Fisher expected to decide which team he'll coach today

I believe today will be a franchise defining day.

Jeff Fisher, who has been weighing whether to take the head coach job in Miami or St. Louis, is expected to make a decision which team, if either, he would like to work for in 2012. Let me be more clear: I am not reporting Fisher will be named coach of either team today.

I am reporting that, according to one source that thus far has been spot on, the coach is finalizing his choice of teams today. Following that decision, I am supposing here, Fisher will tell his agent which direction he's going and negotiations will get going on a contract and various other details.

I do not know what Fisher's decision will be. But it's obvious that whatever he decides will define the direction of both the Dolphins and Rams for years to come.

The winning team will be regarded to be hiring the hotest, most experienced coach on the market. That team will get a head coach who is going to piece together a star-studded coaching staff. That team's credibility will get an instant boost without even one game under the new coach being played.

The team that loses the Fisher sweepstakes will be regarded as having to hire a secondary choice. That team will be rightly seen as having lost out. That team will have to answer to its fan base questions such as, "What is it about you that was deemed to be lacking in this derby.'

It's entirely possible the team not getting Fisher gets a coach that some day in the future does better work than Fisher. But that won't be the narrative now. The narrative now will be that the losing team, well, lost out.

So how do I know Fisher is scheduled to choose today. Well, since the start of this entire saga I've gotten half a dozen e-mails from people claiming to be close to Fisher or his family or his closest friends. One of these people has provided rock-solid information. And that person tells me today is the day he was told Fisher is making his call.

We'll see what happens. I'd expect something to leak before the end of the day is over and definitely by tomorrow as to where Jeff Fisher is going.

Can someone please tell me what has Fisher done??????
This is going to be another disaster for the Miami Dolphins franchise.... HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!! find another coach..... Fisher has DONE NOTHING IMPRESSIVE IN 20YEARS!!!!!!!

Perfect news for the end of the day: Ireland out, Fisher in. Make it happen, Fisher.

I think Daboll is a good OC. What could he do with a franchise QB is really intriguing. I believe I heard a stat during the last game (Jets) that Miami had more 20+ pass plays this year than any other team. So they did this with a QB who supposedly is not a franchise QB, and a receiver who drops more passes than his salary suggest.

Also we all can expect Nolan to be gone. Numerous reports out there indicating Fisher does want Greg Williams as his DC.

JS in LA,

I posted a link directly from NFL.com earlier it only was one of those infamous "sources" things so we'll see.

cosmodo was first, who else what to put their name on it?

AndyNJ, I agree. I dont see Nolan being around. What does that mean on the D side of the ball? any ideas? I know we have a cpl players that fit a 4-3.

If all of the Dolphin hater would stay off this blog I could read all of them in 10 minutes. Bill

Dude, now you're just being ridiculous. I don't look for anyone to agree with me. It wasn't a popularity contest. It wasn't ego-Sheesh. It was simple math.
You two both said 2 + 1 = 2. Yet, we ALL know it equals Thu-Reee!
It's not open for debate Maynard, it's simple math. You guys failed forward fast(snicker, snicker), get OVER IT already ;)

Keep going, it just proves the point. You keep lecturing. You can't stand you got called out by more than a few people. You're harping on it. Why? Lemme help: YOU HAVE AN EGO. A bruised one at that!

Get over it & move on. The more you post about it the dumber & more jaded you look.

Ozkar....

I will wait until the official press conference....

Its pretty simple isn't it Kris and others, we don't believe Fisher is the right guy but if in fact he becomes the coach, we will rally behind him.

Anyway, lets get this news conference over and see what happens. At that point we can begin arguing over every single assistant he announces. And argue over every coach he gets rid of. Then we can argue over who is drafted. And who is kept. And what FA's are chosen.

At that point, we can watch all those who wanted him in the first place rush to desert him because they question his actions.

FYI,
I've heard more than once now on different shows that Jets and Mark Sanchez are getting closer and closer to divorce.
I'm not a Sanchez fan, but I wonder if our FO is.
Don't be surprised to see Sanchez being mentioned in trade rumors. I honestly don't know how to feel about that one. Reminds me way too much of Henne.

He's going Our next hc Kris. I saying but he's choosing the money!

Fisher and Sanchez?

That would be too much... even for me. I would have to turn in my membership card.

I do not want Sanchez!!!! I think he was more of the problem for the Jets than Shotty!!! The running game and defense got them to their AFC Championships!

