Brandon Marshall was ballin' late Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins wide receiver took over the Pro Bowl and scored four touchdowns -- on catches of 74, 29, 47 and 3 yards -- and set a record with six catches for 176 yards.
No biggie, right? It's only the Pro Bowl, right? Nobody cares about the Pro Bowl, right? Do that during the season when it counts, right?
Well, right ... and wrong.
Look, Marshall obviously did his best work in a game that doesn't count, winning the MVP award and making the Dolphins organization look good. And, yes, we all wish he would do this kind of work in games the Dolphins are playing.
But the point I'm making here is this game gave you a view of the possibilities. It showed you what Marshall might look like if he had a Pro Bowl quarterback throwing him the ball every game. Argue all you want that players were going only half-speed, but in that game of players going half-speed, Marshall was still the best player.
Argue he had a Pro Bowl receiver on the other side, helping him, but you must still admit he was the best receiver on the field. And you cannot dismiss the fact every receiver was working against a Pro Bowl secondary. Every one of them.
And in that venue, in that sitiuation, Marshall was still be best receiver in the game.
So I submit that if the Dolphins someday, perhaps in 2012, give Marshall a Pro Bowl quarterback to work with, his work definitely would look better.
How do I know this?
Irving Fryar was mediocre in New England for years and years and he came to Miami to play with Dan Marino and suddenly he was a 1,000-yard receiver. Nat Moore's career was left for dead when he played with Don Strock and David Woodley.
When Marino came on the scene, Moore's career was suddenly revived.
The point I'm making is simple: A better quarterback makes the receiver better. Even Marshall admitted that after the game.
"Since Jay Cutler I've had a few different quarterbacks and being in the Pro Bowl you have these elite quarterbacks and it's all them," he said. "They put [the ball] in the right spots and make it easy for me to make the catch. It's all the quarterbacks."

matt moore is garbage, lets get a real qb for once

Im sure Lion fans loved every momment of it Odin....still dont understand why stafford wasnt picked over him as a sub in....not that it matters but I guess it couldve given marshall a chance at 5-6 scores if the NFC wouldve kept up the scoring on their end....
Hell, marshall could've made the pro bowl HOF*lmao*

It was a 2nd Rounder after the Panthers pounced on Ryan Kalil who we were targeting all the way.

yes welker for satele, awful deal
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 30, 2012 at 05:22 PM
dusty,
Welker was traded in 07 for a #2 to N.E. along with C.Chambers to S.D. for a #3, since we had drafted the great Ted Ginn Jr. Cameron didn't see the need for these players. He did however after getting beat to the punch on Kalil draft Satele Rd.2 Whom Parcells would trade in 09 for a 5th Rounder to Oaktown because he thought he had hit a coup with the always injured J.Grove.

Marshall should focus on catching the ball when the games count. The guy had six dropped TDs this year. He would have had elite WR numbers if he had just caught those balls. I'm not saying he wouldn't do better with an elite QB (I think I could catch a few passes if Drew Brees was throwing to me), but I think that Marshall's lack of TDs this year is more his own fault than anyone else's.

THE FIN FANS
Posted by: ALoco | January 30, 2012 at 05:35 PM
and chambers was for a 2nd rounder also
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 30, 2012 at 05:35 PM
Sorry dusty,
I get what you meant know and yes Samson Satele with the Welker pick was a real stinker! Then watching Parcells dump him for nothing just cemented the whole process!
Posted by: fin4life | January 30, 2012 at 05:35 PM
Chambers I'm pretty sure was for a #3 though.
Posted by: fin4life | January 30, 2012 at 05:36 PM
for a 2nd to sd, he was awful there. cut him not long after
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 30, 2012 at 05:39 PM
From Chambers BIO
This trade makes no sense and was a foolish move. Having a second-round pick does not mean the Dolphins will get a great player in the draft, so it's questionable. The NFL draft is a hit-and-miss situation; it's a gamble. Sometimes teams draft great players, and at times teams draft players that are thought to be a great and have failed miserably.
I apologize and stand corrected dusty!
Posted by: fin4life | January 30, 2012 at 05:39 PM
yeah hindsight tells us it was a great move getting a 2nd rd pick for him
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 30, 2012 at 05:41 PM
FIN4LIFE..........
WHY DON'T YOU PICK A DIFFERENT TOPIC ?
ALL THAT DRAFT TALK IS I=USELESS ......
Posted by: ALoco | January 30, 2012 at 05:43 PM
dusty,
He actually wasn't bad and gave them a good #2 WR but it became difficult to keep him and his contract with the emergence of Vincent Jackson, Malcolm Floyd and Naanee, especially with Jackson coming into a contract year and Chambers sitting on a 5 Mil a year base. He did well opposite D.Bowe in K.C.
Posted by: fin4life | January 30, 2012 at 05:44 PM
ALoco
What draft talk?? Were talking about some BAD trades
Posted by: fin4life | January 30, 2012 at 05:45 PM

