Dolphins are still in Manning sweepstakes

This morning I did my usual round of texting/emailing/begging to my Dolphins and other NFL sources. And the question du jour (that means today) had to do with ESPN's constant reports that the Dolphins are down and nearly out of the Peyton Manning sweepstakes.

I reported to you over the weekend that Miami is in lockdown mode on the information and informed sources front. And there is two ways to take this approach.

It is either good news because it means the team is shutting down as to not hurt any possibility of getting Manning -- a possibility that still exists. Or ...

It means the club has locked down because Manning has swatted them aside like a gnat and Miami is simply trying to mask the embarrassment.

So I asked my sources if it's fair to believe lockdown mode is a sign the club is still in the game for No. 18 and doesn't want to hurt those chances.

"Fair," one source responded.

"Correct," another source responded.

There you go, folks. The Dolphins are still in the Manning sweepstakes. It is not over after Manning's trips to Denver and Arizona.

Doesn't mean the Dolphins will get Manning. But there is still hope.

Clue,

Are you kidding? Give Ireland 7-8yrs to build a team?

Even giving Ireland 7-8yrs we'll be right back where we were at the end of this season. Failing to land the big fish hc and qb. Then settling for another Philbin and perhaps Matt Flynn.

Ireland needs to go and Ross needs to sell. Neither have much of a clue. No pund meant towards you sir. LOL

You better believe that Peyton reads this Blog, and other things, no balls.

No balls @ 2:59 - Actually, I put most of that on Parcells since he was "the man" for 3 of 4 of those seasons. I will blame Ireland later.

Also, yes, we should be in playoff contention...it was a failed re-build and also a failed coaching tenure. Those primarily responsible are no longer with the organization. Ireland is being given a short leash due to the fact that he wasn't ultimately responsible for making those decisions...Parcells was.

It is being reported Manning will meet with Coach Philbin. NOT Ross and Ireland.

Good move by Dolphins. Don't want to scare Manning away with the creep Ireland!!

Kris,

You're dead right....Phins78 is one of the few guys on here that makes ANY sense. I'll add Mark in Toronto, DD, Ohio, wolf and a bunch of others I'm forgetting right now. It's actually harder to be on this blog than to be a fan of this team and I didn't think that possible. The negativity from the fanbase is something I've never seen with any of other team. Toronto Maple Leaf fans aren't this bad and God knows I've been around enough of them. Are Cubs fans this bad?

we will still fill the seats but Ross will have to buy all the tickets himself!

Oscar,

If Peyton truly read this blog his dried ink would already be on a Dolphin contract. Then he would be willing to overlook the Ross/Ireland circus. Just to appease the long suffering Dolphins fans!

Why is Marino hesitant to meet with Manning (as a favor to the team)? Or has he not been asked (not sure why he wouldn't, especially if he was Manning's hero)?

These are the things Miami need to do to go the extra mile with Manning. Denver has Elway, AZ has Wisenhunt, Ross should be able to call Marino and ask for his help.

Craig M --- I think when you see the Dolphins start making some good moves, the negativity will die down. Hiring Philbin was a good start. Get a franchise QB and pick some studs in the draft and you will see an attitude change.

DC,

You bring up what Moore's confidence must be now that the Dolphins have reached out to Manning. Is that even relevant? What about the situation in Tenn where the owner has come out and said 'I want Manning'? What does that say to Hasselbeck? What does that say to Locker who they took at 8 last year? How about Tebow? Kolb? Sanchez? Cassel? These guys are all big boys. It's Peyton frickin' Manning, future Hall of Fame QB! Do you not want Ross and Ireland exploring any and all avenues to make this team better? I thought that was what you were complaining about in the first place...'too comfortable with mediocrity'.

How is what Moore is feeling even relevant to the situation?

We cannot pinpoint the nick, but we, more or less, can tell who is being paid here to vomit such BS. It is good practice. Later. Or maybe tomorrow.

DC Dolfan --- Marino is not paid by the Dolphins. He has nothing to do with the current Dolphins regime. You think he wants to go out of his way to vouch for these guys? While he still loves the city of Miami and I am sure the Dolphins he is not going to purposely steer Manning to Miami unless he felt it was the best fit. And let's face it, it probably isn't.

Not the best fit for Miami. Not the best fit for Manning.

I try to leave and they just keep sucking me back in!

"Don't tell phins78 he's wrong, we'll never read the end of it! Just let him have his say & maybe he'll leave."

That's the problem , I'm not wrong. You see we are all in here stating our opinions. These are for the most part not facts,,"this guy will be better than this one or in my opinion he didn't sign here for this reason". These are guesses and opinions we share.

Therefore no one is "wrong". And here in lies the problem when you allow adults and children into the same conversations. You ever wonder why you don't see a lot of 30 and older people hanging out with teens and vice versa? Because the younger people are still clueless and ignorant to the simplest of concepts.

In this case the concept is stating ones opinion and how it doesn't in any way relate to facts that may make an individual right or wrong.

Yes I will leave now, I'm glad that excites you! Now you have the blog all to yourself! But I'll be back,,,and then you will be all :( "damn, I hate it when smart people verbally spank me, I'm going to call him a poopy head and then write a bunch of LOLs"!

New Blog Up Guys!

I'm sure Moore realizes the situation. He is probably hoping Miami drafts a QB so he can still have a chance to start and compete. With one year left on his contract, he will try and showcase his talents for another team to pick him up.

I SAY SOMEONE SAY LIKE SHULA TOLD THEM TO LET PHILBIN MEET WITH MANNING CAUSE HE KNOWS THAT IRELAND AND ROSS CAN SCREW IT UP!

Redskins lose 36 MILLION in cap space!!!

