Yet another reason I love RG3

You know I love Robert Griffin III.

It's been that way since the midway mark of the college football season. And it's about more than just his ability to run a 4.41 time in the 40 or the fact hes already graduated, or the fact his folks were both military personnel who instilled great discipline in the kid, or the fact he completed 72 percent of his passes with 37 touchdowns and only six interceptions last season.

No, it's the total awesomeness of this young man. He's bright. He's gifted. He handles himself like a successful 40-year-old man but manages to maintain a certain enthusiasm about things.

I love all that.

And I love what I saw below. I heard he had wowed practically every team he interviewed with at the Indy combine -- the Dolphins included. Check out how he handled the coach's interview with the NFL Network via the Sportsgrid:

odin,
Are you saying you think Green Bay will franchise Flynn and try to get something for him?

I just want to know how much talent Green Bay thought Matt Flynn had if they are willing to let him walk and they go out and sign an Arena League quarterback to replace him.

If we trade a ton for Andrew Luck, ok, but not for RG.

Hell, over the past 13yrs we've barely been able to put together a decent roster when having most our draft picks, and still havent settled the qb position to boot.

So why is it so damn important to have all of our picks when they havent netted us much at all anyway?

I just dont get it with we cant afford to trade the house for Griffin. Over the last 13yrs(post Marino) neither have we built a consistent playoff roster nor settled the qb position. Earth to dolfans......duhhh...

RG would've been a 3-4th rder last year. And if Landry Jones and Matt Barkely came out he'd be a 2nd rder this year.

odin,
Are you saying you think Green Bay will franchise Flynn and try to get something for him?

Professor Lou | February 29, 2012 at 11:13 PM

110% IN WEEK 17 BUT TODAY THEY HAVE TO GIVE IT PAUSE BECAUSE IF NO ONE BITS NOW THAT COOLER HEADS HAVE PREVAILED IT'S A 2012 14.5 MILLION CAP HIT AFTER BASICALLY GIVING YOUR T.E. A 10 MILLION TENDER OF HIS OWN.

I do agree the picks are pretty useless with Ireland as a GM.

I just want to know how much talent Green Bay thought Matt Flynn had if they are willing to let him walk and they go out and sign an Arena League quarterback to replace him.

Professor Lou | February 29, 2012 at 11:15 PM

Lou,

With all do respect the Packers have always picked the A

Jay,

Do I sense a bit of racial bigotry there? Oh, lets trade the house for the "white man", but hell no for the "black man".

RG3 and Andrew Luck posted nearly the exact same numbers last season. RG3 even proved to be the superior deepball passer. Dont let your racial bigotry blind you my man.

RG3 isn't coming to MIA to high of a price tag

Agreed, Jay. The 3 picks for our backup and soon to be 3rd string RB was absurd.

I just want to know how much talent Green Bay thought Matt Flynn had if they are willing to let him walk and they go out and sign an Arena League quarterback to replace him.

Professor Lou | February 29, 2012 at 11:15 PM

Lou,

With all do respect the Packers have always picked the ARENA League for QB prospects since the Ron Wolfe ERA of which current G.M. Ted Thompson was the Head of Scouting. They found one Kurt Warner playing for the Iowa Barnstormers that way once. Your reading into nothing and suggesting he's the DEFACTO back up in March.

YG, you're off the wall idiot. It has nothing to do with race. Luck is in a class by himself you racist pig!!!

Every village has its idiot and Yesterday's Gone is ours!!!!!!!!!!

Andrew Luck is the best QB prospect in 15 years dufuss

I think we have a new record.

7 picks this year and 3 next? So basically you're saying don't give just one draft for RGIII, give a draft and a half?

Wow!

I would love to trade up for RGIII, but not at THAT price.

I watch the Professional Gamblers playing Texas Hold Em all the time. I watch the Pro's play Five Card Tournaments as well. These guys take calculated risks begining to end. It's all about Risk vs. Reward.

The thing is though, these guys don't go "All In" on extremely risky hands. There's these things called Odds and Probabilities. They know them well and constantly use them assess and reassess the situation(s). In the end though, the sucessful ones, more times than not, bet the Hand Their Playing.

The ONLY time these professionals go "All In" on a Risky Hand is when they're BLUFFING.

