Jeff Fisher is going to coach the Rams now. Fine. So the Dolphins lose in that chase. Owner Stephen Ross is left with a black eye because it's the second time he tries to land a coach and fails. So he loses, too. Dolphins fans wanting the certainty of having a tried and experienced head coach also lose.
So the winner in all this?
Jeff Ireland.
Ireland has emerged from a 6-10 season and a coach search in which the team's leading candidate went elsewhere more powerful than ever. Ross picked Ireland while dispatching Tony Sparano. He picked Ireland over Carl Peterson -- because he said Peterson would not join the team to oversee it and Ireland. And Ross picked Ireland over Fisher, keeping the GM as the unquestioned decision-maker over the club while stiff-arming Fisher's desire to have that power.
Jeff Ireland won.
Recognizing this, I asked Ross about Ireland Friday and the owner's words were glowing:
“I think he’s done an outstanding job of creating the team we’ve put on the field the last four years. We’ve got a lot of capability going forward, and I believe we will win moving forward. He has a passion about it. I enjoy working with him. He’s ambitious. He’s bright. He’s a very good GM.”
Ireland's foundation is stronger now than it has ever been. He is stronger than when he answered to Bill Parcells. He is stronger than when he and Sparano were in the proverbial cone of uncertainty after the 2010 season. He is even stronger now than he was in the spring of 2011 when he got a contract extension. I've been telling you for some time that Ross truly does appreciate Ireland. But now there's tangible proof Ross prefers Ireland to a star head coach wanting power over personnel.
Ireland wins.

By the way that's kris/oscar canosa/Aloco/devils advocate immitating me.

It wasn't a fumbell, and he wasn't trying to get more yardage, it was a kickoff return and he was stopped. Result of a slow whistle.

Drew Brees' arm is way underestimated it.

Phins78 @ 4:24.....
I have been saying that for a week....
The stories didn't add up....
I believe half of what I read......and less than 50% of what I see......
Armando wasn't applying critical thinking to his reporting....and neither were the one's that were whipped into a FISHER FRENZY....

Yeah, OK.
I thought you were still talking about the first one, where he got popped. One announcer said it was progress and one official even tried to spot the ball.
The kickoff return was REAL CLOSE either way.

“I think he’s done an outstanding job of creating the team we’ve put on the field the last four years." -Ross quote
Really? REALLY?!
Does Ross understand this 'outstanding' team he has fielding the last 4 years is GARBAGE!

Henne will be our franchise QB. Some of you are not prepared for this. I will prepare you and you will enjoy it. Got it?
Posted by: PriceMaster | January 14, 2012 at 06:01 PM
Barry Jax reporting that Marty made overtures and the Fins told him to pound salt. Billick is a no way - now according to BJ and Armando. Chud has also not been contacted.
These guys are pure effing genius. Cannot wait for another 6-10 season. Seriously, stick with Bowles and just keep it going. Then we will see if the Ireland haters or the Ireland lovers are right. At least Bowles can read what the big hand and little hand are saying, unlike Sparano.
And if I read the name Henne one more time, unless it's that he signed with the Jets (which would just be funny), I'll puke.

I was surprised Turner was a bust, but then again, we aimed low. There's only so many times the trifecta's guessing with average players is going to pan out. Not everybody's going to be a Davone Bess or Lou Polite. Not everybody's gonna overachieve. When you draft average players expect average play.
I can't believe Brees was picked off.
Posted by: Samantha | January 14, 2012 at 06:05 PM
It's inevitable guys will let up just a bit when leading by 17.
Not against Drew Brees Pin Heads!
Besides all the obvious attributes, one of Bree's BIGGEST, maybe most important, is the speed in which his brain processes information.
Thanks again Saban!

LOL JJ...
Posted by: Samantha | January 14, 2012 at 06:08 PM
4 turnovers?
Well, if anyone can overcome that, It would be Bree's!
Posted by: Odin's Bottom | January 14, 2012 at 06:09 PM
I see many poster's on here say we are a "few pieces away".....
If that is the case....then then Ireland......has done his job.....
And Ross has done his by getting rid of Sporano.....
Posted by: Kris | January 14, 2012 at 06:11 PM
Hey Armando why don't you show you're little underlings how many head coaches with total power fail. ZI can name one from the phins now Saban.
Posted by: Scalzo | January 14, 2012 at 06:14 PM
49ers are coached very well and very aggressive but I think they foul a lot. He made the receiver trip and Saints should have had that pass with 12 second left, then kicked a FG.
If this is the way it works in the postseason, like the NBA, then the Saints cornerbacks should start mugging their receivers too.
Posted by: Samantha | January 14, 2012 at 06:19 PM
That's a nice Game.

But how much of that was parcels....
Same with the Dallas rejects.....
Posted by: Kris | January 14, 2012 at 06:27 PM
I think Henne returning is highly unlikely.
With Ireland though, you never know. If he takes another O-lineman, an OLB/DE and CB with the first three picks, he might offer a contract as a back up.
You know, to offer some competition.........for Moore..........Like they supposedly did last year.............(Ahem), Yeah.

