solid information. And that person tells me today is the day he was told Fisher is making his call.

We'll see what happens. I'd expect something to leak before the end of the day is over and definitely by tomorrow as to where Jeff Fisher is going.

who was it?

american,
yes they did. The interviewed the def coord of arizona for rooney rule. I think his name is horton.

dusty likes to ignore the fact that Fisher only had 2 winning seasons in his last 7 years.

The Dolphins could skip having a coach this season and would get to 8-8 on their own.

Jesus! its Fisher, not Fischer. He's not German.

thanks Boulderfinfan

Yeah, the Rams interviewed a black coach already. No worries there.

lol

About the previous blogs & this Odin character insisting he is right. When everyone is telling you you're wrong, it's prbably a good idea to stop this lame show you try to put on.

Making fun of everyone, acting like you are smart or smarter, the condescending talk.....will not change how dumb you appear. Let it go & move on!

You need to pull a Billy Madison & see if they'll let you back to 1st grade to brush up on your math skills. Apparently, it didn't take the first time around.

american infidel,

They interviewed Ray Horton DC from AZ.

Hey we won the Parcells derby over Atlanta 4 years ago, how did that work out for us. Sometimes the second choice is the better choice. Lets see what happens but I am not going to cut my wrists if we do not get a coach that has a .542 winning percentage in the regular season and a .455 playoff percentage. If he goes to St. Louis it might not be the worst thing. We won the Saban and JJ sweepstakes and neither of those produced anything but loses and setting the franchise back even further. I bet Ireland is hoping he goes to St. Louis as he will get to keep his job then.

The real good news today is that Sparano went to the Jests and will now set their offense back 20 years. They had better sign a good FG kicker because that is Tony's best offensive play. Good Luck Tony trying to make Sanchez into Henne. LOL.

@Search this!!

haha! and i think I started it a few blogs ago by saying I couldn't believe how many people were getting it wrong........apparently he took offense to it with his drunken rage

Well crap, it IS Fisher, not Fischer. My bad. Could be because I AM German. :)

The Dolphins could skip hiring a coach and they would still go 8-8 next year. We don't need Fisher to do that. Of course, ANYONE hired as coach will be touted as a genius by Miami fans when the Dolphins go 8-8.

Interview HUE JACKSON
I think an interview with Jackson would be a smart move.

sam lets hope sparano tells them to sign henne, now that would be awesome

hue jackson is retarded. first deals a treasure away for palmer. then quits running the ball at 7-4 and throws every down only to finish 1-4 and out of playoffs

We should just hire Hue Jackson. Given NFL history, he has the best opportunity to win a Superbowl with his next team. The guy is a pistol, says whats on his mind, and is not averse to raising hell. Guy is still pissed off. Hire him.

Yeah, but Hue wasn't smart about how he handled his business. I read a good write-up on that situation at ProFootballTalk. 1st year coaches shouldn't be trying to make power plays like he did with new owners.

dusty bottoms,

Um, Hugh Jackson wasn't the GM - he didn't trade anything.

In fact, his complaint was he wanted more say because the FO screwed him this season. Embarrassing a FO will get you fired every time. In Miami, we need our FO to be embarrassed; they largely suck.

Hue Jackson would be a breath of fresh air after all the lying, secretive, and full of crap coaches we have had here.

Dusty.....

Hue didn't DEAL away anybody....that's the GM's job......

We wouldn't want to confuse the two separate responsibilities.....

Best news today won't be about Fisher, it's been that Sparano will be the Jets OC. That means we really only have 1 team to worry about to win our division. The Jets will learn the power of a field goal. Basically, all we'll need to do is score 2 TDs and can probably rest our starters rest of the game to beat the Jets.

Thank God he's gone, and THANK GOD he's still in our division. Mando can wish him all the best he wants. I wish him nothing but humiliation and disaster.

Good news for Wake, time to eat up the Jets oline next year!

Interview Mike Gundy from Ok State. The guy will be the hottest coach on the scene in the next 2 years. He is a young Urban Myer with a more pro style offense.

How the hell is Fisher a retread? Some of these people are sooo dumb!

Nolan's definitely gone if Fisher is hired. Fisher is a 4-3 guy and Nolan is 3-4.

