Dolphins complete coaching staff

The Miami Dolphins today named Blue Adams as assistant defensive backs coach, Charlie Bullen as defensive assistant, Ben Johnson as offensive assistant, Chris Mosley as assistant offensive line coach and also retained running backs coach Jeff Nixon, thus completing coach Joe Philbin’s staff for the upcoming season.

None of the new hires today were coaching in the NFL last year and only Mosely has experience coaching in the NFL at all. My favorite of today's new hires? Adams, of course. He graduated from Miami High in 1997. I graduated from Miami High in 1980.

Seriously, a quick glance at the Dolphins entire coaching staff suggests very little NFL experience is on staff. Eleven of the coaches are NFL rookie coaches in the jobs they are currently charged with doing with the Dolphins, including Philbin, who is a first-time NFL head coach.

Gee you praised Dabol and wanted him to interview for hc, now you are throwing him under the bus. Convenient. Yesterdays heroes are todays goats.

Once Parcells left this Coaching staff has been in complete turmoil top to bottom.

No trust no continuity. When Hennings crap didn't wash, it rolled down hill. He'd blame the players, the assistants, anyone and everyone he could. That kind of enviorment breeds distrust and contempt. It was pure poison.

When Ross realized what he was stuck with in SpOrano, he tried to land Harbaugh. In so doing, he poisoned the kitty even more. A textbook example of dysfunction.

Philbin and Sherman are the real powers that be at this point. They'll keep a close eye on Coyle and try to let him do his thing.

With Rizzi and speacial teams, we already know what were dealing with. I'm fine with it.

As for the rest of the assistants, their a dime a dozen. They'll carry out Philbin, Sherman and Coyles orders or they'll be down the road.

I'll give you an example. Check out the Rooney Rule Canidate Todd Bowles. He's been the defensive backs Coach here for years. How many complaints have you heard about him?

None? Well, how many years now have you felt our secondary has been underacheiving?

How many 1st and 2nd round draft picks does it take? How many free agents?

How can Blue Adams do any worse than Todd Bowles has akready done?

Odin you are scary optimistic. Ross isn't a victim. He's an idiot. We won't win anything until they are both gone

No No Friend.

I praised Daboll and believed him to be head and Shoulders above Hennings. He was, plain and simple(at this point in Hennings career anyways-just to old. Age will get us all).

But I NEVER- I REPEAT-NEVER advocated Daboll as a interview-ee, let alone a Head Coach.

Don't put those words in my mouth. You never head that from me.

How can Blue Adams do any worse than Todd Bowles has akready done?

Good solid points!! Your optimism and glass always half full, lets move forward guns blazing attitude is outstanding!!

You my friend are what I refer to as a WATER WALKER!! All BS aside, it's meant as a compliment!

Was 0-7 an awesome sart last year? Give this staff a chance before being negative........it is only freakin February! For the love of good and evil! Sheesh!

The career of one Dan Hennings was and always will be one of the great enigmatic head scratchers of all time!!

His career was littered with corpses all over the road at every stop save the 2004 Season when he was handed the keys to the Car. Panthers O which was loaded top to bottom going two deep across the board at every position and even there HC John Fox would eventually fire him given the conservative nature and less than inspired play calling!

I remember those Panthers in 05 as defending NFC Champs looking less than imaginative on O right up till they went to Chicago and got bounced by Grossman and the Bears who couldn't do anything Vs. the Car. D and would beat that very explosive Panthers O by a final of something like 14-10!!

He was a friend of Parcells and got alot of slack for it by the ringing endorsement by the fat man. I would have to look it up but believe he was either fired or forced out at every stop!! Again his career is the biggest ENIGMA I've ever had the misfortune of being associated with vicariously through my favorite team, unbelievable!!

Sparano lost me in 09 when he didn't override calls so blatantly stupid. I always watched him with the headset waiting for the moment realizing his career light was dissipating and doing something but was always just left flustered like everybody else by that dear in the headlights stupid look on his face! He got what he deserved!

I'm not sure about Bowles, but Dabol ahd done a great job should be given a chance to interview as HC.

