One of the beautiful things about the Indianapolis Combine is it doesn't accept the hype about players.
If a player can run, you'll know it. If a guy can lift, you'll know it. If a guy's size is legit, everyone finds out.
That was important for Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III because he was listed at 6-2 and 220 pounds on the Baylor Bears program and, well, no one believed it. I heard and read, even on this forum, posters and readers saying the Baylor program's promo of RG3 translated to him being perhaps 6-foot and 200 pounds.
Wrong!
Griffin was measured today. His official height is 6-2 3/8. That's legt.
He weighed in at 223 pounds. Also legit.
And if you've ever seen the kid, he has potential to easily gain another seven pounds or so.
So aside from being able to throw at prolific levels, being accurate, and running like the wind, he has legitimate NFL QB size. Oh, and if you don't believe he can run like the wind, wait until Sunday.
I predict he'll run in the 4.4s.

yeah and by the way, marc is right too..as I said all year, long's not even that good, period, apples to apples compared to other LTs.
he's soft and gets pancaked flat on his back half the time, seriously.
he's been the biggest bust in the history of football, any draft pick, any position

Rarely do the top tier QB prospects throw at the combine. They wait for their Pro Day where it is much more controlled friendly environment. It's not just an RG3 thing bro

What sucks about Weedon is the fact that when most nfl qb's are entering thier prime 6th-8th season. Weedon will just about be entering into retirement.
Its' not Weedon's age so much as it's "nfl experience". Weedon will be at the "backend" of his nfl "biological clock" at the same time he'll be entering his "nfl prime". Because of this its "highly unlikely" he maximixes his overall nfl qb like say a qb coming into the league 4-5yrs younger.
This alone forces Weedon to become a legit sb calibre qb by year 3. Which is highly unlikely unless he goes to a nfl team no less than a year over all from being sb ready.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | February 24, 2012 at 01:56 PM
Skyles, yes, Ryan *is* an elite QB and easily qualifies for that status and it's not even remotely difficult to reach that conclusion.
If you are able to read, please read, very slowly, the very good post by fin4life that gave a chronological history of the Falcons and Fins since 2007.
Or just enroll in 3rd grade. You need it.
Posted by: Tim Couch | February 24, 2012 at 01:57 PM
Heck, during the post Marino era, we've found that without a top flight qb a franchise doesnt have much of a future anyway.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | February 24, 2012 at 01:46 PM
The problem is Holmgren knows this too. He understands the importance of a Franchise Quarterback.
Besides having more draft picks to offer, the Rams would get Clevelands no. 3 pick instead of our no. 8.
There's just no way around the fact that Holmgren is in a much better position to make a play on Luck or Griffen than we are.

Who was that QB that set NFL passing records and went to a SB his rookie year...???
Posted by: thavafin | February 24, 2012 at 02:00 PM
No doubt Matt Ryan is elite. Look at what he's done for the Falcons that were as hapless as our Fins. He's still very young and could easily become the top QB in the game in 2-3 years.

It is not that hard to figure out how Miami could get RG3;
Cleveland could get Flynn.
Redskins could get Manning.
or
Cleveland maybe does not want to give up its first two round this year to trade up and they might think RG3 drops to them.
Then it is down to Miami and the Redskins.
That is not a long shot, that gives us a chance.
All you clowns that say it is impossible, will be jumping up and down once we trade up!

Posted by: ozkar | February 24, 2012 at 02:06 PM
Cleveland will not draft rg3. They will be players in the manning swwepstakes and holmgren also likes seneca wallace and would be happy with him as their qb.

IMO, a qb isnt "an elite qb" until he cracks the ranks of being one of the 5 best in the entire league. Matt Ryan may be 1 of the 5 best qb's in the nfc, buit he is clearly not one of the 5 best qb's in the nfl.
Matt Ryan can qualify as a "franchise-type" qb. But clearly he isnt one of the 5 best in all of football. When Eli Manning made the statement he is an elite qb. He was making a declaring he's one of the 5 best qb's in all of football.
After winning his 2nd sb ring this year, Eli added plenty of ammunition to qualify his Elite qb decalaration. Its tough to argue multiple championship rings, but fool will still folly.

Montana didnt win a sb as a rookie. Steve Young was drafted by the awful Bucs back then. He may have gotten sb tickets, that's about it.
Brady went to a sb ready team like I talked about. Pats were just coming off a sb loss. Anyways. none of these qb's were Weedon's age. That's what my post was about. HUH????????????????????????????????

