ยซ Agent: Paul Soliai return not likely | Main | Peyton Manning had unreported procedure and may need another surgery ยป

Manning might not be available after all ... maybe

Throughout the ever expanding Peyton Manning saga, there's been one bothersome thought that has continued to hound my mind ... and my mind hasn't appreciated the overtime work.

ESPN reported a couple of weeks ago that Manning will be open to an incentive-laden contract in which he would be paid little or no guaranteed money up front with his new team and that he would have to earn every cent he makes strictly through performance.

That got me wondering if Manning would do that for his expected new team why wouldn't he do it for his old team -- you know, the Colts, the team for which he's played 14 seasons and is the face and heart and soul of the franchise?

Well, that's exactly what Manning might have the opportunity to do if you can believe Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay. Irsay spoke with the Indianapolis Star on Tuesday and made the point he wants Manning to return to the Colts as long as Manning restructures his contract.

"We can make it work if he wants to be here," Irsay told the Star. "We'd be excited to have him back and finish his career with us.

"I want him to be able to make the choice. We would love to have him back if he can get healthy and we can look at doing a contract that reflects the uncertainty of the ... healing process with the rengeneration of the nerve."

Suddenly, every team that fancies Manning has to feel a bit disappointed that the almost-certain divorce that seemed destined to happen by March 8th might not actually happen. Manning, as you probably have heard ad nauseum, is due a $28 million bonus on March 8 and if he's not paid that amount, he becomes a free agent.

The Colts have no intention of paying that bonus. But now they have put the ball in Manning's court, basically asking the quarterback to restructure his deal.

The proverbial ball is now in Manning's court. He can still refuse to restructure his contract and get out of Indy. But that would make him a villian in his own town. He can accept the restructure, but then he'll find himself on a team that is diminished by age and is no longer considered a Super Bowl contender -- even with Manning.

So that certain chase of Peyton Manning that everyone in Miami, Washington, and other NFL outposts that value the veteran may not happen. Assuming the worst for the Dolphins -- because that's what I've learned to do after the past decade of team history -- where does it leave them if their priority QB addition is no longer available?

It is funny to me that suddenly the talk of Manning's uncertain health situation has taken a back seat to where Manning is actually headed. Manning has undergone three neck surgeries in the past 20 months. He is waiting for the latest surgery to help nerves connecting to his triceps, which has suffered atrophy and was often numb as a result of the deadened nerves that the surgery was supposed to regenerate.

In rehabilitating from his cervical surgery, Manning has talked often to former FSU quarterback Chris Weinke who had a similar surgery in 1998 and sat out the end of the season before returning in 1999 to lead the Seminoles to the national title.

Weinke will be on Armando and Perk this morning at 8:30ish. You can watch the show here during the interview or anytime between 6-10 a.m.

Peyton is throwing just fine.

minor neck surgery has not hampered the KINGS throwing arm one bit

stop crying like a lil bietch fan

Peyton is simply recovering from minor neck surgery and will be worth a billion dollars in 3 months, never mind 7 months at the start of the season

Best Free Agent Miami EVER signed

Miami wins the AFC EAST and then the Super Bowl w QB Peyton Manning & WR Brandon Marshall

I'm the BEST FA Miami ever signed you intelectual midget!

Ypgi also said " The team that scores the most wins most of the times" Yogi was great...

CUBEN YOU NOT PIOST FROM MUNTHS NOW IN DYING BIRDS BASEMENT.

NOW YOU COME POST SAME OLD STUFF.

THINK OREGINAL THOUGHT FOR OUNCES.

(BUFFET OF SAME OLD CRAP)

Ah, My Lil Glue sniffing friend Aloco, I see by the Stock market your keeping "Estes Glue" in the top market for glue.... You go boy..

CUBEN, IS IT TRUE THAT APPLE PRINCESS THROW YOU OUT, AND NOW YOUNLIVE IN DYING BREEDS BASEMENT WITH 37 CATS?, WHAT SAY YOU?

Only one problem with Armando's theory on Manning staying put in Indy.