I do not know what Fisher's decision will be. But it's obvious that whatever he decides will define the direction of both the Dolphins and Rams for years to come.
____________________________________________________________

Armando, Why would his decision define a team for years to come? Fisher will coach for 3 years at around 7 or 8 million a year and be done just like Johnson, Saban and VP Parcells.
No one wants to do 18 to 20 hour days. These high profile coaches take the money and run. Both Huizenga and Ross can afford these take the money and run coaches. They shape the franchise with their power, take the money and move on leaving the organization in a dysfunctional mess. Does anyone really think that Fisher will stay with the Rams or Dolphins for seven years at 7M per year!

Dunno about you but I'm tired of waiting for this guy to make up his mind and delaying our own process.

Tune in to Jeff FIsher's "The Decision" on ESPN later tonite.

He won't here. Don Shula in his prime couldn't survive 3 seasons in Miami with the fans we have.

Hugh Jackoff was the GM because Al davis died. Al died and was the GM so nobody was there to take his place so jackoff was the one making the trades. Now they hired an actual GM and he wants his own guy there so he fired jackson.

Fissure!
Fist Pump!
Futile!
Phins!

Slam,

Wrong. Mark Davis made the calls, not Hue Jackson.

Stupidity of fans are not just limited to Miami. There are equal parts stupid across the nation.

So slam....you think he pulled that off ALL by himself.....Final authority.....

Fischer brings instant credibility, yes. But we also know what we're going to get from him. Possible playoffs every year (thumbs up) and flirting with a SB (thumbs up) but we aren't going to get a GB or NE kind of team with him. If we get a McNair (RGIII?) we'll be fine, if we get a Vince Young (RGIII?) then we're all going to be severely disappointed.

What does Fisher bring to US? What plan? Which direction will he take the team? {NOT sold on Fisher}.

LEak baby Leak!!!

What a diva!

Right or wrong, perception is reality for a fan base (especially when they're expected to reach for the their wallets and buy tickets). I think if Ireland got fired, the great majority of fans would be fired up............regardless of who the coach is.

There is more negativity about Ireland staying, then any positive reaction about who is coming in.

Between his link to Parcells, the Dez Bryant embarrassment, his back-stabbing of Sparano, never talking to the media and fans, the misses in the draft and free agency and his unlikable personality, Ireland is an absolute cancer for the organization from a fan perception standpoint. It don't think any new coach is going to fire up the fan base as long as Ireland stays.

First year HC doing double duty.....

OK slam.....

I got a bridge I want to sell you.....what's your email address so we can talk.....

Colts hired a new GM today. I expect him to fire Caldwell immediately and make a last second push for Fisher. I think Fisher takes the Indy job. I think he's been waiting for it.

Would rather see someone other than Foscher come here, though I wouldn't be too disappointed if he did. Would like to see someone new take us somewhere than a retread but ultimately i just want to win the f'n super bowl regardless of who's coaching

I have a source (everyone on every sports show) that told me Fissure would decide today. Oh Brother! Armando, I guess your "Source" just couldn't give you a clue where he's going? That would have been news.

Rams going to interview Chudzinsky.

Fisher needs to make up his damned mind TODAY! We can't be the last team standing with no chair when the music stops. These other teams are getting things in place so the HC can go to the Senior Bowl and start planning their strategies for offseason/next year. We can't wait any longer. Things MUST be settled THIS WEEK!!

We cant be happy about Sparano going to the Jets. Our nightmare continues...

Agreed. We need a man in place ASAP

Yea Hugh Jackson made the Carson Palmer trade people..believe it..he was carsons oc in college or cincinnati and was very familiar with him. He put all his eggs in the basket and traded a 1st and second rounder for him..If he would have made the playoffs he would have kept his job, he didnt and now hes fired. Thats why people in the nfl are risk adverse, like ireland, because when you take a big risk and it doesnt work you get fired! If Ireland would have drafted Matt Ryan and he would have been a bust, Ireland would have been long gone already.

kris,

First of all Parcells DID bring credibility to the franchise after the team went from 1-15 to 11-5. It was the biggest turn around in NFL history. That's a FACT....and regardless of however you want to spin, you can't change that fact. Now you'll tell us it was because Brady went down, because we had an easy schedule and because Pennington fell from the sky. OK....that's your right to feel that way. Doesn't mean others have to feel that way too. The reality is Parcells and company INSTANTLY brought credibility to the franshise after the results they achieved in '08.

Now you would be right to say it didn't last and they made a lot of mistakes from that point on. Can't argue with you there. You might even argue that one year isn't CREDIBILITY....that's your right to feel that way.

