Dolphins do their homework at cornerback

What about a cornerback for the Dolphins? It sounds strange because Vontae Davis and Sean Smith are young and under contract for 2012, But the Dolphins are clearly thinking about their possibilities at the position because the club needs nickel cornerback help.

During their time at the Indianapolis combine, the Dolphins interviewed both Janoris Jenkins and Dre Kirkpatrick -- two outstanding talents with obvious red flags -- as possible cornerback additions. (No, not at No. 8 I would think.)

Kirkpatrick, an outstanding talent from the University of Alabama, was recently a charged with marijuana possession. And although the charge was dropped a couple of weeks later, the Dolphins no doubt asked the corner about the incident during their 15-minute meeting.

What might Kirkpatrick have answered?

"It was just me being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and the guy that left the marijuana in the car turns himself in," Kirkpatrick said of the incident in which a friend eventually admitted the drug was his.

"He didn't want to put me in that bad situation. He signed an affidavit saying that I was unaware of the marijuana being in the car and the charges have been dropped."

Kirkpatrick talked to San Diego, Detroit, Tampa Bay, Oakland and the Dolphins while in Indianapolis. I can understand why. He's a fine player.

He talked about how he gave up a touchdown against the Florida Gators this past season. He said it was his first touchdown scored.

For the year, someone asked.

"Ever," he responded.

Jenkins is similarly talented although his history probably raises more flags and eyebrows and anything else that is raised in questionable situations.

Jenkins originally went to Florida but was forced to finish his college career at North Alabama after a serious run of trouble. He flunked a drug test, was arrested twice for marijuana possession, and again a third time for his involvement in a bar fight.

Oh, and he's got four children by three different mothers -- a budding Antonio Cromartie, if you ask me.

"I made a few mistakes and I learned from them,” he said. “Everything I did, I did. I’m admitting it. I did it. I’m looking to put that in my past and move forward.”

Jenkins was forced to finish his college career at North Alabama after a run of trouble. He flunked a drug test, was arrested twice for marijuana possession and a third time for his involvement in a bar fight. He’s also 23, and already fathered four children by three different mothers.

"I'm pretty sure it will hurt me," Jenkins said. "but I'm looking past that, looking forward to moving on and just being successful from here on out."

The way Ireland drafts we'd be better off trading our picks for established players.

My own personal feeling on QB's throwing at the combine: It should be MANDATORY!

Of course, unless you have a Doctors excuse.

I know they do it at their Pro Days, familiar place, familiar people, blah, blah.......blah.

Still, making them all throw at the combine, using the same/similar groups of people would be an equalizer of sorts. I think it would be a plus in the evaluation process as well.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, it would make the Combine more enjoyable for ME! Your average, ordinary Hardcore Football Fan!

Ross should hire Mayock or Kiper to do our draft.

It's still Dre Day, n*gg**. Chronic 2012 fo' evah n*gg**.

All i'm gonna say is...NEVER use "he won a Heisman" to quantify your argument again....

Now Kris wants to decide what arguments bloggers can or can not make. Sheesh!

what you witnessed was an A and B conversation betwen 2 Poster's who aren't afraid to use their OWN SCREEN NAME....wether they disagree or not....

Why don't you C your way out.....your on the verge of evlating yourself from Trolls status...to creepy stalker guy....

don't be creepy stalker guy....

Did Kris just "ABC" a Troll?

I tink he DEED!

Man most of you regulars are consistently wrong on every single topic. Didn't get a chance to get to a computer yesterday.

on the RANDY MOSS topic.

Yes of course we want him. You don't know if he's slow. Just like with stocks, you idiots make all your decisions based on what happened 2 years ago. And with real estate. You're always 2 years behind.

Learn to *read between the lines." Moss took a year off, freshened up his legs, and is now fired up to prove everyone wrong.

I predict he will be a solid addition to whatever team grabs him this year as a #2 -- 55 catchs for 650 or something like that.

And he'll have some kind of difference making play in the playoffs.

Duh. He was rejected by teams 1.5 years ago. Not now.
Now he's going to kick some tail one more time.

Please try to *read between the lines* when you read things.

Same with political news. Home is right about all of that stuff too.

No, this is NOT Home, I swear.