SORRY FIN,I MEANT (( TRADE TALK ))..........
Posted by: ALoco | January 30, 2012 at 05:47 PM
Had Marshall not have dropped TD passes, Maybe HENNE would have looked elite! Moore as well, after HENNE went down. ISnt the WR's job to make the qb look good? Like Jerry Rice made Montana and Steve Young look good? I am tired of players wanting others to make them look good, it is a team sport, any players job is to make his team look good, so in theory, MARSHALLS job was to make HENNE look good, Matt Moore look good, as much as it is the qb's job to make him look good?
Posted by: Bravphin | January 30, 2012 at 05:48 PM
nobody can make henne look good, not even jerry rice
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 30, 2012 at 05:49 PM
THANKS BREVPHIN, MARSHALL DID SABOTAGED HENNE ,,,,EVERY ONE KNOWS THAT ......
Posted by: ALoco | January 30, 2012 at 05:52 PM
dusty,
Chambers was a #2 WR and not a terrible one he played in an O geared to throwing to TE Gates and was hurt half the time. In that 33 Rec season you mention I believe he only played 10 games and if memory serves he was there for 2 seasons because I remember when cut in 09 I was a bit miffed Miami needing a WR didn't try to resign him and after being cut in the half year he was in K.C. I remember he caught around 40 balls for close to an 18 yard average.
Posted by: fin4life | January 30, 2012 at 05:57 PM
dusty,
That I'm sure of because I kept a watch on what he did out there because of the fact we didn't even bring him in for a physical.

Marshall is a head case and what he did in that joke of a football game just reinforces what we already know. He is a supremely talented player with a disaster between his ears.
Posted by: zx9000 | January 30, 2012 at 06:02 PM
zx9000 u could catch td passes in a pro bowl. those guys were laughing with each other. not trying at all, nobody even wanted to tackle players

They changed the culture here.
Two of the biggest over rated, over Bloated, outdated, over the hill guys that just didn't know when to retire!

dusty.....who are YOU to judge HENNE ? YOU R A FIN FAN WHO ARE FAMOUS FOR IGNORANCE .
Posted by: ALoco | January 30, 2012 at 06:39 PM
Is Brandon Marshall saying, "Get me a real franchise quarterback and I'll play like I did in the Pro Bowl or I will keep dropping easy touchdowns in the endzone."?
Sounds that way to me. He put's on a performance like he did in the Pro Bowl and keeps running at the mouth that an elite quarterback will make it easier for him to catch the ball. To me, he's definitely saying he will continue to drop easy passes if someone like Moore starts again.
So, did Brandon drop passes on purpose?
Posted by: Jimmy Kimmel | January 30, 2012 at 06:39 PM

I'm always amused by the "we passed on Brees" comments....as if he wouldn't have been run out of town on a rail just like he was in SD.
You guys do recall that he showed nary a glimpse of promise until his 4th season right? You recall that he was benched with 5 or 6 games left in his 3rd season in favor of Doug Flutie? You recall that he showed so much promise that the Chargers went out and got Rodgers?
Brees didn't break out until he went to New Orleans with a chip on his shoulder, and even that was a gamble. A lot of people in the NFL had concerns about the shoulder surgery, as well as concerns in RE to what kind of QB Brees actually was. Many thought Brees was a pretty decent to good QB that benefited greatly by having Gates and particularly LT in the backfield.
Everyone acts like taking him in the draft and/or taking him when New Orleans did was a no brainer....it wasn't. Just everyones revisionist history.

Miami Dolphins are not an expansion Team and it will be difficult to weed out whatever talent does not fit the upcoming philosophy here. Still, these are quality Coaches that were brought here and they might help Ireland make the decisions on personnel.
Posted by: oscar canosa | January 30, 2012 at 06:52 PM
no they wont help ireland cause he wont allow it
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 30, 2012 at 06:54 PM
now its brees. you guys have repeated that brees story 19000 times. yeah, he took 4 years to get it together. you all are such gossip queens like girls talking about make up.
Posted by: bill conners | January 30, 2012 at 06:54 PM
wolf,
I think you said RODGERS.....it was actually Rivers that the Chargers went out and got....no biggie.
Actually, in the 4th season, in which you talked about, Brees FINALLY showed up and make a mark in the NFL. He made the Pro Bowl that year and ended up injurying his shoulder in the game (guess there is some sort of hitting in that game after all...LOL). The problem is the Chargers had already drafted Rivers with the high first pick and they were committed to him. It didn't make sense to pay Brees the big money to keep him on and continue to keep Rivers on the bench.
Posted by: Craig M | January 30, 2012 at 06:58 PM
yes craig but just the fact that they drafted a qb said wonders about what they thought about him and his injury
Posted by: dusty bottoms | January 30, 2012 at 07:00 PM
