Reasons some things are happening as they are

If you want to know why the Dolphins want to hire Jeff Fisher to be their head coach, read my Sunday column in The Herald.

If you want to know why the team is lukewarm at best on the idea of even talking to Marty Schottenheimer although his career winning percentage blows Fisher away, read my Sunday column in The Herald.

And if you want to know why Brian Billick has zero chance to become the Dolphins coach even if Jeff Fisher doesn't accept the job, read my Sunday column in The Herald.

That is all for now. Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone.

Just a tidbit, was looking up on Fisher, didn't know he was Defensive Coordinator for Rams in 1991...

Haven't seen anything mentioned about that anywhere, so like Armando, I thought I would have some BREAKING NEWS and share it here. lol.

Been around here a long time and nobody recognizes all the give aways?

I used to not like Tebow....

But after listening to Collin Cowherd a about a week or two ago....i gotta admit...I Tebow isn't the problem...and He seems to be a GOOD football player...and a FINE person.....

Its the Tebow supports that really turned me off to him....Tebow didn't ask to be turned in to the 2nd coming....It was ESPN and other media outlets that turned him into the football messiah....and the sheep like masses that bought in whole-heartedly.....

Tebow took a quick second to thank HIS GOD after a great come back win....the media turned his semi-private moment in to TEBOWING.....and all the SHEEP ran to you-tube and facebook to post pictures of themselves kneeling....

Its not Tebow's fault that people are so easily swayed to and fro....he's just a below average QB who has been thrust into being America's next great hope......

More than any MAN should have to bare....

New Coach,
Im not sold on Flynn, I mean if he is brought here to compete and is cheap so be it. Even if that were to happen, we still need to draft a QB. Sadly I think a first round QB will be out of the question this year. Its going to cost to much in future picks. I can still remember when the Dolphins 3 out of 4 years not having a first round pick, that has happened now twice. Its a strain trying to build when you cant draft the talent. I still think there are some quality QB's available in this years draft.

Good post kris. I have not been a big Tebow fan either. But, I have to admit he has guts, heart, and a desire to win.

I'll sat this about switzer he was a hell of alot smarter than people think and most coaches, alot of coaches always over think everything and out coach themselves, he knew the type of team he had he let the assistants do their job and let the players play and stayed out of the way, smart man

Europe.....

Thanks....I actually had to take a step back from myself and re-evaluate why I had so much dis-like for Tebow after hearing that....

and I think Cowherd hit the nail on the head...at least to how I was feeling....

Agree DevilsAdvocate @ 11:13 AM. Like to add this HC search isn't all that hard to figure out. It was Peterson who advised Ross to go after Fisher. Ireland would like lesser known types so he can maintain some stroke in the organization. With a strong HC hire either experienced or rook, Ireland would be in danger of losing power or even his job.

That's why we probably will continue to see HC canididates who Ireland view as 'safe'.

Fisher meeting with Sam Bradford today. No plans to meet with Matt Moore at all.

Jay Glazer reporting Miami had realized not getting Fischer. I'd like to see them get Zimmer. Mando has been way off on his coach search reporting and late.

Mando, please stop writing about Fisher. They are not gettin him. Move on please!

Fisher is touring the Rams facility and meeting with Sam Bradford today. It could not be more obvious he is going to take the St. Louis job, and this is definitely NOT a negotiating ploy to extract more money from Ross (who has been willing to pay whatever it takes all along).

I think he would have been great for the Dolphins but it isn't happening. Those of you who still think it is must be in an alternate universe.

I have a feeling Ross is going to learn the hard way, that keeping Ireland was a huge mistake. Its going to be another HC puppet that will continually have to watch his back all over again.

@ty

Agreed, if he was negotiating, he would have held out for all the teams to interview him. He only had two teams interview and told other teams hes not interested. I think he always wanted St Louis from day one.

Dever has to CUT Tebow after this loss.....

Elway has to be praying for a BLOW-OUT LOSS....

you can't have TEBOW sitting on DENVER's bench next year...

The #1 QB will have NO CHANCE to succeed...

My BOLD prediction....

TEBOW CUT in the off-season.....what choice do Fox and Elway have.....

Jumping the gun here.

Matt Ryan has a good oline. He has a great running game. He has top notch receivers. If he fails to win his first playoff game today, will those that said we should have taken Ryan over Long have second thoughts? Or is 0-3 in the playoffs acceptable?

Best news yet no fisher, ultra conservative and no super bowl win in 17 years umm no thanks!! I'd rather see a new face

DA.....

