If you want to know why the Dolphins want to hire Jeff Fisher to be their head coach, read my Sunday column in The Herald.
If you want to know why the team is lukewarm at best on the idea of even talking to Marty Schottenheimer although his career winning percentage blows Fisher away, read my Sunday column in The Herald.
And if you want to know why Brian Billick has zero chance to become the Dolphins coach even if Jeff Fisher doesn't accept the job, read my Sunday column in The Herald.
That is all for now. Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone.

My point is simple.....and can't be refuted...no matter how much you want to nit-pick...
Billick was part of a staff that won a Super Bowl....
since were playing word games this morning....
Posted by: kris | January 08, 2012 at 10:25 AM
kris who said fisher built a team? what are u talking about, ur comparison of billick to belicheat was way off. nobody else has commented on anything
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Sparano will never get a hc job again. Get it right!
Posted by: Dolphin 77 | January 08, 2012 at 10:26 AM
thats great, nobody disputed that. billick isnt wanted by any teams in the nfl
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Thats how you dodge a question with style Dusty.....
Posted by: kris | January 08, 2012 at 10:27 AM
That remains to be seen dusty....the season isn't even over for everybody.....
Billick could be waiting for one of these wildcard teams to have a EPIC FAIL...and then he can walk into a play-off team.....
As much as I disagree with the notion....Tom Coughlin isn't safe in NY....and what if the ATL coach gets blown out...and fails to win a playoff game for his 3rd consecutive year....things could open up....
Posted by: kris | January 08, 2012 at 10:31 AM
whats your question? u made all the comments, i just commented on them. comparing the 2 was hilarious and insane
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 10:31 AM
Dusty...
Yes...according to you...Billick is an an 'idiot" (as if you have 1st hand knowledge)...
and everybody that has an opinion differing from yours..is "hilarious and insane"
The sad part is....
you don't even know your the real joke.....
Posted by: kris | January 08, 2012 at 10:35 AM
DC,
Morning bud.
I agree more with your original comments to me than what I read yesterday....I call that progress....LOL.
No, I don't feel Moore is the answer or our offence is NEARLY good enough to beat the Pats. However....and this is a BIG HOWEVER....
The Giants in the Super Bowl, the Bills this year and the Jets in last year's playoffs showed us the blueprint on how to beat Brady. Pass rush, pass rush and more pass rush. Confuse him and don't make it too obvious where the pass rush is coming from. The Bills caused him to throw 4 picks earlier this year. Jets last year made him look REALLY ordinary.
Also, Brady and Bellichick aren't going to be doing this FOREVER. I think you're in the Mallett camp, so maybe we get a look at this guy in another 3-4 years. Can't wait!! With a strong pass rush he'd won't know what him.
All of this is why, in the event we can't get RGIII (and I'm not a fan of giving up too much for him), we draft pass rush at 8. More pass rush is needed from this team with JT retiring, Misi showing that he doesn't have that and the chance that Wake holds out. Now what defence we're playing will depend on who draft. If it continues to be a 3-4, then OLB. If Fisher brings the 4-3 to town then it's the best DE available. Merling is done is Miami and Langford is marginal. We need more in that dept.
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 10:35 AM
yes kris and they wouldnt think for a second to call billick just like no team has done since he left baltimore
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 10:36 AM
dusty,
Billick is a lot of things but he's not an idiot. One of the smartest football minds you'd ever come across. Problem is he knows it and let's everyone know it too. If he had better people skills he'd be a Hell of a hire. I see him like Martz in way....great mind but always seems to rub people the wrong way.
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 10:39 AM
agree craig
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 10:39 AM
agree on some of that craig, i posted that earlier that no team has any interest in him because of his arrogance, and that is why i call him an idiot. be humble and get hired. but as he is no team wants anything to do with him. martz i disagree with, hes been awful everywhere after he left rams
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 10:42 AM
I'll make two predictions and then I've got to run for awhile:
Some team, (maybe it's Baltimore, maybe it's not until the Super Bowl) will figure out how to stop Brady and the Patriots. It's been done before many times (I think Pitt did it this year). Teams will need to look closely at the blueprint and execute. It's there if teams can't get it done.
I said at the beginning of the year it'll be Saints and Ravens in the Super Bowl. I'll stick to that, even though Baltimore always disappoints and the Packers will be tough for anyone to beat.
Lastly.....Jeff Fisher will be the next Head Coach for the Miami Dolphins either tomorrow or Tuesday. Steven Ross won't be outbid for this guy and Fisher will realize the challenge in St. Louis, while appealing, is HUGE. I realize some guys will love this and some guys will hate it. I'd only ask that everyone give him a CHANCE....
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 10:44 AM
Btw,
For all the trolls on here, feel free to ridicule my predictions and carry them on for weeks and get into name-calling....it's what you guy do.
I don't sit on the fence with stuff and I don't hide behind other people's names. YOu should try it some time....it's pretty freeing.
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 10:46 AM
hope your right craig!
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Craig M...
If Fisher is Hired...
He gets my support....Simple as that....
But I HOPE he isn't hired....and Fisher turning us down could be the equivalent of Parcells turning down ATL for us.....
