Jeff Fisher picks Rams over Dolphins

Jeff Fisher has decided to join the St. Louis Rams as their head coach, The Miami Herald has confirmed through various club and NFL sources.

Fisher seemed headed to the Dolphins throughout the day Wednesday but intense negotiations with the Dolphins, particularly club owner Stephen Ross on the power structure of the organization could not be resolved so Fisher opted to go to St. Louis.

According to an NFL source close to Fisher, Ross was not willing to give Fisher power over the entire football operations, including veto power of decisions by general manager Jeff Ireland.

[Update 1: A club source tells me Fisher never requested full authority over the Dolphins. Source says club's understanding was that Fisher and Ireland would work together, agreeing mutually on personnel.]

Obviously, given the contradictory stories coming from the Dolphins and the source who is in the Fisher camp, the two sides were apparently not speaking the same language here. Either that or someone is fibbing.

That leaves the Dolphins, who hoped to lure Fisher to become their coach, scrambling to recover from yet another disappointment following a season filled with disappointments.

Fisher, through representatives, informed the Rams he had picked them to succeed the fired Steve Spagnulo. Fisher is expected to sign a contract by the weekend. Contract details remain sketchy.

Fisher's also informed the Dolphins he would be going to St. Louis and thanked the Dolphins for considering him. Fisher spoke with Ireland directly. The Dolphins interviewed with Fisher last week and were hoping to make him the 10th coach in the franchise's history.

So where does this leave the Dolphins?

The team must quickly rebound and continue a search for a new coach. The club has already interviewed Green Bay offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, Cincinnati defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and Chicago special teams coordinator Dave Toub.

The Dolphins are expected to expand their coach search. Among the candidates are former Texas Tech coach Mike Sherman, current Carolina offensive coodinator Rob Chudzinski, New York Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.

The club contends, through sources, that Fisher's decision is not a blow.

This, of course, is part wishful thinking, part spin meant to protect the club's reputation. The truth is the Dolphins have sunk from a franchise that once could lure practically any candidate -- Jimmy Johnson, Nick Saban, Bill Parcells -- it chased away from other suitors.

In this case, the Dolphins find themselves placing second in a two-team competition to a St. Louis franchise that could be on the move from its current city in the span to three seasons, a club that has been one of the NFL's losingest franchises for nearly a decade.

Officially waiting for the vodka to start kicking in. Shouldn't take long. I never drink anymore.

Your Worst Nightmare Is Coming:
Henne gets the franchise tag.
It will hurt so bad you will need to off yourself.
He will not lead us to the postseason.
You will need a suicide assister.
That's where I come in.
I promise I will not fondle your body after you are gone.
Candy in your case I may make an exception but no promises.

Get Chip Kelly in here...

The last thing you see before you go night-night forever will be my smiling face and my number 7 jersey.

Welcome Back my old griend.

This time it'll be diferent.

This time you'll be able to "Handle It".

Tomorrow.....the FINS can truely start to build for the future......

You are already living your last 30 days.
When Henne gets franchised he will be making 10 times what Matt Moore is and you will have no choice but to seek the services of a suicide assister and that is me.

PriceMaste is one creepy dude.....

Rick, vodka for two? Me and you? Why not?

t me put it to you like this Dusty.....
If Craig M is for IT......it can't be good for the team....
Craig M.....wanted to......
Keep Sporano.....
Start Henne.....
Stop Parcells's from leaving.....
Rn ground and pound......
Tell Ross "shame shame".....for going after harbaugh......
So......when Craig M thought Fisher was a good Idea......
My sensor automatically told me to to be against it.....
ALL things I strongly disagreed with

Kris, that's priceless. LOL! And so true...

What's up....

Henne will not take us to the playoffs. No QB can take us to the playoffs. All Henne will do is make $10 mil/yr and let's face it no one here other than me can survive that.

