Jeff Fisher picks Rams over Dolphins

Jeff Fisher has decided to join the St. Louis Rams as their head coach, The Miami Herald has confirmed through various club and NFL sources.

Fisher seemed headed to the Dolphins throughout the day Wednesday but intense negotiations with the Dolphins, particularly club owner Stephen Ross on the power structure of the organization could not be resolved so Fisher opted to go to St. Louis.

According to an NFL source close to Fisher, Ross was not willing to give Fisher power over the entire football operations, including veto power of decisions by general manager Jeff Ireland.

[Update 1: A club source tells me Fisher never requested full authority over the Dolphins. Source says club's understanding was that Fisher and Ireland would work together, agreeing mutually on personnel.]

Obviously, given the contradictory stories coming from the Dolphins and the source who is in the Fisher camp, the two sides were apparently not speaking the same language here. Either that or someone is fibbing.

That leaves the Dolphins, who hoped to lure Fisher to become their coach, scrambling to recover from yet another disappointment following a season filled with disappointments.

Fisher, through representatives, informed the Rams he had picked them to succeed the fired Steve Spagnulo. Fisher is expected to sign a contract by the weekend. Contract details remain sketchy.

Fisher's also informed the Dolphins he would be going to St. Louis and thanked the Dolphins for considering him. Fisher spoke with Ireland directly. The Dolphins interviewed with Fisher last week and were hoping to make him the 10th coach in the franchise's history.

So where does this leave the Dolphins?

The team must quickly rebound and continue a search for a new coach. The club has already interviewed Green Bay offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, Cincinnati defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and Chicago special teams coordinator Dave Toub.

The Dolphins are expected to expand their coach search. Among the candidates are former Texas Tech coach Mike Sherman, current Carolina offensive coodinator Rob Chudzinski, New York Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.

The club contends, through sources, that Fisher's decision is not a blow.

This, of course, is part wishful thinking, part spin meant to protect the club's reputation. The truth is the Dolphins have sunk from a franchise that once could lure practically any candidate -- Jimmy Johnson, Nick Saban, Bill Parcells -- it chased away from other suitors.

In this case, the Dolphins find themselves placing second in a two-team competition to a St. Louis franchise that could be on the move from its current city in the span to three seasons, a club that has been one of the NFL's losingest franchises for nearly a decade.

I like the idea but Long cant pass a physical.

FAKE YESTERDAY'S GONE. NOW FAKE ME IN BLUE PERVERT! LOL

Marino quit the Dolphins FO after working 1 week.

IMA,
At least someone in here beside me is trying to come up with an idea.
Thank you.
Personally I would go with trading our 1st this year for a 1st next year and a 2nd this year.
To me the best QB coming down the pike is not Barkley it is Logan Thomas of VT. Think Cam Newton in 6'6". Did you see him in Sugar Bowl? He was a soph this year so he could come out next and if we had 2 #1's to trade we could get him.

I would like to see Brian Billick it Chud. Also who is this mystery candidate being interviewed tomorrow? I believe interviews will continue. I won't be surprised if Chip Kellys name pops up again.

The Miami Micks Suk Acorns.

Jerry Sandusky would fit right in here.

Ireland: Jerry can you tell me why you want to work for the Miami Dolphins?

Sandusky: Cut the crap Jeffy, whose a guy gotta blow around here?

Ireland: Pardon me?

Sandusky: Save it Fresh Face, I know you've been giving more than reach arounds to keep your job. I've seen your BODY..............of work, Ha Ha Ha ha!

Just kidding Jeffy, nothing personal, seriously who?

NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD LIVE TO SEE THE DAY DOLPHINS WOULD GO 3 STRAIGHT SEASONS WITHOUT EVER BEING AT LEAST 8-8.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DB,
You can thank the strong armed Matt Moore for that.

I'm not convinced that Jeff Fisher was the ultimate answer. I am convinced that Jeff Ireland is NOT the answer, now or ever.

So, fellow Dolfans, prepare yourself for another 2-3 years of abject mediocrity. Acorn hunting instead of looking for playmakers. Trading down in the draft instead of making bold moves that will pay off in the future.