Lastly, Hue Jackson was in fact, the person that made the Palmer trade. Do some digging for the details and you will find it was HIM that was contacting Mike Brown at THREE in the morning the day of the deadline to get him to move Palmer to him. I'm not making that up....do a little research. I read it yesterday. It wasn't hard to find. I said at the time it was an 'awful trade' and Peter King reported yesterday that one GM told him it was 'the worst trade he'd ever seen in the NFL'. Make of it what you want but it was a PART of the reason why Hue Jackson was fired. Not the sole reason but part of it.

I think Cowher will go to Indy if that job opens

Kris did you listen to his post game comments. He wanted even MORE power with personel. You cant demand more power of personel when the big trade YOU made during the season is looked at as a failure.

Hmmmm I am a Titans fan and just reading what so many ppl say about Fisher being a amazing coach makes me smile. I should prolly state that I live in STL and hate the Rams with a passion, but want Fisher he since I would be that much closer to meeting him!!!! Besides I hate to admit this, but the Rams do have Sam Bradford so why in the hell wouldn't he want to come here? He has the fomula of a winning team all they needed was a coach that had a clue. I say Fisher needs to go with the Rams so he can get his righfully deserved Super Bowl ring!!! Unless my Titans get it in 2013 LMAO

Wrong. Hue Jackson knew Brown and he knew Carson. His role was to get them to be agreeable to a trade. Mark Davis made that trade. It ain't rocket science.

Coach, who cares. As long as the guy isn't over his head like sparano was technically, then who cares?

I'm much more interested in who the quarterback is. There are a lot fewer quarterbacks than coaches out there and they have have a greater impact on the results.

This is a coach who calls it like he sees it.

Excerpted from Michael Silver.

"I'm not going to shed one tear, because I busted my ass for this organization, and I cherished the opportunity to do it," Jackson said.

Later, Jackson said, "I'm pissed at my team. At some point in time, as a group of men, you go into the game and you can say whatever you want about the coaches, you win the game. I've been taking it all year for this football team. Not anymore."

"I never lost the team. The defense didn't finish, and I said something. But lost the locker room? [Expletive] no."

Mark Davis is the owner not the GM. THe only owner that makes trades in the NFL is Jerry Jones. Im sure he had to approve it but thats why owners hire football guys around them because they are not football guys they are business men. Owners who are football guys(jerry jones, al davis) rarely had gms.

I still say it'll be Fisher in Miami next year. The Rams opportunity isn't the slam dunk opportunity that Peter King and La Confara tried to paint it when this all started or Fisher would have jumped at it. The reality is the Rams are as bad as the Colts and have a TON of work to do to be respectable. I think we'll see Fisher here next year or it'll be Zimmer (probably my second or third choice) or Bowles (a respectable choice too). We'll find out soon enough.

We need a qb or a coach? Really, what is Tebow doing in Denver. He ain't purdy. Who is the coach again? He ain't no genius. But they are in the playoffs.

We need a few peices to win. A game changing sack machine or two, (one draft and FA) a bone jarring free safety, another good young tight end and another good qb. Oh yeah and a right guard and right tackle.

Players are what win. Coaches have to be good but players make them great.

klndry,

Don't knock John Fox. He's a good coach. Would have been a good hire a year ago if we'd fired Sparano then. It's not ALL Tebow. Fox knows how to coach and took the Panthers to the Super Bowl a few years ago.

Does anyone really think that Fisher will stay with the Rams or Dolphins for seven years at 7M per year!

Yeah, if he doesn't get fired. He worked for the Titans/Oilers for 17 years!

What up New Coach Wanted.Remember earlier in the season when you gave Us that inspirational post about considering Rob Ryan as Our next coach. Why has that lost steam? All Our fellow Dolphans ever see is the next retread.Jimmy Johnson was a bust.Nick Saban was a quitter.Bill Parcels pillaged Our decaying franchise. No More Retreads. And as far as RG3.Let's not morgage Our future to move up to get a player that's after fame and adulation than winnning championships.

ONCE AGAIN - BECAUSE IRELAND IS STILL IN PLACE, Fisher won't be in place. I GUARANTEE YOU THAT STUPID DECISION BY ROSS TO KEEP WEASELAND AROUND has cost the phins a chance at a REAL COACH. THEY WILL BE STUCK WITH OTHER INEXPERIENCE COACH.