Wow!!! Good luck signing any free agents! And with them trading all those picks, good luck drafting any young studs!!

If I was RGIII I would now tell the Redskins that I won't play for them and force them to trade the pick!! NOW THAT WOULD BE FUNNY!!

If we all TRULY believe that it's a QB driven league and you need a good QB to succeed, isn't the failure the Chad Henne experiment? Four years and very little success. Are guys actually putting that one on Ireland? What do you think Parcells was doing here all this time, if he wasn't calling the shots? You guys want to group Ireland in with Parcells on those decisions but those were PARCELLS decisions and not Ireland's. For all we know Ireland wanted Matt Ryan and Parcells over-ruled him. We don't know and for that reason it's not accurate to blame Ireland for all 4 years.

If it's true that QB's make a team go, then why do so many guess focus on the decisions to trade a 3rd, 5th and 7th for a 2nd round QB. Why do people criticize the decision to draft a centre at 15. It's irrelevant. The failure has been the failure to get a franchise QB, end of story.

No Balls,

How did the 'Skins lose $36 million in cap space. Enlighten me....I missed this.

I'm skipping over to the new blog....

This franchise is run like a pizza factory only in business to launder money.

WOW.....a fan since '82 in Canada, and props to Craig M. We all seem to be falling into that Maple Leafs syndrome where we think that any big signing will be the salvation of our beloved 'Fins. I ask Craig.....do you remember Bunny Larouque in the 70's? He was Ken Drydens back up, and the "word" was that he was a great goalie, but stuck in Drydens shadow....NOT!...Manning will not deliver us to the promised land. Defense wins championships...just ask New England...unless of course you can steal their signals, but I digress. To have gutted the coaching staff and brought in new talent requires first the team believing in the coach NOT the qb. The QB is part of the team, and chemistry ALWAYS trumps prima donna. Matt Flynn, Matt Moore, whoever... find the guy who wants to win more than attention or a paycheck, and that is the guy who will lead us to the promised land. Let Coach Philbin do his thing....and in the mean time console yourself and go watch Ace Ventura

Jrotten11,

Welcome, my friend. Don't remember seeing you posting here before. I remember Bunny well. He was one of my favourite goalies in the Blue and White. Unfortunately, he wasn't as good with us, as he was with the Habs, but the team felt different with him in the lineup and he gave the team some hope at least. I had to give up being a fan....just too frustrating a franchise to follow and they aren't any better today....I'm only a mild hockey fan now....much prefer the football played south of the border.

Good to have you on board, man.....

"du jour (that means today)"

Does Miami not know what du jour means? Or is Armando in the minority on this one. I mean, you couldn't tell me that people didn't know what 'soup du jour' meant this whole time either

Craig, I'm sorry you don't like my viewpoint (Kris too I guess). Believe me when I didn't write it to offend anyone, I just wrote it as a speculation of a possibility. I never said it was DEFINITELY going to happen or even LIKELY to happen. I simply made the statement because I was interested in thinking about what it would mean if it did happen.

It wasn't that serious (to me), yet, you and Kris have latched onto it like it was a directive from Moses on the Moutaintop. It's such an unimportant statement that I'm not even willing to debate it further with you (or anyone).

But what I'd like to point out to the both of you, is the negativity you're adding to the acerbic environment that has taken over this Blog. It used to be a place of fun and enjoyment (at least for me). But I'm losing that sense of Brotherhood here. Being in DC, I'm NEVER around this many Dolphins fans, yet, I probably argue more with you (posters here) than I do with my REAL (football) enemies.

Why? Why do people feel the need to degrade others who simply have a different viewpoint? Don't get me wrong, my hands aren't clean in this regard. I did it too. But enough is enough. I realized it's not healthy for me to spew hatred and personal attacks on people just because they think differently. I realized it's easy to get into that mentality.

I'm asking you and everyone reading this to look into yourself, and ask yourself that question: Why? And what can I do to improve the atmosphere, lessen the negativity, and bring some level-headed respect back to this "Community."

If you don't agree with me, then fine, it's ok. And we can respectfully debate the topic if you wish. But count me out on the acidic insinuations, the posts dripping with contempt, the aggressive attacking just to prove (to yourselves I guess) that your way is the only way to see anything, and everyone else be damned.

I'm done with all that. I'm doing things differently from here on out (hopefully, hard as it is). I'm offering up my opinions, and will interact with positivity and not negativity. It's time for the grown-ups to take over. Don't you see, we're becoming what we used to accuse the Trolls of doing to us. Unhinged. Irrational. We need a better way to relate to each other. We need mutual respect. Either that, or mutual destruction. I'd prefer the former.

CC, I tell you what embarrassment really is. It's not, being able to hire Harbaugh or Fisher, it not, not being able to to land Manning. The laughingstock of the NFL today is Washington and Dallas after that violated uncapped year salary cap, and having, in Washington's case, having 18 million dallors removed from your salary cap in 2012. How many free agents do you think their going to attract.

Yesterday's Gone, it NOT about ownership. Bill Bidwell the owner of the Arizona Cardinals is recognized as the worst owner in the NFL. You should really read about him. I would think if it's about ownership that KC would still be in it and Zona and Ten would be out. One of the reasons Fisher was out of football last year was because Bud Adams forced Vince Young down Fisher's throat.

DC Dolfan, as reported by Armamdo, Marino will not pitch PM unless asked by PM himself for his opinion. Early last year Marino was offered a FO job by Ross but declined because he enjoyed his lifestyle. Ever since though he has become close to the organization and Ross. They even play golf together. That has also been reported.

Sorry my bad I guess Skins actually had 36 million reduced from their cap....that's an embarrassment.