Unfortunately Kris it appears he is Our new hc.I hate it but We are fans so we must rally around.

Cote just posted talking abuot ESPN radio announcement, that Fischer is choosing Miami. give it a cpl hours/days and Amando will post too.LOL..we usually know first anyway

I think Fisher would want to bring Greg Williams with him if possible.

Having said that though, Head Coaches that have run 4-3 defenses in the past, have went to new teams and kept the 3-4 in place.

Nothing precludes Fisher from doing the same. Nolan has had his ups and downs here in Miami, but overall, not to shabby. Fisher came up the ranks under Buddy Ryan and knows about defense. He might decide Nolan stay and the 3-4 as well. Fisher sees a defense lingering around being tops. He'll probably feel with a little Head Coach induced tweak and another player or two, we could be great.

One less thing he'd have to redo completely.

Keep Nolan and get him a pass rusher, CB and Free Safety!

At worst, he is almost certainly a better coach than Tony, whom I liked, and he will fill some seats in the stadium next year. Neither of those things are bad.

I don't want Sanchez. He's the latino version of chad inept henne.

JS: I hope Sanchez and Dolphins will never go together in a sentence. The fact that players have publicly labeled him "lazy" is almost a kiss of death for his reputation. Who'd bring in a guy with that impression? Jets' seem to have their eyes on Manning already if he's healthy.

#1, Fisher may not be the best candidate but he is smart. Lock them in a room with Ross for a few hours & maybe then Ross will realize how dumb Ireland really is.

Keep him as a talent SCOUT if he wants, that's what he is. But, let someone else make the calls as the GM.

Ozkar....

If Fisher comes for the MONEY...then we are screwed.....

I hope its because he LOVES the FINS...and LOVES the TRADITION...and loves what this team is about....

but if he is here simply because he got a million or two extra...then we will be screwed.....

and thats what I have been trying to get across to the blog today...it seems with ONE exception...we ALWAYS hire the BIG MONEY GUY....

and the only thing it has gotten us is ..the NEXT BIG MONEY GUY....

while other teams hire unknows...and they prosper into the nect BIG NAME coach....in the PRESENT...not in the PAST....where the FINS seem to always look for the NEXT BIG THING....

We are always looking in the PAST for our next SB coach...

why not look into the present..

INSTEAD OF HIRING ANOTHER DUDE WITHOUT HC EXP AGAIN AFT FISHER CHOOSES THE RAMS - the phins need to look a Nolan. At least he has exper and already in the system.

Sanchez needs to go home and open a Taco joint before coming here!!

Thx SEARCH THIS!!! for putting your name on it.

on what?

Fans should support Fisher until he proves otherwise. With all the crap he put up with in Tennessee one would wonder how he won as much as he did.

Sanchez??? Really??

HE BLOW'S!

NO WAY HE COMES HERE AS A BACKUP! That would create a fan mutiny!

finfaneurope,

Like I was saying earlier if my memory serves me correctly Fisher likes disruptive interior linemen who can get pressure. Haynesworth was the exception when he was there both big and disruptive at 6'6 330 or whatever he was but looking at Starks who played 4-3 DT for him previously and Odrick they seem to fit his style from what I see. And he has a history of working with under sized DEs too. Jevon Kearse was in his prime under Fisher and was 6'5 255 but was lean and slim and he also put Jason Babin on the map too who is a 1 dimensinal player so working with Cam Wake won't be a problem at DE.

So a defensive front of

DE - Cam Wake
DT - Randy Starks
DT - Jared Odrick
DE - ????? ?????

The other rush spot can be addressed in Free Agency with plenty of options out there at 4-3 DE from top tier to stop gap to aging veterans with maybe just enough left in the tank:

Mario Williams Texans
John Abraham Falcons
Jason Jones Titants
Robert Mathis Colts
Alex Brown Saints
Juqua Parker Eagles

I find it funny that people dismiss fisher on one hand but promote Marty schottenheimer with the other. What exactly makes Marty better? They are cut from the same cloth and Fisher is a lot younger.

I'm agreeing with the anti-Sanchez-ers. Just throwing it out there as a new thought.
Sounds to me like they'll want to trade him, and who knows who'll be interested.
Personally, I'm not that interested, but we'll see if our FO is.
nothing definite on the trade stuff, just the drums are beating.

