Source: Bowles return to Dolphins unlikely

Joe Philbin is about the business of hiring a coaching staff right now. And while many of Miami's assistant coaches are excellent at what they do and the club denied some of them permission to interview with other clubs the past two weeks, their chances of staying seem slim now.

Philbin talked to interim head coach Todd Bowles Sunday and the message didn't exactly suggest the new coach is eager to retain Bowles. In fact, a source close to Bowles just told me the club's secondary/assistant head coach/interim head coach will not return to the Dolphins.

Obviously this can change at the last minute -- just google Chip Kelly. But Bowles is not in Mobile, Ala. for the Senior Bowl representing the team and he was told to feel free to search for other opportunities if he likes.

Bowles and Philbin are scheduled to speak again on Wednesday to finalize the plan for the assistant, but the source tells me the vibe when Philbin and Bowles talked last time was he was told he's free to find another job and Philbin would not hold him back.

The Wednesday meeting, meanwhile, is not expected to be anything formal. It's supposed to be a phone call, unless Philbin changes his mind between now and then.

Bowles, meanwhile, is going to do exactly what he was told: He has one year remaining with on his Dolphins contract. But he's going to search for opportunities elsewhere.

He's not alone. Philbin is setting a course to revamp the Miami offensive staff. I was told not to expect too many coaches to be retained from that offensive staff.

One coach who is not expected to be retained is offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo. Philbin, a former offensive line coach, wants to instill his way of doing things and he obviouslyy wants his people. He has already reportedly reached out to Jacksonville offensive line coach Andy Heck. Googs, as he is affectionately called in the building, is headed to the New York Jets with longtime friend Tony Sparano, according to a league source.

[Update: The Florida Times Union is reporting the Jaguars are retaining Heck.]

Wide receiver coach Steve Bush also leaving the Miami staff, according to a source in the agent industry. Assistant wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard's status is uncertain, according to the same source.

[Update: Hilliard has been hired by the Washington Redskins, that team announced today.]

Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll had feelers from other teams after the regular season. The Dolphins denied him permission to interview elsewhere, according to a source. While his fate in Miami has not been sealed, it is a long shot he will return to the staff, according to a source.

Daboll may wind up in either Kansas City or with the New York Jets.

A source close to linebacker coach Bill Sheridan also tells me he'll be leaving the Dolphins. Sheridan was with the team two seasons.

I'm on my way to Italy!

To Mr.Marsalis- I love the Dolphins and I am from Virginia. Maybe you should look up the best state to do business two yrs. in a row. That's right Virginia, where if you have car trouble or need help with anything while in our state, some old redneck will surely stop and help you out. I would hate to be broke down on some back street in Miami. Might as well call the police or homicide. Maybe some cuban will help you out- of your wallet or car!

Urdaddy.

Rainbow village is looking for you. Some of you need to go back to your village. Hurry up ferrys there waiting.

Felix

Its true. Italian men are pigs. No respect. They will be in a restaurant and see a cute girl at another table and stare at them making stupid kissing noises. On the street, they grab at them. They are cavemen. Most girls don't like it but they tolerate it. Here you go to jail. Their you can get your cheap thrills if you are a low class EyeTaliano pig, most are.

My name is Jerry and I approve this post.

That's so cute, Von Dork......do you have both hands on the keyboard?
You've gotten so good at that one-handed typing technique. To to rename yourself after your idol...how cute.

Certainly, he's not stupid. If he really wants, he will find that QB. Believe me.

I have read it said that Head Coaches are as good as the Staff they assemble. Yes. But, their Staff, other's Staff, do they recognize what kind of Staff..? Hmm..

Man, Football is winding this Season down..

Curious why I can't get into any other Sport. I will go to that real Baseball Marlins Park, and eat a hot-dog.

Why nobody answer?

Thats right...do what makes you happy Joe...clean the slate bare - its your house!! plus nobody on the current staff will be missed one bit!

Then it's our wish.

Oscar,

Just stopping bye. No one's answering because no one's here. No one really cares what happens Dolphins until free agency then the draft.

Enjoy the cricket opera until then. LOL

Sparano and Oline coach DeGuglielmo to the Jets. Next Jets recruit: oh please let be Colombo.

YG,

Giants Vs. Pats, Super Bowl or 49ers and Ravens loss in giving those games away in their own respects??

Wow. What a day. I see odin's post at three fourty whatever and agree with it. Uptempo offense... only need to count to 4. First post I can remember in a long time where odin showed some sense.

Then... I read Philbin is looking at Sherman for OC? WTF? Now, as you all should know if you can read, I wanted Philbin. I said he would do great. But Sherman? The guy Philbin replaced and the Packers offense then became dynamic?

The buddy boy system of the NFL sucks. I know some of you don't understand anything except the buddy system.

Now, do remember, I said Philbins success depends entirely on the staff he puts together. If Sherman is an indication, my hopes are diminishing rapidly.

fin4,

Nobody gives away a game when it comes be the last 4 teams standing. Either one of two things happen.

A. One team beats the crap out of the other.

OR

B. One team out lasts the other.

This year's afc-nfc championship showcase was clearly B.

YG,

Normally your thinking here is as sound as a pound but disagree with this years AFC/NFC Champ's.

The AFC Champ. was more like a comedy of errors in the last 10 minutes that resembled more a who wants it least contest in it's last few minutes.

