Dolphins make the cut for Peyton Manning

The Miami Dolphins have made the cut for Peyton Manning. He will visit with the Dolphins as one of three or four teams he'll talk to before he decides where he will continue his apparent Hall of Fame career.

It's unclear when specifically Manning will meet with the Dolphins. According to three NFL sources and a report from the Denver Post, Manning will be meeting with the Denver Broncos today or tonight, depending on whom one believes. The Post cited an unnamed source saying Manning would be in Denver this evening.

Within the last hour, I've been told by three people associated with the NFL that Manning could be meeting with the Broncos brass in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Broncos brass is in Stillwater today for the Oklahoma State Pro Day.

The Post said the Arizona Cardinals are also on Manning's list of upcoming visits. I have not confirmed this independently but have been told Manning has "one or two other teams" aside from Denver and Miami that interest him.

Arizona and Kansas City are possibilities as is Seattle. Washington has been eliminated from consideration, one source told me.

Earlier today, ESPN reported the Dolphins' chances of landing Manning had suffered a blow based on the quarterback's apparent distaste for media attention. According to Adam Schefter, Manning didn't like all the attention he received from local media -- including a multiple helicopter chase of his van from the airport to Miami Beach.

I have tons of respect for Schefter. He's the best in the business. But, as ESPN folks would say, c'mon man! Media attention is freaking out Peyton Manning?

The man has played in two Super Bowls. The man has done more commercials than General Motors. The man hosted Saturday Night Live in 2007. The Mannings are not a family of shrinking violets. Brother Eli works in New York, the media capital of the world, and even forged the trade that put him in Gotham.

And Manning is spooked by Miami's local media? Or he's spooked by Miami being a bigger town than Indianapolis? Um, Phoenix and Denver are both bigger than Miami. And, in fact, Indianapolis has a bigger population than the City of Miami.

And, I remind you, Manning lives here.

So he's spooked by cameras but isn't spooked by, you know, important things like Denver's freaky weather and altitude? He's worried about a few TV cameras but will be comfortable with the avalanche of snow that will drop on his passes playing for the Broncos in December?

Stop. Please stop.

Mark @2:18pm,

You might be right. I like adding Tannehill also. But again, I don't see a lot of downside in adding Flynn. I don't think he's going to get anywhere close to what some people are talking about. If Manning goes to Arizona, then Kolb will get chopped and I see nothing wrong with Kolb in this offence. It's a similar type offence to what they ran in Philly and I think Kolb could do well in that. Kolb at the right price wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.

Awesome. Thanks for the updates Mando.

yeh, that getting spooked stuff is absurd. sounds to me from the previos post that he handled that scene like a pro.

F all of putz

Would Manning really want to play for Joe Philbin that has zero head coaching experience?

Pats are getting older and Brady and BB won't be around forever. Not sure the two divisions aren't about the same and who knows in two years.

Posted by: Craig M

Brady and BB are likely to be around AS LONG IF NOT LONGER then Peyton Manning. So this part of your argument is wrong.

That being said, all things equal, Miami is a better destination for Manning then Arizona.

I actually DO see him signing in Miami. We make the most sense of all teams for a variety of reasons- defense, running back,Marsh/Bess,JAKE LONG,he owns a home here so he LIKES Miami, weather and the fact that I'm sure Miami would be Reggie Waynes preference. We're supposed to believe one of the other teams beat us because of a front office exec? Our front office will probably offer him the best contract and then stay the F out of his way. His relationship will be built on the field with our roster and based on our location- 2 things we're simply better at than his alternatives...

It just seems the reporters are a little more respectful and professional in those other cities.

How many times are coaches, gms, vice presidents, players, AND fans going to complain about south Florida's media before they realize there's a problem?

They have turned reporting the news into a free for all tabloid thing. NOT EVEN IN NEW YORK would reporters be following a free agent in a helicopter! I don't care who the person is, it just wouldn't happen. There has never been an instance that a bunch of reporters were chasing a player down in their cars in any other city but Miami. Am I wrong? Anyone have an example that rivals this?

And Armando is trying to skirt the issue by saying the city of Miami isn't as big as Denver etc. Please ,someone tell me how that has anything to do with the reporters part in this? Yeah, Denver is bigger, and yet they don't chase their sports stars down from the air and ground. They have more common sense than that.