Kris, according to ppl around Fischer (and this was reported a while back) Ross's thick wallet is not his point of interest. Sure he wants to get paid. But "Big Money" was NOT going to sway him. So I have to think there are other reasons at work here. I hope.

Get over it & move on. The more you post about it the dumber & more jaded you look.

YEAH, uh, except YOU brought it back up again today-Ha ha ha. I knew that irony would be lost on YOUR ego.

The funny part is, you're exactly what your accusing me and everyone else that calls you out on your dumb sheet, of being.

A ONE more.....a TWO more......a Thuh-Reee more.

You sir, are the zenith of hipocrasy!

Your the reason I've been lounging around the house all day Kris. You've said what many of Us have been thinking. Why do other franchise succeed with unknowns and we constantly chase big names and end up abuse, mistreated and traumatized.

This fiasco is incredibly irresponsible of Miami media. The Dolphins will not have "lost out" if Fisher doesn't sign with the team. They will have avoided mediocrity. Miami beat-writers who continue along on the "bandwagon" are further pressuring Ross to hire another mediocre coach with an overbearing mustache. Get a grip on yourselves and stop swaying the public to pressure Ross to pick the coach that YOU want because it will bring the most media attention. Most of the fans know better and we don't want Jeff Fisher.

Playing devils advocate, what if Cleveland WAS interested in Sanchez?
Or Washington .. so they don't trade up.
Just thinking aloud.

Europe.....

I hope your right....

It looks like I am on the clock to accepting this hire.....

I will look forward to reading a lot of positve post abou Fisher in the near future to help me get on board.....

Like the one from Andy NJ @ 2:37

Keep going Will Hunting! You're on a roll!

Kris......

We have had some debates on here today, but your last post we can agree on.

I too want whoever comes here for it to be for the love of the Fins and their history and to try to make them relevant again.

I think Fisher is that kind of guy, hopefully

•Fisher close to decision; appears coach will choose Dolphins

Jeff Fisher is close to making a decision on his coaching future, according to sources close to the ex-Titans coach, and it appears he will chose the Miami Dolphins.

Fisher could make a decision as early as Wednesday, the sources indicated.

The Dolphins and St. Louis Rams have been waiting on a decision from Fisher, who interviewed with both franchises last week and is the top choice of each. Rams COO Kevin Demoff indicated Monday he expected a decision from Fisher in the next several days.

The Rams have continued to interview candidates while waiting for a decision from Fisher. The Rams had interviewed Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton and will interview first-year Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen this week. The team also received permission to interview Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

Sources have also indicated Fisher isn't interested in a potential relocation and feels more comfortable with the structure in place in Miami than St. Louis.

Playing devils advocate, what if Cleveland WAS interested in Sanchez?
Or Washington .. so they don't trade up.
Just thinking aloud.

LOVE IT! Make it happen, JS!

I'd like to keep Sanchez in the AFC east. Good for at least 1 win a year for us with him throwing to Starks all game!

Since it won't go away, try putting it this way. Thomas cost us two EXTRA picks, three overall; but you have to spend one anyway folks. You can't go in, pick a guy, and say we still want to use that pick for someone else too. Can we please stop moaning about that?

I think all of the comments in RE to keeping the coordinators are, frankly, hilarious.

Any coach, regardless of whether or not it's Fisher or some coordinator is going to pick his own coaching staff. That's the way it's done, period. Any other way, and it would be a deal breaker for the prospective coach, regardless of the whom we're talking about. It would be far more serious than the whole GM thing.....at lest it's fairly normal to have a GM and the coach has no control over whom that GM is....I've never seen a HC not have the authority to bring in his own staff.

If you want the coordinators, then you either wanted to keep Sparano or you want Bowles....otherwise, most will be gone. I'm sure they will all be interviewed...and who knows, maybe Fisher or whomever likes Daboll or something and keeps him on...but ultimately it'll be the HCs decision.

If it's Fisher, no way Nolan stays. He's a 3-4 scheme guy...Fisher is a 4-3 period.

Kris, it has been said today by people close to Fisher that he likes the Dolphins infrastructure and believes it to be more stable than the one barely in place in St. Louis. The other HUGE reason Fisher would choose the Phins is the move. St. Louis is said to be one of 2 or 3 teams that the NFL is looking into moving to L.A. and he already went through one upheaval in Houston. He's not interested in another career stalling move, likes the stability in Miami. Has the #6 defense in the NFL to work with and has Mr. Ross' full support to get any assistant he wants. That is not the case in St. Louis as they are notoriously cheap when it comes to hiring assistants. Ross' pockets run deep and he's willing to spend the money to get the best assistants. He would have for Tony as well but Tony had no connections which is why he promoted a wr coach to be QB coach and hired his no experience son.