I want RGIII as much, if not more than ANYONE. Having said that though, I'm not willing go "ALL In" and bet the next decade on a possible Bluff Hand.

Professor Lou had the right question but it was phrased wrong. It should have been:

"If GB saw such promise in Flynn, why wasnt he signed to a new contract before the end of 2010 season?"

If they saw potential greatness they never would have let him enter into the final year of contract unsigned. He would have been resigned by the end of 2010 before entering his final 2011 season, if for nothing else, so that GB turns his compensation into a cash cow by trading him.

Jay, odin,

Obviously youre the same two fools. Regretfully I refuse decline to participate in "idiots hour" with you bumbling goons! LOL

Warner didn't play in the Arena League until after he tried out for the Packers. He went undrafted and wasn't signed by the Pack and then went to Iowa. Green Bay didn't discover him in the Arena League.
The way I look at it is when Green Bay has their starter they don't place a lot of emphasis on who their backup is because they have a solid starter like they do now with Rodgers. They aren't looking for a quarterback competition because Rodgers is their starters; no questions asked.
Therfore, Green Bay doesn't pick up a guy who is starter material. They just want a 2nd qb on the roster as a backup. That's it. Nothing more.
With that in mind I don't think I'm reading too much into it. I think I'm looking at it exactly the way it is. The Packers don't spend time developing backups. The don't waste time with them. When you have a starter like Favre or Rodgers playing for you the backup qb is one of the last players you're going to spend time on.

Now I see why there a Ban odin poster here. LOL

Im now officially on "The Coalition To Ban Odin" bandwagon. LOL

I want RGIII as much, if not more than ANYONE. Having said that though, I'm not willing go "ALL In" and bet the next decade on a possible Bluff Hand.

odinseye | February 29, 2012 at 11:30 PM

I don't think they net that bounty and believe the reports Miami is already backing off more a sign of things to come if your the Rams more than anything. I can see someone even us trading this Yrs. #1 and the next in 2013 but 10 picks is beyond Hershel Walker CRAZY and I don't believe anybody will bite here. You have us as the most vanilla of the players in this particular Texas hold em with Heavyweights like Holgrem and Shanahan sitting in on this particular hand partner with everybody bluffing!

odin,
Are you saying you think Green Bay will franchise Flynn and try to get something for him?

Posted by: Professor Lou | February 29, 2012 at 11:13 PM

Yeah, I think they will do that or one other thing. They could work a "deal"(that would border on tampering)where Flynn signs a contract in order to be traded.

I doubt the second scenario happens, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

What's your own personal opinion?

Lou,

Had to go back and look it up, I try and never do that takes the fun out of posting for me but your right. Although I will tell you many teams look at ARENA QB material given the quick passing nature of that League and I KNOW for a fact players who played there say the fast nature of that game helps develop the passer in you and definitely remember Warner saying it. I know he went to Northern Iowa and thought the ARENA team followed before G.B. but still your reading into nothing being it's all of the 1st of March.

I just want to know how much talent Green Bay thought Matt Flynn had if they are willing to let him walk and they go out and sign an Arena League quarterback to replace him.

Posted by: Professor Lou | February 29, 2012 at 11:15 PM

I'm starting to suspect you're the Fake Lou(If not, forgive me).

I don't think it has anything at all to do with how talented they think Flynn is. Put yourself in their position. You got Rodgers and Flynn. Flynn is in a contract year so you won't be able to afford both.

Who do you keep?

Rodgers or Flynn?

Seriously, it's not about how much talent they think he has. it's an either or proposition.

If you disagree, by all means, lay out your scenario in which you keep both?

fin,
I hear what you're saying. I'm not a fan of bringing Flynn to Miami so I'm just trying to add fuel to the fire. It's my way.

Lou,

RAINMAN STRIKES AGAIN!!!!

You're too much man! This place wouldn't be the same without you.

YG - Two words is why GB can let Flynn go. "Aaron Rodgers"

I have seen the same amount of M. Flynn as you guys and don't really know what he'll do given a starting QB job.

I do wish him well where ever he goes. I doubt it will be the fins.

This is how it is going to go. I just learned this tonight from a clairvoyant.

For you Manning fans, those that want him in Miami, Chrisitmas will come in mid March for you guys.