The bottom line is this (and I have never advocated one way or the other)....

Matt Ryan WINS games.....he WINS HOME GAMES.....

Best record in the NFC last year....

He loses to the EVENTUAL SB CHAMPS...luck of the draw.....you can't fault a QB/team for losing to the EVENTUAL SB CHAMPS.....

at least with RYAN....you got an invite to the dance.....

How many times has Long blocked his way to the dance.....

The Giants are a good team...

and Ryan is on the road....

NOBODY should take any more from this than what it is....

too very good teams...that have a chance to get HOT.....either of the teams could still be playing FEB 5th.....

two

Kris

The real question is how would have Ryan faired on OUR team?

Long was drafted #1 with the expectation he would be the #1 LT in the NFL. Expectations were met.

DA....

The problem with that question is this....

That question has less to do with the SKILLS of Matt Ryan....and more to do with the ineptitude of our coaching staff (s)....and I say staffs because this started long before Parcells and crew.....

Not only would Matt Ryan not be the Player he is today if he had been drafted by the FINS....

I don't think Drew Brees would have been the player he has become either.....

Its just that we don't develop players very well....and as we try to deveolp them....we bring them along WAY to slowly....

Henne Handcuffed into fear....
Yoing WRs who can't get on the field..
Wake...

the list goes on....

I think Brian Daboll did very well this year, and took some shots. I'd keep him.

You don't really have to develop a LT.....

Just like you don't have to develop a RB....

However....

QBs and WRs take time.....

Correction....

You don't really need to develop the #1 consensus LT in the draft....

Kris 1:14

Agreed. And I sit here and wonder if now after 4 years we would not be extending Ryan's contract, just like we didn't do with Henne.

DA....

I find myself wondering the same thing from time to time....

would Ryan have enough talent to overcome the staff...and show enough flashes of brilliance to warrant keeping him....

We will never know....

Mike Mularkey is NOTHING without Matty "Ice" Ryan.

Had we drafted Ryan, many here could have been labeling him a bust right now.

My only point to the argument, is merely to say at least the guy they did draft was what they hoped he would be and met expectations.

Henne should've PAID US! I've never seen a worse pro QB. Sparano got fired for wasting 4 years on HennePuke!

I agree DA.....but it doesn't make the pill any easier to swallow....

The Long and short of it is this.....Long will most likely be remembered like

JT
ZT

Guys who were Dolphin greats....but never even came close to sniffing a ring....

If we had drafted Ryan instead of Long, WE would be in the playoffs every year instead of the Falcons.

I keep thinking we won't finally get that true franchise QB until Long is in year 15.

Had
we drafted Ryan, many here
could have been
labeling
him a bust right now.
My only point to the argument,
is merely to say
at least
the guy they did draft
was what they hoped he would be
and met expectations.

That was beautiful.

We'd have a better chance to get an elite QB after Ireland is fired.

Can you imagine Matt Ryan with our defense? WOWZA!!

@DevilsAdvocate,

With all his injuries, Jake Long may not make it to year 5. 2 shoulders, 2 knees, and a bad back.

Howie,

Who knows. But Ryan on our team without Long maybe would have had his career ended far sooner.

La Crosse, Wisconsin.

I was watching NFL Network last night....

I thought it was interesting to here Jason Taylor say he couldn't believe that the FINS passed on Drew Brees "twice"....

Something I have read on this blog more times than I can count....

IMO...it give posters on this blog a bit more credibility....and humanizes KT all at the same time....

He wanted...and SAW many of the same things you guys do/did....

Matt Ryan carries the Falcons into the playoffs every year. The Dolphins make it in twice every decade. Let's keep drafting linemen...

DA...I doubt it....

Who is the LT for...

Brees...
Sanchez..
Brady...
Flaco...
Big Ben....
Eli Manning...
Ryan....

you may know some of them..but I doubt you know all or even most....

LTs are not house hold names....and don't need to be #1 draft picks to help the team get to the playoffs....

I think we FIN FANS WAY OVER VALUE a LT.....

kris...Wannstedt could of drafted Brees...Saban could of signed him...That's Miami's biggest problem...Management is clueless...The last good "talent evaluator" the Dolphins had was Jimmy Johnson...On defensive players only.

europe, either you're lost, or I am, because I'm not too sure what you're talking about.

I'll admit, I did rant yesterday. I'm not very happy with my team's performance this year (mostly first half). Not sure what fan is or why'd they be happy with the outcome. And I don't want to see the same mistakes made again next year.