Fin4,

I've been trying to think of how to answer your last post. All I can think of is THANKS. Your kind words made me feel pretty good.

I've just been getting a feeling about Philbin and Sherman compared to SpOrano.

SpOrano was obviously in over his head as a Head Coach. He had guys like Ireland, Pasqualoni and Hennings to work with.

Philbin and Sherman have worked with guys like Holmgren, Farve and Rodgers.

I just get the feeling that the move from Hennings to Daboll is going to seem mild compared to SpOrano to Philbin.

Awwwwwwwwwwwriiiiiiiiiiiiight MIAMI!

(Fingers Crossed Tightly)

Miami Dolphins fans very stupid and poor.
Miami Dolphins owner very smart and rich.
Miami fans want super bowl every year very stupid.
Stephen Ross want low over head, empty stadium, depreciation and revenue sharing.
Stupid Dolphins fans waste time in this blog.
Smart Dolphins owner spend time making money and fondling models and talking about return on investmets but not each investment 1 by 1 because that stupid and not get laid.

I'm not sure about Bowles, but Dabol ahd done a great job should be given a chance to interview as HC.

NOT EVEN-LOL! You're making that up out of whole cloth!

I liked Daboll alot(as an OC), but DAMN! Not THAT much.

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross very smart and very wealthy he spend 3 hours per year at team office that's it.
Stephen Ross know most valuable asset is depreciation and revenue sharing he have asian cpa handle taxes and depreciation. Asian CPA have very high esteem in community becaused he have such a rich, white client.

Philbin and Sherman have worked with guys like Holmgren, Farve and Rodgers.

I just get the feeling that the move from Hennings to Daboll is going to seem mild compared to SpOrano to Philbin.

Your 1st and foremost always welcome my friend. At the end of the day you can make a case for Favre actually statistically having seen some of his best work done under Mike Sherman. I really don't doubt that Offensively we will see alot of originality that at least initially should cross up our Division foes while they figure out the new look Dolphins and believe the Sherman hire was something Philbin did in order to help him transition to being the head man

I'm just a bit miffed by his choices at the very important assistant positions which are the guys at the end of the day that deal with players through the every day grind, this cannot be overstated. I hope he's just had his ear to the ground and plucked a group he believes ready and it wasn't the buddy network or even worse a matter of people not wanting to stake their careers on a big ?? in Miami ect... We will see and like I said your right in the comparisons with Bowles and Blue so here's to Water Walking!

Dear Mr. Phuc Yu,

You don't happen to have a little sister that answers to Phuc Me - do Yu?

Oh the fond memories I have of my little Phuc Me. Oh it just couldn't be. Never mind, forget I asked.

(Sigh)

odinseye | February 11, 2012 at 01:30 AM

I believe I have heard of little Miss Phuc Me she is a hot little Asian number, who luv long time!

And womb are these coachs?

Waterwalker

One who thinks his sh it doesn't stink and is unyielding to bend the rules. An idealist who believes he's been bestowed divine right and believes he can "walk on water", literally. One who takes it upon himself to enforce any and all rules with extreme prejudice. A hardass.

Urban Dictionary | February 11, 2012 at 01:43 AM

Can we hire this person to run the Football operations of the Miami Dolphins! No seriously while this Urban translation makes it's own interpretation of the phrase, I meant it in a different light.

Someone with unbending optimism, a person who chooses to attempt to make chicken salad out of chicken ch it in the face of any and all adversity. A true fanatic in the sense of the word who sees the silver lining in the face of the ultimate storm, you can bend interpretations in any way you see fit but believe the way in which I chose to interpret the word was rather self explanatory.

Why no QB coach?

This doesn't tell me anything. I don't know the football knowledge many of these guys have. Or their capability to teach and get the best out of the personnel. The fact many lack NFL experience doesn't necessarily mean anything. We'll have to wait and see how they handle themselves before we can make any analysis.

