Dolphins are still in Manning sweepstakes

This morning I did my usual round of texting/emailing/begging to my Dolphins and other NFL sources. And the question du jour (that means today) had to do with ESPN's constant reports that the Dolphins are down and nearly out of the Peyton Manning sweepstakes.

I reported to you over the weekend that Miami is in lockdown mode on the information and informed sources front. And there is two ways to take this approach.

It is either good news because it means the team is shutting down as to not hurt any possibility of getting Manning -- a possibility that still exists. Or ...

It means the club has locked down because Manning has swatted them aside like a gnat and Miami is simply trying to mask the embarrassment.

So I asked my sources if it's fair to believe lockdown mode is a sign the club is still in the game for No. 18 and doesn't want to hurt those chances.

"Fair," one source responded.

"Correct," another source responded.

There you go, folks. The Dolphins are still in the Manning sweepstakes. It is not over after Manning's trips to Denver and Arizona.

Doesn't mean the Dolphins will get Manning. But there is still hope.

DC,

What are you saying? You're the first one to take this franchise to task because they don't try to get better.....because they are 'content with mediocrity'. Now you're saying what have they done to Moore's confidence? I'm confused. What are you saying?

Its not about Philbin or Ross its about Ireland, this guy sucks. He cant find talent on offense or defense, Our best player is a offensive line player, that should seal is fate right there.

Denver went 8-8 because of Tebow magic. The started 1-6, which is more reflective of their nature.

The Fins, on the other hand, should have been 12-4 were it not for a few bad bounces.

@No Balls ..the coach said they would explore every option ... just cause they wanna look at Manning Dont mean they are 100% in on him! must be why we want to see him throw and the other teams dont care ...DONT YOU GET IT ! WE AREN'T SOLD ON MANNING !!! man yall are dumb ... you guys think just because they want a manning visit that we are down on one knee begging for him to come here ... NOT TRUE!

@JackSparrow: Brady was a sixth round pick. Montana went in the third round. Favre was a high second-rounder. Future HOF'er Kurt Warner wasn't drafted at all. Draft position has nothing to do with NFL success. If that were the case, JaMarcus Russell would have two or three rings by now.

Flynn is a reasonable gamble. He knows our new coach, and knows our offensive system.

We got 14 mil CAP space. That DOESN'T include getting rid of Soliai or anyone else (which will happen IMO, at least to Soliai, maybe Bell too).

IF you're not going to upgrade your QB position through FA, you really need to spend as much of that as possible to give your team the necessary firepower to compete. Ireland better get ready, he might be going on a shopping spree in 24+ hours.

Think about it, our best player in a LT, what team has made the playoffs let alone superbowl with that player being the best.

Ireland = acorns galore.

chris in 623, agree totally. we pay the freight;we have a right to hold the FO accountable. our GM has hid from the fans for 4 years.

What does that say about you, if you're spending all your time on a team you have no confidence in?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

We are here Craig M because we ARE fans and we CARE about the team. Just cause we have no faith in management doesn't mean we don't want this team to be successful and win. I hope Ireland proves me wrong. I hope we find a QB somehow.

Don't assume we aren't fans because we criticize and bash Ireland. I continue to spend time here cause I care about this team. I continue to spend my money on season tickets cause I care. Don't assume people are criticizing aren't real fans or we are somehow Jets fans in disguise. I want this team to be successful. I want this team to win. I want to eat my own words. But this team has given us very little to have confidence in for a long time...

DC,

Agreed. I became excited to get Manning, evening if it only meant a year or 2 of winning. Give us something to cheer about.

DC-
What will it do to Tebow or Cassel or Kolb, who cares about confidence. I want Moore on my team and barring a Manning or other big trade, I want him as my starter. I would not mind Kolb coming in if he gets cut, no way for Tebow though.