The NFC game was dominated by the 49ers Offensively and Defensively but blown wide open by their ST's. I really don't know IF without the 1st fumble the Giant O gets that late go ahead TD which clearly shifted momentum back and forth. That one really came down to the 1st team to error looses at that point.

NCW,

Sherman is the next HC of the Bucs or at least rumored to have it in the bag.

Is anybody really surprised by this? The cloudminders, maybe, but after all this is still part of the ESSENE plan of ALL ONE KNOWLEDGE. You may need SCISORS to find the exit from this COMUNIST COUNTRY

fin4life--how do you know?

Armando: now serving news from other reporters.

I ASKED YOU A QUESTION FIN4LIFE

When thinking future Dolphins Quarterback I can't help but wonder if Danny Marino Jr. couldn't be wowed away from his Drama College by a big money offer. I mean most great Quarterbacks are serious eye candy when you exclude Rapelesberger and Payton forehead and of course when talking eye candy there was no greater looker than Dan Juniors daddy, the kid has those types of looks. The first time I saw him at his dads HOF induction I tossed a load and wiped it all over my socks. So please Coach Philbin no Flynn who is one fugly looking Irish Mick and lets be honest Coach with that face of yours only a mother could love you need the hotness on the sideline, also keep M.Moore as a great looking back up to signal in for you taking the camera of that bald head of yours, time to give some back rubs in the steam room !

ot,

Was watching total access were I saw that Sherman is going for the 2nd interview with Tampa now that Chip Banks is staying at Oregon.

JESUS!! Puking @12:15!!

That wasn't my question but never mind!

ot,

So what is the ?? then

It doesn't matter. I don't think you know, anyway. It's ok.

You opened the line of ?? so try me, is it regarding my take on the games or something else.

No, it was something else but I decided it was not important to know anymore. Thank you.

Yes, it was about the games but that is all I want to say.

Now, do remember, I said Philbins success depends entirely on the staff he puts together.

What a fvcking tart. So, duh, the Coaches success depends on his stff?

Thanks for the insight there Einsrtein!

RTFLMFAO! BRILLIANT-Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh!

odin,

How's it go Bro!! Do me a favor and read my post @11:43 and tell me what's so difficult to get from my point of view or what it is that I wrote that in your take I'm supposed to know outside of obviously seen the games.

You know, your ability to breathe largely depends on the availability of air!

Look at me everybody, look! I'm as smart and condescending as Captain Obvious/New Coach wanted!

One sec Fin4.

First I wanted to sound as smart and intelligent as New Coach Wanted.

AHEM(here goes).......My good people, listen and be astonished! The Dolphins ability to swim depends largely upon WATER!

Dooh!

odin,

I'm actually partial to watching grass grow and you forgot that without gravity weight would be unsustainable.

As incredible as the evolution of the Engine is it would actually be rather worthless in motor vehicles without the invention of the round wheel!!

I mean can you imagine driving on square wheels! Also C-A-T actually spells DOG!!

Fin4,

Some might want to call it "outlasting" the other team.

That's fine. I just don't know how you call missing a chip shot field goal and two special teams fumbles on your own end of the field, outlasting someone.

I remember the Marino led Dolphins out lasting the Kelly led Bills(and visa versa) in some great games where the team that had the ball last won.

I don't see how ANY of that translates into the major BLUNDERS that decided this weekends Championship games.

I mean come on, you saw the games. How is a winning the game on a shanked chipshot outlasting?

How about the two fumbles? Without these the Giants were toast.

People can spin it anyway they wany and for whatever reasons. I don't care. But outlasting another team to me means outscoring them with some blazing offense. A hard tough fought battle won on some last second heroics.

The Giants/Niners game was the most obvious. The lesser team got two late Gift Wrapped Christmas Presents and BACKED into the big show. They were on the ropes when the second string returner started choking.

I see it the same way 100% and will throw a different spin on it for you. I believe the D's can get into a WAR of attrition and outlast each other as well but that isn't what I saw and from what I've been reading we may be in the minority.

Judging by a lot of what I read here, I'm GLAD to be in the Minority!

Shut up.

Ditto @1:23,

That aside I think the Giants are the more complete team in exploiting the opponents weaknesses in this SB. Brady will get another dose of the killer pass rush he saw in the 07 SB and Manning should be able to pick apart the Pats DB's in the 3 WR set with Nicks, Manningham and Cruz.

Saying we would covet a healthy Peyton Manning is like saying water covets wet.

I think a good staff, helps, a Head Coach but does not make him. Too many times I saw disorganization on the sidelines during Tony's tenure here, specially at the end of Games in time-constrained situations. Surprisingly, I saw it also in that rushed FG try by the 49ers last Sunday. But, yes, good Head Coaches have good staffs. Shula did.

Not neccessarily are we to run a West Coast offence. Adaptability to his personnel is a hallmark of a good Coach and, really, Miami has drafted in the Bill Parcell's fashion since 2007 and maybe except for last year.

That Tom Coughlin is sure an ugly looking MF for a good HC.

Didn't know that ref Riveron was born in Cuba. Sure has an impressive voice.

Read the other day a complain by a US citizen that Cubans seemed to be always involved in crucial matters in this country. Cuba is 90 miles away. There is no escaping them, or them us.
