Alleged video of Peyton Manning Friday workout

The video below of Peyton Manning throwing the football in a workout has hit the web and ESPN. It is sold as a video of Manning on Friday throwing at Duke University.

1. Manning has indeed been confirmed to be at Duke these past few days.

2. There is zero confirmation this is the Duke field or that the video is from yesterday, although ESPN ran with it as if it is legitimate.

3. The video was obviously taken without Manning's permission thus the poor and apparent undercover nature of it. It is only 27 seconds long. Can you say surreptitious?

4. If the video is legit, it shows Manning does have the ability to move fairly well.

5. If the video is legit, it shows Manning does have the ability to throw deeper patterns as one of his passes goes a good 50 yards.

6. Manning looks good but not great in the video. His drop is not quick. His spirals are all not tight.

7. The velocity on Manning's out throw is very good.

So that's a glimpse of what Manning is doing, assuming the video taken in secret is legitimate. That is a big assumption. I believe the grain of salt approach is best here.

Props to reader Michael Heck for passing the video along.

I don't care if it's Manning or not. Sign him!

I would be very curious to know if that is really him.
It makes sense that he's in pads and helmet, it would also makes sense for this to be a silly hoax. One could go either way.

Tampa? Caint recull.

I think the video is authentic.
Maybe Manning is working with David Cutcliffe, wasn't He Manning's either QB coach or OC at UT...

So Peyton Manning got dressed up in pads and started throwing the ball in front of people. With a contract coming up? Sure he did.

Mortenson and Clayton confirmed its legit

I think its Eli.

Armando you really are clueless if you don´t want this man in a dolphin uniform, if is even just one year, clueless.

wow great video,ha. whats the point of this

Hey, WTH happened here? There were some completely legitimate comments deleted here. I'm never #1. Armando, you trying our patience.

Armando is more pathetic than his paid blog hit troll @ 4:46 impostoring me.

If Armando hadn't already stuck his foot in his mouth about Manning, this 27 second video would be a non issue.

If it was RGIII in the video, Mando would be drooling all over it and telling us all how good he looks.

Mando, you and your trolls ain't fooling nobody.

PS: Open mouth, insert foot.

LOL ;P

Until Peyton validates this video as a fraud, we can all assume its legit.

If it is legit, noway Peyton isnt behind it, he has $28 million reasons to be secretly behind it. Less than a week before his signing bonus is due, all of a certain this video comes out. Impeccable timing, you do the math. LOL

Oscar,

Why didn't you have the fake Odin @ 4:46 deleted?

I thought you guys were told no more impostoring?

Armando does a great job reporting. I've become a fan.

Armando says the drop back looks slow. It isnt Manning's drop back thats in question its his arm, Armando! LOL

Sorry, I was working early this morning and just woke up. My post should have read:

That's better........a litte..........

Or should that read: That's a little better?

(I need a drink)

Don't know man. I get incensed when they delete legitimate comments, be they mine or anybody else's.

It's not Peyton. He isn't waving his arms around and shouting meaningless stuff before every play.

Good Point YG!

It's not like Manning's trying out for his first Pop Warner team. Sheesh, Mando needs to get a grip.

Manning is rebuilding muscle after having some atrophy. Pretty common stuff after surgery and rehab. You know, he just might be being careful. Taking it slow. After all, reinjuring his arm/neck or pulling a muscle could cost him a lot of money.

Mando's just slanting EVERYTHING because it starting to look like he put his foot in mouth......AGAIN!

Theres still a lot of time for rehab and if it is him it tells me he has progressed further than anyone would imagine at this point

Schefter tweeted that he is indeed throwing with Dallas clark and Collie and a few more receivers

Maybe not in this video but he reported that fact is true.

Big deal. The dumbphins are going to be in the same position in two years if they sign manning. And do they believe tannehill, osweiler, weeden, are franchise qbs? All 3 suck.

C'mon. Manning is a multi millionaire and doesn't need to play silly games to get his bonus.

Does anyone really think Manning wants to go back to Indy where he has virtually no shot at winning another title now that they have cleaned house and are in full rebuild mode?