Don't get the philosophy that you're not a fan if you criticize your team. By standing pat and kissing the Dolphin brass's azzes all you are doing is saying "we like what you're doing, keep it up." And I for one deserve better as a fan, and you do too!

Posted by: Chris in the 623

No what you dont get chris is the fact that you never have anything nice to say about the dolphins... why are you even a fan then if thats the case? GO PICK A DIFFERENT TEAM ..lol

It will all be clear by 4pm tuesday, don't wait for manning, do what you have to do Tuesday!!

No Balls,

I didn't say you weren't fans, so don't try to twist my words. But even a fan can see things from a 'balanced' standpoint. There are guys on here that are incapable of that. Tells me all I need to know about them.

We care more about the teams than the players who play for the team. They look at there $75,000 checks every two weeks and laugh at us. You broke people bring home $800 every 2 weeks and want to drive a Lexus as well as buy season tickets. SMH

DC....

It does NOTHING to Matt Moore's confidence....he is payed well to be a back-up QB...and his job is to be READY to step in and do battle AT ALL TIMES...

He sat behind Chad Henne last year KNOWING he was the better QB...and preformed satisfactorily.....Do you really think that Matt Moore's confidence is damaged because we are trying to aquire future HOF Peyton "FREAKING" Manning....

I should think not....

@Chris in the 623
truth is Chris i saw your earlier post when it was looking like we were going to get manning .. It seemed like you wre hoping we weren't going to get him ..so you could do this COMPLAIN ABOUT US NOT GETTING HIM ..so if you ask me you aren't a FAN only a troll

Do people on here understand we have more needs than a QB? We need OL help and LB help. So why overspend on a QB who best days are behind him? While signing Manning would put more butts in seats, winning also puts butts in seats. If this was 2007, I would be all aboard the Manning to Miami train. However, 5 years later and 3 neck surgeries later, I'm not so sure. Matt Moore played pretty well and is still a great option.

DONT YOU GET IT ! WE AREN'T SOLD ON MANNING !!! man yall are dumb ... you guys think just because they want a manning visit that we are down on one knee begging for him to come here ... NOT TRUE!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

@JeffRow - I disagree with you. I think the Dolphins are "ALL IN" on Manning. If they weren't why the "LOCK DOWN" and why not come out to the press? The Dolphins want Manning in the worst way and he won't even give them a meeting. It is embarrassing!

DC...it looks like many have already saw your post as highly questionable as well....I don't think it passes the eye test....

Why would Henne want to play for the Dolphins after how he's been treated? His career has thus far been held back by a garbage organization. No, like Welker, Ricky Williams, and so many others (that white FB who went to Pats and then rushed for 83 yards against us in his first game, our other RB who Bellicheck used for 4 or 5 good years after we cut him, etc etc etc etc), he will go to a real organization and probably win a playoff game and even the super bowl before we do. Ricky Williams almost got to the super bowl last year. Many many lesser known defensive guys go to other teams and do well.

Chad Henne was mis-used by caveman Sparano and mistreated by our absolutely 100% garbage fanbase (you guys). He's *lucky* to get out of here.

As others have said (the smart ones), there will be a bidding war for Henne's services. He's the top free agent QB on the market now perhaps after Manning and Flynn, and the other teams are laughing at our standard change-for-the-sake-of-change tactices.

Look at what happened? Sparano got fired. Henne never got a chance to play for a good coach. By definition we have failed the scientific method, which can have only one variable to have a valid experiment.

We have a new coach. We don't know if he's good or not, but he might be. 95% of what determines whether a team is good is the coaching staff. For all we know, both Henne and Moore can but up Green Bay numbers in Green Bay's system.

You guys are so stupid the way you treated Henne and now Moore. These guys have not been the problem. The problem was Sparano.

If you know anything about football and paid attention, you know that Henne is a starting caliber QB who has the potential to go to the next level.