In short, if Moss will play for no guaranteed money, OF COURSE WE BRING HIM HIM and take a look at him.

Bush, Marshall, Moss, Moore, Clay, Thomas -- we might be good this year.

Parity, even the 13-3 teams win about 5 games every year by less than 6 points.

Every year, even last year, we are a few lucky bounces between 6-10 and 11-5. We outscored our opponents LAST YEAR for krist's sake.

My reasons for not trading up for RG3 are just two.The first one has to do with his throwing abilities. Will he be like a Vick while in Atlanta? Electric and gladiatoresque in running yet unable to find the open man in critical downs ala Our chump chad henne.Secondly, what is his ultimate goal.Is he looking for iconic status similar to lebron james? Will he lack a killer stint like the so-called king?
The price is too high for a risk on an athelete that IMO will only amaze Us with his lightning speed evasiveness. While like Vick caring for his off the field matters more than his on the field performance.

What is the link to?

Is it a secure sight?

Let Randy Moss go to the Jests.

After Luck and RG3 its laughable to even mention any of the other QB's in the draft. Tannehill has 20 career starts as QB? Is that right he's no where near ready to be an NFL QB, Im not even mentioning the other QB. Once Barkley and Jones decided to stay we were focked

When you consider the stakes involved with top QB prospects, all kinds of things come to mind.

Like scripted Pro Days rehearsed more than a Russian Ballet.

Forget about it. I say get them out there at the combine and throw everything at except the kitchen sink.

Yeah, the interviews are nice and the Pro Days are purty. YUCK!

Make it Mandatory for these future Millionaires to throw at the Combine!

Dear Mr. ?

Highly Technical

Chemtrails real or fake

Alot of very smart people post there...which I am not.

So I asked the question...Chemtrails real or not

Got alot of different answers from scientists, chemists and so on and so fourth.

Soiled :)

Stephen Ross, save the Dolphins, SELL THE TEAM!

Answer to your question is Aaron Rodgers. He was an athletic QB, who was the most mobile QB in the NFL not named Michael Vick. But also had a gun and was accurate. Those match RG3's skill sets perfectly. If you heard him at the Combine, he said he looks to throw first as a QB. He only uses his legs when he has to (like Rodgers did his first few years in GB). Rodgers won a SB.

There's also a guy you might have heard of named Steve Young. Very mobile QB. Won a SB. It's happened before.

Klndry, Aaron Rodgers and Steve young come to mind right off as qbs with griffins skill see that have won super bowls ..

Yeah the jests! Could We not start the Chemtrails talk today please? It frightens me.I might have to go away for the rest of the day.

Mark, great minds think alike!!!

Highly Technical stuff?

Smart People?

Differing opinions?

(I can feel the ADHD kicking in already)

..I guess it doesn't matter what the new posts read. We are going to debate quarerback until draft day.

Cornerback..Most of you know who I am going to endorse. My man Tru. I would say that his measurables stack up against the top corners in the draft. He is one of the top corners so most others are being compared to him. He will get plenty of coverage tommorow during the combine, as he is the hot commodity at the corner position. Think about this. His arm length is more than 3 inches longer then Kirkpatrick, he is faster, he is bigger. I know he played at Montana so it automatically raises a question mark because of the level of competition. This is fair. I am lucky enough to have seen this kid play every freekin game he played at Montana. Even the seaon he played with a broken hand(soph)

I agree....

What is the point of a QB going to the combine...if he isn't gonna throw.....you might as well just skip it all together...

History tells us that the fastest QB rarely becomes the best QB...if ever....same goes for the QB that jumps the highest....or the longest for that matter....

Perhaps Cam Newton will change that...his numbers this past year were Phenomenal...and he may be the first QB to actually blend the 2 skills to a championship....

Me....I just want to see spirals with arc and zip....thrown to recievers out of the break...or even before the break....I want to see recievers being hit in stride....wether they drop the rock or not.....

I just want to see a QB DO what QBs get paid to DO....

apperantly that ruffles some peopls feathers.....

Dear Mr. Ozkar

Sorry If my last post caused you any physical or mental harm...it was not my intention.

My post was aimed at Mr. Home but Mr. ? asked about the site...so I do apologize.