Are you guys seriously in here ganging up on a poster (who isn't present to defend himself )over his opinions that you memorized,,,,,because he was wrong? I'm sorry, I must have taken a wrong turn on my way to the football forum, I somehow ended up in a highschool girls locker room.

Kris man. Hey. HEY!

Kris, dude..........WE DIDN"T get FISHER MAN!

Fvcking Ross blew it man. Hey! Hey MAN! Ross blew it!

A part of the Dolphins problems is who the F is in charge? Who's influencing the absurd decisions? Ross? Ireland? How about Peterson? Do Nolan or Daboll give input? Huizenga? How about Ross's many co-owners? Way too many (incompetent) cooks in the kitchen. They needed Fisher to bring it all together. I dont think anyone else will be able to take charge and put everyone on the same page like Fisher would've.

Why is Henne's name being mentioned so much today? He's a FA and he's a bust. Gee, let's stop beating on a dead horse shall we?? This just brings back a lot of bad memories.

Actually Mr. Green Jeans was a child molester. True story. See ya ladies. :)

Who knows if he is here or not..... And been if he isn't....he can read them later.... I put my name on EVERY ONE of them.....

And if he doesn't read them....it not like. Haven't told him a 100 times....

We don't need the moral police.....

DeSean Jackson is a free agent. Man that would be nice...

Fishy chose Saint Looey. Nowhere. Anyhwere, but Miami. Me believes we never had a chance. Was just to work the Rambones.

Rick, vodka for two? Me and you? Why not?

Tonight, I drink alone.

Can we handle a desean and a Marshall.....that is the question.....

The idea of Henne getting franchised has upset you so much that you're already imitating me.
But I will really will assist your suicide.
To save your family the shame I will dispose of your corpse down the hotel laundry chute.
No cop will solve the mystery.
Your death cert cannot be labeled suicide.
Your family will get your life insurance proceeds.
you will not have to live with the pain of knowing that Henne is getting paid $10mil to do the same things he did when he was only getting $600k.

Kris! Take it easy on Graig man. He's my buddy.

Hey! Hey man, you guys are awright man. Dude! Hey! Why can't we just get along man?

Graig loves you MAN! Just get along.

What's up man? Sounds like you've got a lot to say...

Amsmith I posted earlier that Ireland is a fungus and needs to go with Ross, but my choices of Chud Chip Kelly ,Philbin is a whole lot better than dinasours like Fisher , to me you will get the 1st pick next year with Fisher , time has passed these has beens long ago. we need up and coming minds not some one whos still using football 101 that was run 30 yrs ago.

Odin....that is the best thing to happen to this franchise in 15 years.....

Now we can truly begin the re-build.....from the bottom up....broken pride and all....

Craic M. Tell us how 13-3 NE did nothing to improve this year...................................................

#1 Dolphin,
Everyone in here with the exception of me has turned thier back on Chad Henne.
Your problem is that the people that make personnel decisions for the Phins are not posting here.
So unless the decision maker calls for your input it is most likely that Henne will get the franchise tag.
And that is why you will need me to help you off yourself.

Kris, I would think so. Sometimes you have to gamble to be great. Jackson is all about speed and stretching defenses. Marshall is more of a possession receiver. Jackson, Marshall and Bush becomes extremely difficult to defend. Now if we can draft a speedy tight end, yikes...Maybe Clay?

I knew you were Craig M......

Tis is nothing.... Wait till tomorrow..cc when I'm rested....

Were here.....

DeSean Jackson is a free agent. Man that would be nice...

I'd put him at the top of my Free Agents to go after.

That's not what I said. I said I was tired of people saying all the Jets and Pats were doing was getting better. That the moves of Haynesworth, Ocho, Burress and Holmes were going to make all the difference in the world. How did the Jets do this year?

Give Henne the franchise tag? LOL!! PriceMaster, not even these guys will do that...Put down the hashpipe bro...

I just showed up now Kris. I get that your celebrating that Fisher's not coming but what's this other crap your talking about?