I'm more interested in their philosophy and strategy (and it'll be interesting to see how tight-lipped Philbin will be compared to Sparano, Mr. Say Nothing). And of course the new additions from FA and the Draft.

another year with disappointing hires. many notable coaches either arent pursued here or wont come because of our wannabe GM and clueless owner. childress, caldwell, nolan, schotty and many others opted for other teams.

greg z - Yeah.....I'm sure Childress would be interested in the assistant special teams coach.....I'm sure Caldwell would have jumped on the opportunity to be the assistant WR coach. Nolan wanted to go coach with his buddy. I'm sure Schotty's dream was to come to Miami to be the assistant strength and conditioning coach.

I seriously can't believe people are crying about this. I mean really....outside of HC, OC, and DC.....does anyone really pay attention to all of these other assistants? Not these particular assistants, but just in general....on this team or any other team. Sorry, but I can't remember the last time I heard a fan or football analyst or whatever say, "If they would have only named coach X as the assistant ball washer, I'm sure they would have made it to the Super Bowl."

This is just hilarious....people act as if every other team in the NFL has an assistant ass wiper coach with a household name. Hey, maybe if they would have offered that to Nolan......imagine the possibilities.......I can see it now, "assistant ass wiper coach Nolan single handedly set an NFL record for most ass wiping and now the Phins are on their way to the Super Bowl!"

wolfman, very sorry you missed the point.

Man....I can't believe they made David Corrao the Defensive Quality Control coach/Assistant LB coach! What were they thinking? I've never even heard of this guy! Why didn't they go all out and get Wade Philips for this job.....I've heard he's a pretty good defensive coach.

I mean David Carrao????? WTF????? Has anybody heard of this guy? Ohhhhhh wait.....now that I think about it, I have no idea who the Defensive Quality Control coach was last year, or.......ever for the Phins or any other team for that matter. It'll probably be fine.

greg z - you said "many notable coaches not pursued here or won't come here........"

Being that this particular blog is about Philbin rounding out his staff, I would assume "not pursued here" to mean Philbin didn't pursue any of these notable coaches for the very "high profile" assistant positions.

So again.....if Philbin pursued Schotty....what lucrative assistants position would Schotty be remotely interested in? Or are you just crying about the fact they hired Philbin in the first place to be HC and they are allowing him to put his own staff together. These assistants have nothing to do with Ross or Ireland......this is Philbin's staff and he has full say in who he hires for his staff.....as 99.9% of HCs do.

the dolphin franchise has long lost its lustre. we had to beg saban to come here. we settled for cam, then begged parcells and harbaugh. we lack that good, stable team ownership with a credible FO and a respected GM. we will have to settle for 2nd and 3rd tier candidates who pose no threat. prospective head coaches/coord. like billick, childress, caldwell, nolan, mangini, fisher might "rock the boat" or actually know more than our distinguished GM. this would never do.

wolfman, i'm lamenting the fact that we have to settle for 2nd tier coaching candidates in the first place. you are off on a different tangent. philbin was hired because ireland viewed him as a man who posed "no threat" to his supreme authority. guys like nolan wanted to leave one year ago when ireland/ross went behind sporanos back to pursue harbaugh.

greg z - your point @ 10:07 is exactly why I don't want Ross to sell this team anytime soon. In the last 20 years, the Phins are now on their 3rd owner.

New ownership causes lots of different stresses and things can take awhile to settle down. I've been through 2 aquisitions of companies I've worked for.....in both cases, there was about a 2-3 year "transition" period and then another 2-3 years for the culture to really adapt and become the "new culture".

Ross has only owned this team for 2 years....the Phins are still in that "transition" of ownership period, but should be on the back end of it. Now Ross will have to establish the new culture and direction. Hopefully Philbin is the right guy because if he is, we're still looking at a couple of years for everything to gel....if he's not, it sets the team back another 3-5 years.

Um... Is this even worthy of a blog? This was already reported in the MH as well as other posts so old Saturday news.

Hey Armando.. I know your reading.. How about a REAL blog reporting on how much the Dolphins SCOUTS SUCK and have sucked for a long time.

