Dolphins make the cut for Peyton Manning

The Miami Dolphins have made the cut for Peyton Manning. He will visit with the Dolphins as one of three or four teams he'll talk to before he decides where he will continue his apparent Hall of Fame career.

It's unclear when specifically Manning will meet with the Dolphins. According to three NFL sources and a report from the Denver Post, Manning will be meeting with the Denver Broncos today or tonight, depending on whom one believes. The Post cited an unnamed source saying Manning would be in Denver this evening.

Within the last hour, I've been told by three people associated with the NFL that Manning could be meeting with the Broncos brass in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Broncos brass is in Stillwater today for the Oklahoma State Pro Day.

The Post said the Arizona Cardinals are also on Manning's list of upcoming visits. I have not confirmed this independently but have been told Manning has "one or two other teams" aside from Denver and Miami that interest him.

Arizona and Kansas City are possibilities as is Seattle. Washington has been eliminated from consideration, one source told me.

Earlier today, ESPN reported the Dolphins' chances of landing Manning had suffered a blow based on the quarterback's apparent distaste for media attention. According to Adam Schefter, Manning didn't like all the attention he received from local media -- including a multiple helicopter chase of his van from the airport to Miami Beach.

I have tons of respect for Schefter. He's the best in the business. But, as ESPN folks would say, c'mon man! Media attention is freaking out Peyton Manning?

The man has played in two Super Bowls. The man has done more commercials than General Motors. The man hosted Saturday Night Live in 2007. The Mannings are not a family of shrinking violets. Brother Eli works in New York, the media capital of the world, and even forged the trade that put him in Gotham.

And Manning is spooked by Miami's local media? Or he's spooked by Miami being a bigger town than Indianapolis? Um, Phoenix and Denver are both bigger than Miami. And, in fact, Indianapolis has a bigger population than the City of Miami.

And, I remind you, Manning lives here.

So he's spooked by cameras but isn't spooked by, you know, important things like Denver's freaky weather and altitude? He's worried about a few TV cameras but will be comfortable with the avalanche of snow that will drop on his passes playing for the Broncos in December?

Stop. Please stop.

Dude seriously? Ross is the one who is making it known we're desperate for a QB? It couldn't be the fact that we only have one on the roster? Or the fact that we've gone through 17 in 13 years that is cluing people in to the fact we are desperate for a QB?

Has Ross even spoke in the past month?

So Pittburgh Jim what don't you understand about Manning wanting to play in a warm weather city. Is Denver a warm weather city. And no hope Ross has only owned the Dolphins since 2010, can't blame him for things before that.

Betty, Philbin/Coker/Cam Cameron are the same person an old white haird turd men who cant control the hip hop plyers of today.

Well I definitely agree with the first part of the post but you kind of trailed off there at the end. People definitely have no attention span these days. And the country continues it's slide into utter stupidity.

Phins78, Keep it short and to the point

** BREAKING NEWS ***
Brandon Jacobs to be released (NYG)
Rex Ryan to release a bowel movement (NYJ)

Does Ross deserve credit for keeping some salary cap space open just in case the Colts didn't feel like giving Manning a $28 million bonus?

Ross wasn't a dope for trying to hire Harbaugh. (Thank God Fisher went elsewhere).

Fans are nervous only b/c, we did get Fisher, Harbaugh, Kyle Orton (thank god), they thought Henne was the next Marino (or better), did not give a fair chance for Moore to compete (who turned out to be more exciting than Henne), signed Colombo and kept him, drafted Pat White, Etc...

What is the big with that?

Every time I see John Elway, I just can't help but think his big Donkey Head is going to explode. I just can't believe how big and ugly his head is!

Is that due to Human Growth Hormones (HGH)?

The funny thing is I ONLY read the larger posts. The shorter posts usually read like a 12 year old's texts to his friends. "this guys is ugly",,,"the Dolphins will never win". Just useless wastes of everyone's time.

The longer posts are usually thought provoking and interesting. To each his own I guess.

After watching the inpromtu interview with Manning in Miami I must say my first impression was that these idiots will scare him off. Chasing him down the freeway. Asking questions like don't you want to be the next Dan Marino? WTF are you kidding me? The Needy girl never gets the guy. It's embarassing. Let's act like we have a clue around here for once.

I agree thank god we didn't get Fisher! I am actually pretty happy so far with Philbin even though we haven't played a down yet. Seems like a classy and smart guy.

The proof of this is abundant especially in this blog.

Denver is pulling the same crap right now with the helicopters following him in Denver...

Holy crap Big Kahuna you're the freakin man! Thank goodness I'm not the only one who gets this point!

Phins78, were you educated by Florida public schools? because its so obvious

Sa fin what are you talking about, each of those circumstance were different some were the FO's fault other were positives for the FO. Like who brought Moore here, who decided not to trade for Orton, or sigh Vince Young.

I just noticed that in both of Shula's super bowls in the 80s, we were held scoreless in the 2nd half after jumping out to a lead in the first quarter. Talk about getting outcoached at half time. Poor Marino.

That was probably Armando, and the Amigo chasing Peyton Manning in the Freeway.

