Brandon Marshall in another nightclub fracas

Something happened at the Chelsea nightclub that has Brandon Marshall again at the heart of a legal problem and perhaps in the sights of the NFL's personal conduct policy.

More details are necessary but if you trust the New York Post account, Marshall apparently punched a woman at 4 a.m. Monday after he was kicked out of the Marquee Club. The report says Marshall was involved in a fight with another football player who were thrown out.

Christin Myles then headed out of the club and allegedly got punched by Marshall who meant to to hit someone else.

Marshall's lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, released a statement that does not specifically address the allegation that Marshall hit anyone.

"On March 12, 2012 Brandon Marshall was the keynote speaker at a charitable event in New York. After the event was over he, his wife and close friends attended a function at a local club. While at the function a fight broke out NOT involving Mr. Marshall or his friends. While attempting to leave to avoid the melee Mrs. Marshall was struck in the face by a thrown bottle. She suffered serious injury.

While attempting to leave and take his wife to the hospital, the mayhem continued outside. Finally Mr. Marshall was able to take his wife to the hospital where she was treated for serious injuries. Mr. MArshall is hoping to assist authorities in regards to this matter."

Some thoughts:

1. Obviously there was a ton of criticism of the Dolphins Tuesday for trading Marshall to the Bears for two third-round picks considering he cost the team two second-round picks only two years ago. If, and I stress if, the Dolphins knew of Marshall's most recent trouble then it wasn't such a terrible trade. If the Dolphins were ignorant about the fight, then it is fair to say they gave Marshall away in desperation.

2. Conversely, if the Bears knew of Marshall's most recent trouble, they made a gamble move for what seems like a relatively fair price for an Alpha wide receiver that is troubled. If they made the move not knowing of the allegations, they must have thought they ripped off the Dolphins.

3. If the Bears did not know, the possibility of whether this trouble could cause the Bears to request a cancellation of the trade must be addressed. Doesn't mean the Bears will definitely want to cancel the trade, but until they say one way or another, it is an issue.

[Update: Bears GM Phil Emery released a statement on Brandon Marshall: "Both the Bears and Dolphins were aware of what occurred over the weekend. We decided to move forward with the trade. We have high expectations for Brandon as a Bear]

The trade stands.

4. That long-ago acquisition of Marshall? The one meant to "get the team over the top?" It failed to do what it was meant to accomplish. The move will go down in Dolphins history as a reach and a gamble and just another example of the team not being able to identify, draft and develop its own players, thus causing them to have to go outside for players with questionable histories (conduct) or situations (health).

5. I admit that after being vehemently against the Marshall acquisition in 2010 (check the archives) and even calling for his trade at least twice, I warmed to Marshall late last season. I felt sympathy for his Borderline Personality Disorder struggle. I also wanted to believe his recent commitment to attending church might be positive for him. Well, I was fooled.

6. If he is suspended, whatever team that has his rights -- the Bears if the trade sticks, the Dolphins if he returns -- will have the right to dock $6 million from his $9.3 million salary in 2012. That per the contract he signed with Miami in 2010.

7. This trade was obviously and clearly NOT a move meant as the first shoe dropping on the acquisition of Peyton Manning. Had NOTHING to do with potentially acquiring Manning. Zero. Nada. Zip. Zilch.

8. Yesterday I asked a source why this Marshall trade. "Be patient. You'll see," was the answer. Now we see.

Craig M,
I now understand why Adam Schefter has treated the Dolphins so cold. Before he joined ESPN, he was a reporter in Denver. If he makes the Dolphins a freak show then Manning will goes to Denver.

GM Ireland is doing his Razzle Dazzle

Peyton now will meet w Tennessee owner tomorrow-Wednesday

So Peyton signing w the Miami Dolphins now may take until Friday

and we can all get happily drunk on Green Beer

So Dolfans there u go
We must be Patient and wait for the new Peyton signing w Miami date

Peyton signs on St. Patties Day!

"MVP QB Peyton Manning WILL be a Miami Dolphin in 2012"

Laurent Robinson, the acorn?

The 3rd option in Dallas behind Whitten & Bryant/Austin. Will be fun trying to see him replace Marshall & taking on double teams.

It's easy to succeed when everyone else is opening the field up for you.

FLH, are you a part of the morality police or something? You sound almost too righteous.
No matter what you say, people are entitled to live their lives how they want. Not how you think they should.
You or people who are thinking like you, are not Jesus Christ. People are not obligated to live their lives in your footsteps on in your perfect view of how they should live.
Get over your snooty selves!

I really do not care what BM does in his own time.....but I hope he has another means (other than football) to support his family. His football career will be drastically shortened if he does not wise up. That's a him problem, not a me problem. I'm glad this moron is not a Miami problem any longer. Immaturaty is written all over him. You would think his past experiences would shape his future decisions. Obviously is has not. Tell your rant to the Bears organization and his teammates after the suspension.

AS FAR AS THE NIGHT CLUB THING I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

I DO KNOW THAT THE POST IS NOT A GREAT PAPER.

I READ THE DAILY NEWS.

BAR FIGHTS HAPPEN OFTEN AND PEOPLE GET HIT.

FOR ALL WE KNOW THAT WOMAN COULD OF HIT BRANDON OR HIS WIFE.

SHE COULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN HIT AND HURT HERSELF LOOKING FOR A PAY DAY.

