Fisher search leads national pundits to question Fins

Even as Jeff Fisher continues to ponder what team he will coach and what team's owner will be his new boss, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is taking it on the chin from national pundits that obviously don't hold him in high regard.

The latest to take a swipe at Ross is Foxsports.com and FOX-TV NFL insider Jay Glazer, who today held a live chat on the website he works for and was asked his thoughts on Ross.

"I think he is a great businessman but doesn't know what he doens't know when it comes to the NFL," Glazer said. "He has no idea the type of effect many of the things he does has. I wouldn't say he's a meddler and he definitely wants to win but he's done some things behind the scenes that has had many inside the league scratching their heads. Going to interview Jim Harbaugh last year while Sparano was still emplyed was ridiculous."

This comes only one day after Peter King of NBC's Sunday Night Football over America and the entire Earth not to mention the inner Planets, was asked on twitter what is the general perception of the Dolphins organization (Ross/Jeff Ireland) around the league?

"Proceed with caution," King answered.

Glazer and King obviously agree.

My thoughts in Bowles (I'm sure you're riveted):
He may end up being a pretty good coach. Who knows. But He concerns for a statistical reason. Guys like him who rise to a position within a certain system are reluctant to blow up that system. Bowles knows who worked hard for him to rise to that position, and would assume probably that those same fellows would be his ticket to future success. He'll dance with the girl he came with. IE, Matt Moore will be his man. I'd go so far to say he won't even draft a QB at all. He'll need an old vet FA to play #2, and that's it. UNTIL... he starts to fail, and THEN he'll push the panic button and change rosters, systems, whatever.
I know some of you like Matt Moore, so maybe you want this. But i don't. So Bowles worries me, despite the fact that he may be a decent prospect. Honestly, I think he'd do better going somewhere else where he can design his own team with no reservations.

IM NOW OFFICIALLY ON THE TODD BOWLES BANDWAGON.

TO ALL....

THE RAMES ARE OUT AS THEY ASKED AND GOT AN OK TO SPEAK TO THE CAROLINA PANTHERS OC....ROB CHUDZINSKI............

It took Eli Manning 4 full seasons to get a QB rating over 77.0.
Make fun of the stats if you want, but you know, sometimes the numbers don't lie.
Moore has posted as good in his early seasons, and that is with being beat up on crappy teams. Some of the problem is coaches don't have time to let players develop as much any more, because if they don't get it done in three seasons, they are OUT! When did Eli last take his team to the play-offs? 3 seasons ago. E-LITE. Eli has become good, he is NOT elite.

Again, compare Eli to his brother, about as close to a unanimous Hall of Famer as there can be:
Eli QB rating career - 82.1
Peyton - 94.9

That stat doesn't lie either.

F Glazer, his rumors suck. And the Harbaugh thing was last yr, let it go, if thats all u got, then u suck. All Ross is is trying to do is build a great team, cant him for that. Id want to work for a guy like that. I rather have a guy whos will to go the extra mile then just sit still. Who is Jay Glzer anyways?

JS LA,

Bowles woudnt have personnel influx powers. So how the hell does he draft a qb?

Make Marino GM and Bowles hc. Bet Marino would draft a qb or make a real qb happen in Miami even if he had to trade away his own mother.

RAMS ARE OUT,THEY R NOT INTERESTED IN THAT FISER THE (( CERTIFIED CELLAR COACH ))............

49ERS had an easy schedule this year. The NFC West is a joke. Harbaugh is getting way too much credit...

Clue,

My basis is Fisher's a .500 hc that will cost $9 million. So why not save %6 million a year by hiring Bowles, who may also only be a >500 hc.

.....And Im hating hell out of Fisher right now.

AGREE W/YG ON THE 9 MILLION THING........

Aloco, Miami interviewed other candidates after fisher too. Are they no longer interested?

Post a link that says the Rams are out. If not, no need to post rumors to garner attn.

If we have a more well respected and successful GM, Fisher would have signed up long ago.

Don't expect potential candidates for any position to forget it anytime soon.

Posted by: SEARCH THIS!!! | January 12, 2012 at 03:15 PM

I don't expect anyone to forget it.

But, the most sought after Head Coach on the market instantly narrowed his search down to US.

FISHER IS OUT AS A HC FOR THE RAMS,HE WILL BE OUR HEAD COAC BY 9;00 PM ...WE R THE VICTIM..........

If this indecision is only between 2 teams can you imagine if 4 or 5 teams wanted him also as a coach?

WE R THE......... VICTIM............FISHER WILL BE OUR HC BY 9;00 PM.......