YG, then how do you explain Big Ben (didn't he go to a SB year 1)? I think you're talking generalities, but it doesn't mean that's how everyone will fare. Plus, if the guy gets you to 1 SB (in his 7-10 year career), he'll tie Dan Marino on this team for appearances.
I'm just saying if they get a guy with a short shelf life (like Manning), might be good to get someone like Weeden to groom for 2 years and then he should be set to do an Aaron Rodgers.

Considering who his opponents were, in the playoffs and especially the SB's, Eli beat all of the best for both rings. Hard to argue against him.

NE got to the Super Bowl yes in part because they are a very good franchise BUT their strength of schedule was WEAK SAUCE and they had to beat Denver and then BARELY beat Baltimore and probably should not have.
The Giants couldnt beat the Redskins during the regualr season but went on their Leap Year run at playoff time.
NE= EAD
NYG= EAD

DC Dolphan,
Apparently you guys havent read my post thoroughly I stated "UNLESS GOING TO A SB READY TEAM". Also what you guys arent comprehending is that even when a team is "SB READY" there's still a very small window nfor winning.
Its extremely difficult to win one sb, let alone to take advantage of multiple opportunities. See Dan Marino, easily the grestest qb to never win a sb. So you guys wanna hang your nuts on Weedon who isnt even worthy to carry Marino's jock strap. Geesh! LOL

I don't know what to think of it. I'm sure Holmgren has all kinds of back channels into the Packers for inside info. It's an intersting observation.
I personally believe that Holmgren will sit back and do whatever it takes to get Luck or Griffen.

Peyton fans,
Check out the video on the front page of ESPN. Good break down why Miami would be the most likely spot for him.
Posted by: Skyles | February 24, 2012 at 02:33 PM
DC,
7-10yr shelf life for Weedon? Are you kidding me?
Yeah, the possibility exists. But the shelf life for a 22-23yr old rookie qb is about 7-10yrs. Weedon begins his 1st nfl season at 29yrs old. By his 7th season, which is prime for a qb coming into the league at 22-23, Weedon will be 35. That's when even the greats enter into decline.
Weedon only has a 7yr career max if he's lucky.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | February 24, 2012 at 02:37 PM
Im not saying Weedon cant be a great starting nfl qb. Just saying the expiration date comes a lot sooner.

No. Coalition To Ban Odin. You Appear very determined to do so. I just want to know reasons.I'm noisy like that.I've read some of his posts before.Actually been insulting to him at times but his posts can make sense. What's deal?
Posted by: ozkar | February 24, 2012 at 02:47 PM
I see Weedon as a perfect fit for a team with most pieces already in place. Only a year or two from being a legit sb contender. Still, because of age he's still a huge gamble to take 1st rd. Most teams that are legit sb contenders have legit qb's and those that arent are more than a qb and a year or two away. So this places Weedon in a sort of "no man's land" as where to draft him.
If, and that's a big if, Weedon's available at our 3rd draft slot. Then it's a no-brainer to pull the trigger. At that point value is balanced with need.
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | February 24, 2012 at 02:49 PM
3rd rd
Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | February 24, 2012 at 02:51 PM
Here's how I would expect the trade up bidding to go down:
Fins - offer #8, + next year's firster (assume mid round 15-20ish), plus a good player. Ireland nervous to go this far, won't concede any farther.
Wash - offer #6, + next year's firster (assume mid round like us), plus a good player. Might be willing to offer one more thing if pushed, Snyder demands a big draw player at Qb.
Cleveland - offer #4, and #22 this year. Might stand pat with that, but if pushed, have room to offer more.
OK, here's the question. If you're Rams, reportedly looking for more picks, who do you deal with? It's not what WE want, it's what THEY want.
Posted by: JS_in_LA | February 24, 2012 at 02:51 PM
There is no point to picking Weeden unless you are 100 percent certain you will start him from day 1.
Posted by: Skyles | February 24, 2012 at 02:51 PM
Mando, Your starting to sound like Mel Kiper who is an absolute size queen. Who cares if RG is 6'2 or 3. We need a guy who is 7ft and can throw the ball out of the stadium. Oh and let's not forget the all important comment" He'd look good in a Dolphins uniform".