No Balls,

It's not 'embarassing'. It might be for you and that's too bad. Ross and Ireland are out there to try and make the team better. Stop caring how the rest of the league perceives us....it means squat at the end of the day. Won/loss record is all that matters and no question it has to be improved. That's what they are TYRING to do. I guess you'd be happier if they didn't try?

If they wanted him in the worst way "NO BALLS" they would come out and say how much they wanted him just like every other team ... and they haven't

Face facts people, zero chance we sign Manning. He hasnt even visited with the Dolphins yet. But has visited with evry other team he says he would consider playing for. There is a reason for this, because he has no interst in playing for this team. And I cannot blame him one bit. Management is killing this team one season at a time. And I am a huge fan, and criticising mangement dosent make me less of one. I am just not blinded by my love of this team to not see the obvious. Another poor wasted draft on the way, and another losung season.

Time to pull the plug on the Manning BS. Mort saying he may not make a decision for a week? Stinks like Fish(er). Free agency opens tomorrow. If they want Flynn, waiting a week kills it. If they are satisfied with Moore (I think he'll do just fine if they give him a good pass catching TE and a fast, experienced WR) and are planning on Tannehill or Weeden, well, they just need to do that. But end the embarrassment. Manning isn't even using them to jack the price. Unless this is all a hush, hush, backroom deal and the media/fans are not privy to it, then just stop now and let Philbin plan this team the way he wants to. It's supposed to be his show.

End the insanity! It's just too painful to watch.

(Should have drafted Mallett instead of trading picks for a back up RB... Doh!)

In other words, some of you -- who are actually on the right track -- say "resign Henne" as if we can even do that? LOLOLOL!!!

He's a hot commodity just like Manning. Who's to say we *can* sign him just because we want to??? He will have many suitors who might outbid us and he probably wants a fresh start with a good organization.

If the organization does not want him, I'm sure the feeling is mutual.

As you fans should have learned by now, unlike us (the fans), the players and coaches don't necessarily see Miami as a good organization to be with.

Henne probably *wants* to go elsewhere and we don't just "sign him" because we want to.

If we were smart, we'd show Moore respect. Moore is 27 and we should develop him and not lose him like the Bucs lost Steve Young in a year or two.

Who cares about the crap Dolphins? What a waste of time and money.

Flynn or Tannehill?

This should be lighting up the blog today, no more Manning as he's yesterday's news.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall listening to Philbin tout Flynn and Sherman touting Tannehill while Ireland keeps wiping the tears away from crying over the Manning loss.

@todd neal
HOW are the killing the franchice by not getting a 36 year old washed up Q/B ? LOL YAll ARE stupid ass hell ... it's a blessing!!!

Manning aint coming to this trainwreck team. He has a brain.

Craig M --- Of course I am happy they are trying. As for "stop caring how the rest of the league perceives us....it means squat at the end of the day." I disagree with you. This teams perception is very important. If matters when trying to land coaches (like Fisher) and free agents (like Manning). If you owner and GM are perceived to be incompetent, it hurts you chances to land key guys.

You don't think Manning has heard rumors that the Dolphins are dysfunctional? You don't think Manning has heard about how Jeff Ireland asked Dez Bryant if his mom was a prostitute?

If we are talking about how the Dolphins keep striking out, the press is talking about how the Dolphins keep striking out, don't think the players don't hear the same thing. And no one wants to go to a perceived loser if they have other or better options.

Craig, you pretty much make some of these guys point about Ross' ineptitude as an owner.

You, Craig the fan, claim to know the Harbaugh to San Fran deal was all but secured, yet Ross and Ireland flew across the country to attempt to sell him on the Miami head coaching job, while the job was still Sparano's.

Seeing the embarrassment this resulted in for the Dolphin organization, doesn't it really say something about the owner and GM when Craig the fan was smart enough to see what the owner and GM did not?

Craig M, the only 1 I feel sorry for is fans like you. When someone looks at something & takes it for what it could be, not what it is.