Irsay has shown his hand. The Luck era begins 2012 game 1.

I don't think Philbin and/or Sherman would mind having a healthy Peyton Manning AT ALL.

Sure they would have to tweak the offense and give Manning complete freedom to do what he does at the line of scrimmage. He is a First Ballot Hall of Famer after all.

If I were Philbin/Sherman I would look at it this way:

1. Manning makes us an instant playoff threat.

2. While Manning is being Manning, we could concentrate more on other areas needing improvements.

3. Maybe most importantly, Manning buys me some time. He gives me at least two, maybe even three years to find and coach up our long term answer at Quarterback.

I have no idea how any of them really feel about Manning. I'm just saying, If I were Philbin/Sherman, I would be welcoming him with OPEN ARMS(In Ross' case, it would be an OPEN Wallet.....of course).

odinseye,

My thoughts exactly. If Manning continues to improve with the injury,we have to take a risk and sign him.

Just imagine the season Marshall and Bess would have if Manning was throwing them the ball.

I'm not being biased but Miami is the perfect fit for Manning...not Kansas City or Arizona or anywhere else for that matter and if it doesn't work out, what do we lose? We haven't had a decent QB for bloody ages lol...

Gotta sign him if it is incentive contract. No brainer. Risk far less than possible reward.

Mark,

If Philbin is forced to stick with Moore and he flops or goes 6-9 or even 8-8, the scrutiny intensifies and the Honey Moon is over.

If he goes with Flynn, pretty much the same deal.

If he goes with Manning, he's most probably instantly establishes himself as a Head Coach. That's if Manning wins of course.

Here's the kicker. If they go with Manning and he flops big time, for whatever reasons, age, injuries, etc, etc. Philbin gets a pass and the heat falls directly on Ross and Ireland.

I really cant see a scenario in which Philbin won't fully welcome Manning.

The only thing that alters this in any way is RGIII and I just don't see Ireland pulling off any deal that brings him here. I'm not anti-RGIII at all. I just don't see it realistically happening.

I know, I'm babbling. Who cares, I admit it. The thought of a healthy Manning in Miami does that too me.

This Peyton manning situation feels very familiar. After going through the Chad Pennington situation, I feel like i know how this story is going to end...

really, manning makes miami an instant playoff team. Highly unlikely. first the o line needs to be revamped again. Manning will be running for his life with the line they have now, second who knows how the d is going to play. They could get torched for all we know.

Odineeye what is your problem with Armando? He's the best columnist in south florida and has every right to have his opinion on Peyton Manning, RG3 and anyone else.

Why don't you something useful and comment on his posts rather than him? Get off the man's jock because your obsession is a little weird.

Very interesting post Mando. Still doesn't convince me to want Manning.

NO thank you to Peyton Manning. Same people that rip Jeff Fisher for having only 6 winning seasons in 15 years are in love with Manning even though he won only one super bowl in 14 years -- same amount as trent dilfer.

If you're talking about another AFC East Championship I TOTALLY agree-LOL.

Except no one and done for Peyton. Once you make the playoffs with a that calibre of QB, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!

Manning doesn't give the coaching staff more time to find another QB. It steals a season or two from the staff, wasting their time with a player who has had his best day and isn't going back.

Chad Pennington didn't save Tony Sparano.
Trent Greent didn't save Cam Cameron.
Daunte Culpepper didn't save Nick Saban.
Joe Montana didn't save Marty Schottenheimer.
Dan Marino didn't save Jimmy Johnson.
Brett Favre didn't save Eric Mangini.

Old QBs don't save anyone.

Guys, we have a brand new coaching staff, rookie HC, rookie DC, completely new systems. The team is going to be out of sync. Peyton won one SB after many years on a team that had the same OC his whole career and a great Dungy defense.

Now realistically, is he going to join a new team that is starting fresh and lead them to a SB in the few years he has left?

That doesn't even account for the mystery of his rehab. No matter what his daddy says or a distant video says, we won't know how good Manning is until he shows it. We don't know know how well his arm will hold up throwing intensely for several months either.

No matter what, choosing Peyton means starting over in 2 or 3 years yet again.

Worth the risk?