Ross and Ireland will now go about hiring a yes man who will eventually get the blame and will be run out on his butt like Sparano. I think three more years of no playoffs and 7-9 seasons and 35,000 empty seats each week will finally convince Ross to sell the franchise or nut up and do what needs to be done which is to:

Fire Ireland and bring in a football person who understands how to build a winning team in this century, not the last.....

PM,

MATT MOORE WASNT HERE IN 2009 AND 2010. SO WHO ARE THE BRAINIACS WE THANK FOR NOW REACHING THE 8-8 WIN LOSS MARK IN THOSE YEARS?

Brian Schottenheimer interviewing tomorrow.

Is this the chatroom?

Matt Moore is our QB he throws the ball far with his eyes closed I saw his picture

ROSS NEEDS TO SELL THE TEAM TO OIL RICH ARABS. AT LEAST NEXT TIME WE'LL BE WELL OILED BEFORE GETTING PHUCKED!

I hope we get a good coach and a good player in the draft

dusty buttons is my friend he is not here now deviled avocado is my friend he is not here now too

Tommy,

My compliments. If I could put my thoughts into words as eloquently as you, THAT is exactly what I would have said. Nice post, probably one of the best all day.

I think I did post this. It was just broken up into 30 different entries mixed in with a lot of angry jibberish!

Anyway, EXCELLENT post!

GETTING FIRED SPARANO BECOMES THE BIGGEST WINNER OF THIS ENTIRE MESS!

Soprano is my friend too but he moved so now he has to be on the Jets

Hey guys! I can fit three acorns and a fist in my anus. Honest!

Sparano has to be laughing.....and eating good pizza.

WHOMEVER OUR NEW HC IS, HE DOESNT HAVE A CLUE OF WHAT'S IN STORE FOR HIM UNTIL HE GETS HERE.

BOWLES SHOULD BE THE NEXT HC JUST BASED ON HE ALREADY KNOWS WHAT TO EXPECT HERE. PLUS HE'S PROBABLY THE ONLY HC THE PLAYERS ALREADY HERE WOULD REALLY HONESTLY TRY AND PLAY FOR.

TGH What!!! Brian Schottenheimer interviewing tomorrow for the Fins. Is this the mystery candidate. Someone get me some inside scoop. Call Brian Billick or Chud. They will interview other people.

I like the Jets too because they have Mark Sanchez and we play them a lot but I do not like a dirty Sanchez because it smells like poo poo

I used to cut on Dusty Bottoms for all of his negativity. No longer. He was right all along.

I have seen the error of my ways and am now apologizing to Dusty.

To pay homage and make amends, I will change my sign in name here permanently. I know you all could give a squat, but I have always used only ONE sign in name and I have been posting here literally from Day 1 with Armando.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that my sign in name had sentimental value to me. I'm now sacrificing that in a one man protest of what has become an absolute farce of a franchise here in Miami.

These Miami Mick Acorns are MY Miami Dolphins any longer. Until pride, honor and glory is restored, I will no longer be posting here as odinseye.

Again, I apologize Dusty Bottoms!

ROSS' BEST BET IS TO PROMOTE A HC ALREADY WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION.

IF NOT, I BELIEVE THE FIRST SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD WE HIT NEXT SEASON, THE PLAYERS WILL TANK.

THINK ABOUT IT.

These Miami Mick Acorns are NOT MY Miami Dolphins any longer.

Damn Typos!!!!

I want Todd Bowles to be the next headcoach he is black but I don't care because we are all pink inside that is what my counselor told me at basketball camp last summer

I BELIEVE NOT ONLY HAVE THE DOLFANS LOST FAITH IN ROSS/IRELAND. AFTER MONITORING THE FISHER MESS, SO HAVE THE PLAYERS.

GET READY FOR AN EVEN MORE DISASTROUS 2012-13 PEOPLE.

Aloco writes bad words sometimes h omo is a bad word too it means when a camp counselor put his mouth on my weiner my father told me

Chad Henne is bigger and stronger than Matt Moore but he is mean Matt Moore throws the ball far with his eyes closed I saw his picture

At this point, I say we give Nolan his second chance and bring in Greg Williams as DC just to burn Fishers a ss.

Williams can Coach a hybrid 3-4/4-3 with no problems. He'll probably have a some good wrinkles to add.