BUT, we will also get another QB to be groomed behind Manning for a few years in the draft.

The Clairvoyant says that Miami wants to grab Tannehill as the groomey but Seattle trades up ahead and grabs him at 7. So being a little dejected they decide to wait until the 3rd round and take Osweiler to learn behind Manning for a few years.

Our first pick in the draft is traded to Cincy for their 17th and their 2nd plus a 5th next year. Cincy takes Richardson.

At 17 we take Mercilus DE
At 43 we take Fleener TE
At 53 we take Massie OT
At 73 we take Osweiler
at 102 we take AJ. Jenkins - he reminds me a little of John Taylor. For those that might not remember he was Rice's running mate in SF.

The Clairvoyant has spoken. :)

Fake Lou? Quick Lou what is your website url?

"If GB saw such promise in Flynn, why wasnt he signed to a new contract before the end of 2010 season?"
If they saw potential greatness they never would have let him enter into the final year of contract unsigned.
-------------------------------------------------------

-Entering into a contract is a two way street. Both parties have to agree.
-------------------------------------------------------

He would have been resigned by the end of 2010 before entering his final 2011 season, if for nothing else, so that GB turns his compensation into a cash cow by trading him.

Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | February 29, 2012 at 11:30 PM
-------------------------------------------------------

This is exactly what the Packers Front Office was trying to do. Initially, "Feelers" were sent out to Flynn and his agent during that time. At least two contract extensions were offered as well.

Flynn/His Agent declined, apparently with an eye towards testing the market this year.

Mando mancrush with RG3! Pass the KY Jelly!

odin,
I'm not saying they should keep both Rodgers and Flynn, although YG is correct that, if Green Bay thought he was any good, they could have signed him to a contract in 2010 instead of waiting until know when his value is too high for them to consider keeping him.
It's a quarterback starved league and you have the talking heads who started with the Matt Flynn hype after his game against Detroit and then Philbin became the HC in Miami and the talking heads started with Miami being the perfect fit for Flynn because of the Philbin connection.
Then everyone followed like sheep and went nuts over Flynn because the talking heads put their spin on it. The Packers can't spend the money on Flynn that he will now be looking to get from some team that is dumb enough to give him the huge pay day he is going to be looking for.

www.professorlousnfldraftblog.wordpress.com

go there and play "you're the gm" and leave your comments. what would you do in that situasheeun.

I have a question IF we sign Manning and go that route who is the primary target at pick #8?? I know some will say I'm jumping on the Combine bandwagon but this D.Poe kid is off the charts!! Yes he could be a workout warrior but 4.98/40 at 348 Pds. benching 225/43 times, WOW!! The upside is IF motivated to play Football and I know little except what I've seen in this combine were talking Warren Sapp speed with Haloti Ngata agility, size and strength, WOW!! IN the 4/3 this speed & power would make Haynsworth on his best day as a Titan look weak!!

Jay, odin,
Obviously youre the same two fools. Regretfully I refuse decline to participate in "idiots hour" with you bumbling goons! LOL

Posted by: Yesterday's Gone | February 29, 2012 at 11:33 PM

YG, all I've been doing tonight is talking football and avoiding the Peanut Gallery. How are you going to come out of left field and start calling me names and accuse me of impostoring people?

Considering that you're one of us regulars, I find that offensive. I would expect that from a Troll. Coming from you, I take offense.

I don't know anything about Jay. Matter of fact, I don't remember seeing his name around here. I'm not accusing him of anything, but I don't know him so I don't really care.

You however are a different story. We've had our "Go Arounds" before and I always stood by statements and admitted when I was wrong(remember my stance on Eli?). On the strength of that alone, I think you owe me an apology for the above.

If not, then maybe what those guys(trolls?)are saying about you is true. I don't think it is. Man up like you always tell me to do(you know I do too)and apologize and lets get on with what's been a good night of football talk(so far-LOL).

Come on Bro, whaddya say?

..Even if Green Bay wanted to restructure Flynns contract prior to last year. He didn't have to agree to it. Green Bay could have kicked and screamed all they wanted. Flynn wan't obligated to agree to anything, except his current contract(at the time)It would have made absolutley no sense. You don't pay backups premium starter money unless you plan on losing the incumbant..The logic that Green Bay didn't sign him tells us all what they truely think about him is just flawed..