Are the Scouts a secret organization or society that you wont post it? Is THEN SCOUT Himself involved with placing a GAG order on you??? I only been suggesting this for a year now.

SCOUTS Armando, what about the scouts and I don't mean THE SCOUT Ireland, I mean those other scouts.

Not to mention......how do we know Philbin is a 2nd tiere coaching candidate? Did Steelers fans think Tomlin was a 2nd tiere coaching candidate? I mean he was nothing more than a D backs coach in Tampa with one year experience as D coordinator for the vikings in a season where the Vikings has the worst passing D in the league.

Mike McCarthy was an average at best O Coordinator for most of his career with really only one notable season, yet the Packers hired him as a HC.

My point is, I think we need to judge after the fact, not before the fact. We have no idea how Philbin is going to work out here.

These are OUR guys now folks. Time to stop complaining and being "Sad Clowns". Let's give these guys our support and patience and watch them build a champion.

There is a chart of the entire coaching staff on Phinsider. I noticed there wasn't a QB coach....only an assistant coach. Found that interesting.

What a bunch of whining f#*#ing sissys in here. I hate talking football with women, all they do is b*#ch and moan, much like the women in this blog. Friggin pathetic.

Are 21 coaches enough for 53 players? What a ratio, 2.5 players per coach!

But I think they may be lacking an assistant waterboy coach.

These are OUR guys now folks. Time to stop complaining and being "Sad Clowns". Let's give these guys our support and patience and watch them build a champion.

Lighten up Francis,

I concur. We got rid of the old and in with the new. They deserve our support just as we supported past regimes (EXCEPT Soprano's).

..You guys are getting bent out of shape about nothing..Here is a drill. Tell me who these guys are without a Google search..

Ivan Fears
Chad O Shea
Brian Ferentz
Dante Scammaccia
Moses Cabrera

Before we get our panties in a bunch because nobody has heard of these guys.. Guess what. If you were to go down the list of assistants, and position coaches..It is likely these names will be new to you. Sure you may recognize a few..For the most part...Nope. So begin..who are these guys above???

Hilarious that guys are ripping on this coaching staff and calling them '2nd and 3rd tier' already....absolutely hilarious!

Because no one has heard of any of these guys, it must mean they stink, right?

I'm sure nobody had heard of Bellichick when he started with the Giants all those years ago. Or Tomlin when he was HC in Pitt or Harbaugh in Baltimore. It all seems to have worked out fine for them.

Philbin as the HC is free to hire whoever he wants. It's his show now. He's trying to leave an impression on this franchise and perhaps build HIS own coaching tree. Will it work? Don't know.....but he sure deserves that opportunity to do as he wants. Good luck to him!....he wasn't my first choice but I support him fully!

I can see it now......the team starts 1-5 and guys will be PILING on that he's '2nd and 3rd tier' and 'none of his coaches are worth a damn'......just a hilarious fanbase!

DD,

your correct. Most don't know a hoot about all coaching staff employees. I sure wont come on here and tell a lie that I do.

Everybody was a nobody until they become somebody.

BTW.. Looking at your list I recall one is a Pats asst which is Chad O Shea. I ONLY recognize that name as it's been mentioned on Air.

...NY "G"....Ding, ding, ding....You got it. These guys are all coaches, or assistants for the Pats.. Would it change at all if we flipped the script and put the tag Dolphin coach on these guys?? Would they all of a sudden become deadbeats? Lets see how these guys coach a team before rushing to judge them.

Quick name 5 coaches on the same staff in the NFL! Thats what I thought... Let the man do his job. Hope you all dont raise your children with this mentality! GO JOE

For me, an assistant position coach not having NFL experience is no big deal, happens all the time. He's an assistant, right?

But for the actual postion coach....hey, NFL experience helps.

Didn't anybody else think it was odd no QB coach? Suggest that Philbin will be taking active part to me.

..Cocoajoe...Great point. I think that got lost in the assault, then defense of the staff at hand.. Nice observation.

This is unbelievable, you people are complaining about assistant position coach. Not position coaches that have experience, not coordinators that have experience, but assistant position coaches. Please get a life.