Bellicheat, much like Nolan, was a Defensive Coach that bombed in his first opportunity. Get the guy a legitimate QB to compete with Moore and turn him loose!

Nolan could keep Daboll for continuity and is more qualified than all the other prospective "Wanna Be" Coaches available right now.

He probably knows how to deal with Ireland Already(ala Buddy Ryan/Kevin Gilbride).

At this point and taking everything else into consideration, I say Mike Nolan is our best option!

I went to basketball camp last summer and one time I woke up and my weiner was in my counselors mouth and she said it was a game but she couldn't breathe because I have a moose crock

but I don't care because we are all pink inside that is what my counselor told me at basketball camp last summer

Moore,

Your Basketball camp wasn't located on the campus of Penn State University by any chance?

I never went to camp at Penn State I went to camp in Syracuse it was fun but I had one counselor that kept waking me up because she was playing silly games at night

I liked going to summer camp but one counselor kept waking me up to play silly games at night we played hide the salami and she made my pee pee disappear and I could not find it it was warm and creamy

GET READY FOR AN EVEN MORE DISASTROUS 2012-13 PEOPLE.

I have to agree. I'm about 99% convinced things are going to get a lot worse before they get any better.

It's not so much that we didn't Fisher. It's that our Brain Trust, our Owner really showed his hand. Siding with Ireland over anyone? Even Fisher? That's just depressing any way you look at it.

Everyone went berserk today because we lost out on Fisher. That's not the point. The point is Ross has way to much **Unwarranted** confidence and allegiance to Ireland. As soon as I read the particulars, I knew it was the same deal with Harbaugh last year.

Who could blame Football guys, FOOTBALL PLAYERS turned Coaches, who could blame them for not wanting to take orders from a Ball Boy turned Kicker, handed a Coat tail riding job of GM?

PS: Ireland was one of those Kickers that refused to make a tackle on returns/blocked kicks. In those instances, he would just squeal and run for the sideline!

I went to basketball camp last summer and one time I woke up and my weiner was in my counselors mouth and she said it was a game but she couldn't breathe because I have a moose crock

Sorry to inform you, Jerry is a cross dresser as well. You should have checked He-She's Adams Apple!

Then again, don't ask, don't tell, it's all good if you're into that sort of thing.

Odin,
You are almost there just 1 or 2 more small steps:
Fisher gets more money than anyone else, he can hire any coaches he wants no limit, Ireland and him both have 50% veto power, there can only be one catch:
Henne is getting franchised.
Now Fisher was personally on the receiving end of a 350 yard beating that Henne put on Tn 2 years ago, when Tn averaged giving up 250 yds/game passing. Fisher has no problem with Henne. Fisher's problem is how can one player be above the coaches decision?
That would make Henne the most powerful person in the organization after Ross, no?

Kris,

I try to stay out of the in-fighting with the regulars here. I seriously tried to ignore your silly conspiracy claim of Ross not really wanting Fisher in the first place.

Sorry Bro, but I just have to call you on that one. Ross was offering mega bucks. Sent out the Bat Copter and was even prepared to cede a certain amount of power/veto power.

He just refused to give the Power Trippin Fisher total control over him AND Ireland.

I don't want to stir the pot, but after your later comments about Craig M and the way he seemed offended, he should have took you to task for the ludicris claim that Ross never really wanted Fisher in the first place.

I tried and tried Kris, but I just HAD to call you on that one. For that you get a big:

C'Mon MAN!!!!

Odin,
Preposterous you say?
Do you believe it is just a coincidence that every skill player and every coach connected to the BACKDOOR wildcat has been fired from the organization?
I don't believe that.
I believe that when Ross is driving Henne around on his golf cart Henne is telling Ross who can stay and who has to go.
Preposterous you say? Well show me an action that contradicts that. Not an opinion presented by Mando but an action.
There are none.

Price,

I think you're off base on Henne.

I was one of the biggest Henne supporters here. I still think he can make it in the NFL.

The thing is, for whatever reasons(Henning, Marshalls Drops, lack of run game, SpOrano's ineptness, **Slow Developer**)Henne wasn't getting it done and neither were the rest of the Dolphins. In my book, that equals a Time for a Change.