And Armando sounding like a needy little girl, asking Peyton questions.

Phins78,

You are right on with your posts. Keep bringing it, as you consistently do. There are those of us on here that know we're getting a well thought out response from someone who doesn't just spew negativity or the same old crap day after day. Bravo to you....

Manning's career has far surpassed Marino's already. Asking him if he wants to be the next Marino is an insult.

Okay so now the new thing everyone is saying is Arizona is pretty much out of it. They are nowhere near close to being able to afford him without decimating the team. But if they tell Peyton they will get rid of players that actually hurts his chances of winning. Arizona seems to be out, Denver is a dark horse. KC is the team that has the best chance to take him from us.

I don't blame Manning if he doesn't come here.

The media in this Banana Republic, FAKE CITY, is like no other...whiny, snibbling, poor-excuses for fans...the media is like the National Enquirer and would sell their mothers for a story that is juicy...this whole are sucks when it comes to fans, media...you name it, and MIAMI is on every single "BAD CITY LIST" in the USA....oh, wait, how can that be? MIAMI ISN'T A US CITY....ooops!!

GO FINS!!

Marino is one of the greatest ever as is Manning. Only thing Manning has that Marino doesn't is a Super Bowl ring and that isn't all Danny's fault.

Craig can you slob and Phins78 balls anymore?

Adam Schefter(pronounced Shiftier) despises the 72 Dolphins perfect season and does not like the Phins. Thought he was kind of objective like John Clayton(so he acts that way) but turns out he is just another opinionated loser.

i dont want flynn. So stick with Moore.

NY Media. No one likes Miami. Its always been that way.

"All those who wondered why Brian Billick wasn't interviewed by the Dolphins (or anyone else) for the coaching job should have to listen to him on the NFL Network. Over and over, he says Joe Philbin wants Matt Flynn for the lone reason of implementing his own offense and not submitting to Peyton Manning. Hmm. Billick doesn't think this came up in the job interview? That the quarterback issue wasn't discussed completely? And Philbin wasn't on board with going after Manning? What Billick's words really say is he would have a problem with shaping the offense to Manning because, of course, it's always all about Coach Billick."

Staff Writer

Or you could believe some of the posters in here who insisted Billick wasn't interviewed because Ross is an idiot. I mean this stuff can't be made up, too funny what some people write in here.

Phins78,

You really think Arizona is out? How? They have a $7 milion bonus owing to Kolb on the 17th of this month. If they sign Manning for sure they will chop him. I think they franchised Campbell but I think if they got a long term deal done (which is possible) they'd be in better shape. I don't see them as being out at all. I think they'll be in it until the end. JMO....

MIchael, I agree with you... just saying that at one point fans where shouting "we want Orton", remember? Is just distrust in general of the FO. That is what I tried to say. On the other hand, I agree Moore was a good catch, but coaching did not give him a chance to compete for the starter position, that is not the FO, I agree. Regardless, is an all around distrust by the fans, I do not see it that way, I see good things as you well mention.

Thanks for the feedback.

Wow uMilke. In a sea of idiots, u hold the trident.

You got it Craig, I could never shorten my posts anyway, I'm an insufferable blabber mouth! This blog is so split it cracks me up. There are some really great posters in here right? But then the drop off is tremendous.

Craig, the Sentinel just reported that Arizona is having trouble finding space under the cap. They said they COULD make it work but it would likely mean cutting some quality players who are young and on their upside. I was really just repeating what I read. Of course anything can happen and they're not totally out of it. But it's going to be harder for them to make a good offer. And KC has twice as much as we do to spend. They could make him a huge offer. I hope it's not about money with Peyton.

Phins78,

I doubt it's about the money with Peyton. If it is I think we can make it work. KC may have cap space but Ross can find a way around that. KC is an option, but there are still games that will have to played there that will be much colder than anything they'll play in Miami. That part is unmistakable.

You make good points Craig. It just seems they have too many hurdles to jump and I don't know if they have the time. I seriously don't see this stretching out beyond Monday. Teams can't be waiting on Manning when free agency opens and he knows that. This deal is probably going to be done quick.

But if it isn't teams like ARIZONA will have a better shot so I agree if that happens. It wouldn't be wise for Miami to sit and wait for a Manning decision while everyone else grabs the free agents and makes trade offers for the 2nd pick. We have to know what Manning is doing by Tue at 4pm because if I were Ireland and didn't have an answer by that time I would tell him good luck and go all in for RG3 or Flynn.

Ross just can't afford to lose out on the QB chase. He HAS to sign one of these guys or his ticket sales are going to suffer tremendously. I don't see the Dolphins waiting beyond Tue so maybe you're right. Whomever holds out longest may be the winner.

Craig And Phins are you guys gay lovers?

Yep, and I'm hoping the reports are true about Manning not wanting to play in cold weather. But then again they are "reports" made by the same reporters who insisted Carl Petersen was on the plane with Ross and then spent the next 6 hours ripping Ross apart for undermining Ireland only to find out Petersen was in a different state. The best part was when Omar Kelly was the only reporter in south Florida to admit they had made a mistake and apologize. Say what you want about O but the man has integrity.