What happens to QB Pat Delvin on the practice squad...Sports question

Soiled :)

Montana, isnt our 3rd string Lex Hillard from Montana. No more acorns from small school. They WR's he faced were not legit Darryl.

Davis has potential but plays well intermittently. Smith has never really panned out. YB is getting old and we need another safety

Hey just a thought, not sure this has been asked. Why can't we Franchise Soliai and then trade him like the Pats did with Cassel, and Green Bay probably will do with Flynn? At least we'd be getting something in return.....thoughts?

Who cares about a corner, how about focussing on being able to draft rg3. Thats what douscher ireland needs to be concerned about!

Clue..It is unlikely that Johnson comes to Miami. I'm just banging his drum. He isn't a nickel corner, he is a boundary guy, a cover 2 corner. We aren't going to use our second round pick on a corner. I know this. Clue I mean no disrepect here. But you have no clue about this guy. He isn't an acorn. He is a legit top 5 corner in this draft. He scored 83 yesterday which puts him at the bottom of the first round top of the second(85) is top 15..You can doubt him because of the level of play. This is fine, and totaly reasonable. But before calling him an acorn becuase you know nothing about him is ridiculous.

I'm sorry guys....

But i am not comparing a QB who has NEVER thrown a pass in the NFL to a 30 2 SB winning QBs....One whom is in the HOF...and the other is well on his way....

I don't even know how you guys justify the leap....

Luck = Peyton Manning...

RG3 = Steve Young/Aaron Rodgers....

Are you guys reading what you are writing....

until NOV.....you didn't know RG3 from R2D2....and know he is regularly compared to rodgers and young....ok...

to...not 30...

NO RG3.Too pricey for a too suspect qb.We want quaterback NOT a rb that throws the ball really far and charmes the pants off the fan with his Vick like speed and evasiveness.

Ok Darryl I agree Ive never seen the guy play before but playing in Montana I guarantee you he hasn't played against an NFL caliber WR.

Dear Fans,
I know you are very concerned about our QB situation. I want you to know that I am right on top of the situation! Well we at the Miami Dolphin have decided that the solution to our problems and we will aggressively try to sign Payton Manning! I don't know if the guy can play anymore. But Mr. Ross wants him and is willing to spend the money. See, season ticket sales have been pretty underwhelming. We need to fill the stadium in order to continue our NFL sellout streak and make sure the games are on for our fans in South Florida. Mr. Ross is getting tired of buying our own tickets (who can blame him) and so are our business partners. Therefore, we figure if we sign Payton Manning now, we can definitely increase season ticket sales now. In fact, we predict we will have a good change of selling out most of the games before we will even know if Payton will play this year. That by itself will pay for the ridiculous amount of money it is going to take to sign Payton. We also figure we will sell a ton of Payton Manning jerseys. Think of all of the money we will make! So we will definitely try and get Payton Manning. If for some reason he can't play, we still have Matt Moore! Plus Payton won't cost us any draft picks!!

Wow, cant get how some dolfans say, "Well, how did RG3 look throwing at the combine"?

Hey geniuses, didnt you see how RG3 look throwing during the entire 2011 collegiate season? No one's asking how Luck looked throwing at the combine and RG3 had as great a season as Luck. Same amount of national champions as Lucks last season too. ZERO!

Hopefully this is the year Ireland finally shows big balls as gm and offers up whatever it takes to land his alma matter bretheran RG3. If not, just totally forgety about Ireland ever doing anything the even remotely rises above "playiong it safe" while Dolphins gm.

This is why as dolfans we all need pray Ireland at least makes a legit play to land RG3 whether we get him or not. Or franchise future depends on seeing this from Ireland. We all know what "playiong it safe" has netted us for more than a decade now. The last sb trophy entered into the Dolphin trophy case still reads,"1973-74". Now you be the genius.

Kris, reading is fundamental bro. A poster asked if there was ever a QB with RG3's skill set who won the SB (go back and check it out, his name was kIndry). Both Mark and I threw Rodgers and Young (independently of each other). Probably because both were mobile QBs who could pass. That's what most reports about RG3 say (can pass, but mobile).