I still think Henne can succeed in the NFL. But it'll take an almost PERFECT situation. One similar to what Manning and a few others have. He needs to be surrounded by a Great Fvcking TEAM. Something that Miami is stil 5 to ten years away from having.

Solid O-line and run game. Great receivers and a GREAT Defense. Henne would've gotten Billicks Ravens two, maybe three Super Bowl Titles!

But then again, so would a lot of others.

I don't know if you're being serious or just messing with people here. In my opinion, Henne is DONE here in Miami and it's probably the best thing that ever could have happened to his NFL career.

JMHO!

Chip Kelly!!!!!!

Preposterous you say? Well show me an action that contradicts that. Not an opinion presented by Mando but an action.
There are none.

Posted by: PriceMaster | January 14, 2012 at 01:50 AM

I dunno, what about when SpOrano benched Henne near the end of last season?

Do you think Henne told Ross to have SpOrano bench him?

I won't give you another action, but I'll give you a non-action. What about Ireland not extending Henne's contract during the off season, during the season, or after the injury?

If Henne is so important to Ross, why did he let him become a free agent?

Ross is a pretty shrewed business man and letting your Franchise Players contract expire ain't good business?

Odin,
Sparano was fired.
Ireland let everyone he interviewed, including Fisher, know that Henne is the starter, period.
Henne will either be signed to a long term contract or franchised prior to the end of this postseason.
That will be extraordinarily painful for many of the posters here.
That is why I have volunteered to be a suicide assister.

Like I said every skill player and coach connected to the BACKDOOR wildcat has been fired including Pennington the whole NoodleArmed reason for the BACKDOOR wildcat in the first place.

Chip Kelly!!!!!

We may have a good foundation cavemanna, the problem is, Ireland didn't draft any of those players. I think he does a good job in rds 4-7, even the 3rd, but has no ball$ in the first 2. How do u feel about pickin daniel thomas over mallet in 2nd rd? I hate it and mallet hasn't even played. This is the year to finally trade up, what is there to lose? Get luck or rg3, make the fans happy. At some point Ireland will be relieved of his gm duties in the next few years, it'll be interesting to see if anyone picks him up.

Well, I just love conspiracy theories.

Up until this Fisher incident, I would be totally against Henne returning.

But knowing what I now know, WHY NOT?

I mean with Ross and Ireland in charge, who knows what kind of retarded stuff they're going to dream up next.

Benching Moore and resigning Henne at this point seems like just the kind of thing these two dolts would do.

If not, I think they trade their first round pick for Billy Kilmer and hire George Allen as Head Coach!

AwwwwwwwwwwwwwRiiiiiiiiiiiiiight ACORNS!!!!

Sparano didn't bench Henne near the end of last season.
Soprano played Thigpen in the 2nd half of the last game.
You remember Thigpen don't you? We got shut out in 1 game in 2010, against Chicago, Thigpen played that whole game. Thigpen also got paid more than Henne did. Thigpen got $1mil for the season Henne got $600k.
Well Thigpen didn't get franchised.
Neither did Matt Moore.
Henne is about to be.
And unless Ross/Ireland are going to consult with you there is nothing you can do to stop it.
There is something you can do to stop the pain and I will assist you.
It is called assisted suicide.
It was perfected in the state of Michigan believe it or not by Dr Jack Kevorkian.
I will assist you Odin and all of the other Fin Fan who choose to off themselves because the franchising of Henne will be very painful for you.
I will dispose of your corpse down the hotel laundry chute.
I will not fondle your corpse.
The police will never label it a suicie because the evidence will contradict that.
Your survivors will get the life insurance payout and they will be happier without you.

Bring Chud to interview and recognize you made a mistake by choosing Daboll over him last year, it was a mistake, it happens nobody is perfect just don't make it twice by not even interviewing the guy, he is light years ahead of Daboll in ANY aspect.

He would be the ideal coach for RG3, bring Shula with him, show them the money they and in turn those two names alone (Chud and Shula, Canes and Shula) will sell you a lot of tix guaranteed, read the hundreds of posts everywhere of people wishing you interview these guys.