Worked out better for the team that lost the red herring in the end....
Posted by: kris | January 08, 2012 at 10:48 AM
dusty,
It's telling that Billick has NEVER had his name mentioned once as a potential co-ordinator anywhere, in all the time he's been without a head coaching gig. Pretty obvious the guy feels it's below and he's waiting for that ONE gig. Best way for a guy to get back to a head coaching gig is to get back as a co-ordinator somewhere. Obvious he puts himself above all that and sees himself on the same level as Cowher.
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 10:49 AM
yup craig, like i said hes a moron
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Craig M....
He won as many SBs as Cowher....
Posted by: kris | January 08, 2012 at 10:51 AM
kris,
You could well be right. I just want the 'best' head coach for this team, and outside of Fisher I don't see it. I would have loved for the team to interview guys like Moss and Jay Gruden and Zimmer but they've chosen to go this route.
I truly believe the Dolphins want Fisher more than the Rams do and that will be what turns it for them. But i've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again, no doubt.....
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 10:51 AM
kris,
Agreed. But do you rank him as good a coach? Do other people?
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 10:53 AM
We all better hope Fisher gets hired! Not because of who or what he is! But because this franchise and Ross will look like a joke once again! Harbaugh all over again!
Posted by: Marks Brothers | January 08, 2012 at 10:53 AM
craig its not a secret we offered him more money, its the qb already being in place and he gets to pick his own gm that is having him lean towards the rams. ireland kills this team again
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 10:53 AM
so has barry switzer, doesnt make him in the same demand as cowher
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 10:55 AM
If you think that if any other candidate won't want to deal because of being sloppy seconds, then why are you writing this? To sabotage the coach search?
I'm sure you can find something else to write about for now til the process is over!!
You writers gossip like a bunch of women in the restroom!
Posted by: Beavis | January 08, 2012 at 10:56 AM
dusty,
I was going to make the 'exact' same point....interesting.
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 10:56 AM
1974 was a LONG Time ago.........
Posted by: zonk-39 | January 08, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Craig M.....I agree...we need "the best" HC for this team....
My prediction is this....Fisher was NEVER the guy Ross wanted.....
and he just interviewed him out of necessity rather than desire...If Ross didn't interview him....then he would be accused of not going after the "best" coach available....
There is something fishy out how this FO would leak that they won't be "outbid".....I think thats to ensure that the fans know Ross did everything possible....but really has no intention of hiring him....
After Fisher Signs with the Rams....the real HC search begins....
Posted by: kris | January 08, 2012 at 11:01 AM
sadly i think kris is right on this, fisher will go to the rams.
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 08, 2012 at 11:02 AM
Dusty....
basically....you are what the media says you are...
Switzer was painted as a"dolt" by the media....and then they run a few clips of him stumbling over a word here...or tripping there....
and BLAMO...Switzer is a dolt....
I can assure you...he was a very qualified HC in College...and didn't get hired by Jerry Jones because he was a dolt.....
Posted by: kris | January 08, 2012 at 11:04 AM
dusty, i guess i'm looking for a younger guy;full of energy who isnt an older experienced retread who usually become set in their ways(gruden, cowher, fisher, parcells, sparano). the dolphin fans deserve some excitement and need some younger,hi energy person who can inspire, motivate and innovate. there are plenty up and coming guys in the college ranks and assistants in the pro ranks who await an opportunity. the regime will take fisher because he is a safe pick.
Posted by: greg z. | January 08, 2012 at 11:05 AM
kris,
You're welcome to your opinion but I'm not quite sure why you would say that. Do you also not think he was serious about Harbaugh last year too and it was just a charade? Seems like an awful long way to go and lot of effort if it wasn't sincere.
The so-called 'experts' are saying that Ross will but the full court press on for Fisher tomorrow and open up the cheque book. We'll know how this all shakes out soon enough.
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 11:05 AM
Switzer is no cowher...but he wasn't Larry, curly, or mo either.....
Posted by: kris | January 08, 2012 at 11:05 AM
Craig M....
I think Harbaugh was the real deal....and more of a Ross type....young...energetic..dynamic...and creative...
That leak of "outbid".....just gets my spidey-sense going....
we'll see....
Posted by: kris | January 08, 2012 at 11:09 AM
Mike Martz won a Super Bowl too, in the same way that Switzer did.....it was someone else's team. Difference is that Martz continues to tak co-ordinator positions because he enjoys coaching, unlike a guy like Billick, who apparently makes it seem like it's beneath him.
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Cheers kris,
Enjoy the games today. Gotta run...
Posted by: Craig M | January 08, 2012 at 11:12 AM
If Cowher and Gruden were in the game, Fisher would be 3rd. It's a very weak year for finding a new HC with experience, so Fisher by default is catapulted to #1.
In America, we love experience. The guy with 17 years of experience is often considered more valuable than the guy with 3 years experience. Even if the guy with less experience may have more upside, most people are cautious, afraid of the unknown, and err on the side of safety.
In a nutshell, Ross is showing no imagination and no appetite for risk/reward in going after Fisher. He is choosing the safe name brand, which will not be the right decision if the older Fisher is anything like the younger Fisher.