I say sell the farm and the eldest daugther for RG3.

I hate to rain on your pity party.......BUT!

Moore had this team, AS IS, on a 6-3 roll. Came real close to being an 8-1 finish. If Moore can do THAT, I have a feeling Manning can do a little better.

The O-line isn't as big of a problem as you make it out to be. The biggest problem with our line the past few years is that so called Coach now working in NY.

The way John Jerry played left tackle last year makes believe he's ready to take the right tackle job. That means we have Carey, Murtha, The other guy whose name I can't remember. That if we don't find our starting right guard in Free Agency or the draft.

Cheers!!!!

Actually you're the one coming off as a little wierd.

All I did was comment on his opinion. His slanted opinion of Manning and RGIII.

Maybe Mando seems holier than thou to you, but for me he's fair game. This is after all, A BLOG!

Which reminds me, you actually did exactly what you accused me of doing. You posted about your misunderstanding my post and offered no opinion yourself. No offense Bro, but don't you think thats a tad hippocritical?

Why don't YOU get off MY jock and try to contribute to the conversation?

Huh? Good idea ain't it?

If you removed all the posts of odinseye rebutting everyone, this blog would rarely ever be more than one page. It seems like every time I stop by 7 out of 10 posts are odinseye responding endlessly to someone else.

Manning doesn't automatically make Miami an instant playoff team but he gives us the best chance to reach the playoffs than having Matt Moore,Matt Flynn or dare i say it,RGIII starting for us.

By the end of the season,we had a top 10 Defense in terms of points conceded and as odinseye said, the Oline is'nt as bad as what people make out. All it takes is a decent Free Agent pickup and an early draft pick and i'm sure the line will be sorted...

Odin. How much does Morphine cost now adays?I Saw you made 1600 Dollars today, was I right about the $ 800 "HOTTIE". LMAO over the Idiot Odin

Yea and so does us being in this same position again in another year or two with no QB because we spent every draft pick trying to get better everywhere else so we could win now. Being short sighted is good for fans not for a successful front office.

Manning would look great in a Dolphins uniform- that's undeniable!

LOL @ 6:23.....

So would Jennifer Lopez, does that mean she's a good option?

The argument of ..."what do we do in a few years when Peyton retires"....is among the most IDIOTIC i have EVER heard....

What will the PATS do when Brady reyires ina few years...go into a panic...maybe even quit the league....

What ever will the Saints do if the can't re-sign Brees.....move to Canada....

What have the Packers done since Favre was kicked off the team....jump ship to the ARENA LEAGUE.....NOPE...they won ANOTHER SB.....

GMs are paid to plan for the future....COACHES are paid to WIN NOW.....thats the YING and YANG of it.....

Clyde,

For the record you do have a legit point for Manning not to wanna return to Indy. However, with two sb appearances and onw sb win, it not a Marino situation where he's still chasing a ring. His greatest motivation to return to Indy could very well be just to become one of an extremely minut number of qb's to began and end thier career with the same team.

He's already done what he was drafted as a franchise qb to od. Thats to bring a sb championship. This is not to mention he would still be a hof qb(just like Marino) even if he had not won a sb title. Peyton has nothing else to loose. Anything he does now is only frosting on an already well frosted cake.

Kris, none of those QB's you mentioned had a 2 year lifespan when they were signed. Being a team without a good QB for over a decade, maybe it isn't wise to invest in a 36 yo QB that can only be in decline all injuries aside. If there is a player in the draft available with high potential to be a long term solution, it's time to roll the dice.

Yesterday G, me thinks, guessing, since the firing of the GM, the departure of the only OC he ever had, his desire to remain loyal may have waned especially since the team no longer looks legitimately competitive right now. His peers, Big Ben, Brady already have multiple rings, and I'd think he'd want to get one more while he still can, just so history measures him up more fairly. I'd take Peyton in his prime over anyone since Marino but the media pundits may be likely to put Ben and Brady ahead of him if he doesn't win another.