It's like you guys are your own country down there! Do you realize other reporters in other cities are not doing this to Manning? He's a nice guy who is very private. So the reporters decide to make a spectacle of his arrival in Miami? Great idea if your Armando and you don't want Peyton on the team but I would guess that most of the people following him are in the other camp.

Way to go guys! We're trying to get a little chipmunk to come over to us, we don't want any BIG, SUDDEN movements that will startle him away and you guys are jumping up and down kicking and screaming like a bunch of morons!

He was FORCED to pull over because he was afraid someone was going to get hurt by you idiots! And Armando is laughing about it as if the notion of Peyton being turned off by this is ridiculous?

Armando you are SO missing the point on this. Your peers are a bunch of know nothing hacks. You were kicked out by Saban, Jimmy Johnson didn't like you guys, Parcells kicked you guys out, a player threatened to hurt one of you and so on. There are so many instances that should wake some of these guys up but naaahhhhhhh, too ignorant for their own good.

No balls,

YOu don't know that. You don't know how long Brady and BB will be around and you don't how long Manning will play. Doesn't sound like a guy that's ready to retire any time soon.

My only point is that the Brady and BB won't be around forever. Who knows how long that will be.

Still people stuck on Flynn just because he was on Philbins previous team. If his buddy Rodgers is saying he can be a top fifteen qb, that is like saying he could be a top twenty five qb LOL.

If anyone thinks Arizona, think Bill Bidwell, one of the very worst owners in the league. If you think the administration is the laughing stock of the league, think again. The poster boy for laughing stock of the NFL might be Bidwell.

Hes visiting Miami last!!! Just a thought

Arizona has been BRUTAL for years. Only thing going for them is good weather, a dome and a Super Bowl appearance a few years ago. But is there ANYBODY that think these guys are one of the upper echelon teams in the NFL? I get that it intrigues Manning but does it really make us nervous that they are the favourites? Not me. So they don't play in a great division. It's been that way for a while. How many years were they making the playoffs during those years? Yeah I knows the argument....how many years were we making the playoffs? I'm just saying, I don't see them as a clear cut better place to play.

i was hoping manning would come to miami but i doubt it ...i mean the dude was here the other day and didnt meet with us now hes in denver and going to arizona then miami at the end...hahaha hes coming to miami at the end becouse he lives here and he just wants to here wat we have to say before he goes home to take a nap

It's quite simple....

Manning would look -undeniably- like crap in a Cardinals uniform.

Dolphins uniform? Much better!

Manning to Denver.
Flynn, having been ignored by Philbin, will tell Philbin to go eff his sad face and sign somewhere else.
RGIII to Washington.
So we're stuck with DoorMatt Moore again.
Fold the franchise.
Bring back the draft.

Craig do you work in a toll booth on a closed road?

I think you're a well spoken smart individual, but for the life of me I can't see why you're advocating both Flynn and Kolb.
We finally have a chance to take a new path, one away from damage control and band-aids, we could finally enter the ranks of the few teams that have a solid plan and foundation for winning, and you wish to give the keys to a 7th round guy (Flynn) who had ONE decent game, or a guy (Kolb) that lost his job once, and is about to again?

No opinion here is wrong, but we can definitely disagree.
I would rather take virtually anyone in the draft, and see what we can build rather than Flynn and Kolb.

But... Flynn is reportedly on our radar.
However, I get the strange feeling he isn't on Philbin's top list, If so, that is the most telling.
That, or Philbin really is excellent at holding his poker cards. -which may be.

You're right. Ugly uniforms and an ugly history....

My guess is Brady & BB will be around LONGER then Manning. Manning is older then Brady and coming off major injury. To state that it would be an advantage for Manning to come to Miami cause Brady & BB could be gone soon is ridiculous. There is just as good of a chance if not better that Manning would retire. Maybe they go around the same time? But it is certainly no given or even likely that Brady & BB will be gone before Manning!

adam shefter is a tool. Its better if manning doesn't see us first. Let him go to denver and all those other places first. Everytime we go first we lose.

Craig M,
We just got to keep thinking positive even if the fan base around us is crying like the sky is falling. The Dolphins have plenty of options. Heck, who to say they don't end up with Manning. John Clayton tweeted the Dolphins are still the favorite to get him. I think he is waying his options so he can drive up his contract offer to the Dolphins.