SHE COULD OF BEEN AT THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME AND GOT HIT BY MISTAKE.

SOMEONE ELSE COULD HAVE HIT HER DURING THE FIGHT BUT BRANDON IS GETTING ACCUSED.

I've BEEN THERE AND EVERYBODY WHO GOES THERE KNOWS THAT THERE'S A FIGHT ALMOST EVERY WEEK AND A SHOOT OUT AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH.

IT's A HOT SPOT FOR BIG SHOT LOW LIVES AND EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE SOME CLASS B CELEBS POPS IN.

BUT THE ONE TIME I WENT IT WAS OK.

I HEAR ABOUT IT AND IT'S RUN INS OFTEN.

BRANDON HAS WAY TO MUCH MONEY TO BE GOING THERE.

dolphin fan in georgia,

That makes a lot of sense now. Regardless, he's gone way down in my estimation.

SPEAKING FOR THE BLOG,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts bud. We're all the more wiser for it. Guess what, if you don't like itm don't read it....pretty simple. But you're not going to go around censoring what people say. Nobody gave you that job.
Have fun....

This coming from the person who said he'd ignore the trolls. I'm sure you'd consider me 1 but, you can't resist getting suckered in. You're too easy to fluster & it's clear why.

You know it's all true! LMAO

Home facts on the emerging acorn:

On October 2, as the team's third receiver Robinson caught seven passes for 116 yards in a loss to the Detroit Lions. During the week eight loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, he had five catches for 103 yards and a touchdown, his first as a Cowboy. In the next game on November 6, Robinson again caught five passes 32 yards and a touchdown. Robinson followed up that game with three catches, two of which were touchdowns, against the Buffalo Bills starting in place of Miles Austin, while he was recovering from a hamstring injury. From week 8 through week 12, Laurent caught 24 passes for a total of 321 yards and 7 touchdowns.

He's baaaaaaaaaack! Hide your farm animals!!

Home Facts:

Fins working on deal w WR Robinson

Robinson averages about 16 YDs per catch and scored 11 TDs last season w the Cowboys even though he was only named a starter in 3 of the games

AndyNJ,
Totally agree with you. Philbin is a no non sense coach. He learned that in GB. Look at GB, that is classy organization. Never hear any disfunction from them. I believe Philbin is the only reason Manning considered the Dolphins. The players respected Philbin in GB. The fact that Wells is considering the Dolphins speaks alot for itself. The Dolphins need to embrace Philbin and give him everything he needs to make this organization classy like the days of Shula.

I hate to agree with Craig, but I think he's right on this one. Flynn is no clear upgrade over Moore. My fear if we get Flynn is Moore beats him out for the starting position, and then what (highest paid backup in history).

I get it, Flynn's better in the WC offense, but so then are you saying there will be NO competition for QB? How'd that work out with Chad Henne?

If anyone thinks Flynn is potentially an elite QB, you're smoking something. He ain't!

Also, please people, don't post BS FA moves UNLESS you've confirmed it in TWO places (and it's on a major site that everyone can go see for themselves).

The Whole World Gets Drunk on St. Patricks Day and celebrates M2M !

Just read something that helps Dolphins in getting Eric Winston. His wife is from South Florida nd would love to come back home.

DC,

I don't think any of us know if Flynn is a clear upgrade and how could we. Moore is average and Flynn was very good in only 2 starts, not enough to go on.

Ireland and Philbin I'm sure have had discussions on this which would be obvious and if Philbin believes in Flynn then I say he must be a clear upgrade because we have to be patient and believe in Philbin and what he is doing.

The Dolphins have to get Winston signed today. If he leaves without a contract then the Dolphins lose him. He is a dominant RT.

Mr. Ireland is a good scout, heck you may call him a great one. As GM? No he hs shown so far he's good at reacting but terrible at planning ahead.
After a disastrous start of the season it was a certainty Sparano was going to be let go. Ireland's job as part of his GM duties was to laid the building blocks for this offseason to have what it takes to reload via FA or preferably through the draft.

This whole Marshall thing did not start yesterday, in fact prior to acquire him he had a sizable baggage that came with him. Once again this GM is better at reacting rather than planning ahead. Of course the Marshall trade makes sense now, but anyone who tells you we were a player away from contention is just kidding himself. Thus why not trade Marshall last year before the trade deadline when more teams, the ones in contention usually pay top price for a WR like Marshall?

We would at the very least have gotten one 2nd rd pick, perhaps more. That move alone would have put in the driver seat for either RG3 or even Luck and laid the foundation via draft of our team for the next decade.
So, nope this last trade is just not a good one, is a knee jerk reaction to what should have happened last year, a good GM would have made that move then, not now, we just weaken our team at the position and lost any trading chips we could have used to get a top QB prospect.

andy didn't moore won 2 o player of the week ?. just say'n he's got skillz.

I was raped in church. However, I didn't think it was good for me like Mando.

well at least I understand the Marshall move now..I was bown away by it yesterday. OK, it does not help our WR issue, but looking at it now, it was a smart move.

Great information! I find myself reading your blog quite often! Keep up the good work.

A Miami Dolphin being in a low down New York night club at 4 in the morning is just asking to get shot.

This justout from Dolphins publicists: " Jeff Ireland stays true to his vision". Bye-bye Manning, bye-bye Flynn, bye-bye wins, bye-bye fans ! God help us ! What channel carries the Steelers ?