Also..I have been trying to find a link to watch the Baylor, Texas A&M game from last season. The best I can find is highlight stuff. This tells half the story, and it is hard to objectivley watch.. It was probably Tannehils best outing. From what I could tell. Tannehill liked rolling out to his right..Never left. It would appear he had a quick release. After tons of rewinds. I chalk it up to his first read being WIDE OPEN. His misses were high which IMO means he has poor footwork at times, especially under pressure. Like I said. It is hard to tell the truth from game higlight clips..

I don't hate the number eleven.

Lou/odin,

The NFL is a what have you done for me lately League just ask Steeler lifer Hines Ward! I expect him in either a Bengal or Ravens Uniform 2012. Flynn put on a show for the instant gratification clowns who run the NFL and will strike GOLD for it. You can't blame the Pack for trying to cash in a little bounty in the process but given his showing there was NO way given their need to resign players who contribute that the Pack would commit the 3 to 4 Million it probably would have took to keep Flynn around, it is what it is!!

Odin..Good post @ 12:01..

Lou,

Two points I have to comment on.

1. Green Bay is interested in developing backup QB's(when needed). Getting Rodgers behing Farve(as you mentioned)is the perfect example.

2. I think they were trying the same thing with Flynn. BUT, with the emphasis more towards possibly trading him eventually.

3. The reason YG is wrong is because Green Bay made attempts at re-signing/extending Flynn's deal. He himself declined at least two different offers.

Henne is going to reunite with Sporano in NJ

..This is what I think the NFL should do as far as making viewing even better for fans. I would like to see a feature that you could watch games from a camera position of your choice..For instance. A full view of the field. You could zoom in or out using your remote. Pick a different camera..Say endzone, whatever. My point is that none of us will ever have access to game tapes. None that are relevant anyway.. An option that would let you watch the game from a point where you could see the whole field would be awesome for football junkies..Of course you could watch the standard feed(this would be a service kind of like Red Zone Channel)

odin,
I have no recollection of the Packers trying to extend Flynn's contract. I thought I had Total Recall but I guess the Ginko pills aren't working. I'm sending them back for a refund.

odin,
Of course Green Bay was interested in developing Rodgers. He was drafted towards the end of Favre's career and was seen as the eventual replacement. Flynn wasn't drafted for the same reason. He was drafted as a backup and nothing more.

Did you hear the Dolphins have gone high tech. They are now using Cloud Analytics from IBM to track sales within the stadium.
For the fans there will be a mobile app allowing them to view the latest scores, give people on their way to the stadium travel and parking instructions and also lead people to the concessions with the shortest lines.

Manning, according to numerous sources, has improved dramatically and should be full strength by May. If that's the case, Ross will take him hoping to get 3 to 5 years out of him and we'll miss out on RG3! Philbin wants a west coast approach, Ross wants Manning. Interesting situation happening, Philbin wants to control the offense, Manning would control the O if he comes here. Manning and his wife love So. Florida, they own a condo here...

With Kolb the ESPN crew (Clayton, Schefter et al) pumped him up until the Cards signed him then they waited about 1 week before they turned thier back on him.
With Flynn they are not even waiting until his signed.
They've already turned thier back on him.
That's why GB won't franchise him because they'll end up stuck paying him big money if they do.

I admit to not being on the RG3 train, but to those who comment on his being a spread/not under center QB,I have two words.Tom Brady.
Brady took over 60% of his snaps in the gun.

To get RG3, we need to give the Rams 2012/2013 #1's, a 3rd and 5th this year, and either Marshall (whose Pro Bowl game, as ridiculous as that game is, blew everyone away) or Hartline/Matt Moore.
We can lose Moore, as you HAVE to start RG3, and pick up veteran unsigned QB.
Moore's value, due to his top 10 finish would be a 2nd rounder, I'd guess.

An option that would let you watch the game from a point where you could see the whole field would be awesome for football junkies..Of course you could watch the standard feed(this would be a service kind of like Red Zone Channel)

Darryl, thanks for the compliment earlier. I'll return the favor and THEN SOME!

EXCELLENT POST @ 12:26!!!!