Think about it from Manning's perspective. Put yourself in his mindset.

The Polians are gone, Tom Clark(his OC ?)is gone, the Coaching Staff is gone.

Now Irsay wants to offer him a similar deal that any others would gladly pony up.

Forget the fact that Indy is in total disarray. Manning gave his blood, sweat and tears to Irsay. He gave him his beat years and now his health too!

Manning will look at Irsay's drunken, babbling offer as a slap in the face.

I would. Wouldn't you?

The Miami Dolphins are cursed, in a year where they got the number 1 draft picks there were no sure fire #1 Qb. 2008 f in sucked

Lol at Lil Alco..... Odin Agree 100% He's gonna tell them to suck this and move over to the Cards and win a title with them IMHO..

Odin, My thoughts are this guy(Irsay) is on Zanex, But then again like I said before WTF do I know, Your Thoughts????

Like the ring:
Marshall, Manning, Moss

instant NFL relevance

In your case, instant blog irrelevance! Be gone clown!

Peition, Are you in co-hots with Coalition?

Clue, even if there was, do you REALLY think this organization would have pulled that trigger? Rule of thumb is Miami will make the wrong choice 99 times out of 100. That other time they make the wrong choice, but another move makes their wrong choice more palatable.

DC, Watch out or you'll become a member of Lil Alocos gang of defeat.

Dearest obnoxious troll, i believe our cerebral, conspiracy theorist blogger and astute number one fan HOME has gone outside in the Florida sunshine for the remainder of the day. Perhaps you can spam him tomorrow. You have to admit though, Marshall, Manning & Moss sounds like the ultimate available three players for the Miami offense. Fact is the Dolphins could have all three signed up by next month.

THOSE OF YOU WHO HATE HENNE HAVE YOUR RIGHTS BUT YOU ARE ALL WRONG.

FIRST AND FOREMOST. FLYNN PLAYED ALL OF 2 GAMES. STOP ACTING AS IF HE'S THE $HIT.

MANNING IS HURT. THE GEEK IN THE CUBICAL CAN THROW FOR AS MANY YARDS.

HENNE BY FAR IS THE BEST OPTION.

BETTER NAME? MANNING.

MOST MYSTERY? FLYNN.

HENNE WAS CONSISTANTLY INCONSISTANT BUT EVERY YOUNG QB IS.

IS HE GREAT? H E L L TO THE NO(IN MEMORY OF WHITNEY HOUSTON)

BUT THE TALENT IS THERE.

HE NEEDS MORE TALENT AROUND HIM.

HE'S NOT A BRADY OR A PAYTON.

EVERY OTHER PLAYOFF QB HAS TONS OF TALENT AROUND THEM.

IT WOULD BE DIFFERENT IF HE HAD A VICTOR CRUZ WHO CAN CATCH A 3 YARD PASS AND TURN IT INTO A 99 YARD TD.

BESS IS NOT EVER GOING TO DO THAT.

PLAIN AND SIMPLE WE NEED WEAPONS.

EVERYBODY SAYS IT'S A PASSING LEAGUE RIGHT?

WHO ON OUR TEAM SCARES TEAMS?

WHERE DO YOU RANK THE DOLPHINS WEAPONS IN THE LEAGUE?

MARSHALL,BUSH,HARTLINE,BESS,FASANO

LOL.

PLEASE PEOPLE ANSWER THIS ONE.

SOUNDS GOOD HOME.

MARSHALL, MANNING, MOSS AND BESS.

SUPER BOWL HERE WE COME!

is the cuban out of jail ?

Taking Philbin's offensive philosophy in mind, the 2 positions that urgently need addressing are the OL and WR. They would probably use some zone blocking, so you need very aware offensive linemen. WR's will make their cuts quickly so they need to get off the line fast and get to the ball in a hurry.

Captain Obvious,

From earlier today.....

I think it's YOU who can't read. I've brought up the fact that Daniel Thomas was injured from the get go. Wasn't healthy in camp, was struggling with hamstrings injuries all season. All you want to talk about is yards per carry....big hairy deal.....the guy wasn't healthy....got it?