Brandon ever negotiate anything other than how to put on your depends, the last meeting is the favorite.

Nugent, were u dropped on your head. Miami is a large city, the heat are barely in the spotlight, the marlins useless, Patnthers are the key. You are a moron. troll

I'd rather that he visit us last and make his decision the next day while the amazing pitch (lol) that Ireland and company put on is still fresh in his mind, than visit us first and then visit everyone else.

Last team to meet with him can also easily address any issues which come up from his previous visits and has an inherent advantage. Just like a lawyer working a jury.

Green Bay has developed a model organization thru draft: no free agents. So what if Manning chooses Arizona or Denver ? It is not the end of the world. Get Flynn , have a good draft and we are OK.Playoffs may take more time to get, but onece there it will last longer.

It's funny. He was here, why not meet with Miami first? Hmmm.

Possibly to hash out a few details in private, using the "I'm just sitting at home." excuse, before going ahead and talking to everybody else. He probably wanted to see what was being offered, and how they think they might merge their offensive plans, just to set parameters on all the rest of his discussions with teams.

This is, of course, my optimistic interpretation.

This is all rosses doing. He is like a stalker. He already has two strikes and he is about to take the third strike. That big eared, big nosed circus monkey needs to sell the team and stay in ny where he belongs! Bottom line.

we have a top 15 qb, that wont cost 50 million.

The fact Miami is LAST in this situation is an ADVANTAGE! This is not like a regular free-agent where you make a ridiculous offer and hope to sign the guy before he leaves. Manning is getting his money no matter where he plays. So it is up to Manning to decide WHERE he wants to play. He will visit all 3 teams and then decide. I would certainly rather be last!

flynn is too expensive and not worth 50 million

Manning would still b a band aide to Miami's lack of QB leadership since Marino left.. Need to sell out to get RG3 then fill in the blanks through free agency

If Denver lands Manning lets offer our 1st rd pick for Tebow. He's a proven winner and will fill the stands.

Craig M.:
You are right on the money: that`s the way to aproach this whole issue.

P.S. John Elway is a P.O.S. The way he treats Tebow is ridiculous. If Tebow wasn't such a nice guy, I would demand a trade!

No balls,

Where did I say 'it would be an advantage for Miami because Brady and BB will be gone soon'? Honest to God, I think some of you guys can't read. What I SAID was, the argument is made that Arizona plays in a weaker division. I think that's a weak argument. We don't know what the future holds for the Pats (generally regarded as one of the best teams in football). What we do know is that BB and Brady won't be around forever. If BB decides that he's had enough and needs a break next year, are the Pats still as good? Maybe. Maybe not. I happen to think that the Niners today, are as good as or better than the Pats going forward. I really like their defence, it's young and they have a good young HC. I think an argument could be made that the Niners will be at least as good as the Pats over the next 5 years.

Everyone STFU! Don't ruin it! Peyton, please come to Miami! We need you and would love to have you! -Bryan

tebow could not hold Moore's jock. as a h-back... maybe

I wonder if they chased down Brett Favre when he went to NY? UMMMM NO. How about Monatana in KC,,,,,I mean Joe freakin Monatana,,,ofcourse there were helicopters and cars speeding all around him on the highway right? Nope. On and on and on and on. I have never heard of this.

But surely Armando is right? It has to be ridiculous that a SUPER PRIVATE individual who has tons of class would be turned off by that debacle! I'm sure he rather enjoyed having to pull over in a parking lot on his free time to talk to a bunch of salivating fat a**es in sweaty t-shirts holding moistened microphones. Which classy, private individual wouldn't want to be involved in something like that?

Craig M -- Chances are Brady and BB will be around as long as Manning. Manning is not going to think the AFC East could get easier because Brady and/or BB will retire. That is ridiculous!

Now maybe someone like Matt Flynn may think that or another free agent. Not a 36 year old QB coming off a major injury. Manning will likely have to compete with Brady & BB as long as he is a Miami Dolphin.

JS in LA,

Kolb and Flynn are not my first choices. Manning first, then I'd want RGIII but I believe the price is going to be crazy. This team isn't one player away from winning it all and I get that the QB makes everyone else play better but if you're going to strip 4-5 players from your team, then maybe it's not the best option. That's why I bring up Flynn or Kolb. They battle it out for a couple of years until a guy like Tannehill develops. I'm still onside with draft a young QB and grooming him for down the road.