PS: What can I say, I'm a Junkie!

Flynn was not drafted to be the backup.
He was drafted as an investment.
GB had no expectation that he would be there 7th round 1 way or another.
It came up though, second to last pick in whole draft, and he was nat'l c'ship so they took him.
He filled the role of backup and was never tested.

The real test is playing behind Columbus at tackle, Ricky/Ronnie running the ball, BM dropping passes and Fasano lateralling the ball to the defense.
Let's see Flynn put up the most 300+ yard games behind Marino under those circumstances.

Is it just ME or does Matt Flynn out of LSU remind alot of Ken Dorsey out of UM?? They were both leading Natl. Champ material with talent to spare and both were seen as having suspect arms although great College QB's. The Difference is Dorsey went to Cleveland and was thrown in when Franchise savior Tim Couch folded like a cheap shirt. It's worth noting that Dorsey lost all of once as Miami's 4 Yr. starting QB given the phantom pass interference in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl which cost Miami 2 straight with everybody leaving the field when the back judge threw that P.I. flag while Flynn had one Season as a starter and wasn't even an over shadowing figure on their 2006 Champ. team, his BIO speaks for itself and I will post it:

With Russell's departure, Flynn finally became a starter as a fifth-year senior. He started every game that season except the SEC Championship in which he was injured.

Flynn threw a 22 yard TD pass to Demetrius Byrd to win the game against Auburn on October 20, 2007 with 1 second remaining on the clock; Colt David kicked the extra point to make the final score LSU 30-Auburn 24.

He then led the Tigers to a 4th quarter comeback against Alabama. Flynn and the Tigers then went on to beat Louisiana Tech the following weekend and climb back to the #1 spot after a loss by then-#1 Ohio State. The following week the Tigers beat Ole Miss. In his final game at Tiger Stadium, Flynn and the Tigers lost to Arkansas, seemingly losing any chance at the national title. However, LSU, without Flynn, beat Tennessee for the SEC Championship, and losses by Missouri and West Virginia vaulted LSU back into the title game in New Orleans.

On January 7, 2008, Flynn led LSU to a BCS National Championship, beating Ohio State 38-24. Flynn was named offensive MVP of the game and the Tigers were ranked an undisputed #1 in the polls.

odin,
I have no recollection of the Packers trying to extend Flynn's contract. I thought I had Total Recall but I guess the Ginko pills aren't working. I'm sending them back for a refund.

Lou,

Don't send your pills back too quickly.

I try to keep my posts as factual as possible. But, I'm only as good as my sources. I read the info on Flynn's extension offers somewhere on the net(yikes).

You never know-LOL.

Embarrassing Side Note: I started my QB scouting with Tannehill this year. I got my info from a site that didn't list his Senior Season.

I mistakenly took his Junior year for his Senior and FINAL year. Needless to say, I had to do alot of reassessing! BIG DIFFERENCE-Dooh!

odin,

I'll go you one better. I hear now decree you the greek god Apollo himself. Why give an apology when you can serve up Apollo himself.

...Odin. Yeah, football has replaced the spot in my heart that was once taken by Burnside Avenue(If you are ever in Portland Oregon..Just sayin)..I'm out. Have a good night Phin fans.

Yes, it is time to hit the hay. Night y'all.

You can make a mistake on the facts but not on what your eyes see and Matt Flynn is Ken Dorsey, Steve Walsh, Danny Wuerffel, Jesse Palmer ect... GOOD College arm that's it!

OK YG, close enough for me. For the record though, I'll stick with Odin-LOL.

Seriously though, I don't know anything about the Jay character. I do however suspect he was using two different sign in names earlier on this page.

It's all GOOD YG!

oder and Apollo in the same sentence is like convincing your woman to take a bath in kitty litter.

Fin,

You put Flynn in this group? That's pretty interesting considering I put a lot of stock in your observations(and memory-lol).

I think Flynn a Flavor of the Week type. Definitely being hyped and over-rated.

But DAMN! You got the guy slummin around with some bums-lol!

To be honest, I haven't seen enough of him to make any hard calls. But I tend to agree with you. Maybe not to the same degree, but I agree nonetheless.

Good Night Of Blogging People!

PS: Armando, where are you and RGIII registering? You think cash in a card to Passe?