Jeff Fisher just turned down more money to coach elsewhere.
Please list all of the free agents busting down the door to play here.
Take all of the space that you need.

Good luck in LA coach.
No great loss.

Ok, all bullshyt aside.

I'm glad Fisher went to St. Louis. Big Deal-Stroke me.

However, I have to admit, when I heard how close we came to having someone/ANYONE making personel decisions, I kind of came unglued.

I think Ireland is an excellent scout and that's what he basically would have been relegated too.

When it comes to being a GM, he just doesn't seem to have the guts to go after it. You take a big risk for high reward.

Ireland invariably goes after the "safer" prototypical pick or signing. In short, he settles for mediocre across the board. And that's exactly what you see in this franchise from top to bottom.

That sounds good....and I am about taking calculated risk as well....but desean quit on his team @ times....and that has to be a serious red flag....

Maybe they win a extra game or two of they get better effort from him....and make the playoffs....

Graig M, boxers or briefs? Photo exchange perhaps?

Pricemaster, I am going to operate under the assumption for a moment that you aren't just posting about Henne like that to antagonize people.

1). What makes you think Henne is worthy of a franchise tag?

2). What makes you think Ireland would do that?

I get that's it's a day of celebration for you bud but it's actually a pretty sad state of affairs. I guess there's something about that that makes you happy but I'm not quite getting it.

In a nutshell Craig M....

I said if your for it....I has to be bad for the FINS....

Your track record is pretty bad.....

It is your scariest nightmare.
Who is the biggest Michigan Booster? A:Stephen Ross.
What is the name of the business school at the Univ of Michigan? A: Ross School of Business
Who holds all of the Mich and Big-10 passing records? A: Henne
Who did Ross say would be the greatest Phins QB of all time? A: Henne

Kris, agreed...But in all honesty, Jackson is not the first guy pissed off about a contract situation. He admitted it wasn't the right way to handle things and regrets it. I think some of these young guys are often brainwashed by their agents...

Now we can truly begin the re-build.....from the bottom up....broken pride and all....

Pride aside! Top Down Kris!

Full Blast and TOP down!

Ross is so stupid in not firing Ireland he had cost Harbaugh last year Fisher now and probably the reason Cowher and Grudden are not interested is because the clown back stabber of Ireland still employ by the stupid owner we have
Ross if you want a great coach Cowher or Grudden you need to fired Ireland and contact this 2 guys asap and offer them the job and the opportunity to bring their men for the GM position.
Also you need to contact Moss from GB and Chudzinsky from Carolina and also interview Mike Nolan any way MR Ross you have no clue on how to run an NFL Team

And what's your track record Kris? What are you in favour of? What do you hope they do now? One of these assitants going to make all the difference in the world?

Anyways, don't have time for your pettiness, man.

Enjoy your Friday night and your weekend.

I'm celebrating ROSS standing up to another coach/wanna be GM..... Who was gonna cost us millions.....and leave this franchise in exactly the same position he found it......

that...Put down the hashpipe bro...

Wow! You guys got Hash MAN?

I didn't think they even made that stuff anymore!

Anything short of Winston Moss or Philbin becoming our next hc. I can Matt Flynn turning us down too in lieu of offering him more money.

I wouldnt be surprised if a couple of the "secondary candidates" reconsidering becoming the next Dolphins hc.

What did Solai do to deserve the franchise tag?
Remember during the season last year when Mando said Solai wanted $4mil and the Phins wouldn't do that?
So how did he end up with the tag? A: because no other NT would sign here.
Fisher took less money so he wouldn't have to be here.
There are no FA's coming here.
RG3 will be gone at 8.
We have no one to trade.

PriceMaster, so Henne holds passing records at Michigan...So what? I don't give 2 sh**s about Michigan. Ryan Leaf probably holds passing records at Washington. I want someone who can play in the NFL and for the Dolphins. Clearly, Henne is not that guy. We've already been down that road.
