Source: Bowles return to Dolphins unlikely

Joe Philbin is about the business of hiring a coaching staff right now. And while many of Miami's assistant coaches are excellent at what they do and the club denied some of them permission to interview with other clubs the past two weeks, their chances of staying seem slim now.

Philbin talked to interim head coach Todd Bowles Sunday and the message didn't exactly suggest the new coach is eager to retain Bowles. In fact, a source close to Bowles just told me the club's secondary/assistant head coach/interim head coach will not return to the Dolphins.

Obviously this can change at the last minute -- just google Chip Kelly. But Bowles is not in Mobile, Ala. for the Senior Bowl representing the team and he was told to feel free to search for other opportunities if he likes.

Bowles and Philbin are scheduled to speak again on Wednesday to finalize the plan for the assistant, but the source tells me the vibe when Philbin and Bowles talked last time was he was told he's free to find another job and Philbin would not hold him back.

The Wednesday meeting, meanwhile, is not expected to be anything formal. It's supposed to be a phone call, unless Philbin changes his mind between now and then.

Bowles, meanwhile, is going to do exactly what he was told: He has one year remaining with on his Dolphins contract. But he's going to search for opportunities elsewhere.

He's not alone. Philbin is setting a course to revamp the Miami offensive staff. I was told not to expect too many coaches to be retained from that offensive staff.

One coach who is not expected to be retained is offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo. Philbin, a former offensive line coach, wants to instill his way of doing things and he obviouslyy wants his people. He has already reportedly reached out to Jacksonville offensive line coach Andy Heck. Googs, as he is affectionately called in the building, is headed to the New York Jets with longtime friend Tony Sparano, according to a league source.

[Update: The Florida Times Union is reporting the Jaguars are retaining Heck.]

Wide receiver coach Steve Bush also leaving the Miami staff, according to a source in the agent industry. Assistant wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard's status is uncertain, according to the same source.

[Update: Hilliard has been hired by the Washington Redskins, that team announced today.]

Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll had feelers from other teams after the regular season. The Dolphins denied him permission to interview elsewhere, according to a source. While his fate in Miami has not been sealed, it is a long shot he will return to the staff, according to a source.

Daboll may wind up in either Kansas City or with the New York Jets.

A source close to linebacker coach Bill Sheridan also tells me he'll be leaving the Dolphins. Sheridan was with the team two seasons.

odiseye--For the record, I HAVE posted here before. Under this same name. Multiple times. Who the eff are you, the "blog principal" or something?

Second, I'll write about anything I damn well please here. Capisco? You have NO vote in that, junior.

As for me mentioning my sexuality, if it bugs you that's also too damn bad. For the record, I doubt many people here are really very interested in your dreary (and likely fabricated) tales of sexual conquest---but maybe you're the one needing the ego boost.

We can opt for a respectful discourse here, but it will be on equal terms, not on yours. Got it?

jt, as you can see, there's a bunch of children on the blog. It really doesn't matter if you're gay or not, all that matters is if you're a Dolphins fan, and have anything to add to the conversation.

Also, if you've ever been part of a sports team, you'll know that this "juvenile sexual innuendo" gets bandied about all the time. Just how straight guys act.

I think if we can come up with a new term for straight men being effeminate, then we can do away with the "gay" word as a slur. Usually, when straight guys say that word, it has nothing to do with man-on-man sex or a sexual preference, they're really saying someone is a girlie man.

Anyway, that's my take on it. Really we all need to live and let live.

I hope none of Sparano's ex-coaches are retained. Get rid of all the NY Garbage he brought in.

Check out Sparano's You Tube video interview as a new jets coach. Will make you vomit gang green.

Sparano and the Jets are match made in hell.

What?

Philbin 9 years OC Packers.
Daboll 2 years OC (Browns Fins)
There would be something very very very wrong if Philbin thinks Daboll can help him!

Posted by: Helmet | January 23, 2012 at 04:39 PM

I think you're missing the point. Philbin has already said that he wants an OC that can call plays for him. It's Philbin's belief that as a Head Coach, he'll be too busy for that particular responsibility.

I think this is the perfect plan for Philbin as it's basically a continuation of exactly what he's been doing in Green Bay. He wasn't calling plays there, but played an integral role in preparing the offense for games, and preparing the offensive game plan.

With Daboll(or whomever he chooses), it will be business as usual.

I wouldn't count Daboll out because of being relatively inexperienced. Philosophical differences are of course, a different matter altogether.

what?

Way to go Johnny Pollcat big thumbs up.

There was no homsosexual intent on behalf of my posts.

...."And while many of Miami's assistant coaches are excellent at what they do".....

LOL....good one Armando.....thats some funny stuff....

The Doctor is IN!!!!

PrimeMaster,
Queer boy, this site is for dolphin fans. not a track meet for ferrys like you.

Leave now,

Twisted fool.