Unlike you, I'm not afraid to say I know my team sucks. Their record says they do. Nothing you can say, come up with or deny.....changes that.

That doesn't make me a hater. As a fan, I stick with my team thick & thin but, I don't buy the crap they are selling like a gullable fool. Maybe you spend all your time being their spokesman. I don't spend all my time on the Dolphins.

Either you are naive or delusional to think Ireland & Ross are not problems for this team.

No Balls...

You have no idea what "LOCK DOWN" mode even means to the DOlphins Oragnization....and neither does ARmando as evidenzed by the TWO different meaning he threw out there....

LOCK DOWN is Armando's way of attempting to communicate the FINS lack of communication with him...and other members of the press....The FINS most likely view this as something entirely differnt....they jobs are NOT to satisfy the press....it is to make the FINS the best TEAM in football....

So LOCK DOWN..or NO LOCK DOWN...the FINS will still due ALL due dilligence...and wanting an interview with Manning...and signing Manning @ all cost are TWO totally seperat issues....

Anyone else hear that Manning isn't making anymore visits?

don't worry. craig m will tell you all what to think. if you don't agree, the insults will ensue.

Timmy Couch, I agree with your assement on the surface, from my QB rating skills... which I am not in the NFL so that may say how good my skills are.

The only way I believe I was right about Henne is if the dolphins sign him now that Philbin is the head coach. If they sign Henne then Philbin also see's what he can do. If they let him walk, that says a lot.

So really, Henne should not be a topic unless signed back to the team. If he does sign back then there really needs to be a reality check with the fans that hate on him. If he is not signed back, the hate train should go on however long it does.

I would rather have Manning by far though!

I'm sure Steven Ross would love about a million "fans" like you Jeff. Makes his job easy. And saves him a lot of money. I don't speak for anyone other than myself here but one playoff game in ten plus years is not acceptable. Losing players and coaches to the likes of the Rams or Arizona is not acceptable.

And, Jeff, although I post infrequently I've been reading this blog for many years. And if you had been doing the same you would know that when good things have happened with the team and within the organization I have been the first one to heap praise. And will be again for that matter.

Irescum couldnt find an elite QB if one sat in his lap.

Thank god this team is snart by not kissing manning butt and just interveiwing him and telling how much money we will give him just like all the "OTHER SMART TEAMS" LOL.. if you ask me this is the smartest think Ireland and Philbin has DONE! GOOD START SO FAR!

Don't get the philosophy that you're not a fan if you criticize your team. By standing pat and kissing the Dolphin brass's azzes all you are doing is saying "we like what you're doing, keep it up." And I for one deserve better as a fan, and you do too!

Exatly! Apparently a sucker is born every minute. Namely Craig & Jeff Row.

If they wanted him in the worst way "NO BALLS" they would come out and say how much they wanted him just like every other team ... and they haven't

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Well the press has reported that Stephen Ross wants Manning at any cost. The press has been reporting Manning is their #1 option at QB. The press has reported the Dolphins were "hopeful" to get a meeting with Manning after Denver in Arizona. If Miami wasn't interested in Manning, why not come right out and say so?? Why is Miami currently in lock-down mode with the press? You can blame the press and say they don't know what they are talking about. But once again, Miami could EASILY have denied their interest in Manning (like Houston and San Francisco) and they have chosen not to.

I'm flattered to see that PFT has been reading my posts and is now making my point as its top story:

So when will Peyton throw?
"Fewer and fewer people know Latin these days, but “caveat emptor” doesn’t refer to a place where a bear used to live. It means “buyer beware,” and the teams who are chasing Peyton should ask themselves why a guy who has been throwing footballs all his life suddenly isn’t eager to do so"

So without Manning is next season "Suck for Barkley'?

WTF didnt we give up the same draft picks, to the Rams the Redskins gave up, essentially they just lose 2 first rounders, since there selecting RG3 this year. Ireland is a putz with no balls.