The one guy you keep bringing up is Mark Ingram. Why?....I have no idea? Are you suggesting they should have picked him in the first round? Why is even part of this conversation? The guy was hampered by injuries most of the season two.

The one that is clear Captain Obvious, is that you're one of those guys who comes on here AFTER the season and looks at the stats and THEN says 'why did we pick this guy when somebody has better YPC?'. That much is OBVIOUS.

Home you can post all you want but at the end of the day your shyt still stinks.

There's a bunch of potentially elite OT's and G's in the Draft and that might allow us to concentrate on a receiver, or on a QB that Ireland feels is a "can't miss" with our 1st pick.

Home please converse with Cretin JustSomeBull at the SS.
A relationship is sure to blossom.

HOME, I LIKE THE IDEA OF MANNING & MOSS.
IT IS NOW OR NEVER.
YOU ARE RIGHT A NFL TEAM LOSES PLAYERS EVERY YEAR TO TRADE,FREE AGENCY,INJURY,RETIREMENT,ETC.
BEST THING TO DO IS WIN NOW,IF WE WAIT A FEW YEARS TO TAKE A CHANCE DEVELOPING A VERY EXPENSIVE ROOKIE OR UNPROVEN QUARTERBACK THEN WE RISK FAILURE LIKE SINCE MARINO IN 1997. ALMOST 20 YEARS AGO.
MIAMI EITHER DOES NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS OR GETS EMBARRASSED IN THE FIRST PLAYOFF GAME.
PEYTON MANNING COULD TAKE OVER FROM GAME 1 IN MID SEPTEMBER AND MAKE US AN INSTANT CONTENDER FOR 3 YEARS.
MANNING TO MARSHALL & MOSS WOULD BE LIKE A PRO BOWL.
MARSHALL GOT 4 TDS IN THIS YEARS PRO BOWL.
MOSS HAS STILL GOT TREMENDOUS SPEED.
MANNING THREW FOR ALMOST 5000 YARDS AND 33 TDS IN 2010 AND HAS BEEN RESTING SINCE.
WHY IS ARMANDO SUCH AN IDIOT?
HOME ANY CHANCE YOU MEETING UP WITH JEFF IRELAND?
I KNOW YOU HOME. YOU COULD GET THIS TEAM GOING AND TAKE US TO THE PROMISED LAND.

all kidding aside,i love your ideas HOMEY. look forward every year to your insights and camp pictures on our team.

Please enlighten us with your knowledge of nerve regeneration.

I can't really fault the Phins for the Jake Long pick, it's not like he's been a bust....but if it were me making that decision I still would have rolled the dice with Matt Ryan.

There's rarely a sure thing when drafting QBs....as highly touted as Luck is, and as close to a sure thing as he seems, he's still not a sure thing. There's really no such thing when you're talking QB. It's almost always a crap shoot. QB prospects like Andrew Luck really only come around once a decade or so.

At some point, they just have to take a risk and draft a QB with a lot of NFL potential in the 1st round....whether that QB falls to them or they have to move around to get him....they just need to get 'er done.

Stop it Armando, Peyton Manning is done period as an NFL Quaterback and most NFL insiders know it. You guys in the media are just filling space for your own purposes.

Has everyone forgotten how horrible Moss looked in 2010? Has everyone forgotten that he was so awesome, he ended up playing for 3 different teams....two of which had future HOF QBs?

As Chris Carter pointed out yesterday...."he's got more quit in him than anyone I know." As soon as something bad happens, he'll lay down and roll over like he always does.

IS THE CUBAN MENACE OUT OF JAIL ?

You gotta lkove Lil Aloco.

I'm pretty sure there will be 4, maybe 5 QB's selected in the 1st RD of the NFL Draft.

What chemtrails are depositing on us are anabolic steroids. Men will have bigger diks and Women, a massive bush.

IRSAY is a DRUNK owner who needs to be checked into rehab. He is an embarrassment to the Colt fans and Patten Manning.