Clue..I will leave it at this. I'm not disputing the level of talent between FCS, and the FBS. But chew on this. Jimmy Wilson who also came from Montana. could not even crack the starting lineup at corner for Montana...Jimmy Wilson who was drafted by the Phins was third on the depth chart, and had to play saftey 2 years ago..I know Wilson was 7th round "Acorn" as you like to call these guys. This should speak just a little about the talent level at the top FCS programs. There is a reason scouts are flodding these games. If a player can play.It doesn't matter if they come from the moon.

Whats up Odin? I think qbs should throw at the combine just to see how they react to adversity and throwing under mental pressure of being watched by potential employers. Wasnt montana mobile? How many rings did he collect again? How about elway? He could still run when he got his rings.

I have already EXPLAINED myself MORE than adequately....

since you start of your post with the sarcastic "geniuses" remark....I gather that you are more interested in a contest of insults...rather than true debate....

I respectfully decline.....

However...you are entitled to your opinion...so feel free to express it further....

good point Darryl

Kris, read the post, we are just comparing the skill sets. Its done with every top prospect.

Simply saying he's a pass first qb with escapability and once escaping can inflict major damage. Like Rodgers or young. There is nothing to get your panties in a bunch here.

I think griffin will be different than Rodgers or young. I think he's more young than Rodgers though.

But what if I say this, never in the history of the NFL have we seen a qb with the very good pocket presence that rg3 has but with his level of athleticism. I think he projects off the charts personally. And you want to couple his maturity and elite intellect in there too? This guy could be the ultimate. There's nothing not to like... but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

YG..Both qb's declined to throw. Also what is exceptable in your mind as far as what Ireland should do to trade up for Griffen? It is very likely we will not be able to come close to what Cleveland will be able to offer. Sure there may be some scenarios that I have not thought of that could land us Griffen(at that point why not just go for Luck?) You have said Ireland needs to show some mettle..What would you like to see that is reasonable?

If Ireland doesnt at least make a serious attempt to land RG3 forget about selling out home games. I seriously doubt Indy lets Peyton walk if everythings a go that he's totally healthy enough to play. Luck or not its foolish to let Manning walk if he's still going to be Peyton Manning. If so Luck sits at least 2 seasons.

Meaning we wont get Manning. Now, if you fans who are not from Miami thing Flynn will sell out home games, keep dreaming. Especially if Ireland dont at least make a play for RG3 in this draft. Ireland not making a play for RG3 is just more of the "playing it safe" franchise mentality thyat's landed us 3 playoff appearances in 13 seasons.

Miamians are not stupid. Ross/Ireland will find out first hand(sparsely crowded home games) if they dont at least make a serious play for RG3 and Peyton isnt available.

And Kris, fyi, I knew who griffin was way before November. Not sure who pissed in your cereal this morning but you've been pretty cranky. Poor kid.

DC....my reading skills....have ZERO to do with my reasoning skills....

That is what I am calling into question here.....

You compared RG3...to Aaron Rodgers/Steve Young....

I don't see it.....I think it is an insult to both men's careers to even make the comparison...and it puts to much expectation on a probable NFL QB...who more likely than not...will never reach either of there elite status's....

Thats all i'm saying...you can attempt to down play my reading skills if you like...but this is what you said...

Answer to your question is Aaron Rodgers. He was an athletic QB, who was the most mobile QB in the NFL not named Michael Vick. But also had a gun and was accurate. Those match RG3's skill sets perfectly.

Posted by: DC Dolfan | February 27, 2012 at 11:04 AM

Don't shoot the messenger....

Kris u are insane. RG3 says he's a "throwing athlete"because silly people thinks he a "run 1st" QB . He's just a QB with an outstanding arm who runs really well when he HAS TO!

FINS....RG3 didn't say that....lol....

re-read the post....and then try again....

Kris, ok, fine, so you don't believe RG3's skill set (from college) is comparable to Steve Young's/Aaron Rodgers' skill set (from the NFL). That's your position, correct?

Terrific! Point made, like Mark said, you're entitled to your opinion.

Both Mark and I have a different opinion. And we both gave the same opinion independent of each other. So I'm not the only crazy one (if that's what you think).

Hopefully I'm not putting words in Mark's mouth, but I believe this isn't a very big stretch to make (that RG3 was a good passer in college who could also run, and that there have been QBs in the NFL who won SBs doing just that). I understand you disagree with that general statement.