Yes, MUST draft RG3, this team has enough talent today to make a run not next year but in 2013 at a SB, I truly believe so, if you wait another year a lot of the key players would be one year older, the more you wait the worse, next year needs to be used as a great foundation, people will understand the record, look at Carolina their 6-10 looks A LOT different than ours, why? They found their guy, they took a gamble, an educated guess, how many people really thought Newton was going to be that good?! There is simply no other QB out there in the draft, Tannehill and Foles are too raw and come with huge question marks, RG3 is just phenomenal and has the leadership traits you look in a leader and his game will adjust beautifully with our present personnel dynamics, just think:

QB: RG3 (Moore starts the season, then RG3 takes over)
RB: Bush and a healthy Thomas
FB: Clay
WR: Brandon Marshall (possession), DeSean Jackson (deep threat), Bess (slot)
TE: Dwayne Allen (Clemson beast), Greg Olsen, Clay
OL: Long, Pouncey, Incognito, Jerry, Kelechi Osemele (Iowa State monster) or Mike Ryan (UConn dark horse).

Yes I am including a pair of free agents there b/c to get RG3 you will have to mortgage the house, Mr. Ross, you know sometimes you got to take a risk and believe, and a lot us fans, the ones tired of the perennial mediocrity, BELIEVE in RG3.
I would add one name to the FA list: Michael Griffin, FS, Titans, good hitter, his addition will do wonders for Smith and Davis.

We can probably get a 4th rounder for Moore and then we can sign the backup that the team that acquires Moore releases.
Kind of like Satele to Oakland in reverse.

Odin,
Neither RG3 nor DeSean are coming here.
So you have 2 choices:
1. You can blame everything wrong on Henne in 2012 (he is a very good scapegoat and has shouldered all of the offensive, defensive and special teams blame for 3 years).
2. You can off yourself and I will assist you. In fact let me sharpen the pencil here: $1000 suicide assist fee and I'll pay the travel myself.

Ok how come my team is a laughing stock..the Miami freakin Dolphins!! I mean come on now.. I'm really beginning to think Ross is the worst thing to ever happen to us. Even worse than Tuna and Ireland..I hate all three by the way.

Price, you forget...anything can happen. Money and draft picks talk, if Ross wants RG3 we can move up for sure. So your never happen theory is a bust. In the same breath now..do I think that Ireland has the sack to d that...we all better hope so or our team is going to be reeling for many years...we will be 0-16 in 2012 if we do not get a QB in the first round. Start being positive about it and maybe we can make something happen here that actually goes in the "right" direction instead of all this negative stuff thats been hanging over our beloved team

Armando! Please, please, please!!!!!!!!!!!!! I for one am glad that Fisher is on his way to the Rams. Alex Marvez is totally right when he says Fisher is Tony Sparano with mustache. No, I take that back. He's worse. How do you go 17 seasons being a great football coach and win 6 seasons only? And tell me what great personnel moves has he made in seventeen years? It's obvious he couldn't develop a young quarterback like Vince Young. That's probably what the Titans' owner realized. Why give him all the power again? So we can go 17 years with six winning seasons? Have you, Armandito, even looked at his stats for those seventeen years? I AM GLAD HE IS NOT THE PHINS NEW COACH. If Ross is truly looking for the next Shula, then he has done the right thing in letting Fisher go to the lowly Rams. Bring Chudzinski in here. He'll give you Shula. And he'll know how to develop a young quarterback. DO-SHAN-WU!!!

Guys...cool it...FISHER is not a SUPERBOWL winning coach. He wont make it with us or the RAMS...we are fortunate.

I think Bowles can do the job.Give hime next season. How can it hurt ?....But you MUST absolutely MUST obtain RG3 or Matt Flynn at least to compete with Matt Moore.

We also need another DE and a right tackle....and thats just the beggining....

quit crying dean! fisher's agent happens to be the father of the owner of the rams. he was going to go to the rams anyway. And ireland is doing ok. he needs some more time.

Ginrai... You say Ireland is alright?? I'd have to say no he isn't. He sucks actually, he's scared to make bold moves and we are really desperate for RG3 now...if Ireland can get RG3 then I'll give him die credit...but geeze man how many failed years do you need to see before you see that?

Fisher can go F himself..I'm on the side of the fence that thinks the fisher hide would have been a bad move for us...mostly a lateral move from fist pump Sparano
