Dolphins have not met with Manning ... yet

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin, a celebrity auctioneer during Thursday night's Make-A-Wish foundation charity event at Sun Life Stadium, just told the media the Dolphins have not met with free agent quarterback Peyton Manning.

"We were in the office all day looking at tape," Philbin said of his work on potential draft picks.

General Manager Jeff Ireland also hasn't met with Manning. Ireland was dealing today with a family medical issue. It caused him to leave the University of Miami Pro Day before it concluded and he was unable to attend the Make-a-Wish event at which he was also expected.

Despite the fact the Dolphins haven't formally met with Manning, Ireland has contacted the quarterback's representation team. And while Philbin was vague with details, he suggested something concrete could happen in the next week.

"He's obviously had a phenomenal career up to this point in time," Philbin said of Manning. "From all indications he's been a great leader in that locker room and had a great career with the Colts. And we'll see how things develop in the next week or so."

FIRST!

wooooooh

He will be signed before tuesday.. By whom??

Well by all means Fins. Take your time. It was such a surprise he was let go after all. What the heck???

I'm going to repeat my post until the deal is done.

Peyton manning will be wearing the Miami Dolphins #18 by the end of this weekend and/or as early as next week as they look to get the medical and physical out of the way.

Jeff THE SCOUT will NOT be seriously making a play for RGIII BUT he may put forth an effort. Problem is other teams have way more to offer.

Look for THE SCOUT to draft a solid righty or lefty who can transition to the right side for the O line. The lefty capability can be a security blanket in the event something happens to Long.

They remaining will be used to shore up the D and also stockpile some picks if possible so that they can be used in 2013 draft and go after Matt Barkley.

I'm out people. Enjoy your eve.

John Clayton of ESPN already predicted the Dolphins as the #1 ranked landing spot. Its over.

The best thing about Peyton Manning going to the Dolphins? We are all guaranteed two Brady vs Peyton matchups every year. Thankfully, from everything I’ve read on www.peytonwatch.com it seems the Dolphins are the favorites.

sources tell ESPN that the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and New York Jets have actually been in contact with Manning's representatives.

You know for a fact Ireland et al have been punding away on a deal, and going over medicals. It was a family emergency? Sure was if he does not land Peyton, he wont have a job, now thats an emergency.

If miami does sign manning at.least we will finally get to see marshall playing with his head out of his arse.

Y'all ain't gonna like what I just heard. I heard Manning was trying to call Indy's bluff. I heard the dude ain't really healthy. I heard he wanted to restructure but they knew his neck was jacked up.

I'm a little tired of this looking at TAPE line Miami always throws out there. They always looking at tape!

A few good plays don't make up for all the bad plays they made. I mean really, are they looking at every single piece of tape and plays the player has ever made? Or just the good plays?

JackSparrow is a J-E-T-S fan in disguise!
Ain't gonna work! We will get him!

How many INT's did Manning throw that knocked Indy out of the playoffs?

Miami, Houston and Denver have the best shot. Manning is not going to the NFC.

How many ints has sanchez thrown, if he can throw that far??

As Home said start selling the # 18 jerseys , just have feeling that Mr. Ross is making this call. He is all in. Could be a lot worse.

Anyone else getting the hint that manning is not philbin's first choice????and by the way dirty Sanchez can barely get the ball past the O-line smh he looks like a kid out there!!!

I'm sure Manning will be a first ballot HOF'r. No doubt. But shouldn't he have won at least one more SB? He had coaching stability, great receivers, Marshall Faulk and then Edgerrin James, and a great D. Sheeeesh!

I don't see much happening for him at this stage of his career going to a new team. If he is anything less than 100 percent, I say skip him.

So fins can win the east with Moore?

Pennington???? One and done!!!!

Manning won a SB with no D!

Scotty you are high on cheap glue. Dungy always had great D in Tampa and then in Indy.

Keep the original Plan, go thru the draft and Matt Flynn ....forget P. Manning ....4 neck surgery in 7 months , 36 years old, one year without play, etc, ect.
Someone has to see him throw 2 or 3 days in arrow, ck. reactions, speed, accuracy, etc. remember Culppeper fiasco.
The current Off. Line-right side specially - is not good, the right tackle will be a roockie, the first sack and is done for ever...and start again.