Bucs interviewing Marty next week.
Posted by: Jeff Suckland | January 08, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Thanks Kris,
Your post led to actually finding some decent analysis and insight into the Dolphins hiring decision, rather than the usual "analysis" we see in the Herald.
It is amazing when you get off this blog, you actually find people who understand why a "name-brand" proven coach isn't the best option, and why Philbin/Flynn may be the best move ever.
I will say it now. If Ireland gets Philbin, follows that up with Flynn for cheap, and drafts Blackmon, I may have to increase my rating of Ireland from worthless to mostly worthless.

No one with a choice wants to coach the hapless Dolphins.

Bucs interviewing Wade Phillips next week.
Posted by: Jeff Suckland | January 08, 2012 at 11:28 AM
Lets see.
Fisher is here a couple hours and off to LA. Every opinion outside of Miami and every source close to Fisher says he likes the Rams better, and the Rams immediately move to interview Titan execs Fisher worked with after his interview with them.
Philbin - respected and known outside of Miami - is immediately on lists of various teams needing a coach including Miami. I won't point out all the benefits of such a move or explain why teams want him but the Philbin/Flynn dynamic is risk mitigation 101. But I digress, Philbin is potentially a very smart move, the Dolphins interviewed Philbin not for a couple hours, not for a day, but for two days.
Which interview do you think offered more substance, more value, and discussed the plans for turning around the Dolphins.
Its almost laughable to think Fisher is going to pick Miami or Miami wasn't primarily interested in getting Philbin in the first place.
Peterson clearly wanted Fisher; Ireland clearly didn't. Ireland wins.

Let Fisher go hang with toothless hillbillies in Missouri! Yeeeeehaaaa!
Posted by: Marks Brothers | January 08, 2012 at 11:29 AM
Next they'll interview Tony Sparano JR!!!!
Posted by: Stu | January 08, 2012 at 11:33 AM
I read both articles/blogs on the Ross and Billick connection and I'm sorry Armando but not buying the grudge thing. If Ross had such dislike for Billick, why would he meet with him in 2008 while the wound was fresh and provide Billick with fodder for a new book? A book which presumably made Billick money? Doesn't make any sense. And for the record I'm not a Billick guy.

New Coach Wanted....
Must have 2 arms and 2 legs.....and be willing to work for peanuts. Contact the Miami Dolphins.
Posted by: Stu | January 08, 2012 at 11:35 AM
New Coach
I see it kind of the opposite. Fisher interviewed with Miami mainly to do his own due diligence, and maybe drive the offer up from St.Louis. Reports said he was impressed with Miami....but there were some structural issues he wasn't sure if he'd be comfortable with. Sounded like a politically correct thanks but no thanks to me.
Personally I don't think getting Fisher is any big deal. These other guys have been in the NFL long enough to learn the ropes and I'm all giving someone new a shot, there is no shortage of capable talent out there.
Posted by: DevilsAdvocate | January 08, 2012 at 11:37 AM
It's a guessing game. Fisher is back at St. Louis today to check out the facility and meet the staff today. I final look before deciding to sign with them or a ploy to get more $ from Ross? Only Jeff and his agent knows, and we can only guess.
Posted by: DevilsAdvocate | January 08, 2012 at 11:39 AM
Parcells played that same game with Atlanta and got Wayne to cough up more $.
Posted by: DevilsAdvocate | January 08, 2012 at 11:40 AM
If they want someone willing to work with Ross, Ireland, Nolan, and Daboll they better bring Tony Sparano back! LOL

DC,
Aahh its so good to see that we start out on the right foot again this year..lol. welcome back from your vacation.
Im having a hard time with this. Because there is no way you can actually believe what you just posted as a response. All your rantings from yesterday are still here in black and white. and at least 3 times you were called out for being wrong with your information, and all 3 times you twisted it around not admitting you were wrong. But you did'nt hesitate to mention where others were wrong. I even think you called one an as$hole. Its one thing to give an opinion, but its a lot different when you try to state something as fact. And then when called out on it try to say it was your opinion. And my response to you regarding Moore had nothing to do with your pre season analysis. Had to do with your exact words in your post.
Posted by: finfaneurope | January 08, 2012 at 12:04 PM
Lets assume for a minute, its a stretch, that Ireland is genius and has a plan and is able to execute it to get both Philbin and Flynn. For you guys favoring such a scenario, lets think it through.
How do we match up personnel wise to the Packers, ie, can we provide Flynn with the weapons he needs for Miami to offer an aerial assault worthy of mention in comparison to the Packers.
Look forward to your thoughts on our receiving corp vs theirs and how we match up. Of course, I presume we must get Blackmon and I think Marshall would do well in this system. The rest of our guys, I don't know.
Posted by: New Coach Wanted | January 08, 2012 at 12:06 PM
Ross should refund all the money he stole from the ticket buyers last season. What a sham.
Posted by: Howie | January 08, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Flynn 7th round pick. Just what we need. Another hope and prayer on a late rounder that will come in and flop like all the rest.