Any HC is in the war room with their GMs. The GM has the final say, but they do discuss pretty much everything. Sparano and Ireland were married to Henne in their minds, and no amount of statistics or fan disfavor would unroot that. Probably why Henne is being talked about going to the Jets.
Just imagining "tweeks" under a Bowles regime, instead of the new path that I was so counting on to begin the shining future next season.
Smells like ...Jay Feidler and Wanny. Mmm, super-bowl bound.
As I siad, no disrespect to Bowles. He may end up being great. But he worries me.

But, the most sought after Head Coach on the market instantly narrowed his search down to US.

Miami was a long shot early on, now we are the "rumored" front runners. And now potentially the Colts get involved. I would hardly say he's narrowed it down to US.

If he did, why isn't he signed yet?

My last post was intended to answer YG

Fisher is probably upset some of the other NFL jobs did not come available. He is also gonna squeeze every nickle out of who ever he goes with!

Yg, Ross is not paying Fisher 9 million a year. Ill be surprised if he makes more than 6 million. Fisher likes Ireland, but cmon Bowles

THE COLTS WILL NEVER HIRE A PROBLEM COACH LIKE FISHER TO COACH .....LUCK..........

Honestly i'd like Bowles more if he were coming from somewhere else.
It's the status quo that's the turn off.

I agree with Clue on this one. No to Bowles. He had one chance (like Romeo in KC) to win the job. That was to beat the Pats. He failed. Second-half letdown was the same as under Sparano and all the rest of 'em back to Shula. He didn't get aggressive (not sure why with that horrible defense), though he did keep his timeouts (which was a plus).

But, overall, naw, let Bowles walk.

EVERY ONE SHOULD KNOW THAT THE NEXT COACH'S JOB IS JUST TAKE US OUT OF THE CELLAR ......THEN HE WILL BE FIRED .....

I think it's very interesting.....when I first started back up on this blog, the Phins were on a streak, but just about every post was calling for Sparano's head and everyone elses.

Bowles gets 2 of the 6 wins and suddenly he's the man and we have to keep everything in tact....retain all the coordinators, the current system, etc.

I guess interesting is the wrong word....just call me confused.

Does anyone know if we play the Rams next year?

OHIO........YES WE WILL BE PLAYING VS ALL THE CELLAR TEAMS,........

I'm the one who asked Jay Glazer the question about Ross on his live chat today.

He was very diplomatic about his answer, but I could tell he wanted to say more.

-Rob

"whatever. the guy is committed to putting things right. he may not be doing it the right way but at least he's committed to fielding a good team and not just profitting from the business side."

Posted by: dolfanSF | January 12, 2012 at 02:51 PM

For once, I will agree with that sentiment. I truly believe though, that if you don't know how to dance, you'll have a hard time on the dance floor.

wolfman13,
I believe those same folks probably feel we're one RT away from the superbowl. We probably don't even need the rest of our draft picks after.
Don't be confused. Be afraid - very afraid.

Only reason I say Bowles is because none significantly better is available and Fisher's solid at best.

The real problem with this team rest with gm and most importantly of all, ownership. IMO, until we get a real owner, no matter what move we make, we're just putting lipstick on the pig.

wolfman13,

Not sure if this was mentioned or not but Mike Smith and Billick are borther-in-laws. First time I have heard Billick's name actually mentioned as a candidate for anything in a very long time. Assuming he could keep his ego in check, it would actually be a good hire.

YG,
Sorry but there isn't any owners in the first round of the draft to pick from.
And we apparently aren't interviewing any either.
So perhaps we can concentrate on realistically finding a respectable HC, and dig up some playmakers.
Oink ;)

There isnt a knockout hc candidate out there this year. The hc market this year makes Fisher look like Vince Lombardi. Problem is the bum has 5 playoff appearances in 17 seasons.

Irelandsucks -

In RE to the 49ers "easy schedule"....not really that easy. Yes, the division is bad, but they also played a number of good teams and a number of playoff teams. They also had to travel coast to coast 5 times and won all but one of those games.

Coast to coast:
@ Cincinatti (W)
@ Philly (W)
@ Detroit (W)
@ Washington (W)
@ Baltimore (L)

They also beat a very good NY Giants team and the Steelers at home.

Other than the division itself, a pretty brutal schedule if you ask me. Had the Phins had the same, no doubt they'd be drafting Luck.

yg,

I see your 'hottest head coaching prospect out there' got the job as OC for the Jets. You must be VERY happy for him. Maybe next year is the year he'll be the 'hottest head coaching prospect out there'.

YG......... CRAIG M IS HERE.....PLEASE SOME THING NICE TO HIM ......

PLEASE SAY SOME THING NICE TO HIM....

DC, romeo didn't win his last 3 games either. Bowels beat the jets, the bills and was a fumble snap away from beating the pats. The team is not that far off. Blowing it up will only delay us getting back to playoffs.

Yesterday, although Ross has made a few mistakes, I think Ireland is the bigger problem.