Dear Mr. Salguero
The only reason Marty Schottenheimer can not become the next Dolphins head coach is because the NFL would not be able to schedule any 4 pm game for the Dolphins.
Its got somthing to do with the old people blue plate special dinner laws.
But wouldn't it have been cool to see a candy dish with peppermints and other pallet cleansers at the end of the players bench.
Instead of autographs Marty Schottenheimer would give out stacks of pennies to all the young Dolphin fans.
I miss my grandpa

Ireland needs to land RG3 or Blackmon. Most any other player won't be acceptable

we need a quarterback trade up for rg3 or get tebow....coach wise marty billick mike mccoy chip kelly or les miles

Posted by: Kris | January 14, 2012 at 06:39 PM
Resign Henne, draft Blackmon, (pay Jordy Nelson whatever he wants and get him too), draft a RT, steal Finley from Green Bay and the Dolphins offense takes us straight to the playoffs. Its that simple.
Posted by: New Coach Wanted | January 14, 2012 at 06:40 PM
Whoever said trade for Tebow should never post again.
Posted by: New Coach Wanted | January 14, 2012 at 06:42 PM
Yes, Henne will be back and he will beat Moore for the starting job. Many won't be pleased but I will ease your pain with this every way possible.
Posted by: PriceMaster | January 14, 2012 at 06:42 PM
Dear Mr. Salguero
Another problem with a Marty Schottenheimer hire would be the smells eminating from all the Miami Dolphin facilities....Preperation H, Gold Bond, Urine and Adult diapers in all the trash cans.

Whats that 5 for the Niners?
Only a 3 point lead to show?
If they can capitaloize they'd have it made.
Posted by: Odin's Bottom | January 14, 2012 at 06:47 PM
Let's all look through the media's smoke screen. Most of the time the media will only tell us what they want to write. I don't care what Glazer writes as he is an arrogant ***hole.
If Fisher made his decision on Thursday and was keeping it quiet, then this only means that he was power playing the Rams against the Dolphins. If he didn't get a decent deal with the Rams then he goes back to the Dolphins. Fisher's whole decision process was a power play despite his camps report it was not. REALLY!!
Further more, if Jeff Fisher wanted to be here at all he would never have left Miami without a deal. Everyone blames Ross for the backwards Harbaugh incident last year, but that same backwards negotiating can be placed on Fisher this year. Only the media's spin is "he was just trying to get the right situation". Bullcrap!!!
Miami will find a good coach now that they are not blinded by the Fisher BS!
And for all you bloggers with the "I give up" or "I done with this team" attitude, please just MAN UP when (and if) you are proved wrong. Please use the same blogger name when the Phins are winning so we can re-post your ridiculous quotes during the season.

Your worst nightmare is about to come true:
HENNE IS BEING FRANCHISED
It will hurt so bad you will want to off yourself.
I will assist you with the suicide.
And then I will dispose of your corpse down the hotel laundry chute.
The cops will have to label it a homocide and your family will avoid the shame and they can collect on your insurance.
I will not fondle your corpse*.
*kris I will urinate on your corpse; Samantha I may fondle your corpse but I'm not making any promises one way or another.

Wow! Brees even gets do overs?
What a farce. It was a delay of game before he even signaled for a time out.
WTF? The Niners should jusr forfeit, just like last week against the Lions, there obviously ain't NO WAY the Refs are going to let Drew Boy lose!

I just hope Tim T plays decently.
Gator or not, he's a good guy, and the NFL could use a few.

Posted by: PriceMaster | January 14, 2012 at 07:12 PM
priceMaster...Wannstache took 2 years off of Ricky's career by rushing him into the ground. Over 400 carries per season.
However, with a better GM, who knows.
In that case, do we say bygones to Satan, offer him 12 million a year, a piece of the team, and a no fire contract?

At least everybody now knows the structure of the front office. The GM chooses the players and the head coach coaches those players. The GM reports to the owner. The head coach reports to the owner. Hopefully everybody will stop questioning what the structure is and get on with their lives. If the owner had either given Fisher personnel power or if the owner had now fired the GM to land Fisher, it seems a majority of the people on here would be calling the owner a back stabber and not to trust him at all. At least the owner has kept his word and said Ireland is the GM and not going anywhere.
Posted by: rpnp | January 14, 2012 at 07:23 PM
How depressing
A coward and backstabbing GM who quietly tried to replace his good friend Sporano and was no where to be seen during the 0-7 run while Sporano faced the media each week.
Posted by: 72perfectstill | January 14, 2012 at 07:29 PM
GM's don't face the public every week. Just the way it is.
Posted by: Tip | January 14, 2012 at 07:34 PM
Armando do you really think fisher is a star coach, I don't think so, he is better then Sparano but not a star and I doubt he ever wins a super bowl especially going to the Rams, HONESTLY I THINK ROSS HAS DONE EVERYTHING HE COULD SO FAR TO MAKE THE DOLPHINS BETTER EXCEPT FOR MAYBE HANGING ONTO SPARANO TOO LONG , IRELAND HAS DONE A PRETTY GOOD JOB OVERALL, NOT GREAT BUT PRETTY GOOD, THE THING ABOUT DRAFTING PLAYERS AND FREE AGENTS YOU JUST NEVER KNOW HOW THEY ARE GOING TO FIT ON YOUR TEAM, MOST OF OUR PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN ON THE COACHING SIDE WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS LIKE COLUMBO, AND SOME OTHERS. IF THEY ARE NOT GOING FOR BILLICK OR MARTY THEN GO WITH BOWLES OR NOLAN AND KEEP THE CONTINUITY GOING!!!1

TWO TESTICLES ARE BETTER THAN ONE, BASICALLY.