Jets Fans must be shitt-n in their pants at this moment.

have at it boys

I finally figured out the attitude from the Dolphin front office that I do not like. It's arrogance.

Despite the fact the Dolphins haven't formally met with Manning, Ireland has contacted the quarterback's representation team. And while Philbin was vague with details, he suggested something concrete could happen in the next week.

Gee, I wonder how he suggested it?

I mean, I wonder if he actually said something. Maybe hinted at something with words?

Sure would be nice to know. At least we DO know he "suggested" it.

I think I'll Google up some actual sports reporters you know, and see if anyone actually quoted him.

Jesus Crimminy!!!!

Let's assume for a minute the Dolphins do get Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne in free agency...They should really load up on defense with their first 2 picks. If (big if) Maurice Claiborne falls all the way to #8, the Dolphins have to pull the trigger. He's the best CB in this draft, and it is, after all, a pass happy league. The Dolphins also have a guy named Tom Brady in their division. You never have enough good DB's in today's NFL. In round 2, USC's Nick Perry would be HUGE! Him and Wake would really upgrade our pass rush.

Manning won his superbowl with a.defense that finally got.its act together in the playoffs. They couldnt stop the run ALL season. Dungy had good defensive ends and serviceable linebackers that could cover in Indy while in tampa he had a complete defeense.

“I probably need to ask someone what these next few steps are,” said Manning, who has spent his entire 14-year career with the Colts. “I don’t know how this process works. I don’t know if it’s like college recruiting, where you take visits. I mean, this is all so new to me…."

Let's be patient, the poor baby has never been through this before!

Anybody remember that Monday Night game where the Dolphins dominated the time of position on the Colts and we still lost? Manning drove down the field for a TD in less than 6 plays in each of his possessions.

The Colts' win is impressive given how much time Manning spent on the sideline. Miami dominated the time of possession battle, chewing 45:07 off the clock. In fact, the Colts only ran 13 plays in the second half.

And some of you idiots dont want this guy. SMH.

Christ! How bad was Miami's D that year? You guessed it, bad enough to get Pasqualoni fired!

Peyton means money and means we will compete with anyone including Pats and Brady.
Opportunity for Manning to show it against Brady twice a year.
Let it play and draft a 2nd tier QB, Foles, Weedon, Moore, etc.

9 columns in row for a person who supposedly hates the idea of Manning coming here... I think it may be time to apologize and rescind your previous statements against P Manning.

List of really, really dumb bloggers:

Clue
Craig M
Kris
Beerfin

There are some others, but these are really, really dumb. Hopeless

Why is Peyton so hard to comprehend?
Even if the org wants RGIII or Flynn we have to play the game.
If Peyton is the chose, then we will be much better.
Unless, you believe we can be much better with Matt Moore, we have to go.
We have to force the hand of Skins and Browns to get better.
It will play out.

17 percent.

That is how many fin bloggers can write grammatically correct English. Unreal. Scary. Sad.

Ningo,
For the sake of conversation, I am bored with March Madness, what is it about your 4 that makes you feel this way.
Do not always agree with them but accept other opinions and like to hear.

BainDead,
Does this include you in the 17%?

I hope they make him take a few hits from Wake as part of his medical testing. We'll see then.

Medical staffs often make mistakes in assessing a players ability to play and (bad) front offices routinely ignore the "maybes" inherent in the medical reports (well, The Fins' FO has, anyway - see D. Thomas as a recent example). Ross wants this so badly he'll do it blindly.

I'd love a healthy Manning but I'm not buying what the media is selling here. I don't think you build a future on a broken QB, no matter how in love everyone is with what he used to be able to do. CP used to be pretty darned good and lasted one play when he came back. Have any of you yahoos saying this injury can be overlooked ever had a spinal injury? I have and it wasn't as bad as his and the damage was enormous.

IMO having Manning will sell tickets and that is a good thing. More importantly, he will attract big name FAs and that is a great thing. But Matt Moore will be under center most of the year after Manning goes down or never regains form - so don't expect a Manning-lead SuperBowl. That said, Moore will lead the team to more victories because of the additional weapons. So, do we get him? I say yes. Not because he'll ever be the same again, but because of the FA attraction. If Ireland doesn't manage to balls that one up.