The owner should not be making so many statements. They are businessmen, not football men. It's the GM's job to be fielding questions about the team & it's coaches IN PERSON.

Not through Press Releases!

'Something nice to him'. How's that, ALoco?

yg, apologies man. I had you pegged as SEARCH THIS!! I figured out now who it was but wrongly accused you of it. Sorry man...

You can't get rid of Ross so stop with that lala fantasy. Focus on the coach and QB. That's what this team needs.

Posted by:wolfman13 January 12, 2012 at 03:39 PM

No i don't think you're confused. I can respect your decision.

I just think right now is not the time to blow up the coaching staff.

Bringing in an extremly experienced coach like Marty could be what this team needs.

And real Qb competiton doesn't hurt either.

For those who haven't already read the ESPN "newsflash" yet...
Fisher's delay is not about leverage, and he says he hasn't received any offer from either of us.
Ok, back to your lives citizens.

By the way, Glazer was not saying Ross was wrong to pursue Harbaugh.

He said he was wrong to pursue him while Sparano was still on the job, that's all.

Excellent point.

The knockout candidate is the one that wins games and puts the team in Playoff contention.

Said another way, it's ANYONE'S FREAKIN' GUESS!!!

Vince Lombardi was well-thought of, but I don't think he was a "knockout candidate" when he went to Green Bay.

Bill Belichick wasn't a "knockout candidate" when he went to the Patriots.

Jimmy Johnson WAS a "knockout candidate" and did nothing in Miami.

Future success doesn't necessarily correlate to past success in the NFL.

I have a question. How does everyone know, without a doubt, that jeff ireland is so inept? He doesn't make himself available to the public to know how he sounds.Or what his thinking is.Truth is,this past draft wasn't bad at all. What he is,is private, and he needs to man up a little more. But inept,i don't think so.

BE THAT NITED IN THE HISTORY BOOKS,,,,,, CRAIG M HAS SAID SORRY TO YG AND EXTENDED HIS HAND WITH AN OLIVE BRANCH,,,,,,GOOD MAN.....''''

NOW IT'S YG TURN , HE MUST SHOW CLASS AND RESPECT FOR CRAIG M AND ALL OF US WHO LOVE TO READ BOTH .

Paul Glazer needs to stick to what he is good at and that is "NOTHING". I feel that Ross is going to do whatever it takes to turn this club around. I agree he could have handle the Jim Harbaugh issue better. He should have fired Sprano last year and hired Todd Bowles. Remember this is a business and the faint hearted shouldn't listen or watch. I am not a big fan of Jeff Fisher, because he is the same old recycled crap that we don't need. He wants too much money and isn't worth it. What we need is new blood, someone who is offensive minded and demands respect from this Dolphins team. I also don't want someone to come in and tear this team apart. We need a few more pieces like a RT, TE, CB, Starting QB (FLYNN, WR, RUSHING LB. Then this team will be competitive and go to the playoff. Also I feel Jeff Ireland has done a good job. Stop wishing for something that will make things worse. GO DOLPHINS

Who cares what Jay Glazer has to say. He's an entertainer....jokester. Very little credibility.

It's Fisher or Zimmer or Bowles in my book. Time was up on Sparano...wasn't working. Time for a new boss. Any of these guys would be a good change.

We have an owner who's a great businessman but doesn't know sh** about football and we also have a clueless GM. Man, are we set for the future or what?

Anybody ever watch 'Storage Wars'?

Desperate bidders rolling the dice on other peoples garbage...

DC,
True. And oddly enough, both Dungy and Cowher were on the serious hotseat until they won with their respective MVP Qbs.
If Cowher hadn't won the Super-bowl that year, he was probably going to be fired.
Dungy was kicked out of TB, then lucked with Peyton.
No telling who will step up.

PAUL Glazer?????......I thought that was STARSKY (for those of you old enough to remember). PHINPHAN, I think you're getting them confused.

Now if PAUL Glazer had something to say on the subject, I WOULD listen.....

FLASH: Rams are interviewing Rob Chudizuski for their open HC position

NHFINSFAN......... WE KNOW ,,,,,,,, RAMS DIDN'T OFFER ANY THING TO FISHER ,THEY DIDN'T LIKE WHAT THEY SAW .

Wouldn't it be crazy in this feeding frenzy if the Dolphins had already decided they weren't interested in Fisher.

"This is not about money," the source said. "This is not about negotiating. This is about winning."

FYI, this kid don't quit!

Craig, 2 other names made fun of you on the last blog. You may want to investiage them!

Pretty funny that I have had civil football related convo's with everyone except you. Yet, I'm still your target!

You can be a man, look in the mirror & acknowedge you have a personality issue or continue acting like a toddler. I'm sure I know what you'll choose.