Phins78,

You may be right in your thoughts. I also think it's in Manning's best interests to get something done sooner, rather than later. He's the only guy out there right now, so he can use that to his advantage. The Cardinals have to do something with Kolb by the 17th, which is next Saturday. They will want this resolved by then too.

I see our main competition for Kolb, if it comes to that, as being Seattle. They're window opens Tuesday on him and I agree, Miami needs to figure out what they are doing with Manning and soon.

Yes,,,,we are. We sit in different rooms talking to each other on the Herald blog as a way to spice up our love life. It's great foreplay. I hope this was a help to you.

But don't be jealous Random. I'm a lot of man and we have an open relationship so if you're interested just leave me your number sexy. ;)

Manning will sign with a team right before FA starts. How enticing would it be if a team offers and bring a tool or two that Manning is familiar with? Can only be done at the very start of FA... IMHO.

Phins78 and Craig M sitting in a tree...
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
(Lol)

Seriously, can we get back to football talk?!

IT IS IRONIC THAT NO ONE GAVE A HOOT ABOUT MANNING FOUR MONTH AGO, EXCEPT ROSS,NOW EVERY NFL TEAM WANT TO KISS THIS GUY REAR END.............

You're right and that's why we might see something happen by Tue. He wants to keep that status of being the lone QB chased right now,,at least his agent does if he's smart!

LOL, Phins78 I have to admit that was pretty funny.

I thought we were talking football.

Dear Dolphin Fans,

If we are unable to resign future Hall of Famer Chad Henne, we are going to make a run at future Hall of Famer Payton Manning. The problem is, we don't know how to reach him. We heard he has a place somewhere on South Beach, but he isn't listed in the phone book. Seems his agent says he is out of town. Do any of you know how to reach him? We want to show him what a great organization your Miami Dolphins are, starting of course with me.

Love,

Jeff

P.S. I hope everyone loves the "Manning to Miami" billboard. Even though Mr. Ross paid for it, he loves it. That will be our little secret though, okay? Go Fins!

That's right it was funny, I'm a FUNNY guy!!! I have a website,,,,www.phins78ishilarious.com,,,,

The media asking manning those questions were embarrassing for sure, but I'm sure Peyton has been through it all.
I fully believe, as does everyone else, that this is Ross and Ireland's to screw up. Not make, because we are favorite, but to screw up, by Ross being a rich jerk or Ireland saying he won't sign Reggie Wayne or Jeff Saturday (which would both make our team that much better by the way, superbowl teams need canes on them), however I will give them credit if they sign, especially manning.

later guys

Craig,
We're not so far apart as I thought. But I still fail to see why Flynn or especially Kolb is much of an upgrade over Moore.
Moore is battle tested, and knows the personnel.
Flynn knows Philbin's system but has virtually no game experience.
And Kolb doesn't know Philbin's system, or the personnel. And came close to losing his job BEFORE the offseason.
Skip spending money on any of those, keep Moore as your insurance, and go get a young QB - period.
If Manning comes, still get your young QB. Shop Moore if you like. I'd wager he'd find more suitors than Kolb if circumstances were equal.

Earlier today, ESPN reported the Dolphins' chances of landing Manning had suffered a blow based on the quarterback's apparent distaste for media attention. According to Adam Schefter, Manning didn't like all the attention he received from local media -- including a multiple helicopter chase of his van from the airport to Miami Beach.

well what do you expect this is a hot news story DUH!!! things will quiet down once he signs with Miami......

IT IS IRONIC THA NO ONE GAVE A HOOT ABOUT MANNING FOUR MONTH AGO, EXCEPT ROSS, NOW EVERY NFL TEAM WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THOSE ELITE QB TEAM, WANT TO KISS THIS GUY REAR END

In my opinion, it's a good thing that Miami is last on Manning's list of places to visit. Then, he can tell Ross exactly what the other teams have offered and what he thinks and give Ross the chance to better their best offer! It's a Win-Win for Peyton! He gets to go where he wants to go AND that also happens to be the place with the best offer on the table!

Adam Schefter is an idiot! He doesn't want Manning to go to Miami. He says that the problems are too much media attention and the same factors in the front office that turned off Harbaugh and Fischer! And, of course, he won't reveal what those factors are! That's just a cheap shot at the Dolphin organization in my opinion. He isn't the only sports writer who hates the Dolphins and he definitely won't be the last. Especially, if Manning DOES sign with Miami.

M2M! Go Fins!

I will venture out to say Monday there will be an announcement on Manning. The guy is no slouch, we know that, and he is set in the way he wants to do things, this is not a situation where a QB goes in to learn and adapt to a new system, the system will adapt to Manning.

Monday sometime is the day. Tuesday, press introduction holding #18 in some color combination...to lure other FA players. If you don't think Manning's presence in a team can influence others, think again. IMHO.

I like shorter posts.

Flynn = Kolb

I like smelly clams

Tracy474,

Shafter not a high I.Q. super-educated genius-type.

He might be right about Fisher going to St. Louis to evade media scrutiny.