That Drunk went and said that the talks were to remain between Patten and him in house or which Manning agreed and has since the Superbowl pre game show, not said a word. Manning kept his word and Drunken Irsay broke his own request.

Believe me people, especially you Armando, the Colt fans will NEVER look at Patten Manning as the villain. They fully know that what irsay is doing is despicable.

Drunk Irsay is all over tweeting and showing the world how much of a mess he really is.

On a sad note, nobody inside the colt organization or even his own internal ring of friends has the balls to tell the millionaire owner that he needs help.

Manning and the incentive talk is all just that... gossip. He knows Luck will be the starter in Indy do what is the incentive? Does ANYONE believe that irsay or the new GM or HC is going to take Manning over Luck at this rebuilding juncture? i don't so it's what it is and patten manning will NOT be a Colt and the divorce as I been saying for over three months now is going to be even more ugly.

Tina Fay or Tina Turner?

NY, DO YOU HINK ODIN IS ACTUALLY IRSAY?

IT'S SAD.

Okay pulling a 180 here after the new info. I now am on board with Mando, the Phins should stay far away from Manning. New reports say he had a 4th surgery that went unreported and that a 5th surgery to remove bone spurs is likely.

That's enough for me, I'm out. Sign Flynn and draft a prospect like Weeden. I would be perfectly happy going into next season with Flynn,Moore, and Weeden at the qb position as that would be by far the best stable we've had in quite some time.

Ross needs to get off of this Manning fantasy. You hear that Mr. Ross? You will sell as many tickets if not more with Flynn, Moore, and a drafted player as you would with Manning. We wantto win, don't care who is at QB as long as they can play and win. Henne can't winand Manning probably can't play. Get the win now BS out of your head and continue the build, you're close but will blow it if you pull a Steve Emtman on us. Don't make the same mistakes that forced Shula out, stay the course, get us young Qbs.

good the manning talk will die down now, now lets get our qb for years to come! told mando months ago soliai was gone, old news

PLEASE GET HELP.

Your help awaits you at the SS.

THIS WHOLE THING ABOUT THE DOLPHIN'S QUARTERBACK CHOICES (OR THE LACK THEREOF) HAS BECOME A CLUSTER FU CK OF MAJOR PROPORTIONS.

I hope that Peyton either stays a Colt (unlikely), or retires, or goes to some other SUCKER. If we get him, he's going to be on the sidelines more than on the feild. But then like DC said, we will do the wrong thing 99 times out of 100. So I guess we will get Peyton. I sincerely hope Ross wakes up and realizes Peyton is done, and seriously looks at other options, whether it be Flynn, trade up for RG3, or keep Moore and draft Wheedon, Tannehill, or another QB. I could be dead wrong about Peyton, but I can't get behind giving up all the cap money for one risky superstar, and forego alot of really good FAs that could fill some glaring holes. In my opinion, this is not the time to be desperate or hurried, we need to be patient, I feel the win now idea as much as anyone, I remember the glorious 70s and 80s, but I for one want to do this right so we can be relevant for more than just a couple yrs.

But then like DC said,

IN GENRAL THE FOOTBALL FANS ARE THE MOST UNEDUCATED PEOPLE IN THE US .PLUS LIVING IN FLORIDA WHICH DOESN'T HELP ,PLUS NO GOOD JOBS=IDIOTS .

Phins78,

I'm fine with all that thinking but if you sign Flynn to a large contract doesn't he automatically become the starter? I'm not sure I'm Ok with that, especially a guy who's started three games. Kolb signed that big contract and was then handed the starting job and it worked out terribly. I'm not what the answer is but I see some flaws in that plan.

CRAIG M.....WHAT KIND OF EDUCATION DO YOU HAVE ? I THINK YOU FINISHED COLLAGE ...

Judging by the useage of language, structure and content, this moron flunked out of the Florida School system.

I could be wrong, it might've been the Boston/Mass. school system.
Whichever the case may be, he FLUNKED.