Rumor is Tim Tebow has offered to pick up Peyton Manning at the airport!!

Peyton will be Tebowing on Elway's Desk.

No balls,

I think you missed my post totally. Doesn't matter....move on.

Calm down !!!! Peyton Manning would be a fool to just walk up to the Dolphins and ask for an application.

The best scenario has presented itself. He is going to Denver first, Arizona second and then coming back home to Miami to visit the Dolphins, contract offers in hand.

The Dolphins have a chance to rebut everything Denver and Arizona offered. He will sign with the Dolphins on Monday before free agency.

It would be nice if it is nice and chilly in Stillwater Oklahoma this weekend. Maybe his neck will bother him in the cold weather. :)

No way that puckered anus face Ross or the drunk GM pull this off. The whole league knows how clueless these two ass clowns are.

Jeff Ireland asked Peyton Manning if he would pee in a cup so they could do a drug test. The Dolphins are a drug-free workplace, and Jeff wanted to make sure he was drug-free before they began negotiations!

It always makes me laugh when I read a poster or reporter state that a player or coach won't go to a certain team because the competition he will have to face will be too tough.

That is a notion only shared by people who have never played an organized sport OR by people who played but didn't compete at a high level, too lazy and didn't put the time in to improve.

No competitive coach or player would ever choose an easier route because he's scared of competition. That is textbook loser mentality and these people aren't built that way. Maybe you are,,,,any person that thinks this way that is,,,but certainly not all pro athletes. Most of them welcome the challenge otherwise they would have chose different careers.

Please stop projecting your wussy, scared of everything, loser mentality on winners. They just don't see the world the same way you do.

This kind of stuff makes me nervous.

I think Manning is going to Denver first because it's the one he probably knows the least about and it may even be the least desirable. I have to think the weather will be a factoring in him not wanting to go there and the fact that Tebowmania will always be there as long as Tebow is. To me very unlikely of the three that he ends up there. His record in cold weather is lousy, and I think that will play a part in his decision.

Jeff Ireland also asked Peyton Manning to sign a 90 day probation period so if the Dolphins for any reason decides to get rid of him within 90 days, Peyton would be unable to file for unemployment compensation!!

You think Peyton was upset about this or the drug test?

Good news is Ireland didn't ask Manning to throw the football. Said he didn't care if he was healthy or not!

Actually Elway will be Tom Bradying when he finds out Peyton won't be going to the Broncos, and he will be stuck 1 more year with Tebow.

Recent stuff-
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on SportsCenter that, in the “estimation of many people around the league,” the Dolphins are losing steam in the sweepstakes for free agent Peyton Manning.

Without providing detail, Schefter cited the same reasons that drove away Jim Harbaugh and Jeff Fisher. “I think there are certain circumstances that prevented certain people from choosing Miami,” Schefter said. “And I think that those factors will come into play with Peyton Manning.” Added Schefter, “I think their chances right now are dwindling some. … Miami doesn’t seem to have an advantage that it did a few days ago, in the estimation of many people around the league.”

Hey Glenn Rice you racist stupid POS please go die now. You are ruining our lives with your hate. I only hope you meet a REAL Irish guy some day and insult him. Have fun pulling your teeth out of your throat.

Craig, it has already been report Manning is going to Denver first because it is the one team he knows the BEST and knows the people running the Broncos (like Elway) the BEST.

Is it just me or does John Elway's head look like a Donkey's Head?!! No wonder he couldn't get a cushiony job like Dan Marino on TV and instead has to work for the Broncos!

So we need to bring up fisher (who i did not want and Harbaugh) because something drove them away. I think if Denver blows him away he signs.

Four words:

Keep more please dont sign flynn ( he may be great someday but 40-50 million?) Get Mario!!

Hey dolphin faithful. How are all 5 of you doing?

Manning may not be spooked by the lousy press in Miami but he will be spooked by Ross and Ireland. Hmmmm lets see here. You've got Pat Bolen and J Elway on one side and Ross / Ireland on another. Geez I wonder who will do a better job. C'mon man!

Back to life. Back to reality. Guys like Manning don't sign with losers like Miami.