But the poster I called an *sshole, was in response to a troll-like initial personal attack post directed to me. I don't initiate personal attacks, I respond in kind. I haven't called you an *sshole, because even though you disagree with me, you back it up with your opinion about the matter, without engaging in silly troll games under fake names.

As for people calling me out for being wrong and not admitting to them, that must be when I was explaining the failed history of the Miami Dolphins with FA QBs in becoming the franchise QB (I assume). Are you telling me Jay Fiedler and Chad Pennington were franchise QBs (here in Miami)? Seriously? Fiedler is a distant memory to anyone BUT Dolphins fans, and while he went to the Playoffs a couple times and that's better than what's happened lately, I don't think anyone would seriously consider him a franchise QB. He was a bridge. That's why he was released. And Pennington was a great QB for us...FOR ONE YEAR!!! How can that be a franchise QB?

That was the point of my posts. That's why people bringing up those silly examples to my initial ultimate concern of garnering a franchise QB were not "proving me wrong." I wish I would be wrong, because then I wouldn't have been a fan of a team in decline for the last 10-15 years like I have. Which again goes to all those QBs people like to mention who had a good year, or a couple good years, here in Miami. If they were so great, then why have we been to the Playoffs so infrequently in the last decade or two? Or won many Playoff games? Or been to a Championship game? Or to a SB? Or won a SB? If those QBs were so effective, why do they keep getting replaced with regularity? Peyton Manning's been the QB for the last decade roughly. One guy. In that time we've had what 15+, roughly. What does that say about the quality of the QBs here in that time?

See, point-of-view and perception and comprehension are important pieces to have to understand a post. It's not as "black-and-white" as you like to think.

Well Kris

I refer you to 2010. Our line was so bad beyond Long we couldn't run or throw. Remove a top LT from the equation and anything is possible.

Those teams you mention were superior in oline, rb, te, wr and coaching.

Not remotely a valid comparison.

Jake Long is not a difference maker. Has he helped us into the playoffs? Do we have a good record because of him? Fins were 2-0 without Jake Long. Huge botch not drafting Matt Ryan.

#1....I agree on Jimmy.....I wish he had stuck around....

I think P. Manning and Edgrin James helped usher him into early retirement....

When you have nothing, and coming off 1-15, drafting an all world monster LT is not unwarranted, and cannot be compared to drafting a LT #1 on a team that is already well put together.

Maybe Bowles is the best man for next year. How can anyone know until he gets a chance? Nobody knew who Mike Tomlin was. Nobody knew who John Harbaugh was. Not saying Bowles will become any of those guys but you never know. He must be respected cause a lot of teams sure as hell want to interview him. Funny, a lot of people want the "sexy name"...How has that worked out for the last 15 years?

Did Ireland ask Bowles if his momma's a hooka?

The only "sexy name" I wanted all along is Bill Cowher. Not on the Fisher bandwagon.

Harbaugh turned us down...Fisher will probably turn us down...Gee Mr.Ross, how come nobody is interested in Miami?? Can you read between the lines?

DA...

The cowboys drafted Troy aikmen coming off of 1-15.....they owned the 90's...

The Colts drafted P. Manning coming off 1-15.....

they were relevant in deciding who was going to the SB every year for the past 10 years...and made two trips themselves....

We drafted a LT coming off of 1-15.....what has that gotten us....

Howie

I refer you to the debate I was having with Kris above. Your questions are answered there.

It's a worthy discussion, but I don't see any right answer. Only differences of opinion.

kris, 02:05PM, amen brother...EXACTLY!

ATL drafted Ryan after 2-14....

Playoffs every year....

That means you have a chance....

with our "all world" LT....our season ends my mid-OCT...sometime were relevant to thanksgiving....

Kris

The difference again is, nobody, NOBODY, saw Ryan as Aikmen or Manning. By draft day nobody had Ryan worthy of a #1 overall pick.

To quote Parcells, 'with QB's you just never know'. In hindsight he said maybe they should have taken Ryan, but at the time, which is the only thing that counts, the brand new regime didn't want to reach or blow it.

Kris

There are really two different arguments here.

What should we have done in hindsight?
What was justifiable at the time of the pick?

Nobody gets the benefit of hindsight in making decisions.

and DA....

in the END...they STILL blew it.....

Miami better learn to develop players. We only have a few "elite" players on this team. Without proper coaching, they won't do anything to escape mediocrity.