Kris is borderline sterotypical person. Kris should we draft RG3 he has braids?

If Colts let Peyton walk it says to me they have "very tangible" evidence he isnt the Peyton Manning the nfl has grown to respect and fear. So buyer beware. If Peyton Manning is still Peyton Manniong I expect him to remain a Colt and Luck sits for a couple seasons.

With this said, if Colts let him walk buyer beware. If he's still Manning we aint getting him. This leaves Flynn. IMO, Flynn represents, "again playing it safe". they dont give sb trophies for playing it safe.

To answer your question about what I think we offer. We should have a Malcom X approach to going after RG3. "BY ANY MEANS NECCESARY".

This frranchise has been playing it safe for over 13 seasons not at qb and only have 2-3 playoff appearances to show for it. Wow, and some fans here wanna continue with the same old, same old, that hasnt worked yet. This is called "INSANITY".

No need to sale the furture for RG3 when weve got a good QB. Moore needs a supporting cast beginning with the OL, TE, WR who can catch the ball. Take a pass rusher with the first pick, Olmen #2, WR #3, DB #4, OL #5, OL #6, whatever #7. This draft is deep so the Dolphins need to get value with every pk. They all must start or depth. Dolphins can get a Super Mario in free agency, TE, or OLmen. IF thats the case then maybe Tannehill at #8....

Ireland is a dope!!

#1, there isnt a pass rusher worthy of taking with the #8 pick. Two, that means trading down(pass rusher). Three, that's just more of the same "playing it safe" franchise mentality thats netted nus 2-3 playoff appearances in 13yrs.

Dolfans here cry we we suck, then advocate we continues to suck with thier offseason approach to becoming a better team. Playing it safe doesnt work in Miami. Am I the only one seeing this?

Matt Moore is chump chad henne's back up.HIS BACK UP.Ineffectual henne's back up folks. A journey qb.He didn't earn the job. He was throw in.Matt Moore shouldn't even remain on the team.Cause of him We bowed out the Luck sweepstakes.Matt Moore is a back up qb folks,a back up.

Kris is borderline sterotypical person. Kris should we draft RG3 he has braids?

Please re-post anything negative I said about RG3...

Why do you guys have this George Bush syndrome...."your either with us...or your against us....mentality....

I am saying "i'm not sold"...and I simply ask...."why are you so sure"?

Just because I don't necessarily agree with you @ this time....doesn't mean we are on completly oppsite side of the fence....

Every disagreement on here doesn't have to be the HATFEILDS and the McCOYS....

My post are simple questions....that they are not attacks on RG3...or yourself for that matter....

Heck, if we're going to play it safe, why even go after a fa or draft a qb period this offseason? We can save ourself a high draft pick at qb and bunch of money in fa by just going with Matt Moore.

Hell, if the Colts let Manning walk it shows they klnow he wont be "Peyton Manning" anymore. Then sign a guy for $50 million dollars with only 2 career starts? Matt More has more promise. That is, if you wanna continue with a true "play it safe" approach.

Playing it safe isnt bringing any championships to Miami. We've been lucky to see 2-3 playoffs in 13yrs with that approach.

Dontari Poe is a beast

YG, people can and will believe what they want. I stopped trying to dispel others' of opinions I feel are faulty. I just remember my opinions, see how they play out, and use that to instruct how I think in the future.

You'll make yourself crazy disabusing someone of the belief that all you need to get to the Playoffs is a good punter. My suggestion is stop trying (too stressful).

YG...It seems like you are suggesting the nuclear response as far as do what ever it takes to get a deal for Griffen(or IMO Luck). I just don't know is we are a nuclear superpower in this scenario. We may not have the firepower to get a deal done. Even if we offered an abundance of picks, money, a case of 85 Petrus. It may not be enought to match Cleveland, or the Redskins. I'm not sure you could blame that on Ireland.

Some here dont realize how far this franchise has fallen. We're dying compare to our long ago status of prominence. We have absolutely nothing top loose by going down swinging.

We're already like braindead being kept nalive on life support. Let's swing for the fences(RG3!

Kris, you've ask several question about RG3 that have been answered a bunch of times by bloggers yet you post the same questions. This makes me think you dont like the guy because he doesn't have a certain "look" about him. Just my opinion of course.