We'll know a lot more in 5 days. Irsay will, no doubt, take it down to the wire. If he decides to keep Manning he has to pay him a $28 million option bonus no later than March 8th and Manning's salary will be $17 million. So, that's $45 million just for Manning this year.
Add to that Luck's first year salary of about $7 million and you're paying two players in the same position over $50 million. It's hard to see Irsay saying "yes" to that scenario. If he lets' Manning walk he's off the hook for $45 million.

The downside to to signing Manning is the hc and oc practically has to let him run "Peyton Manning's offense. That both good and bad.

The Good: No explanation needed.

The Bad:

What5's an oc to do? While Peyton's running "peyton's offense". What offense are or is the other qb(s) of the offense running?

If Peyton goes downs and the starting offense has been taking all of thier reps with the Peyton offense. Do we now start the 2nd team offense who have been taking all thier reps with the new coordinator's new offense. Most likely the backup qb isnt learning the "peyton manning offense".

Think about it. Could Indy's offensive troubles last season without Peyton Manning be linked to the backup qb's were learning an entirely different offense other than the "Peyton Manning" offense? Manning's probably the only qb in the league that runs his very own offense.

FLIPER/YG?DB FLIP FLOPS AGAIM,HE LAST WEEK SAID MANNING IS LOST CAUSE, BUT LIKE AFISH OUT OF WATER HE FLIP-FLOPS AGAN.YG/YG/FLIPER, HAVE YOU NO SHAME?
(BUFFET OF KNOWLEDGE)

ALoco,

If I didnt love you so much I would tell about how your mother could really be turned on by a "flip-flopping" motion. Especially the up and down part. LOL

Clyde...

well put....and I always respect that...

but...

Manning @ 80% is better than 90% of QBs in the league....i'll put my money on him leading us to the promise land....before i sign my name to Moore, Flynn...or even RG3.....

Manning means instant credibility in the AFC EAST...and the NFL in general....

He will be motivated...he is always dedicated....and if we keep him upright....we will be playoff bound for the next 3-4 years....and playoff experience can't be taught....it can only be earned.....

Professor I think Irsays angle is to let him walk and then offer him the same deal another team would offer him. This way he skirts paying 28 million for an unknown commodity, and he won't look so bad if he offers him the same salary any other team is offering. I think its nothing but a clever ploy to let Manning walk. Either way, he knows he has a new franchise QB of the future, so if he can get Peyton on the cheap for another year or two, its all win win for Irsay. These owners, not even Ross, got where they are by being stupid.

KRIS,WORD IS HE CANT THROW MORE THEN 20 YARDS, HENNE THE HERO COUCD DO THAT, WHY SPEND 30 MILLON DOLLORS OF MR.ROSSES MONEY?

I don't think anyone here pro manning coming here is thinking we do that and forget the future... The reason we take the chance in manning is we can't get rg3 or luck. You can't draft tanny @ 8. It is not a good value. So you take a low risk flyer on manning. If he is good we win. Sb? Who knows. But we would be in every game. Or have a chance.

If it fails our record will put us in a similar or better drafting position. We still need to find the future, this year or next year. but a good Peyton makes the losing culture her vanish immediately. Then Miami is attractive to all the good free agents. Young ones. Ad rookies coming out. I can not see a negative to the manning signing. Especially if it is an incentive based contract.

Kris, I can agree with just about all of your last post. But...caveats...I don't like the unknown side of Peytons rehab. If there was certainty he would be fine that changes things. What I think is bad for any team, and worse for a team with a brand new coaching staff, is to go through an offseason full of doubt, will he be ready or won't he, those things take their toll come game 1.

If there was a time to roll the dice on a high pick, RG3 seems like a good call to me. One thing I believe, he will make this team one of the most exciting teams to watch for years to come, and I like that. I don't see any other QB on the horizon with more excitement value. And yes, I like to be excited.

Manning could satisfy the "NOW". But he doesnt satisfy our future demand at qb. Even if we sign Manning we still have to at least "ATTEMPT" to trade up for RG#.

If we sign Manning and make "ZERO" attempt at RG3. It means going into the future with Moore at the helm. Moore has as much upside as any qb we could draft after RG3. So it may it be pretty much a waste to use a 2nd rd pick on a qb not guaranteed to be any better than Matt Moore in the future.