Jacka** at the top have you not read that 200 people have already asked the STUPID question "what has Fisher done"? And the answer was more than any of the other coaching candidates have ever done. So when you're going to hire a man to run your company do you A. hire a man who has run a successful company at his last job or
B. hire a man who has never run a company after you just went through 8 years of failure due to hiring men who have never run a company? I know, I know, some of you in here want to stay the course, lets keep hiring new guys because one of these years one of them is bound to take us to the playoffs and win a game.

cosmodo,
If my magic wand of making good things happen for the Fins were working, we wouldn't be in the current fix.
But I'll keep waving it around, maybe a spark will fly out ;)

Hey SEARCH THIS!!! Your the second Fisher advocate to put your name on the "I wanted Jeff Fisher" while wearing a culpepper Miami Dolphins jersey!!

Ozkar....

That has been my point ALL DAY....although not well recieved....it is how I feel about the situation....

We hire the next BIG NAME so much...that it is now expected among the fan base.....

How many times do we have to touch the stove...before we figure out its hot......

NFL.com Reports fisher leaning to miami because of the structure here is better than st. louis....

Thats gotta be a typo...JUST SAYIN!!!!

is it just me or does ozkar REALLY seem to love Kris?

Quote "Your the reason I've been lounging around the house all day Kris"

yikes

sigh, vautsn Nolan has no interest in coaching at this time. It is why his agent isn't taking calls for interviews.

I still can't believe people would actually entertain a Marty Schott... interview.

I can't believe how dumb people on this blog are!!!

Dusty, sorry. But even the anti Fischer people are wanting either Nolan, or Daboll, or both kept. I still dont understand your wanting them fired, when al they did is improve both sides of the ball!!

Is there new people in here every day? Because it sure seems like the same things get talked about and asked every freaking day. Can't be the same people asking the same questions can it?

screw you todd

QB QB QB QB QB QB QB QB BM....BH... GET RID OF THEM..... CANT CATCH THE DONT NEED YOU.. CATCH HALF THEM PASSES WE ARE IN THE PLAY OFFS AND GM. AND COACH THAT KNOWS TALENT WHEN THEY SEE IT......CALL BILL BELACHEAT.... GET SOME POINTERS ON THE DRAFT...... WE SURE DONT KNOW TALENT WHEN WE SEE IT.......U WHEN THREW THE DRAFT NOT FREE AGENTS.......TO MUCH$$$$$$ HELL LOOK AT BM.....ALL THAT $$$FOR WHAT HE SUCKS.... HES A CANCER ON THE TEAM O YEA CATCH THE BALL..DONT FORGET IT WAS SCHEM AND JAY CULTER THAT MADE HIM LOOK SO GOOD AGAIN QB QB QB QB QB FEW PEICES WE GOOD....SPEND THE $$$ ON THE PEICES.......

Kris,

I been there bro. I have seen moves that I haven't been on board with but I think Fisher gives Miami the best chance overall. He is a proven guy, free agents won't snub Miami because of a no frills roster of coaches and I believe his best assett which I argued earlier is developing his defensive players. He also isn't old fashion he thinks outside the box with Steve McNair, Chris Johnson

Random home grown Titans players who made the Pro Bowl under Fisher.

Jevon Kearse DE
Lorenzo Neal FB
Derrick Mason WR
Steve McNair QB
Vince Young QB
Eddie George RB
Chris Johnson RB
Frank Wycheck TE
Jon Runyan OT
Michael Roos OT
Dave Stewart OT
Michael Griffin FS
Samari Rolle CB
Cortland Finnegan CB
Keith Bullock LB

Holy cow...never witnessed a nervous breakdown before...that's disturbing.

Phins78: I'm hoping that a #6 (or #8) ranked defense is a good enough reason for Fisher to keep Nolan. Why change out to a different system and force players through the transition?

200 wins 126 losses.

Whats dumb about that?

Hey Ohio Dolfan, there's websites for your fetishes. This isn't one them.Kris has said what true Miami Dolphins have been thinking about.By the way were you also advocating dante over Brees!
You that Drew that won a SB and MVP.