I think Philbin just wants his own staff like all new coaches do.....retianing anyone from the old ways doesnt exactly express change in the air for miami.....cleaning house is the right thing to do with guys like bowles and daboll...

There is the song of Scotland that goes TOO RA LOO RA LOO RA TOO RA LOO RA LOO RA LOO RA LOO TOO RA LOO RA LOO LA LA LOO RA TOO RA

I have thought of this today.

Someone was using my name and spelled it incoorectly. Silly Sally!!

Isn't that strange superPHIN? A guy who was hired to turn around a franchise wanting to get rid of the old guard who's sh*t he came to clean up. Who does he think he is?

Brilliant I say chap... Just brilliant. I also like to lick sweaty feet, like a certain chubby NY coach... mmmmm toe jam.

No surprise Miami has a bunch of hommmo fans. Gay town, gay team, gay results. Change the team colors to pink and yellow.

Why Biff you could be the HEAD cheerleader for our team.

The dolphins should add some ribbon and lace to their uniforms. I think it would be so cute.

The DOG OF ENGLAND will make FIG JAM for me today!

exactly DC,

isnt that the whole point of a new coach, is fisher an @sshole for doing the exact same thing in st louis....I dont hear any bit%hing up there from thier fans on getting spagnola and his staff out of town..quite the reverse opinion actually....just sayin!!!

Biff, appears you play for the other side also, considering your knowledge of uniform colors and ribbons. Huuuuzah for Biff your the cream in my coffee....

..I think it was Inamounts who posted this last night..I agree with him 100 percent. The subject was the importance of a pass catching tight end.

We have gone over this for the last 3 years. This is definitlety one of the areas that if you are critical of Ireland..You have every right. To join the ranks of the modern NFL..We have to address this position. There are the arguments that we did by aquiring Clay, and he is still developing..That Fasano was affective when he wasn't babysitting Columbo..Both truths. I suppose as a team, if the Fo believes we can be dynamic with these 2...It will be a position we once again ignore. IMO, we are falling behind other offenses because we have not been able to incorperate the tight end consistantly enough to scare any defenses into having to game plan around these guys.

This is a copycat league. Every good offense has at least one guy, sometimes 2 that the quarterback can look to as their security blanket. An atheletic guy that creates mismatches all over the field...I know a lot of folks here are lobbying for WR..Blackmon. That's great. But what position will really make a bigger difference at this point? I say tight end..IMO addressing this spot is much more important then WR..

My appologies to the regulars. I don't oven get baited these days but after a few Becks....I'm ready to kick some ass.

No apology required Bro.

I live in the Upper Penisula of Michigan. It's 99.9% Finish and Norwegians(no differences really, except with the extremely old school hardliners). It's been this way here since before Michigan was even a State.

While not racists, their sense of community and culture goes back to Viking Days. They consider everyone outsiders. The comical part is that about 80% of our economy(**Now Days**) is based on tourists. Or what they affectionately refer to as TERRORISTS-LOL!

ValHalla!!!!

Darryl,

Great point, TE is a huge need for this team and as we saw in the playoffs and in the season, guys like Graham, Davis,Finley, and not to mention what Gronki has done for NE only prove the point that a good play maker at TE is one that is just as affective as a good pass blocker...

Hopefully Miami will finally realize this in the draft and free agency...but I doubt it!!!

I Am going to hold Philbin accountable and hold him to the same scruitiny SpOrano got, let the guy do his thing. Let the pieces fall where they may.

LMAOROTF, Ohhhh Odin, Iam Sure that scares the new coach..LOL, What a Old Fool, Dude, Take some Meds and sleep it off.

This is why Stehpen Ross is such a dunce. He takes a bum like Joe Philbin, who had never headcoached nor called a play in his life, and he lets that guy make hugely important decisions about coaching personnel? The players played their butts off for Todd Bowles and won 2 outta 3 tough division games for him. And now some unknown midwestern 50-year-old whose son was a convicted rapist sweeps into town and wants to change everything? And Ross ALLOWS him to? Ridiculous.

And idea for DC position would be Jim Leavitt, who is now the 49ers LB coach. He developed players like Pierre Paul and Mike Jenkins when he was head coax at USF in Tampa. I am sure he would love to come back to Florida.

well well well

VIKINGS WERE WELL KNOW TO BE GAY.THEY GO TO OTHER LANDS AND FIND ALL YOUNG MEN TO HAVE SEXX WITH.IT TRUE,I SAW IN ON HISTORY CHANNEL.

How about a hot beef injection ladies??

Loco... thats hot. mmmmmmmmmmmm

whoa.....WHoa.......WHOA!!!!

I included an apology just in case you are a legitimate poster. I'll offer it again, MY BAD! OK?

Sorry, but the idiotic stuff that screws up this blog was just getting to me for a minute.

I don't care about your preferences whatsoever! I guess I'm guilty of the same in some of my prior posts about the Hotties.