The other thing that bothers me is that if the Fins win even a few more games, someone like Matt Barkley will be off the radar because we will pick too low. Just a thought.

No offense meant BrainDead, just sick of the negativity.

This is just gonns put us farther behind as a franchise! What are we gonna get 2 maybe 3 years? Matt Moore is not bad, he throws a nice deep ball and can scramble. Go get him another stud rec. and draft another good lineman to protect him. I like Manning but come on as Dolphin fans aren't you sick of these patch jobs?

This Manning stuff's getting really boring really fast. I mean he's right here in Miami, but everyone including man are "smoke screening" like it means absolutely nothing.

If he just needed somewhere to hang out until he makes his decision. Why not hang out in his hoetown New Orleans or the city he no longer plays for, New Orleans.

The greatest slap in the face Peyton could give to dolfans is to hang out in Miami and then choose to go to another team. If he's not going to choose Miami, he should leave now. It's totally classless and dolfans dont deserve it.

No offense taken, Tampa. It just really depresses me to see how far Society has fallen. So many illiterate people now. We all make typos, I'm not nitpicking here, it's just that so many have such a weak command of their own language that it is seriously detrimental to society on many levels. Yes, even on a football blog. Have you seen how many bloggers can't even spell Peyton's name correctly? I mean, really! How hard is that? It is a testament to how short the attention span is of the younger generation.

If Peyton Manning makes the decision to play for any team other than Miami. He would be very wise to sell his condo.

Im sure there would be irate dolfans whom would be delighted to do a Picasso-less paint job to its structure. If not worse.

YG
You know that we have to play this game.
Not sure who you really want to pick up but we have to play to get better.
Have no dog in the hunt but just want this team to get better.
We have to play. It has been along time since we had this opportunity.
Go with it. Tired of the past.

Braindead,

Are you proposing that to become a fan there should be a requirement of a high school diploma or its equivalency? LOL

wake up fellas, kc has the best shot

Tampafin,

Did you actually just read my post? Please re-read it. I just said it would be a major slap in the face if Peyton choose to go to another team while presently lolly gagging in Miami.

It would be totally classless of him. If Miami wasnt going to be the team he's choosing. He should be hanging out in Indy or New Orleans right now while he makes his deciscion.

High School diplomas mean nothing anymore. Everyone passes.

pretty sure at this point miami isnt his first choice. i still say its between kc and miami though at the end of the day

BrainDead,
A bit of humor, even though I agree, I like the spelling of Peyton as Payton, because that is what he may cost a ton of pay. We all need a little humor.

See what I mean Yesterday G? The majority can't write and can't read.

YG,
Yes, I read.
We must play this silly game, even if classless.
Not sure how it will end, but we must play to get better.
It does not matter how Peyton plays it or any of the other players.
They will have to deal with fin fans after.

I'll be glad when all of this "Manning Watch" stuff is over with!

Then, Mando will have to find something else "negative" to write about. He's been sad ever since Jason Taylor left.

And, I wonder how many of the blog troll/Jets fans will have to eat your words when Miami heads to the play-offs?
GO FINS!!!

Denver really may have the upper hand. Denver or Houston. Elway and Manning are friends. They have a great D. Fox is a great coach with plenty of experience. Miami, let's face it, full of hope but short on talent.

Hey "Miami is brain dead"...so what are your stellar credentials that allows you to know through an online medium that people here are dumb? I've been around here for years..we do have an end of the world nutcase in HOME, but most people here are smart. I'd live to hear it because usually people that say these things you say wind up being the least educated of all. Anyhow, what's you dumb point anyway, this is a football blog, it's like texting, there aren't regular grammar rules in place..are you grading people here or something? If you don't like it..well leave then, we don't need you. I think I hear your mom calling you anyway..go on, run along, it's past your bedtime boy.

i have no problem with manning in a dolphin jersey for a few years,as long as i do not have to watch flynn have a stellar 10-12 year career and it turns into a replay of brees and culpepper. which i could not handle again. it is a strong possibility. we seem to get the bad end of these type of deals so this im not excited about.