Craig, I'm bringing up possible unintended consequences. Same could be said (and has) for Sanchez. Yes, these guys are pro's, but athletics is as much mental as physical. Confidence, being in a "zone", all can help to improve your play.

I'm all for upgrading, but there's possible pitfalls. Like paying too much for 1 player (like a QB). What if they don't work out? It's a risk/reward question.

Sure, the reward was definitely worth what we've done so far in the offseason, but without getting any of those players we pursued, we may encounter the risk.

Just another thing to worry about.

ONE things for sure Getting peyton would have been a bad thing... we dont need a washed up 36 year old q/b that refuses to throw the ball in order to sign a contract when he just had 4 neck surgerys... SMART MOVE IRELAND! YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF IRELAND FOR THAT Chris in the 623 not mad ...boy your dumb!

The Cardinals are PERCIEVED LOSERS....

Friday the PRESS told you that Manning wouldn't sign with an NFC team...because he cares about his brothers feeling to much...and you all bought it....

Today the PRESS tells you that the CARDINALS (NFC TEAM last time I checked)....is the FRONT-RUNNER for Manning....

Why are you guys so gullible....

The press is guessing....and you guys are buying everyting they are selling....NO QUESTIONS ASKED....

When did we as a nation..... stop asking questions....

The FINS want Manning...but they ALSO have a line in the sand....that and if Manning crosses that line...then LIKE FISHER...he will be shown the door...Like any GOOD GM should do...

I hope they miss out on Manning too. Just like they missed out on Luck and Griffin. Because all those misses are emblematic of the front office ineptitude that pervades this franchise. Where are all the "real fans", or the imbeciles as I call them, that knocked the whole 'suck for luck'...how good do those counterproductive 6 wins feel now. I can't blame Manning for refusing an interview with both those clowns (Ireland and Ross). They'll go after Flynn, whose only a marginal improvement over Moore because he knows the system, and he will be average at best just like the rest of the team...and the seeds for the next regime change will be planted....The cycle of failure continues.

Hate to bring up Harbaugh again, but Miami had no shot at him. I don't blame Ross for trying, but he was used and it looking awkward with the whole Sparano thing. Harbaugh had no intention of leaving the West Coast. He just wanted San Fran to up their offer for him and he couldn't do that without Ross throwing his money around.

Kudos to Ross for identifying Harbaugh as a head coaching candidate and trying to hire him.

The only thing Ross did wrong was the way it was handled.

For you guys who still have hope, Omar Kelly said it best on twitter toay about Manning. There's still a pulse but a defibrillator is needed to start the heart.

@ Kris smart post Man ... SEEMS LIKE YOU GET IT!

Our first rounds picks, the last 4 years.

Pouncey
Odrick
Davis
Long.

And some of you duck faces are worried about giving up 2 first round picks for RG3. Even if he turned into a bust it was achance worth taking, but of course Ireland played it safe now where in s*it hole again if Manning goes else where.

Well, it's over. I have been a Peyton manning fan ever since he started, but I really hate him now. After visiting Denver, he fell in love. After visiting Arizona, he fell in love. Now he won't even visit Miami? Really? He lives in Miami!!!
I can't believe that. Unless an explanation is given, he is going to the top of my list as least favorite player.

WE HAVE A BINGO,

Are you just a parrot or are you able to think for yourself. Why do you copy other people's posts and sign in under that name. Pretty sad, pal....

If you want to man up and sign in under your actual name, let's talk....otherwise you're just some moron...

Jeff, can you please refresh my memory about my "earlier" post? I thought so because it didn't happen. I have been on the Manning bandwagon since the chase began. I can respect differing opinions but you have lost all respect by lying.

Im sick of Irealdn and his no guts play it safe acorn way of thinking. This organiztion is stuck in neutral and its been like this for the last decade. 2008 was a fluke.