BUTT(no pun intended), when you bring up your particular preference here, it sets the whackos off on all kinds of sick and disgusting rants, that far surpass anything I post.

I think in your case, you'd be better served to keep it to yourself. BUT, if you want to feed into the idiocy, by all means, knock yourself out.

Again, My Apology!

BUTT(no pun intended)-
why not spell it correctly than if it was not intended your homophobe.

In with the old, out with the new, eh tony??*lmao*

Not to mention it was the NE game where they held a 17-0 lead just to blow it away in one of those aformentioned division games....if two 7-9 seasons followed up by a 6-10 season entitles you to have bowles stick around, then pass the *frosted* wheateys to my side my friend and join the wee york sparano fan club cuz you are of the losing mold.....

Odin-
SHut up.

An interesting question about Philbin is what players (from Green Bay) will he bring to Miami? Most new coaches bring one or two smart players from their former team to help implement their system. I know Finley's contract is up, but I can't believe there is any way GB let's him go. What other player's contract is up in GB that Thompson most likely will not retain?

Apology duly noted and appreciated. I was pretty steamed over some of the posts myself.

No harm, no foul. Onwards!

Sorry, but the idiotic stuff that screws up this blog was just getting to me for a minute.

But Odin, You post 97% BS on this blog.Such as you played for E.W.A.F, And Duane Allmen And your not even near 50 yet,Please dissappear.

Cool to see Philbin making his own team... We need to get away from the last 4 years.

odinseye---for the record, that "other" me telling you to shut up is some idiot.

I'm actually outta here now so if you see the name again after this (today, anyway) that ain't me!

Someone let the looney hounds loose in here today!

..I know a lot of guys will be lobbying for Jermichael Finley.. I would move forward with caution here. He isn't the same player he was a few years ago..Injuries, and the dropsies have plagued him the last 2 seasons..Philbin will be the best indicator of Finleys ceiling, or ability to contribute in the future..If are not agressive trying to aquire Finley..I will trust Philbin as he will know best either way.

We gave Chef Boyardi aka Pist Fumps a few years, lets give Coach a few to right this ship.

I Am going to hold Philbin accountable and hold him to the same scruitiny SpOrano got, let the guy do his thing. Let the pieces fall where they may.

Nice DoucheBag, except you had to change what I said in order to pretend you have a point to make.

Pretty Weak Sister. Stick with the Gay Trolling, you're way better at it. You seem like a natural.

What I actually said was *If* Philban is being held accountable, he SHOULD get to pick his own staff.

Why don't you address my actually statement? Oh, that's right, Too Complicated for the Blog Hit Troll ;)

The Giants have stuck with a game plan and a coach for a long time. Super bowl and another super bowl this year. Why doesn't that same philosophy apply to Miami?

Posted by: klndry

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Cause doing the same thing over and over again and failing is the definition of insanity. Miami has for the most part been running the same scheme on offense since Marino left (minus the Wildcat). Time for a massive change.

Isnt there a moderator on this site ? This is ridiculous !

Man... hostile in here today!!

Odin, Tell us about what a Big Rock star You are? LMAOROTF

IT IS TRUE OF THE VIKINGS..,.IN THE OLDEN DAYS THEY WOULD GET ON THERE BOATS AND THEN GO TO OTHER LANDS TO SEARCH FOR THE YOUNG BOYS AND MEN WHO WERE MOST HANSOME AND THEN THEY WOULD CAPTORE THEM AND TAKE THEM BACK TO THE VIKING LANDS TO BE THERE SEX SLAVES..,.//AND ONLY ONCE A YEAR THEY WOULD HAVE THEM HAVE SEX WITH THE VIKING LADYS SO THEY WOULD MAKE BABYS. BUT THE REST OFTHE TIME THE LADYS WOULD BE IN THERE CAVES AND THE VIKING MEN AND THERE BOY SLAVES WOULD SLEEP TPGETHER

Great point, TE is a huge need for this team

Posted by: superPHIN | January 23, 2012 at 05:14 PM

Great point????????

Hasn't that point been made 12,357 times in the last two months already?

I swear you guys repeat the same stuff over and over and over and over and over.

Don't you get sick of it? Do you just pretend its the first time you are discussing it?

if we can get finley, I'm all in he is by far more talented than any TE's we've had here in the longest time, although I think GB will franchise him faster than flynn if they are unable to offer him a contract worth staying for...which would open the door to flynn coming to miami........and although that doesnt sound totally appealing to some , Id perfer that over 35 yr old neck injured manning coming here....

Aloco was a male sex slave in a previous life! That's why he's the "buffet of sex slavery knowledge!"

Hey, anybody here think we should look to upgrade at QB?

Right tackle, too. Columbo sucks. Nobody here has mentioned that.

This is such a nice place to learn!!

The Dolphins are a football team. They need better players to win more.

Thank you.
